We present scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy of the newly discovered superconductor CaC6. The tunneling conductance spectra, measured between 3 and 15 K, show a clear superconducting gap in the quasiparticle density of states. The gap function extracted from the spectra is in good agreement with the conventional BCS theory with Delta0=1.6+/-0.2 meV. The possibility of gap anisotropy and two-gap superconductivity is also discussed. In a magnetic field, direct imaging of the vortices allows us to deduce a coherence length in the ab plane xiab approximately 33 nm.  相似文献

The temperature dependence of the in-plane magnetic penetration depth, lambda(ab)(T), has been measured in a c-axis oriented polycrystalline CaC(6) bulk sample using a high-resolution mutual inductance technique. A clear exponential behavior of lambda(ab)(T) has been observed at low temperatures, strongly suggesting isotropic s-wave pairing. Data fit using the standard BCS theory yields lambda(ab)(0) = (720 +/- 80) A and delta(0) = (1.79 +/- 0.08) meV. The ratio 2delta(0)/k(B)T(c) = (3.6 +/- 0.2) gives indication for a weakly coupled superconductor.  相似文献

We investigate Andreev reflection (AR) tunneling through a ferromagnet-quantum dot-superconductor (F-QD-S) system in the presence of an external ac field. The intradot spin-flip scattering in the QD is involved. Using the nonequilibrium Green function and BCS quasiparticle spectrum for superconductor, time-averaged AR conductance is formulated. The competition between the intradot spin-flip scattering and photon-assisted tunneling dominates the resonant behaviors of the time-averaged AR conductance. For weak intradot spin-flip scattering strengths, the AR conductance shows a series of equal interval resonant levels. However, the single-peak at main resonant level develops into a well-resolved double-peak resonance at a strong intradot spin-flip scattering strength. Remarkable, multiple-photon-assisted tunneling that generates photonic sideband peaks with a variable interval has been found. In addition, the AR conductance-bias voltage characteristic shows a transition between the single-peak to double-peak resonance as the ratio of the two tunneling strengths varies.  相似文献

We report the discovery of superconductivity below 1.65(6) K in Sr-intercalated graphite SrC(6), by susceptibility and specific heat (C(p)) measurements. In comparison with CaC(6), we found that the anisotropy of the upper critical fields for SrC(6) is much reduced. The C(p) anomaly at T(c) is smaller than the BCS prediction, indicating an anisotropic superconducting gap for SrC6 similar to CaC6. The significantly lower T(c) of SrC(6) as compared to CaC(6) can be understood in terms of "negative" pressure effects, which decreases the electron-phonon coupling for both in-plane intercalant and the out-of-plane C phonon modes. We observed no superconductivity for BaC(6) down to 0.3 K.  相似文献

Recently discovered superconductivity in YbC6 and CaC6, at temperatures substantially higher than previously known for intercalated graphites, raises several new questions. (1) Is the mechanism considerably different from that of previously known intercalated graphites? (2) If superconductivity is conventional, what are the relevant phonons? (3) Given the extreme similarity between YbC6 and CaC6, why are their critical temperatures so different? We address these questions on the basis of first-principles calculations and conclude that coupling with intercalant phonons is likely to be the main force for superconductivity in YbC6 and CaC6, but not in alkaline-intercalated compounds, and explain the difference in T(c) by the "isotope effect" due to the difference in Yb and Ca atomic masses.  相似文献

The resonant behaviors of spin-dependent linear AR conductance, the spin-dependent AR current, the electron occupation number and spin accumulation in the QD are theoretically investigated in the FM/QD/SC system with intradot spin-flip scattering. The novel resonant behaviors of spin-dependent AR conductance versus Fermi energy are revealed, which are rather different from the AR conductance versus the dot's energy level case [Cao et al., Phys. Rev. B 70 (2004) 235341]. It is proved that the split of the resonant peak can be induced by the competition between the coupling strengths to the FM and SC leads, the intradot spin-flip scattering, and the gate voltage. The number, the widths, and the distance of the peaks could be controlled by tuning the relevant parameters. The resonance of AR current can take place only when the energy level of QD lines up with the right lead chemical potential and blows the left lead chemical potential. The magnitude of the resonant AR current depends on the number of resonant levels involved in the Andreev tunneling process. It is also proved that the spin-flip scattering can suppress the spin accumulation effectively, and induce the spin polarization of AR conductance and AR current simultaneously. The results make us understand better the fundamental in this system, and are useful for the design of spintronic devices.  相似文献

We investigate the quantum transport properties through a special kind of quantum dot(QD) system composed of a serially coupled multi-QD-pair(multi-QDP) chain and side-coupled Majorana bound states(MBSs) by using the Green functions method, where the conductance can be classified into two kinds:the electron tunneling(ET) conductance and the Andreev reflection(AR) one.First we find that for the nonzero MBS-QDP coupling a sharp AR-induced zero-bias conductance peak with the height of e~2/h is present(or absent) when the MBS is coupled to the far left(or the other) QDP.Moreover, the MBS-QDP coupling can suppress the ET conductance and strengthen the AR one,and further split into two sub-peaks each of the total conductance peaks of the isolated multi-QDPs,indicating that the MBS will make obvious influences on the competition between the ET and AR processes. Then we find that the tunneling rate ΓLis able to affect the conductances of leads L and R in different ways, demonstrating that there exists a ΓL-related competition between the AR and ET processes. Finally we consider the effect of the inter-MBS coupling on the conductances of the multi-QDP chains and it is shown that the inter-MBS coupling will split the zero-bias conductance peak with the height of e~2/h into two sub-peaks.As the inter-MBS coupling becomes stronger, the two sub-peaks are pushed away from each other and simultaneously become lower, which is opposite to that of the single QDP chain where the two sub-peaks with the height of about e~2/2h become higher. Also, the decay of the conductance sub-peaks with the increase of the MBS-QDP coupling becomes slower as the number of the QDPs becomes larger. This research should be an important extension in studying the transport properties in the kind of QD systems coupled with the side MBSs,which is helpful for understanding the nature of the MBSs,as well as the MBS-related QD transport properties.  相似文献

By employing the nonequilibrium Green's function, we investigate the spin-dependent linear Andreev reflection (AR) resonant tunneling through a quantum dot connected to a ferromagnetic lead and a superconducting lead, where the magnetization direction in the ferromagnetic lead can be tuned by one. We focus our attention on the effects of the magnetic fields on the AR conductance. One high conductance peak and one low conductance peak are developed in the linear AR conductance when a stronger magnetic field is considered. The interplay between the spin-flip scattering and the magnetic fields on the AR conductance are also studied.  相似文献

Andreev reflection(AR) in a normal-metal/quantum-dot/superconductor(N–QD–S) system with coupled Majorana bound states(MBSs) is investigated theoretically. We find that in the N–QD–S system, the AR can be enhanced when coupling to the MBSs is incorporated. Fano line-shapes can be observed in the AR conductance spectrum when there is an appropriate QD–MBS coupling or MBS–MBS coupling. The AR conductance is always e~2/2h at the zero Fermi energy point when only QD–MBSs coupling is considered. In addition, the resonant AR occurs when the MBS–MBS coupling roughly equals to the QD energy level. We also find that an AR antiresonance appears when the QD energy level approximately equals to the sum of the QD–MBS coupling and the MBS–MBS coupling. These features may serve as characteristic signatures for the probe of MBSs.  相似文献

Within the framework of non-equilibrium Green’s functions, we investigate the spin-dependent Andreev reflection (AR) in a three-terminal Aharonov-Bohm interferometer with double quantum dot, taking account of the coherent indirect coupling via the superconducting reservoir. It is found that the time-reversal symmetry is broken by the crossed Andreev reflection (CAR) process, and moreover that the spin-value effect of the linear conductance, the spin-polarised AR current, and a pure spin current can be generated by means of the normal AR and the CAR. Expressions for the AR conductances (the transport coefficients) governing the AR properties of this system are derived analytically. The effect of the coherent indirect coupling on the conductance, the Andreev reflected tunneling magnetoresistance (ARTMR), and the spin-related current in the presence of the AR are amply analyzed. Our results indicate that the optimal properties of this system can be realised by tuning the external parameters.  相似文献

Andreev reflection(AR) refers to the electron-hole conversion at the normal metal-superconductor interface. In a threedimensional metal with a spherical Fermi surface, retro(specular) AR can occur with the sign reversal of all three(a single)components of particle velocity. Here, we predict a novel type of AR with the inversion of two velocity components, dubbed"anomalous Andreev reflection"(AAR), which can be realized in a class of materials with a torus-shaped Fermi surface, such as doped nodal line semimetals. For its toroidal circle perpendicular to the interface, the Fermi torus doubles the AR channels and generates multiple AR processes. In particular, the AAR and retro AR are found to dominate electron transport in the light and heavy doping regimes, respectively. We show that the AAR visibly manifests itself as a ridge structure in the spatially resolved nonlocal conductance, in contrast to the peak structure for the retro AR. Our work opens a new avenue for the AR spectroscopy and offers a clear transport signature of the torus-shaped Fermi surface.  相似文献

The occurrence of nonadiabatic effects in the vibrational properties of metals has been predicted since the 1960s, but hardly confirmed experimentally. We report the first fully ab initio calculations of nonadiabatic frequencies of a number of conventional (hcp Ti and Mg) and layered metals (MgB2, CaC6, and other intercalated graphites). Nonadiabatic effects can be spectacularly large (up to 30% of the phonon frequencies) in both cases, but they can only be experimentally observed in the Raman spectra of layered compounds. In layered metals nonadiabatic effects are crucial to explaining the observed Raman shifts and linewidths. Moreover, we show that those quantities can be used to extract the electron momentum-relaxation time.  相似文献

The conductance properties of the two type NC3 nanodevices are investigated by ab initio method. The different substitution of carbon by nitrogen in graphite leads to different band gap energies. Consequently, the conductance of the two type devices appears a large discrepancy and diverse characteristics and each has its own merit. The connecting manner of the NC3 ribbon with electrodes results in different conductance as well. In general, the transport charge capacity alone the NC3 zigzag direction is well than another direction, especially for type 1. The optimization demonstrate type 1 is stable than type 2.  相似文献

Four-component Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations are applied to study tunneling conductance spectra of ferromagnet/ferromagnet/d-wave superconductor (F1/F2/d-wave S) tunnel junctions and to find out signs of spin-triplet pairing correlations induced in the proximity structure. The pairing correlations with equal spins arises from the novel Andreev reflection (AR), which requires at least three factors: the usual AR at the F2/S interface, spin flip in the F2 layer, and superconducting coherence kept up in the F2 layer. Effects of angle α between magnetizations of the two F layers, polarizations of the F1 and F2 layers, the thickness of the F2 layer, and the orientation of the d-wave S crystal on the tunneling conductance are investigated. A conversion from a zero-bias conductance dip at α = 0 to a zero-bias conductance peak at a certain value of α can be seen as a sign of generated spin-triplet correlations.

We report high resolution transmission electron microscopy and ab initio calculation results for defect formation in sharp pyramidal Pt nanocontacts. Our results show that there is a size limit to the existence of twins (extended structural defects). These defects are always present but blocked away from the tip axes. They may act as scattering planes, influencing the electron conductance for Pt nanocontacts at room temperature and Ag/Au nanocontacts at low temperature (<150 K).  相似文献

We combine ab initio density functional and quantum transport calculations based on the nonequilibrium Green's function formalism to compare structural, electronic, and transport properties of Mo6S6-xIx nanowires with carbon nanotubes. We find systems with x=2 to be particularly stable and rigid, with their electronic structure and conductance close to that of metallic (13,13) single-wall carbon nanotubes. Mo6S6-xIx nanowires are conductive irrespective of their structure, more easily separable than carbon nanotubes, and capable of forming ideal contacts to Au leads through thio groups.  相似文献

We investigate theoretically the electron transport properties of a two-sublevel quantum wire irradiated by a strong laser field resonant with the quasiparticle transition at low temperatures. Using the method of the Keldysh equation of motion for nonequilibrium Green function, we examine the time-averaged conductance for the system with photon polarization parallel and perpendicular to the tunnelling current direction, respectively. We demonstrate that, by analysing some numerical examples, a feature of absolute negative conductance appears in the parallel case, while the conductance shows a symmetry distributed peaks in the Derpendicular case.  相似文献

The electronic transport properties of a single thiolated arylethynylene molecule with 9,10-dihydroanthracene core, denoted as TADHA, is studied by using non-equilibrium Green's function formalism combined with ab initio calculations. The numerical results show that the TADHA molecule exhibits excellent negative differential conductance(NDC) behavior at lower bias regime as probed experimentally. The NDC behavior of TADHA molecule originates from the Stark effect of the applied bias voltage, by which the highest occupied molecular orbital(HOMO) and the HOMO-1 are pulled apart and become localized. The NDC behavior of TADHA molecular system is tunable by changing the electrode distance.Shortening the electrode separation can enhance the NDC effect which is attributed to the possible increase of coupling between the two branches of TADHA molecule.  相似文献
