Cross sections for elastic Compton scattering from the deuteron were measured over the laboratory angles straight theta(gamma) = 35 degrees -150 degrees. Tagged photons in the laboratory energy range E(gamma) = 84-105 MeV were scattered from liquid deuterium and detected in the large-volume Boston University NaI spectrometer. Using the calculations of Levchuk and L'vov, along with the measured differential cross sections, the isospin-averaged nucleon polarizabilities in the deuteron were estimated. A best-fit value of (alpha;-beta;) = 2.6+/-1.8 was determined, constrained by dispersion sum rules. This is markedly different from the accepted value for the proton of (alpha;-beta;)(p) = 10.0+/-1.5+/-0.9.  相似文献

We present measurements of the recoil proton polarization for the d(gamma-->,p-->)n reaction at straight theta(c.m.) = 90 degrees for photon energies up to 2.4 GeV. These are the first data in this reaction for polarization transfer with circularly polarized photons. The induced polarization p(y) vanishes above 1 GeV, contrary to meson-baryon model expectations, in which resonances lead to large polarizations. However, the polarization transfer Cx does not vanish above 1 GeV, inconsistent with hadron helicity conservation. Thus, we show that the scaling behavior observed in the d(gamma,p)n cross sections is not a result of perturbative QCD. These data should provide important tests of new nonperturbative calculations in the intermediate energy regime.  相似文献

Quasifree photoproduction of eta mesons off nucleons bound in the deuteron has been measured with the CBELSA/TAPS detector for incident photon energies up to 2.5 GeV at the Bonn ELSA accelerator. The eta mesons have been detected in coincidence with recoil protons and recoil neutrons, which allows a detailed comparison of the quasifree n(gamma,eta)n and p(gamma,eta)p reactions. The excitation function for eta production off the neutron shows a pronounced bumplike structure at W=1.68 GeV (E{gamma} approximately 1 GeV), which is absent for the proton.  相似文献

The first measurements of the d(gamma,p)n differential cross section at forward angles and photon energies above 4 GeV were performed at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab). The results indicate evidence of an angular dependent scaling threshold. Results at straight theta(cm) = 37 degrees are consistent with the constituent counting rules for E(gamma) greater, similar 4 GeV, while those at 70 degrees are consistent with the constituent counting rules for E(gamma) greater, similar 1.5 GeV.  相似文献

We performed a coincidence measurement of two nucleons emitted from the nonmesonic weak decay of lambda(5)He formed via the 6Li(pi+, K+) reaction. The energies of the two nucleons and the pair number distributions in the opening angle between them were measured. In both np and nn pairs, we observed a clean back-to-back correlation coming from the two-body weak reactions of lambda p --> np and lambda n --> nn, respectively. The ratio of the nucleon pair numbers was N(nn)/N(np) = 0.45 +/- 0.11(stat) +/- 0.03(syst) in the kinematic region of cos theta(NN) < -0.8. Since each decay mode was exclusively detected, the measured ratio should be close to the ratio of gamma(lambda p --> np)/gamma(lambda n --> nn). The ratio is consistent with recent theoretical calculations based on the heavy meson and/or direct-quark exchange picture.  相似文献

The fundamental reaction pp-->{pp}_{s}gamma, where {pp}_{s} is a proton pair with low excitation energy, has been observed with the ANKE spectrometer at COSY-Jülich for proton beam energies of T_{p}=0.353, 0.500, and 0.550 GeV. This is equivalent to photodisintegration of a free 1S0 diproton for photon energies E_{gamma} approximately T_{p}/2. The differential cross sections measured for c.m. angles 0 degrees gammad is on the 10;{-3}-10;{-2} level. The increase of the pp-->{pp}_{s}gamma cross section with T_{p} might reflect the influence of the Delta(1232) excitation.  相似文献

Measuring Compton scattered photons and recoil neutrons in coincidence, quasifree Compton scattering by the neutron has been investigated at MAMI (Mainz) at theta(lab)(gamma) = 136 degrees in an energy range from 200 to 400 MeV. From the data a polarizability difference of alpha(n)-beta(n) = 9.8+/-3.6(stat)+2.1-1.1(syst)+/-2.2(model) in units of 10(-4) fm(3) has been determined. In combination with the polarizability sum alpha(n)+beta(n) = 15.2+/-0.5 deduced from photoabsorption data, the first precise results for the neutron electric and magnetic polarizabilities, alpha(n) = 12.5+/-1.8(stat)+1.1-0.6(syst)+/-1.1(model) and beta(n) = 2.7-/+1.8(stat)+0.6-1.1(syst)-/+1.1(model), are obtained.  相似文献

We investigated confinement effects on the resistive anisotropy of a superconducting niobium strip with a rectangular cross section. When its transverse dimensions are comparable to the superconducting coherence length, the angle dependent magnetoresistances at a fixed temperature can be scaled as R(theta,H) = R(H/Hctheta) where Hctheta =Hc0(cos2theta + gamma(-2)sin2theta)(-1/2) is the angular dependent critical field, gamma is the width to thickness ratio, and Hc0 is the critical field in the thickness direction at theta=0 degrees . The results can be understood in terms of the anisotropic diamagnetic energy for a given field in a one-dimensional superconductor.  相似文献

In the experiments of the PS209 collaboration at the Low Energy Antiproton Ring LEAR at CERN two methods were applied to study the nuclear periphery: first the yields of residual nuclei with mass number A — 1 were determined with radiochemical methods, and secondly the widths and shifts of the last observable transitions in antiprotonic atoms were measured with Ge detectors. The ratio of yields after annihilation for nuclei with one neutron missing to those with one proton missing from the target nucleus was found to depend strongly on the binding energy of the most loosely bound neutron of the target nucleus. The values were in astonishingly good agreement with a rather simple model for the proton and neutron density distribution devised by Gambhir et al. Furthermore the normalized yield ratio stays constant up to a relative neutron excess of about 0.15 and afterwards rises steeply. Widths for in total 62 x-ray Unes from antiprotonic atoms were compared with the results of calculations of Batty et al. The agreement is reasonable on a semiquantitative basis, but improvements are desirable. For a number of nuclei the differences between the diffuseness values for the proton and neutron distributions were determined directly from the x-ray-line intensity and width data. The root-mean-square radii for the neutron and proton distributions may be derived from these results. The experimental data for four tin isotopes are in reasonable agreement with the experiments of Krasznahorkay et al., but lower than theory predicts.  相似文献

We determined accurate He-broadening parameters and collisional cross sections for the P(2) line in the fundamental band of CO at room temperature and at intermediate temperatures down to 11.5 K. We also determined a precise value for the temperature dependence of the line-broadening parameter on (T)(-n) with n equal to 0.548+/-0.010. Our results validate the microwave results for the J=1 to J=2 rotational transitions measured over the same range of temperatures which were reported previously by Beaky et al. (1996, J. Chem. Polarized Raman spectra of high purity aligned arrays of multiwalled carbon nanotubes, prepared on silica substrates from the thermal decomposition of a ferrocene-xylene mixture, show a strong dependence of the graphitelike G band and the disorder-induced D band on the polarization geometry employed in the experiments. The experimental G-band intensity exhibits a minimum at straight theta(m) = 55 degrees in the VV configuration, in good agreement with theoretical predictions of a characteristic minimum at 54.7 degrees for A(1g) modes in single wall nanotubes, where straight theta(m) denotes the angle between the polarization direction and the nanotube axis.  相似文献

Over two decades ago it was predicted that nonlinear interactions between thermally driven fluctuations in dissipative nonlinear nonequilibrium systems lead to deviations from mean-field theory. Here we report experimental observations of such deviations as a supercritical primary bifurcation is approached. We measured the mean-square director-angle fluctuations below the bifurcation to electroconvection of two different nematic liquid crystals. For epsilon(mf) identical withV2/V(2)(c,mf)-1 less, similar-0.1 ( V is the applied voltage) we find approximately |epsilon(mf)|(-gamma) with gamma given by linear theory (LT). Closer to the bifurcation there are deviations from LT with a smaller gamma and with V(2)(c)>V(2)(c,mf).  相似文献

The multifractal (MF) distribution of the electrostatic potential near any conformally invariant fractal boundary, like a critical O(N) loop or a Q-state Potts cluster, is solved in two dimensions. The dimension &fcirc;(straight theta) of the boundary set with local wedge angle straight theta is &fcirc;(straight theta) = pi / straight theta-25-c / 12 (pi-straight theta)(2) / straight theta(2pi-straight theta), with c the central charge of the model. As a corollary, the dimensions D(EP) of the external perimeter and D(H) of the hull of a Potts cluster obey the duality equation (D(EP)-1) (D(H)-1) = 1 / 4. A related covariant MF spectrum is obtained for self-avoiding walks anchored at cluster boundaries.  相似文献

We have measured the double differential cross section for bremsstrahlung production in neutron-proton collisions near 130 MeV. Outgoing nucleons were detected at eight pairs of angles simultaneously. The cross sections agree with several theoretical predictions for those four angle pairs in which the proton emerged at 20° (θ = 20°), but are larger than expected in the four cases that θp = 32°. The method of data reduction, and the sources of uncertainty, are discussed in detail.  相似文献

Photoproduction of mesons off the deuteron has been investigated at a tagged photon beam of the Bonn ELSA accelerator with the combined Crystal Barrel - TAPS electromagnetic calorimeter for incident photon energies up to 2.5 GeV. The mesons have been detected in coincidence with recoil protons, neutrons and deuterons. This allow the measurement of meson production reactions off the quasifree nucleons bound in the deutron, as well as the coherent production off the deuteron. The comparison of quasifree proton reactions to free proton reactions can confirm or invalidate possible nuclear effects on the extracted cross section reactions. Furthermore the isospin composition of a resonance can be estimated from the comparison of quasifree proton and neutron reactions. The quasifree photoproduction of the η' and π~°η mesons off nucleons and the coherent photoproduction of π~°η-pairs off the deuteron are discussed.  相似文献

We have measured the differential cross section for the gamman-->pi(-)p and gammap-->pi(+)n reactions at theta(c.m.)=90 degrees in the photon energy range from 1.1 to 5.5 GeV at Jefferson Lab (JLab). The data at E(gamma) greater, similar 3.3 GeV exhibit a global scaling behavior for both pi(-) and pi(+) photoproduction, consistent with the constituent counting rule and the existing pi(+) photoproduction data. Possible oscillations around the scaling value are suggested by these new data. The data show enhancement in the scaled cross section at a center-of-mass energy near 2.2 GeV. The cross section ratio of exclusive pi(-) to pi(+) photoproduction at high energy is consistent with the prediction based on one-hard-gluon-exchange diagrams.  相似文献

An alpha-decay branch of (1.4+/-0.4) x 10(-4) has been discovered in the decay of 109I, which predominantly decays via proton emission. The measured Q(alpha) value of 3918+/-21 keV allows the indirect determination of the Q value for proton emission from 105Sb of 356+/-22 keV, which is approximately of 130 keV more bound than previously reported. This result is relevant for the astrophysical rapid proton-capture process, which would terminate in the 105Sn(p,gamma)106Sb(p,gamma)107Te(alpha decay)103Sn cycle at the densities expected in explosive hydrogen burning scenarios, unless unusually strong pairing effects result in a 103Sn(p,gamma)104Sb(p,gamma)105Te(alpha decay)101Sn) cycle.  相似文献

A measurement of the analyzing power A(y) of the p-->d--> (p p) + n reaction was carried out at the ANKE spectrometer at COSY at beam energies of 0.5 and 0.8 GeV by detection of a fast forward proton pair of small excitation energy E(pp) < 3 MeV. The S-wave dominance in the fast diproton is experimentally demonstrated in this reaction. While at T(p) = 0.8 GeV the measured analyzing power almost vanishes, it rises to nearly unity at T(p) = 0.5 GeV for neutrons emitted at theta(c.m.)(n) = 167 degrees. The results are compared with a model taking into account one-nucleon exchange, single scattering, and Delta(1232) excitation in the intermediate state. The model describes fairly well the unpolarized cross section obtained earlier and the analyzing power at 0.8 GeV; it fails to reproduce A(y) at 0.5 GeV.  相似文献

This Letter shows quantitatively that the magnitude of the EMC effect measured in electron deep inelastic scattering at intermediate x(B), 0.35≤x(B)≤0.7, is linearly related to the short range correlation (SRC) scale factor obtained from electron inclusive scattering at x(B)≥1. The observed phenomenological relationship is used to extract the ratio of the deuteron to the free pn pair cross sections and F(2)(n)/F(2)(p), the ratio of the free neutron to free proton structure functions. We speculate that the observed correlation is because both the EMC effect and SRC are dominated by the high virtuality (high momentum) nucleons in the nucleus.  相似文献

To examine whether auditory streaming contributes to unmasking, intelligibility of target sentences against two competing talkers was measured using the coordinate response measure (CRM) [Bolia et al., J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 107, 1065-1066 (2007)] corpus. In the control condition, the speech reception threshold (50% correct) was measured when the target and two maskers were collocated straight ahead. Separating maskers from the target by +/-30 degrees resulted in spatial release from masking of 12 dB. CRM sentences involve an identifier in the first part and two target words in the second part. In experimental conditions, masking talkers started spatially separated at +/-30 degrees but became collocated with the target before the scoring words. In one experiment, one target and two different maskers were randomly selected from a mixed-sex corpus. Significant unmasking of 4 dB remained despite the absence of persistent location cues. When same-sex talkers were used as maskers and target, unmasking was reduced. These data suggest that initial separation may permit confident identification and streaming of the target and masker speech where significant differences between target and masker voice characteristics exist, but where target and masker characteristics are similar, listeners must rely more heavily on continuing spatial cues.  相似文献
