We have proposed and demonstrated an all-optical scheme of wavelength conversion based on cross-phase modulation (XPM). The frequency shift and broadening of a continuum wave induced by XPM in a dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF) is experimentally observed. Then, the wavelength conversion is achieved through the filtering by a fiber grating. The results indicate that wavelength conversion based on the cross-phase modulation of DSF is simple, efficient, and universal with wide conversion ranges and high rates.  相似文献

We report wavelength conversion within the 1.5-mum telecommunications band based on difference-frequency generation in periodically poled lithium niobate waveguides with integrated coupling structures. A conversion efficiency of -7 dB and a normalized efficiency of 260%/W are demonstrated. Static tests show that the conversion bandwidth is 72 nm and the conversion efficiency is constant over the 20-dB range of input powers tested.  相似文献

在光纤环形腔激光器中引入周期极化反转铌酸锂(PPLN)光波导,用该激光器产生的连续光作为抽运光和控制光,使其与外加的信号光发生非线性效应实现可调谐波长转换.介绍了基于准相位匹配的PPLN光波导中的和频与差频级联型全光波长转换器的基本原理.对抽运光、信号光、控制光以及转换光的光功率随着PPLN光波导的变化进行了模拟.还对转换效率随着转换光波长的变化进行了数值计算.实验验证了该波长转换器的可调谐性. 关键词: 周期极化反转铌酸锂 和频与差频 可调谐全光波长转换 光纤环形腔激光器  相似文献

The extinction and signal to noise ratios, the two main figures-of-merit for a wavelength converted signal are analyzed on the basis of the improved rate equations. The model accurately considers the mutual coupling parameter βm which indicates the efficiency of the wavelength conversion. A simple relationship among extinction ratio, signal to noise ratio and the mutual coupling parameter βm is given. With the simulation results, we find that the high extinction and signal to noise ratios depends on higher pump (i.e. original) power, optimum probe (i.e. converted) power and less wavelength spacing between them, which is in accordance with the analysis of mutual coupling parameter βm.  相似文献

We demonstrate stable wavelength conversion by using our proposed high-accurate all-optical limiter based on self-phase modulation (SPM) with preventing serious influences of input intensity fluctuation. Wavelength conversion is one of the typical non-linear optical signal processing for the next generation of photonic networks. And it is very sensitive to input intensity fluctuation. To prevent serious influences of intensity fluctuation, it is necessary for intensity fluctuation compensation technique with high-accurate limiting function. To pursue high-accurate limiting function, we have proposed a new approach: applying pre-chirping pulses before inputting to the SPM fiber. By using our proposed limiter, the stabilization of the wavelength conversion is significantly improved, and we confirm that our proposed limiter is very effective for the stabilization of subsequent wavelength conversion processing.  相似文献

A novel 40 Gbit/s reamplified-reshaping-retiming (3R) regenerator is proposed and demonstrated based on a two-ring injection mode-locked fibre laser as the clock recovery and the electro-absorption modulator of the reshaping optical decision. A numerical model describing the cross-absorption modulation effect in a bulk electroabsorption modulator is presented. By this model, the shape and the extinction ratio of the optical decision gate is improved by optimizing the parameters. The polarization mode dispersion mitigation by the 3R regenerator is experimentally demonstrated at 40 Gbit/s with improved bit-error-rate (BER) performance when the differential-time-delay value is set up to 40% of bit interval.  相似文献

全光波长转换是全光网络的关键技术之一。利用多模半导体激光器的速率方程,建立了基于半导体激光器的全光波长转换器的理论模型,该模型不仅考虑了注入信号光对激光腔内载流子的消耗,而且考虑了激光腔对注入信号光的放大作用。利用该模型分析了半导体激光器工作电流、注入信号光功率以及码率各参数对波长转换特性的影响。结果对于确定基于半导体激光器的全光波长转换器件的最佳工作条件有一定的参考价值。  相似文献

Tunable wavelength conversion between picosecond pulses is demonstrated by exploiting cascaded secondorder nonlinearity in periodically poled LiNbO3 waveguides when the pump pulse with 40-GHz repetition rate and 7.5-ps pulse width is adopted. No external continuous-wave input is required in the proposed wavelength converter. The converted signal wavelength can be tuned from 1519 to 1562.6 nm as the lasing wavelength is changed from 1534.5 to 1572.1 nm.This revised version was published online in August 2005 with a corrected cover date.  相似文献

Polarization-independent wavelength conversion is demonstrated by using four-wave mixing (FWM) in a single semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). In this scheme, all the incident fields are split into two orthogonal-polarized parts by polarizing beam splitters (PBS). Each of the two parts is then transmitted into one facet of the SOA and they are counter-propagating through the same amplifier. Wavelength conversion with the polarization sensitivity less than 1.3 dB is obtained over a range from 1510 to 1620 nm.  相似文献

Using a 7.5 μm diameter disk fabricated with III-V-on-silicon fabrication technology, we demonstrate bias-free all-optical wavelength conversion for non-return-to-zero on-off keyed pseudorandom bit sequence (PRBS) data at the speed of 10 Gbits/s with an extinction ratio of more than 12 dB. The working principle of such a wavelength converter is based on free-carrier-induced refractive index modulation in a pump-probe configuration. We believe it to be the first bias-free on-chip demonstration of all-optical wavelength conversion using PRBS data. All-optical gating measurements in the pump-probe configuration with the same device have revealed that it is possible to achieve wavelength conversion beyond 20 Gbits/s.  相似文献

Bandwidth and peak efficiency are enhanced for wavelength conversion based on induced modulation instability by use of dispersion-shifted fiber in which the nonlinearity (n(2)/A(eff)) is enhanced by a factor of ~4.5 over that of conventional dispersion-shifted fiber. We experimentally obtain a peak conversion efficiency as high as 28 dB over a 40-nm bandwidth with 600 mW of peak pump power. Considerations for further enhancement of fiber-based wavelength conversion are also discussed.  相似文献

提出利用光纤中非线性效应受激喇曼散射(stimulated Raman scattering, SRS)实现波长转换的原理方案和相应的理论分析模型,并进行实验验证,将经过放大后的信号光和连续探测光同时注入光纤,在光纤中进行SRS放大,实现信号之间的转换。结果表明:利用SRS可实现波长转换,可实现跨几个THz的波长之间的转换。得到最大转换效率和消光比分别为-17.3 dB和15.7 dB。通过改变探测光的波长,可实现相隔几个THz光信号的全光波长转换和可调谐波长转换。  相似文献

In this paper, NRZ format wavelength conversion using cross absorption modulation (XAM) in InGaAsP MQW electroabsorption modulator (EAM) is investigated experimentally in detail for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. The influence of two key operating parameters, input signal power and bias voltage of EAM, on wavelength conversion performance is studied. Experimental results indicate that there exists optimal bias voltage for fixed input signal power and that there exists also optimal input signal power for fixed bias voltage and the lowest power penalty of 0.9 dB is obtained by optimizing these two parameters. The physical explanations are given for these results based on operating characteristic of EAM device. Finally, the probe light wavelength dependence of wavelength conversion is studied for span of 1530–1560 nm.  相似文献

Consisting of a differential group delay (DGD) generator and a Faraday rotator (FR), this PMD compensator has only two degrees of freedom. Feedback control and compensation algorithm are both very simple. Ultra-fast carrier decay, recently discovered in a hydrogenated amorphous silicon waveguide, can be exploited for pattern-effect-free all-optical signal processing based on optical Kerr nonlinearity. In this study, we utilized a 10 Gbit/s RZ-OOK data stream as a pump for degenerate four-wave mixing in a low-loss hydrogenated amorphous silicon waveguide. The propagation loss of the waveguide used was 1.0±0.2 dB/cm at 1550 nm. Unlike crystalline silicon waveguides, no noticeable difference was observed in the BER characteristics between the cases of PRBS 2(7)-1 and 2(31)-1.  相似文献
