Continuing the research of part I conditions equivalent to ()- or ()-nuclearity of spaces of ultradifferential functions and their duals as well as some applications are given. To get these results it is shown that tensor products of smooth sequence spaces, power series spaces, and spaces S(M_q) introduced in part I are isomorphic to suitable sequence spaces of the same class, which are stable provided the factors are stable power series spaces. Hence it is possible to establish isomorphisms between different functions spaces, to calculate the nuclearity types of tensor products by the nuclearity types of the factors, and to prove that the class of ()- or ()-nuclear spaces is closed under forming tensor products iff is multiplicatively stable.

Chains and Trees: ‘Strong’–‘Weak’ Order in Job Scheduling

We present a summary of recent NP-hardness and polynomial time solvability results for the distinction between strong and weak precedence for chains and trees in scheduling. We distinguish between chains and proper trees which are not chains, and demonstrate that the strong-weak precedence distinction for chains is not inclusive with regards to NP-hardness, and conjecture that the same holds for strong-weak tree precedence. The objective is to show that different interpretations for chain and tree order relations in scheduling might have far reaching computational implications.

A chord-stretching map of a convex loop is an isometry

Let ⁿ be n-dimensional Euclidean space, and let : [0, L] ⁿ and : [0, L] ⁿ be closed rectifiable arcs in ⁿ of the same total length L which are parametrized via their arc length. is said to be a chord-stretched version of if for each 0s tL, |(t)–(s)| |(t)–(s)|. is said to be convex if is simple and if ([0, L]) is the frontier of some plane convex set. Individual work by Professors G. Choquet and G. T. Sallee demonstrated that if were simple then there existed a convex chord-stretched version of . This result led Professor Yang Lu to conjecture that if were convex and were a chord-stretched version of then and would be congruent, i.e. any chord-stretching map of a convex arc is an isometry. Professor Yang Lu has proved this conjecture in the case where and are C ² curves. In this paper we prove the conjecture in general.     

Formulating Measure Differential Inclusions in Infinite Dimensions

Measure differential inclusions were introduced by J. J. Moreau to study sweeping processes, and have since been used to study rigid body dynamics and impulsive control problems. The basic formulation of an MDI is d / d (t) K(t) where is a vector measure, an unsigned measure, and K() is a set-valued map with closed, convex values and is hemicontinuous. Note that need not be absolutely continuous with respect to . Stewart extended Moreau's original concept (which applied only to cone-valued K()) to general convex sets, and gave strong and weak formulations of d / d (t) K(t) where K(t) R ⁿ . Here the strong and weak formulations of Stewart are extended to infinite-dimensional problems where K(t) X where X is a separable reflexive Banach space; they are shown to be equivalent under mild assumptions on K().

In an -group M with an appropriate operator set it is shown that the -value set (M) can be embedded in the value set (M). This embedding is an isomorphism if and only if each convex -subgroup is an -subgroup. If (M) has a.c.c. and M is either representable or finitely valued, then the two value sets are identical.
