The bond length alternation (BLA), the highest-occupied-lowest-unoccupied (HO-LU) orbital energy gap, and the corresponding excitation energy are determined for trans-polyacetylene (PA) and polyyne (PY) using density functional theory. Results from the Coulomb-attenuated CAM-B3LYP functional are compared with those from the conventional BHHLYP and B3LYP hybrid functionals. BLA values and HO-LU gaps are determined using both finite oligomer and infinite chain calculations, subject to periodic boundary conditions. TDDFT excitation energies are determined for the oligomers. The oligomer excitation energies and HO-LU gaps are then used, in conjunction with the infinite chain HO-LU gap, to estimate the infinite chain excitation energy. Overall, BHHLYP and CAM-B3LYP give BLA values and excitation energies that are larger and more accurate than those obtained using B3LYP. The results highlight the degree to which excitation energies can be approximated using the HO-LU gaps-at the infinite limit, this approximation works well for B3LYP, but not for the other functionals, where the HO-LU gap is significantly larger. The study provides further evidence for the high-quality theoretical predictions that can be obtained from the CAM-B3LYP functional.  相似文献

Time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) computations are performed for 42 organic molecules and three transition metal complexes, with experimental molar optical rotations ranging from 2 to 2 × 10(4) deg cm(2) dmol(-1). The performances of the global hybrid functionals B3LYP, PBE0, and BHLYP, and of the range-separated functionals CAM-B3LYP and LC-PBE0 (the latter being fully long-range corrected), are investigated. The performance of different basis sets is studied. When compared to liquid-phase experimental data, the range-separated functionals do, on average, not perform better than B3LYP and PBE0. Median relative deviations between calculations and experiment range from 25 to 29%. A basis set recently proposed for optical rotation calculations (LPol-ds) on average does not give improved results compared to aug-cc-pVDZ in TDDFT calculations with B3LYP. Individual cases are discussed in some detail, among them norbornenone for which the LC-PBE0 functional produced an optical rotation that is close to available data from coupled-cluster calculations, but significantly smaller in magnitude than the liquid-phase experimental value. Range-separated functionals and BHLYP perform well for helicenes and helicene derivatives. Metal complexes pose a challenge to first-principles calculations of optical rotation.  相似文献

Time-dependent density-functional theory (TDDFT) is used to study the excitation energies of the global minima of small Zn(i)O(i) clusters, i = 1-15. The relativistic compact effective core potentials and shared-exponent basis set of Stevens, Krauss, Basch, and Jasien (SKBJ), systematically enlarged with extra functions, were used throughout this work. In general, the calculated excitations occur from the nonbonding p orbitals of oxygen. These orbitals are perpendicular to the molecular plane in the case of the rings and normal to the spheroid surface for 3D clusters. The calculated excitation energies are larger for ringlike clusters as compared to 3D clusters, with the excitation energies of the latter structures lying close to the visible spectrum. The difference between Kohn-Sham eigenvalues of the orbitals involved in the electronic excitations studied have also been compared to the TDDFT results of the corresponding excitations for two approximate density functionals, that is, MPW1PW91 and B3LYP, the latter being more accurate. Moreover, they approach the TDDFT value as the cluster size increases. Therefore, this might be a practical method for estimating excitation energies of large Zn(i)O(i) clusters.  相似文献

Reaction mechanisms for the formation of the keto-form of oxyluciferin (OxyLH(2)) from the luciferin of fireflies via a dioxetanone intermediate are predicted using the B3LYP/6-31G theoretical method. The ring opening of a model dioxetanone and the decarboxylation proceed in one step via a singlet diradical transition structure with an activation barrier of 18.1 and an exothermicity of 90.8 kcal/mol. The S(0) --> S(1) vertical excitation energies predicted with time dependent density functional theory, TDDFT B3LYP/6-31+G, for the anionic and neutral forms of OxyLH(2) are in the range of 60 to 80 kcal/mol. These energetic results support the generally accepted theory of chemically initiated electron exchange luminescence (CIEEL). The chemical origin of the multicolor bioluminescence from OxyLH(2) is examined theoretically using the TDDFT B3LYP/6-31+G, ZINDO//B3LYP/6-31+G, and CIS/6-31G methods. A change in color of the light emission upon rotation of the two rings in the S(1) excited state of OxyLH(2) is unlikely because both possible emitters, the planar keto- and enol-forms, are minima on the S(1) potential energy surface. The participation of the enol-forms of OxyLH(2) in bioluminescence is plausible but not required to explain the multicolor emission. According to predictions at the TDDFT B3LYP level, the color of the bioluminescence depends on the polarization of the OxyLH(2) in the microenvironment of the enzyme-OxyLH(2) complex.  相似文献

Spectroscopic properties of a ground state nonbonded porphine-buckminsterfullerene (H2P...C60) complex are studied in several different relative orientations of C60 with respect to the porphine plane by using the density functional (DFT) and time-dependent density functional (TDDFT) theories. The geometries and electronic structures of the ground states are optimized with the B3LYP and PBE functionals and a SVP basis set. Excitation energies and oscillator strengths are obtained from the TDDFT calculations. The relative orientation of C60 is found to affect the equilibrium distance between H2P and C60 especially in the case of the PBE functional. The excitation energies of different H2P...C60 complexes are found to be practically the same for the same excitations when the B3LYP functional is used but to differ notably when PBE is used in calculations. Existence of the states related to a photoinduced electron transfer within a porphyrin-fullerene dyad is also studied. All calculations predict a formation of an excited charge-transfer complex state, a locally excited donor (porphine) state, as well as a locally excited acceptor (fullerene) state in the investigated H2P...C60 complexes.

The absorption spectra for dimers of Ag(4)(+2) and Ag(8) clusters at various interparticle distances are examined using time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) and configuration interaction singles (CIS) calculations. With TDDFT calculations employing the SAOP functional, minor peaks for Ag(4)(+2) and Ag(8) dimers appear as the interparticle distance decreases; these peaks are suggested to be charge transfer artifacts on the basis of CIS and TDDFT (CAM-B3LYP) calculations. The relationship of the absorption peak locations to the distance and orientation between T(d) Ag(20) dimers is also investigated. TDDFT calculations using the SAOP functional are used to determine excitation absorption spectra for eight different orientations of Ag(20) dimers. Although the Ag(20)T(d) monomer has a sharp peak, each dimer absorption spectrum is split due to lower symmetry. This splitting increases as the center of mass distance decreases. As the interparticle distance between the monomers decreases, the initially strong peaks decrease in intensity and red or blue shift depending on symmetry, while the minor peaks increase in intensity and red shift.  相似文献

We present time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) calculations of the electronic optical rotation (ORP) for seven oxirane and two aziridine derivatives in the gas phase and in solution and compare the results with the available experimental values. For seven of the studied molecules it is the first time that their optical rotation was studied theoretically and we have therefore investigated the influence of several settings in the TDDFT calculations on the results. This includes the choice of the one-electron basis set, the exchange-correlation functional or the particular polarizable continuum model (PCM). We can confirm that polarized quadruple zeta basis sets augmented with diffuse functions are necessary for converged results and find that the aug-pc-3 basis set is a viable alternative to the frequently employed aug-cc-pVQZ basis set. Based on our study, we cannot recommend the generalized gradient functional KT3 for calculations of the ORP in these compounds, whereas the hybrid functional PBE0 gives results quite similar to the long-range correct CAM−B3LYP functional. Finally, we observe large differences in the solvent effects predicted by the integral equation formalism of PCM and the SMD variant of PCM. For the majority of solute/solvent combinations in this study, we find that the SMD model in combination with the PBE0 functional and the aug-pc-3 basis set gives the best agreement with the experimental values.  相似文献

A scheme of time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) combined with single-excitation configuration interaction (CIS) approach was employed to make a detailed investigation of the emitting energy for fifteen well-known coumarin derivatives. The results showed that the predicted emitting energies as well as the absorption ones were dominated mainly by the exchange-correlation (XC) functional to be used. So long as a functional is properly chosen, the experimental emitting energy of most derivatives can be accurately reproduced within 0.16 eV by a calculation at the TDDFT/6-31G(d)//CIS/3-21G(d) theoretical level. It was found that, nevertheless, the hybrid functional, B3LYP, well predicted the absorption energies for all the fifteen coumarin derivatives but none of the functionals could work equally well for the emitting energy calculations. Two pure functionals, OLYP and BLYP, yield good emitting energies for the 7-aminocoumarins or derivatives with a N atom connected to 7-position, which exhibit inconspicuous charge transfer (CT) in their excited states, whereas the B3LYP hybrid functional, with 20% Hartree-Fock (HF) exchange energy, performs significantly better than OLYP and BLYP for those 3-substituted coumarins with larger CT in excited states. Thus, in comparison with the absorption energies, the selection of proper functionals for the emitting energy calculations becomes more complex. In all probability, it is effective and doable to choose an XC-functional with alterable fraction of HF exchange energy according to the composition and structure characteristics of molecule.  相似文献

We present a new density functional called M06-HF. The new functional has full Hartree-Fock exchange, and therefore it eliminates self-exchange interactions at long range. This leads to good performance in TDDFT calculations of both Rydberg and charge-transfer states. In addition, the functional satisfies the uniform electron gas limit, and it is better than the popular B3LYP functional, on average, for ground-electronic-state energetics.  相似文献

Within three functionals (TD-B3LYP, TD-BHandHLYP, and TD-CAM-B3LYP) in combination with four basis sets (3-21g, 6-31g, 6-31g(d), and cc-pvdz), global switching (GS) trajectory surface hopping molecular dynamics has been performed for cis-to-trans azobenzene photoisomerization up to the S1(nπ*) excitation. Although all the combinations show artificial double-cone structure of conical intersection between ground and first excited states, simulated quantum yields and lifetimes are in good agreement with one another; 0.6 (±5%) and 40.5 fs (±10%) by TD-B3LYP, 0.5 (±10%) and 35.5 fs (±4%) by TD-BHandHLYP, and 0.44 (±9%) and 35.2 fs (±10%) by TD-CAM-B3LYP. By analyzing distributions of excited-state population decays, hopping spots, and typical trajectories with performance of 12 functional/basis set combinations, it has been concluded that functional dependence for given basis set is slightly more sensitive than basis set dependence for given functional. The present GS on-the-fly time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) trajectory surface hopping simulation can provide practical benchmark guidelines for conical intersection driven excited-state molecular dynamics simulation involving in large complex system within ordinary TDDFT framework. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

It is well-known that time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) yields substantial errors for the excitation energies of charge-transfer (CT) excited states, when approximate standard exchange-correlation (xc) functionals are used, for example, SVWN, BLYP, or B3LYP. Also, the correct 1/R asymptotic behavior of CT states with respect to a distance coordinate R between the separated charges of the CT state is not reproduced by TDDFT employing these xc-functionals. Here, we demonstrate by analysis of the TDDFT equations that the first failure is due to the self-interaction error in the orbital energies from the ground-state DFT calculation, while the latter is a similar self-interaction error in TDDFT arising through the electron transfer in the CT state. Possible correction schemes, such as inclusion of exact Hartree-Fock or exact Kohn-Sham exchange, as well as aspects of the exact xc-functional are discussed in this context. Furthermore, a practical approach is proposed which combines the benefits of TDDFT and configuration interaction singles (CIS) and which does not suffer from electron-transfer self-interaction. The latter approach is applied to a (1,4)-phenylene-linked zincbacteriochlorin-bacteriochlorin complex and to a bacteriochlorophyll-spheroidene complex, in which CT states may play important roles in energy and electron-transfer processes. The errors of TDDFT alone for the CT states are demonstrated, and reasonable estimates for the true excitation energies of these states are given.  相似文献

The first few excited states of the 11-cis-retinal (PSB11) chromophore have been studied at the coupled-cluster approximative singles and doubles (CC2) level using triple-zeta quality basis sets augmented with double sets of polarisation functions. The two lowest vertical excitation energies of 2.14 and 3.21 eV are in good agreement with recently reported experimental values of 2.03 and 3.18 eV obtained in molecular beam measurements. Calculations at the time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) level using the B3LYP hybrid functional yield vertical excitation energies of 2.34 and 3.10 eV for the two lowest states. Zero-point vibrational energy (ZPVE) corrections of -0.09 and -0.17 eV were deduced from the harmonic vibrational frequencies for the ground and excited states calculated at the density functional theory (DFT) and TDDFT level, respectively, using the B3LYP hybrid functional.  相似文献

Time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) was combined with the two-body fragment molecular orbital method (FMO2). In this FMO2-TDDFT scheme, the system is divided into fragments, and the electron density for fragments is determined self-consistently. Consequently, only one main fragment of interest and several fragment pairs including it are calculated by TDDFT. To demonstrate the accuracy of FMO2-TDDFT, we computed several low-lying singlet and triplet excited states of solvated phenol and polyalanine using our method and the standard TDDFT for the full system. The BLYP functional with the long-range correction (LC-BLYP) was employed with the 6-31G(*) basis set (some tests were also performed with 6-311G(*), as well as with B3LYP and time-dependent Hartree-Fock). Typically, FMO2-TDDFT reproduced the full TDDFT excitation energies within 0.1 eV, and for one excited state the error was about 0.2 eV. Beside the accurate reproduction of the TDDFT excitation energies, we also automatically get an excitation energy decomposition analysis, which provides the contributions of individual fragments. Finally, the efficiency of our approach was exemplified on the LC-BLYP6-31G(*) calculation of the lowest singlet excitation of the photoactive yellow protein which consists of 1931 atoms, and the obtained value of 3.1 eV is in agreement with the experimental value of 2.8 eV.  相似文献

The utility of time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) in predicting excitation energies is tested for the low lying excited states of F2, a system that has posed severe challenges to ab initio quantum theory. It is shown that TDDFT using B3LYP functional predicts the excitation energies in good agreement with experiment. In some cases, the agreement is better than that for the post-Hartree–Fock methods like CASSCF and MRCI.  相似文献

We have developed and implemented pseudospectral time‐dependent density‐functional theory (TDDFT) in the quantum mechanics package Jaguar to calculate restricted singlet and restricted triplet, as well as unrestricted excitation energies with either full linear response (FLR) or the Tamm–Dancoff approximation (TDA) with the pseudospectral length scales, pseudospectral atomic corrections, and pseudospectral multigrid strategy included in the implementations to improve the chemical accuracy and to speed the pseudospectral calculations. The calculations based on pseudospectral time‐dependent density‐functional theory with full linear response (PS‐FLR‐TDDFT) and within the Tamm–Dancoff approximation (PS‐TDA‐TDDFT) for G2 set molecules using B3LYP/6‐31G** show mean and maximum absolute deviations of 0.0015 eV and 0.0081 eV, 0.0007 eV and 0.0064 eV, 0.0004 eV and 0.0022 eV for restricted singlet excitation energies, restricted triplet excitation energies, and unrestricted excitation energies, respectively; compared with the results calculated from the conventional spectral method. The application of PS‐FLR‐TDDFT to OLED molecules and organic dyes, as well as the comparisons for results calculated from PS‐FLR‐TDDFT and best estimations demonstrate that the accuracy of both PS‐FLR‐TDDFT and PS‐TDA‐TDDFT. Calculations for a set of medium‐sized molecules, including Cn fullerenes and nanotubes, using the B3LYP functional and 6‐31G** basis set show PS‐TDA‐TDDFT provides 19‐ to 34‐fold speedups for Cn fullerenes with 450–1470 basis functions, 11‐ to 32‐fold speedups for nanotubes with 660–3180 basis functions, and 9‐ to 16‐fold speedups for organic molecules with 540–1340 basis functions compared to fully analytic calculations without sacrificing chemical accuracy. The calculations on a set of larger molecules, including the antibiotic drug Ramoplanin, the 46‐residue crambin protein, fullerenes up to C540 and nanotubes up to 14×(6,6), using the B3LYP functional and 6‐31G** basis set with up to 8100 basis functions show that PS‐FLR‐TDDFT CPU time scales as N2.05 with the number of basis functions. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

An implementation of time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) energy gradients into the Amsterdam density functional theory program package (ADF) is described. The special challenges presented by Slater-type orbitals in quantum chemical calculation are outlined with particular emphasis on details that are important for TDDFT gradients. Equations for the gradients of spin-flip TDDFT excitation energies are derived. Example calculations utilizing the new implementation are presented. The results of standard calculations agree well with previous results. It is shown that starting from a triplet reference, spin-flip TDDFT can successfully optimize the geometry of the four lowest singlet states of CH2 and three other isovalent species. Spin-flip TDDFT is used to calculate the potential energy curve of the breaking of the C?CC bond of ethane. The curve obtained is superior to that from a restricted density functional theory calculation, while at the same time the problems with spin contamination exhibited by unrestricted density functional theory calculations are avoided.  相似文献

We report accurate high level calculations of the optical gap and absorption spectrum of ultra small Si nanocrystals, with hydrogen and oxygen passivation, (with and without surface reconstruction). Our calculations have been performed in the framework of time dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) using the hybrid nonlocal exchange and correlation functional of Becke and Lee, Yang and Parr (B3LYP) and the multireference second-order perturbation theory (MR-MP2). We show that some of the details of the absorption and emission properties of the 1 nm Si nanoparticles can be efficiently described in the framework of TDDFT/B3LYP, by considering the effect of surface reconstruction and the geometry relaxation of the excited state. Additionally, we have examined the effect of oxygen contamination on the optical properties of 1 nm nanoparticles and its possible contribution to their experimentally observed absorption and emission properties.  相似文献

Excited states of two 7-aminocoumarin derivatives, coumarin 120 (7-amino-4-methylcoumarin) and coumarin 151 (7-amino-4-trifluoromethylcoumarin), were investigated using generalized multiconfigurational quasidegenerate perturbation theory (GMC-QDPT), multiconfigurational quasidegenerate perturbation theory (MC-QDPT) and time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) with the B3LYP and CAM-B3LYP functionals. The absorption and fluorescence spectra of C120 and C151 were calculated. We elucidated the characters of the low-lying states of C120 and C151. The absorption spectra calculated with GMC-QDPT and TDDFT B3LYP agreed well with the experimental data, while for the fluorescence spectra, the TDDFT calculations overestimated the fluorescence spectra compared to GMC-QDPT calculations. Utilizing active spaces with large numbers of electrons and orbitals for reference functions, GMC-QDPT showed a better performance than MC-QDPT with a complete active space self-consistent field (CASSCF) reference of active space with smaller number of electrons and orbitals. In our gas phase calculation, we found that the optimized structures for the first excited states have a planar amino group with a CN single bond, while the amino group is pyramidal in the ground state.  相似文献
