A series of microcapsules filled with epoxy resins with poly(urea-formaldehyde) (PUF) shell were synthesized by in situ polymerization, and they were heat-treated for 2 h at 100 °C, 120 °C, 140 °C, 160 °C, 180 °C and 200 °C. The effects of surface morphology, wall shell thickness and diameter on the thermal stability of microcapsules were investigated. The chemical structure and surface morphology of microcapsules were investigated using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscope (FTIR) and scanning electron microscope (SEM), respectively. The thermal properties of microcapsules were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA and DTA) and by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The thermal damage mechanisms of microcapsules at lower temperature (<251 °C) are the diffusion of the core material out of the wall shell or the breakage of the wall shell owing to the mismatch of the thermal expansion of core and shell materials of microcapsules. The thermal damage mechanisms of microcapsules at higher temperature (>251 °C) are the decomposition of shell material and core materials. Increasing the wall shell thickness and surface compactness can enhance significantly the weight loss temperatures (Td) of microcapsules. The microcapsules with mean wall shell thickness of 30 ± 5 μm and smoother surface exhibit higher thermal stability and can maintain quite intact up to approximately 180 °C.  相似文献

Crystallization and prevention of supercooling of microencapsulated n-alkanes   总被引:10,自引:0,他引:10
Microencapsulated n-alkanes (n-octadecane, n-nonadecane, and n-eicosane) were synthesized by in situ polymerization using urea-melamine-formaldehyde polymer as shells. Microcapsules 5.0 and 10.0 wt% of 1-tetradecanol, paraffin, and 1-octadecanol were used as nucleating agents. The fabrication was characterized using Fourier transform infrared, light microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. The crystallization and prevention of supercooling of the microcapsules are studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and wide-angle X-ray diffraction. The crystal system of the microencapsulated n-alkane is the same as that of the bulk. The enthalpies of the microcapsules containing 70 wt% n-alkanes are approximately 160 J/g. The melting temperature of the n-alkanes in the microcapsule is the same as that in the bulk. There are multiple peaks on the DSC cooling curves that are attributed to liquid-rotator, rotator-crystal, and liquid-crystal transitions. The DSC cooling behavior of microencapsulated n-octadecane is affected by the average diameters. The measured maximum degree of supercooling of the microencapsulated n-octadecane is approximately 26.0 degrees C at a heating and cooling rate of 10.0 degrees C/min. The degree of supercooling of microencapsulated n-octadecane is decreased by adding 10.0 wt% of 1-octadecanol as a nucleating agent.  相似文献

-spodumene (LiAlSi2O6) is one of the crystalline phase of the lithium aluminosilicate (LAS) glass-ceramics, having a low thermal expansion coefficient. The sol–gel process is an advantageous processing route for LAS materials, compared to melting, as it avoids lithium oxide losses and formation of undesired crystalline phases. It is very important to understand the crystallisation kinetics in order to assess the amount of the different crystalline phases formed for a given thermal cycle. This study reports the application of the non-isothermic method for evaluation of crystallization kinetic parameters, based on differential thermal analysis (DTA) experiments under constant heating rates (10, 12, 15 and 20°C min–1) up to 1000°C. The Johnson-Mehl-Avrami (JMA) theory, modified with distinct approaches, lead to Avrami coefficients, n, in the range of 2.1–2.4 and apparent activation energies, Ea, of 345–362 kJ mol–1. A simultaneous tridimensional and bidimensional crystal growth mechanism for a constant number of nuclei is proposed for -spodumene crystallization.  相似文献

The kinetics of nonisothermal crystallization and melting of blends of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) and polyethylene high density with normal molecular weight (NMWPE) are investigated by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Mixing the components at a temperature below the flow temperature of UHMWPE (215 °C) results in increased crystallization/melting rates of the individual components in the blends above the corresponding additive values. The morphological observations of the blends, carried out by means of polarization microscopy, show that a strong boundary of both types of structures (UHMWPE non-flowing aggregates and NMWPE spherulite structures) does not exist. The NMWPE spherulites' dimensions decrease on increasing the UHMWPE concentration in the blends, but their number increases. The facilitation of the crystallization/melting of the components in the blends is explained in terms of mutual influence exhibited by the components with respect to each other. It is due to the inner stresses in nonflowing UHMWPE characterized with a lot of entangled tie molecules and to the partial co-crystallization of NMWPE molecules with the flowing part of UHMWPE. At mixing temperatures above 215 °C the melting/crystallization integral kinetic curves have only one linear part in contrast to these of the same blend (11 ratio of components), prepared at 190 °C. The rates of melting/crystallization remain almost constant with the increase of the mixing temperatures.  相似文献

Poly(2-methylpentamethylene terephthalamide) (Nylon M5T) is a new high temperature aromatic polyamide developed by Hoechst Celanese. In this paper thermal properties of Nylon M5T chips, as well as as-spun and drawn fibers were studied by DSC, DMA, hot stage microscopy and WAXS.T g of the fully amorphous Nylon M5T is 143°C when measured by DSC;T g increases with crystallinity to 151°C. The temperature dependence of the solid and melt specific heat capacities has also been determined. The heat capacity increase at the glass transition of the amorphous polymer is 103.9 J °C–1 mol–1.T g by DMA for the as-spun fiber is 155°C, for a drawn fiber is 180°C. Three secondary transitions were observed by DMA in addition to the glass transition. These correspond to a local mode relaxation of the methylene groups at –120°C, onset of rotation of the amide-groups at –65°C and the onset of the rotation of the phenylenegroups (at 63°C). The crystallinity of Nylon M5T strongly depends on the rate of cooling from the melt. The isothermal crystallization data are melt temperature dependent: two-dimensional crystallization takes place when the samples are crystallized from higher melt temperatures, and this phase changes into a spherulitic structure during cooling to room temperature. Spherulitic crystallization occurs when lower melt temperatures are used. This polymer has three crystal forms as indicated by DSC, DMA and WAXS data. The crystal to crystal transitions are clearly visible when amorphous samples are heated in the DSC, or the DMA curves of as-spun fibers are recorded. It is experimentally shown that a considerable melting of the lower temperature crystal forms takes place during the crystal to crystal transitions. The equilibrium melting point as measured by the Hoffman-Weeks method, has been determined to be 339°C.Dedicated to Professor Bernhard Wunderlich on the occasion of his 65th birthday  相似文献

Microencapsulated n-octadecane with melamine–formaldehyde resin (MF) shell was synthesized by in situ polymerization. Ammonium chloride was used to reduce the residual formaldehyde content of microencapsulated phase change materials (microPCMs) caused by the inherent characteristics of MF. Moreover, microPCMs were heat-treated at 160 °C for 30 min. The surface morphology of the microPCMs fabricated at various microencapsulation periods was examined, and the shell thickness was measured. The effects of heat treatment on the surface morphology, residual formaldehyde content, phase change properties, and thermal stability of the microcapsules were systematically investigated. The globular surface of microcapsules fabricated at microencapsulation period of 120 min was smooth and compact with an average diameter about 2.2 μm, and the shell thickness was ranged from 30 to 70 nm. The thermal stability of heat-treated microcapsules enhanced significantly as microencapsulation period increased; in addition, the residual formaldehyde content of microcapsules decreased from 125 ± 1 mg/kg to 19 ± 1 mg/kg.  相似文献

The influence of melting temperature and time on the thermal behaviour of poly(l-lactic acid) (PLLA) was studied with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Different melting conditions were investigated at temperature ranging from 200 to 210 °C, and for time from 2 to 20 min. For lower-molecular-weight PLLA, a single exothermic peak could be observed at cooling rate of 2 °C/min, after melted at different conditions. The obtained peak temperature and degrees of crystallinity dramatically increased with an increase of melting temperature or time. During subsequent heating scans, double melting peaks could be observed, which were significantly affected by prior melting conditions. The degradation of this material in the melt and the melt/re-crystallization mechanism might be responsible for the observations above. Apart from double melting, double cold crystallization peaks were observed during heating traces for this material after fast cooling (20 °C/min) from the melt. Prior melting conditions could significantly influence the cold crystallization behaviour. The competition between the crystallization from the nuclei remained after cooling, and that from spontaneous nucleation might be responsible for the appearance of double peaks. Additionally, the influence of melting conditions on the thermal behaviour of PLLA was dependent on the initial molecular weight.  相似文献

Solution casted films of segmented polyurethanes based on poly (ethylene adipate) glycol, 4,4diphenylmethanediisocyanate, and 1,4 butanediol were studied by thermal-mechanical methods including differential scanning calorimetry and mechanical hysteresis. Data demonstrate that, following thermal treatment at 70 °C for 15 min, these polymers show time-dependent thermal and mechanical properties. In fact, because 70 °C is a temperature greater than the melting point of soft segments (about 42 °C), the soft-segment crystals are melted and their crystallization is time dependent. The results are explained in terms of phase separation. In particular, the sample with better phase separation has a faster and larger recovery.  相似文献

The melting behavior of the -form of isotactic polypropylene (-iPP) was investigated as a function of crystallization time and temperature. Calcium suberate, a selective -nucleating agent was used to produce samples that consist entirely of -form i-PP. The experimental melting points were recorded at different crystallization times and were extrapolated to the start of the crystallization process in order to eliminate the effect of lamellar thickening. Using the non-linear Hoffman—Weeks approach to correlate these extrapolated experimental melting temperatures with the corresponding crystallization temperatures, an equilibrium melting point of 209°C was obtained for -iPP. The equilibrium melting point estimated through the non-linear Hoffman—Weeks analysis is about 30°C higher than that (T m 0=177°C) obtained on the basis of the linear extrapolation. These results are consistent with earlier claims that a linear extrapolation of T mT c data leads to an underestimation of the equilibrium melting point. The results obtained for -iPP exemplify the importance of accounting for both the isothermal lamellar thickening effects and the non-linearity in the T mT c correlation, when the determination of an equilibrium melting point is carried out using a procedure based on the predictions of the Lauritzen—Hoffman secondary nucleation theory. This revised version was published online in November 2005 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The differences in bound water content of beef semimembranous muscle samples obtained from previously chilled (24 h at +4°C) middle-aged beef carcasses were determined by the use of DSC. Initially, samples obtained from fresh, unprocessed meat were frozen at –40, –50 or –65°C to determine their melting peaks for freezable water (free water) content with the use of DSC. The samples were then subjected to an environment with an ambient temperature of –30, –35, –40 or –45°C, with no air circulation, or with an air circulation speed of 2 m s–1, until a thermal core temperature of –18°C was attained; this was followed by thawing the samples until a thermal core temperature of 0°C was reached. This process was followed by subjecting the samples to the ambient temperatures mentioned above, to accomplish complete freezing and thawing of the samples, with DSC, and thereby determination of the freezable water contents, which were then used to determine the peaks of melting. The calculated peak areas were divided by the latent heat of melting for pure water, to determine the freezable water contents of the samples. The percentage freezable water content of each sample was determined by dividing its freezable water content by its total water content; and the bound water content of each sample was determined by subtracting the percentage free water content from the total. In view of the fact that the free water content of a sample is completely in the frozen phase at temperatures of –40°C and below, the calculations of free and bound water contents of the samples were based on the averages of values obtained at three different temperatures.  相似文献

Preparation and Characterization of Forsterite (Mg2SiO4) Xerogels   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Mg2SiO4 gels were prepared from alkoxide precursors, and the formation of the forsterite crystal phase was studied after heat treatments up to 1200°C. Prehydrolyzed TEOS in solution with 2-methoxyethanol was mixed with Mg(OEt)2, and the solution was hydrolyzed using excess water. The resultant gels were dried at 100°C to form xerogels which were subsequently powdered. These powders were characterized using thermal analysis (DTA and TGA), surface area analysis (BET), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).DTA and XRD indicated that forsterite crystallized at 770°C, and by 1000°C the powders were predominantly crystalline. BET gave powder surface areas between 400 and 550 m2 g–1. TEM revealed angular particles with sizes between 0.2 and 2 m. The low temperature of crystallization of forsterite indicates a high degree of intimate mixing between the precursor alkoxides, although XRD indicated some degree of inhomogeneity.  相似文献

A thermal study using DSC and Hot Stage Microscopy (HSM) was carried out to investigate the interaction in solid state of the binary system PEG 4000 — oxazepam, and to establish their phase diagram. The eutectic composition, which melting occurs at lower temperature as compared with the pure components, has been determined. The results obtained by DSC and HSM have indicated that PEG 4000 — oxazepam mixtures displays no obvious incompatibilities, and that the system shows a typical eutectic behaviour. However because of the closeness of the melting of PEG 4000 to the eutectic temperature, it was difficult to determine precisely the eutectic composition and temperature on the basis of DSC measurements alone. The use of heats of fusion corresponding to physical mixtures allowed an estimation of the eutectic composition at 6% w/w oxazepam. Additional information of temperature (57.6C) and composition (5–10% w/w oxazepam) of the eutectic was obtained by HSM using the contact method. This low melting temperature in this range of compositions offers advantages in terms of drug stability and easy manufacture.  相似文献

This article records the diversely reported melting temperatures of 3,6-diamino-9H-carbazole (DAC) and 3,6-dinitro-9H-carbazole (DNC), and reports a reinvestigation on their melting phenomena, and associated specific observations. A rationalization of these reports has been attempted on the basis of IR spectroscopic, X-ray diffraction, thermal response, solubility behavior, and differential scanning calorimetric data on DAC and DNC. The data indicate that an exothermic inter-molecular deaminative self-condensation involving N9H and NH2 sets in prior to melting of DAC, which obscures the actual melting process. An extrapolated onset melting temperature of 241.0 °C and a peak temperature of 296.5 °C at zero heating rate have been assigned for DAC from DSC measurements. A possible structure of the polymeric self-condensation product is also presented. For DNC, a peak melting temperature of 296.5 ± 1.8 °C, but no onset melting temperature could be assigned.  相似文献

Summary Thermal and crystalline behaviour of nylon 12 annealed at low supercooling for 10–2500 hours were studied by DSC, SAXS, WAXS and electron microscopy. The melting temperature and the heat of melting increased on annealing time and temperature from 174 °C and 10 cal/g to 187 °C and 23 cal/g, and at the same time the long period was enhanced from 80 to 160 Å. Long time annealing caused a partial transformation of the-crystal structure to the-crystalline modification.Annealed nylon 12 consisted typical folded chain spherulites of increased latteral dimensions. The extrapolated heat of meltingH m * of the crystalline phase of nylon 12 in the-form is 50 cal/g.With 9 figures  相似文献

Lithium polyphosphate crystals produced by crystallization during polymerization and crystallization from the polymer melt were analyzed by thermal analysis. The glass-transition and melting temperature, heat of fusion, and entropy of fusion were found to be 336°C, 651.5°C, 21 kJ/mole, and 23 J/deg mole, respectively. Crystallization from the macromolecular melt was followed by thermal analysis, x-ray diffraction, and electron and optical microscopy. It could be shown that chain folding may be the first step to crystallization from the macromolecular melt. Oligomers could not effectively nucleate crystallization. Lithium polyphosphate is shown to present a prime example of the processes involved in crystallization during polymerization and macromolecular melt crystallization.  相似文献

Soybean-Phosphatidylcholine Phospholipon® 100 has a stable gel conformation in the as-prepared state. We observed a main phase transition (chain melting) above 30 °C in the first heating run. This transition is marked 1. by a change of the lamellar repeat distance recorded by small angle X-ray diffraction, and 2. by an increase of the imaginary part of the dielectric constant. After the first heating up to + 90 °C the chains melt in a broad temperature range between –60 °C and +90 °C. The high stability of chain conformation in the temperature range –60 °C to +30 °C of the as-prepared state is due to the low water content of the material.  相似文献

It was found by DTA and TG that [Phenyl2I][Ag(CN)2] in the solid state is chemically stable on heating in argon up to 160°C. During heating to higher temperatures it decomposes, forming volatile products such as [Phenyl]I, [Phenyl]NC and (CN)2 [1]. After heating the sample to 500°C metallic silver resulted. The volatile and intermediate solid products were analysed by IR-spectroscopy.It was found by means of DTA and ETA that an isophase reversible transition takes place when the sample is heated and cooled, not higher than 100°C. At heating higher than 100°C the sample melts (melting pointT m=135°C). The enthalpy melting was determined by means of DSC (H=–28 kJ·mol–1).By means of ETA the disorder degree of the final decomposition product was estimated. The value of the activation energy of radon diffusion in the temperature range 720°–500°C equals 32.6 kJ·mol–1.Dedicated to Prof. I. N. In this paper, cetyl pyridium chloride (CPC) was employed to modify the montmorillonite. TGA analysis shows that the organic modified clay has higher thermal stability than hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride modified montmorillonite and is suitable to be used for preparing poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT)/clay nanocomposites at the high temperature. And then PBT/clay nanocomposites were prepared by direct melt intercalation. The results of XRD, TEM and HREM experiments show the formation of exfoliated-intercalated structure. The thermal stability of the nanocomposites does not evidently decrease, but the char residue at 600 °C remarkably increase compared with pure PBT. DSC results indicate that clay improves the melting temperature, the crystallization rate and crystallinity of the PBT molecules in the nanocomposites.  相似文献

Melamine-formaldehyde (MF) resin microcapsules containing decabromodiphenyl ether (DBDPO) with better thermal stability were successfully prepared by in situ polymerization, DBDPO being the core material and MF resins being the wall materials. Chemical structure of the prepared microcapsules was characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Morphologies and thermal properties were also investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), respectively. The results indicated that MF microcapsules with DBDPO particles prepared in this study showed better thermal stability, and could be used as effective flame retardant even for the resins which should be processed at temperatures higher than 350 °C.  相似文献
