A new approach to fixed point theorems on G-metric spaces

In this paper, we introduce the metric d^G$d^G$ on a G  -metric space (X,G)$(X,G)$ and use this notion to show that many contraction conditions for maps on the G  -metric space (X,G)$(X,G)$ reduce to certain contraction conditions for maps on the metric space (X,d^G)$(X,d^G)$. As applications, the proofs of many fixed point theorems for maps on the G  -metric space (X,G)$(X,G)$ may be simplified, and many fixed point theorems for maps on the G  -metric space (X,G)$(X,G)$ are direct consequences of preceding results for maps on the metric space (X,d^G)$(X,d^G)$.     

A converse of Loewner–Heinz inequality and applications to operator means

Let f(t)$f(t)$ be an operator monotone function. Then A?B$A?B$ implies f(A)?f(B)$f(A)?f(B)$, but the converse implication is not true. Let A?B$A?B$ be the geometric mean of A,B?0$A,B?0$. If A?B$A?B$, then B⁻¹?A?I$B^{-1}?A?I$; the converse implication is not true either. We will show that if f(λB+I)⁻¹?f(λA+I)?I$f{(\lambda B+I)}^{-1}?f(\lambda A+I)?I$ for all sufficiently small λ>0$\lambda >0$, then f(λA+I)?f(λB+I)$f(\lambda A+I)?f(\lambda B+I)$ and A?B$A?B$. Moreover, we extend it to multi-variable matrices means.     

Kadec–Klee property and fixed points

Let X be a reflexive Banach space which does not have the Kadec–Klee property. Then there exists a compact mapping f   from the unit ball _BX$B_X$ of X   to the dual space X^?$X^{?}$ such that _infx∈BX‖f(x)‖>0${\inf }_{x\in B_X}\Vert f(x)\Vert >0$ and 〈f(x),x〉<‖f(x)‖$〈f(x),x〉<\Vert f(x)\Vert$ for every x∈_BX$x\in B_X$.     

On rigidity of Roe algebras

Roe algebras are C^?$C^{?}$-algebras built using large scale (or ‘coarse’) aspects of a metric space (X,d)$(X,d)$. In the special case that X=Γ$X=\Gamma$ is a finitely generated group and d   is a word metric, the simplest Roe algebra associated to (Γ,d)$(\Gamma ,d)$ is isomorphic to the crossed product C^?$C^{?}$-algebra l^∞(Γ)_?rΓ$l^{\infty }(\Gamma ){?}_r\Gamma$.     

An approximation method for strictly pseudocontractive mappings

Let K$K$ be a closed convex subset of a q$q$-uniformly smooth separable Banach space, T:K→K$T:K\to K$ a strictly pseudocontractive mapping, and f:K→K$f:K\to K$ an L$L$-Lispschitzian strongly pseudocontractive mapping. For any t∈(0,1)$t\in (0,1)$, let _xt$x_t$ be the unique fixed point of tf+(1-t)T$\mathit{tf}+(1-t)T$. We prove that if T$T$ has a fixed point, then {_xt}$\{x_t\}$ converges to a fixed point of T$T$ as t$t$ approaches to 0.     

Locally torsion-free quasi-coherent sheaves

Let X   be an arbitrary scheme. It is known that the category Qcoh(X)$\mathfrak{Qcoh}(X)$ of quasi-coherent sheaves admits arbitrary products. However its structure seems to be rather mysterious. In the present paper we will describe the structure of the product object of a family of locally torsion-free objects in Qcoh(X)$\mathfrak{Qcoh}(X)$, for X an integral scheme. Several applications are provided. For instance it is shown that the class of flat quasi-coherent sheaves on a Dedekind scheme X   is closed under arbitrary direct products, and that the class of all locally torsion-free quasi-coherent sheaves induces a hereditary torsion theory on Qcoh(X)$\mathfrak{Qcoh}(X)$. Finally torsion-free covers are shown to exist in Qcoh(X)$\mathfrak{Qcoh}(X)$.     

The reduced expressions in a Coxeter system with a strictly complete Coxeter graph

Let (W,S)$(W,S)$ be a Coxeter system with a strictly complete Coxeter graph. The present paper concerns the set Red(z)$\mathrm{Red}(z)$ of all reduced expressions for any z∈W$z\in W$. By associating each bc-expression to a certain symbol, we describe the set Red(z)$\mathrm{Red}(z)$ and compute its cardinal |Red(z)|$|\mathrm{Red}(z)|$ in terms of symbols. An explicit formula for |Red(z)|$|\mathrm{Red}(z)|$ is deduced, where the Fibonacci numbers play a crucial role.     

The spherical ergodic theorem revisited

In this paper, we give a new proof of a result of R. Jones showing almost everywhere convergence of spherical means of actions of R^d${\mathbb{R}}^d$ on L^p(X)$L^p(X)$-spaces are convergent for d?3$d?3$ and p>d/(d-1)$p>d/(d-1)$.
