Let be the absolute Galois group of , and let T be the complete rooted d-ary tree, where d ≥ 2. In this article, we study “arboreal” representations of into the automorphism group of T, particularly in the case d = 2. In doing so, we propose a parallel to the well-developed and powerful theory of linear p-adic representations of . We first give some methods of constructing arboreal representations and discuss a few results of other authors concerning their size in certain special cases. We then discuss the analogy between arboreal and linear representations of . Finally, we present some new examples and conjectures, particularly relating to the question of which subgroups of Aut(T) can occur as the image of an arboreal representation of .   相似文献

Let (V, g) be a Riemannian manifold and let be the isometric immersion operator which, to a map , associates the induced metric on V, where denotes the Euclidean scalar product in . By Nash–Gromov implicit function theorem is infinitesimally invertible over the space of free maps. In this paper we study non-free isometric immersions . We show that the operator (where denotes the space of C - smooth quadratic forms on ) is infinitesimally invertible over a non-empty open subset of and therefore is an open map in the respective fine topologies.   相似文献

We consider cocycles over certain hyperbolic actions, , and show rigidity properties for cocycles with values in a Lie group or a diffeomorphism group, which are close to identity on a set of generators, and are sufficiently smooth. The actions we consider are Cartan actions of or , for , and Γ torsion free cocompact lattice. The results in this paper rely on a technique developed recently by D. Damjanović and A. Katok.   相似文献

We give examples of smooth projective complex varieties of dimension d ≥ 4 and primes ℓ such that the morphic cohomology group is infinite, and is not finitely generated as a rational vector space. In particular, for these examples the semi-topological K-group has infinite dimension.  相似文献

Let R, S be Bezout domains. Assume that n is an integer ≥ 3, 1 ≤ k ≤ n − 2. Denoted by the k-dimensional Grassmann space on . Let be a map. This paper proves the following are equivalent: (i) is an adjacency preserving bijection in both directions. (ii) is a diameter preserving bijection in both directions. Moreover, Chow’s theorem on Grassmann spaces over division rings is extended to the case of Bezout domains: If is an adjacency preserving bijection in both directions, then is induced by either a collineation or the duality of a collineation. Let M be a four-holed sphere and Γ the mapping class group of M fixing the boundary ∂M. The group Γ acts on which is the space of completely reducible SL (2, -gauge equivalence classes of flat SL -connections on M with fixed holonomy on ∂M. Let and be the compact component of the real points of . These points correspond to SU(2)-representations or SL(2, -representations. The Γ-action preserves and we study the topological dynamics of the Γ-action on and show that for a dense set of holonomy , the Γ-orbits are dense in . We also produce a class of representations such that the Γ-orbit of [ρ] is finite in the compact component of , but is dense in SL(2, .Mathematics Subject Classiffications (2000). 57M05, 54H20, 11D99  相似文献

Summary Quaternion generalized fiber bundles are studied, both isomorphic to global tensorial product ordinary quaternion fiber bundles right and left respectively) and quite general ones. A cohomology class is considered which represents the obstruction in order the fiber bundle be a tensorial product. Several properties and a splitting principle are proved for bundles . On this ground and founding on a convenient bundle BE → X associated to jaz (that we call Bonan's bundle and for which ɛ( =ɛ(BE)) relations are stated among Stiefel-Whitney classes of , BE and the class ɛ.

Let be the modular curve associated to a congruence subgroup Γ of level N with , and let be its canonical model over . The main aim of this paper is to show that the endomorphism algebra of its Jacobian is generated by the Hecke operators T p , with , together with the “degeneracy operators” D M,d , D t M,d , for . This uses the fundamental results of Ribet on the structure of together with a basic result on the classification of the irreducible modules of the algebra generated by these operators. Let C be a genus 2 curve and the moduli space of semi-stable rank 2 vector bundles on C with trivial determinant. In Bolognesi (Adv Geom 7(1):113–144, 2007) we described the parameter space of non stable extension classes of the canonical sheaf ω of C by ω−1. In this paper, we study the classifying rational map that sends an extension class to the corresponding rank two vector bundle. Moreover, we prove that, if we blow up along a certain cubic surface S and at the point p corresponding to the bundle , then the induced morphism defines a conic bundle that degenerates on the blow up (at p) of the Kummer surface naturally contained in . Furthermore we construct the -bundle that contains the conic bundle and we discuss the stability and deformations of one of its components.  相似文献

It is classically known that a real cubic surface in cannot have more than one solitary point (or -singularity, locally given by x 2 + y 2 + z 2 = 0) whereas it can have up to four nodes (or -singularity, locally given by x 2 + y 2 − z 2 = 0). We show that on any surface of degree d ≥ 3 in the maximum possible number of solitary points is strictly smaller than the maximum possible number of nodes. Conversely, we adapt a construction of Chmutov to obtain surfaces with many solitary points by using a refined version of Brusotti’s Theorem. Combining lower and upper bounds, we deduce: , where denotes the maximum possible number of solitary points on a real surface of degree d in . Finally, we adapt this construction to get real algebraic surfaces in with many singular points of type for all k ≥ 1.   相似文献

We study the pure braid groups of the real projective plane , and in particular the possible splitting of the Fadell–Neuwirth short exact sequence , where n ≥ 2 and m ≥ 1, and p * is the homomorphism which corresponds geometrically to forgetting the last m strings. This problem is equivalent to that of the existence of a section for the associated fibration of configuration spaces. Van Buskirk proved (1966, Trans. Am. Math. Soc., 122:81–97) that p and p * admit a section if n = 2 and m = 1. Our main result in this paper is to prove that there is no section if n ≥ 3. As a corollary, it follows that n = 2 and m = 1 are the only values for which a section exists. As part of the proof, we derive a presentation of : this appears to be the first time that such a presentation has been given in the literature.   相似文献

A latin bitrade is a pair of partial latin squares that define the difference between two arbitrary latin squares and of the same order. A 3-homogeneous bitrade has three entries in each row, three entries in each column, and each symbol appears three times in . Cavenagh [2] showed that any 3-homogeneous bitrade may be partitioned into three transversals. In this paper we provide an independent proof of Cavenagh’s result using geometric methods. In doing so we provide a framework for studying bitrades as tessellations in spherical, euclidean or hyperbolic space. Additionally, we show how latin bitrades are related to finite representations of certain triangle groups.   相似文献

For a probability space we denote the marginal measures of , defined on Σ and Λ respectively, by and . If ρ is a function norm defined on marginal function norms ρ1 and ρ2 are defined on and . We find conditions which guarantee Lρ 1 + Lρ 2 to be embedded in Lρ as a closed subspace. The problem is encountered in Statistics when estimating a bivariate distribution with known marginals. We find a condition which, applied to the binormal distribution in L2, improves some known conditions.  相似文献

Let Γ be an arithmetic lattice in an absolutely simple Lie group G with trivial centre. We prove that there exists an integer N ≥ 2, a subgroup Λ of finite index in Γ, and an action of Λ on such that the pair ( ) has property (T). If G has property (T), then so does . If G is the adjoint group of Sp(n, 1), then is a property (T) group satisfying the Baum–Connes conjecture. If Γ is an arithmetic lattice in SO(n, 1), then the associated von Neumann algebra is a II1-factor in Popa’s class . Elaborating on this result of Popa, we construct a countable family of pairwise nonstably isomorphic group II1-factors in the class , all with trivial fundamental groups and with all L2-Betti numbers being zero.Mathematics Subject Classiffications (2000). 22E40, 22E47, 46L80, 37A20  相似文献

Let be the homogeneous tree with degree q + 1 ≥ 3 and a finitely generated group whose Cayley graph is . The associated lamplighter group is the wreath product , where is a finite group. For a large class of random walks on this group, we prove almost sure convergence to a natural geometric boundary. If the probability law governing the random walk has finite first moment, then the probability space formed by this geometric boundary together with the limit distribution of the random walk is proved to be maximal, that is, the Poisson boundary. We also prove that the Dirichlet problem at infinity is solvable for continuous functions on the active part of the boundary, if the lamplighter “operates at bounded range”. The classical prime geodesic theorem (PGT) gives an asymptotic formula (as x tends to infinity) for the number of closed geodesics with length at most x on a hyperbolic manifold M. Closed geodesics correspond to conjugacy classes of π1(M) = Γ where Γ is a lattice in G = SO(n,1). The theorem can be rephrased in the following format. Let be the space of representations of into Γ modulo conjugation by Γ. is defined similarly. Let be the projection map. The PGT provides a volume form vol on such that for sequences of subsets {B t }, satisfying certain explicit hypotheses, |π−1(B t )| is asymptotic to vol(B t ). We prove a statement having a similar format in which is replaced by a free group of finite rank under the additional hypothesis that n = 2 or 3.   相似文献

Let Γ be a group which is virtually free of rank at least 2 and let be the family of totally disconnected, locally compact groups containing Γ as a co-compact lattice. We prove that the values of the scale function with respect to groups in evaluated on the subset Γ have only finitely many prime divisors. This can be thought of as a uniform property of the family .   相似文献

Let be the limit set of G in the sense of Chen–Greenberg, and let be the limit set of the G-action on in the sense of Kulkarni. We prove that L(G) = Λ(G) ∩ S 3 and Λ(G) is the union of all complex projective lines in which are tangent to S 3 at a point in L(G).  相似文献

We show that every sub-weak embedding of any singular (degenerate or not) orthogonal or unitary polar space of non-singular rank at least 3 in a projective space PG , a commutative field, is the projection of a full embedding in some subspace PG of PG , where PG contains PG and is a subfield of . The same result is proved in the symplectic case under the assumption that the field over which the polarity is defined is perfect if the characteristic is 2 and if each secant line of the embedded polar space contains exactly two points of . This completes the classification of all sub-weak embeddings of orthogonal, symplectic and unitary polar spaces (singular or not; degenerate or not) of non-singular rank at least 3 and defined over a commutative field , where in the characteristic 2 case is perfect if the polar space is symplectic and the degree of the embedding is 2.  相似文献
