Supramolecular porphyrin self-assemblies have been prepared from butadiyne-linked bis(imidazolylporphyrin) by complementary coordination of imidazole to zinc, and their two-photon absorption (2PA) and higher-order nonlinear absorption properties were investigated over femtosecond time scales using an open-aperture Z-scan method. The self-assembled porphyrin dimer of the conjugated monozinc bisporphyrin 7D was shown to have a large 2PA cross section (7.6 x 10(3) GM, where 1 GM = 10(-50) cm(4) s molecule(-1) photon(-1)) at 887 nm. By comparison of this result with that for a meso-meso-linked porphyrin array without the butadiyne connection (3.7 x 10(2) GM at 964 nm), it was demonstrated that the predominant factor in this significant enhancement of the cross section was the expansion of porphyrin-porphyrin pi-conjugation. Self-coordination and monozinc metalation were also found to be contributing factors. Furthermore, a novel self-assembled porphyrin polymer 8P consisting of a biszinc complex with a mean molecular weight of M(n) = 1.5 x 10(5) Da was shown to exhibit an extraordinarily large two-photon absorption cross section (4.4 x 10(5) GM at 873 nm). Nanosecond Z-scan experiments for 7D and 8P were also undertaken and resulted in the measurement of large effective 2PA cross sections, including the excited-state absorption (2.1 x 10(5) GM for 7D and 2.2 x 10(7) GM for 8P, respectively). Finally, three-photon absorption was observed by femtosecond Z-scan experiments at 1188 nm (7.1 x 10(-89) m(6) s(2)) and 1282 nm (1.8 x 10(-89) m(6) s(2)), an observation which is the first of its kind in porphyrin chemistry.  相似文献

We study two-photon absorption (2PA) in two series of new free-base porphyrins with 4-(diphenylamino)stilbene or 4,4'-bis-(diphenylamino)stilbene (BDPAS) attached via pi-conjugating linkers at the porphyrin meso-position. We show that this new substitution modality increases the 2PA cross section in the Soret band region (excitation wavelength 750-900 nm) of the core porphyrin by nearly 2 orders of magnitude, from sigma(2) approximately 10 GM for the meso-phenyl-substituted analogue to sigma(2) approximately 10(3) GM for the ethynyl-linked BDPAS-porphyrin dyad. The 2PA properties are quantitatively described by considering two different and interfering 2PA quantum transition pathways. The first path involves virtual transition via intermediate one-photon resonance. The second path bypasses the intermediate resonance and occurs due to a large permanent dipole moment difference between the ground and the final electronic states. To our best knowledge, this is the first experimental observation of the combined effect of these two pathways on one particular two-photon transition, resulting in quantum-interference-modulated 2PA strength.  相似文献

Two-photon absorption (2PA) properties of self-assembled porphyrins were investigated. The butadiyne-linked porphyrin array exhibited a 20 times larger 2PA cross section than the meso-meso-linked self-assembled array due to the expansion of pi-conjugation. Higher-order nonlinear absorption was also observed in the former porphyrin.  相似文献

We have applied correlated quantum-chemical methods to investigate the three-photon absorption (3PA) response of a porphyrin triad derivative, where the central macrocycle is linked in mesopositions to two anthracene units via acetylenic bridges. The 3PA frequency-dependent spectrum of this derivative is dominated by a single resonance feature in the transparent region, associated with charge-transfer states between porphyrin and anthracene. The calculations indicate a two order of magnitude enhancement in the 3PA cross section in the triad molecule with respect to the individual entities, which is attributed to close one-, two-, and three-photon resonances together with strong electronic couplings among the units.  相似文献

Here, we present a novel butadiyne-linked HBC-ethynyl-porphyrin dimer, which exhibits in the ground state strong absorption cross sections throughout the UV and visible ranges of the solar spectrum. In short, a unidirectional flow of excited state energy from the HBC termini to the (metallo)porphyrin focal points enables concentrating light at the latter. Control over excitonic interactions within, for example, the electron-donating porphyrin dimers was realized by complexation of bidentate ligands to set up panchromatic absorption that extends all the way into the near-infrared range. The bidentate binding motif was then exploited to create a supramolecular electron donor–acceptor assembly based on a HBC-ethynyl-porphyrin dimer and an electron accepting bis(aminoalkyl)-substituted fullerene. Of great relevance is the fact that charge separation from the photoexcited HBC-ethynyl-porphyrin dimer to the bis(aminoalkyl)-substituted fullerene is activated not only upon photoexciting the HBCs in the UV as well as the (metallo)porphyrins in the visible but also in the NIR. Implicit is the synergetic interplay of energy and charge transfer in a photosynthetic mimicking manner. The dimer and bis-HBC-ethynyl-porphyrin monomers, which serve as references, were probed by means of steady-state as well as time-resolved optical spectroscopies, including global target analyses of the time-resolved transient absorption data.

Two-photon absorption spectra (2PA) of a series of conjugated dimers and the corresponding monomer were studied in the near-IR region. All of the dimers show very large peak cross section values, sigma(2) = (3-10) x 10(3) GM (1 GM = 1 x 10(-50) cm(4) s photon(-1)), which is several hundred times larger than that obtained for the corresponding monomer in the same region. We explain such dramatic cooperative enhancement by a combination of several factors, such as strong enhancement of the lowest one-photon Q-transition, better resonance conditions in the three-level system, dramatic enhancement of the excited-state singlet-singlet transition, and parallel arrangement of consecutive transitions in dimers, as compared to perpendicular arrangement in the monomer. We show that the absolute values of the 2PA cross section in these molecules are quantitatively described by a quantum-mechanical expression, derived for the three-level model. We also demonstrate the possibility of singlet oxygen generation upon one- and two-photon excitation of these dimers, which makes them particularly attractive for photodynamic therapy.  相似文献

A series of octupolar fluorophores built from a triphenylamine (TPA) core connected to electron‐withdrawing (EW) peripheral groups through conjugated spacers has been synthesized. Their photoluminescence, solvatochromism, and two‐photon absorption (2PA) properties were systematically investigated to derive structure–property relationships. All derivatives exhibit two 2PA bands in the 700–1000 nm region: a first band at low energy correlated with a core‐to‐periphery intramolecular charge transfer that leads to an intense 1PA in the blue‐visible range, and a second more intense band at higher energy due to an efficient coupling of the branches through the TPA core. Increasing the strength of the EW end groups or the length of the conjugated spacers and replacing triple‐bond linkers with double bonds induces both enhancement and broadening of the 2PA responses, thereby leading to cross‐sections up to 2100 GM at peak and higher than 1000 GM over the whole 700–900 nm range. All derivatives exhibit intense photoluminescence (PL) in low‐ to medium‐polarity environments (with quantum yields in the 0.5–0.9 range) and display a strong positive solvatochromic behavior (with Lippert–Mataga specific shifts ranging from 15 000 to 27 500 cm?1), triple bonds, and phenyl moieties in the conjugated spacers, thereby leading to larger sensitivities than those of double bonds and thienyl moieties. More hydrophilic derivatives were also shown to be biocompatible, to retain their 2PA and PL properties in biological conditions, and finally to be suitable as polarity sensors for multiphoton cell imaging.  相似文献

Supramolecular structures based on organized assemblies of macrocyclic chromophores, particularly porphyrin-based dyes, have attracted widespread interest as components of molecular devices with potential applications in molecular electronics, artificial light harvesting, and pharmacology. We report the formation of J-aggregates of two porphyrin-based dyes, 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin (TSPP, 4) and an amino tris-sulfonate analogue (5) in water using a functionalized norbornene-based homopolymer, synthesized by ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP). Ionic interactions of the cationic side chains (ammonium groups) of the polymer under acidic conditions with the negatively charged sulfonate groups of the porphyrins facilitated polymer template enhanced J-aggregation of the porphyrin dyes. J-Aggregation behavior was investigated photophysically by UV-vis absorption along with steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence studies. Two-photon absorption (2PA) was enhanced by about an order of magnitude for the J-aggregated TSPP relative to its free base. Significantly, the 2PA cross section of the polymer-templated TSPP J-aggregate was up to three times higher than the J-aggregated TSPP in the absence of the polymer template while the 2PA cross section for polymer-templated J-aggregates of 5 increased substantially, up to ca. 10,000 GM, suggesting a prominent role of polymer-templating to facilitate porphyrin aggregation and greatly enhance nonlinear absorption.  相似文献

Novel alkene and alkyne branched structures have been synthesized, and their two-photon absorption (2PA) properties are reported. This series of alkene and alkyne trimer systems tests the mechanistic approach for enhancing the 2PA process which is usually dictated by the pi-bridging, delocalization length, and corresponding charge transfer on the 2PA cross sections. The results suggest that alkene branched systems have higher 2PA cross sections. While steady-state absorption and emission measurements were not successful in predicting the observed trend of 2PA cross sections, time-resolved measurements have explained the trends observed. It was found that, upon photoexcitation, there is an ultrafast charge localization to an intramolecular charge-transfer (ICT) state, followed by the presence of a solvent and conformationally relaxed ICT state in these branched systems.  相似文献

Two new multibranched thiophene-based triarylamine derivatives with 1,3,5-triazine core are synthesized and characterized. Their one-and two-photon absorption properties and aggregation-induced emission effect have been investigated. Both the STAPA-based compounds are AIE active. The two-photon absorption (2PA) cross sections measured by the open aperture Z-scan technique are determined to be 620 and 1610 GM for STAPA-a and STAPA-b in chloroform, respectively, which dramatically increase with the introduction of alkyl chains. The relationship between their structures and properties on one-and two-photon absorption and aggregation-induced emission is discussed, which allows us to examine the effect of introducing alkyl chains. In addition, solvent effects also show a significant influence on the 2PA cross section. The two compounds with excellent AIE and 2PA properties provide attractive alternatives for the biophotonic materials.  相似文献

We present the two-photon absorption (2PA) spectra of a series of conjugated porphyrin oligomers containing N = 2, 4, 8, and ca. 13 monomer units, meso-meso connected with butadiyne linkers. We demonstrate that, in the coplanar double-strand arrays, self-assembled upon addition of 4,4'-bipyridyl, the conjugation length increases dramatically, leading to very strong cooperative enhancement of 2PA. We analyze the scaling of 2PA in both the double-strand and rotationally free single-strand arrays and show how the effective conjugation length in both cases is linked to the observed 2PA properties. By introducing a "conjugation signature" for the 2PA strength, we show that, in double-strand arrangement, the conjugation embraces the whole molecule up to the tetramer level, whereas in single-strand arrangement, it is always less than N, except for N = 2, but keeps increasing until N = 8. Our finding of extremely strong 2PA cross section, sigma2 approximately 105 GM, in double-strand oligomers peaking at 1.3 mum can find use for signal processing in fiber-optic devices.  相似文献

The degenerate and nondegenerate two-photon absorption (2PA) spectra for a symmetric and an asymmetric fluorene derivative were experimentally measured in order to determine the effect of intermediate state resonance enhancement (ISRE) on the 2PA cross section delta. The ability to tune the individual photon energies in the nondegenerate 2PA (ND-2PA) process afforded a quantitative study of the ISRE without modifying the chemical structure of the investigated chromophores. Both molecules exhibited resonant enhancement of the nonlinearity with the asymmetric compound showing as much as a twentyfold increase in delta. Furthermore, the possibility of achieving over a one order of magnitude enhancement of the nonlinearity reveals the potential benefits of utilizing ND-2PA for certain applications. To model ISRE, we have used correlated quantum-chemical methods together with the perturbative sum-over-states (SOS) expression. We find strong qualitative and quantitative correlation between the experimental and theoretical results. Finally, using a simplified three-level model for the SOS expression, we provide intuitive insight into the process of ISRE for ND-2PA.  相似文献

Fusion of two N‐annulated perylene (NP) units with a fused porphyrin dimer along the S0–S1 electronic transition moment axis has resulted in new near‐infrared (NIR) dyes 1 a / 1 b with very intense absorption (ε>1.3×105 M ?1 cm?1) beyond 1250 nm. Both compounds displayed moderate NIR fluorescence with fluorescence quantum yields of 4.4×10?6 and 6.0×10?6 for 1 a and 1 b , respectively. The NP‐substituted porphyrin dimers 2 a / 2 b have also been obtained by controlled oxidative coupling and cyclodehydrogenation, and they showed superimposed absorptions of the fused porphyrin dimer and the NP chromophore. The excited‐state dynamics of all of these compounds have been studied by femtosecond transient absorption measurements, which revealed porphyrin dimer‐like behaviour. These new chromophores also exhibited good nonlinear optical susceptibility with large two‐photon absorption cross‐sections in the NIR region due to extended π‐conjugation. Time‐dependent density functional theory calculations have been performed to aid our understanding of their electronic structures and absorption spectra.  相似文献

Abstract

An extensive series of pyrazabole chromophores containing pseudo-conjugated systems have been theoretically constructed and investigated on the one-photon absorption (OPA) and two-photon absorption (TPA) properties by using density functional theory and Zerner’s intermediate neglect of differential overlap methods. The results indicated that all the pyrazabole chromophores show strong OPA at around 400 nm and intense TPA properties in the range of 500–600 nm with TPA cross sections (δ max) as large as 540–3,560 GM, which are excellent candidates for optical power limiting materials. It is noteworthy that the δ max values of the two constructed pyrazaboles, PA3 and PAF2, are 308.8 GM at 772.0 nm and 157.8 GM at 834.4 nm, respectively, which may be particularly attractive as probes for two-photon fluorescence imaging. The influence of incorporating electron acceptors in the central core, π-conjugated bridge and terminal groups on OPA and TPA properties was analyzed in detail to derive structure–property relationships and to lay the guidelines for both spectral tuning and amplification of molecular TPA in the target region. Meanwhile, the solvent effects on these properties were taken into account within the PCM model. The solvent has a significant impact on the TPA properties for chromophore PA3 and leads to the two-photon absorption spectra (λ max T ) red-shift and δ max enhancing relative to those in gas phase. In addition, from the calculations of molecule AlA2, we can draw the conclusion that the compounds with the Al2N4 center behave similarly to pyrazabole chromophores in the linear optical and TPA properties and increase TPA cross sections to some extent.  相似文献

Based on the fact that anthracene (Anth) possesses much higher similarity in electron-releasing ability to porphyrin nucleus than the other polyacenes, the dimeric octaethylporphyrin (OEP) derivatives 4 and 5 (OEP–Anth–OEP) were synthesized and their structure–property relationships were examined, as compared with related OEP dimers 13. Among them, the derivative 4 showed enormously high electronic communication between two terminal OEP rings, potentially providing a suitable unit of the electronic structure for molecular design of the OEP devices operating with less energy and with higher sensitivity to outside stimuli.  相似文献

We present a quantum-chemical analysis of the central metal ion's effect on first hyperpolarizabilities and two-photon absorption (TPA) cross sections at the infrared region of a series of push-pull porphyrins whose synthesis and NLO properties have been reported earlier (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2005, 127, 9710). The molecular geometries are obtained via the B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) level optimization including SCRF/PCM approach, and the NLO and TPA properties are calculated with the ZINDO/CV method including solvent effects. It is found that the CT transition between the metal ion's d orbital and the macrocycle pi orbitals plays an important role on NLO and TPA properties of metal porphyrins. Our data suggest a new approach to enhance TPA properties of porphyrin materials. We also present a quantum-chemical analysis on porphyrin dimers and trimers to understand the relationship between structural and collective NLO properties. It has been observed that beta values can be improved about an order of magnitude and TPA properties can be enhanced by 2 orders of magnitude by the formation of a trimer. The importance of our results with respect to the design of photonic and photodynamic therapy materials have been discussed.  相似文献

Lipophilic fluorophores are widely implemented in nonlinear microscopy; however, few existing membrane-specific probes combine the high brightness of two-photon excited fluorescence (2PEF) with pH sensitivity. Herein we describe four novel two-photon excited fluorophores, based on a coumarin 151 core structure, where lipophilicity is induced by a covalently attached phosphazene moiety. Changing the environmental acidity using trifluoromethanesulfonic (triflic) acid leads to profound changes in the linear fluorescence and 2PEF characteristics, due to chromophores’ switching between neutral- and protonated forms. We characterize this dependence by measuring the two-photon absorption (2PA) spectra over the region λ2PA=550–1000 nm, observing 2PA cross sections of σ2PA=10–20 GM, with an associated 2PEF brightness of 10–13 GM, in neutral solutions of both acetonitrile and n-octanol. Although quantum chemical modelling and NMR measurements show that, at high chromophore concentrations, protonation may be accompanied by a dimerization process, these dimers likely do not form at the lower concentrations used in optical spectroscopy.  相似文献

Three novel nonlinear chromophores with symmetric D-π-D molecular structure and extended conjugated length were synthesized. Solvatochromism analysis shows great symmetric intramolecular charge transfer occurring in chromophores by the enhancement in the dipole moment between the ground and excited states. The properties of optical power limiting induced by three-photon absorption (3PA) are demonstrated. Large 3PA coefficients and the corresponding molecular cross sections as high as 10-74 cm6s2 were obtained for nanosecond laser pulses at 1.06 μm from nonlinear transmission measurements.  相似文献

The dependence of the optical properties of [C(12)H(12)N(4)O(2)AgPF(6)](2) (dimer-1) and [C(28)H(28)N(6)O(3)AgPF(6)](2) (dimer-2) on the arrangement of the oxime moieties in the molecule and in bulk crystals was investigated by means of time-dependent density functional theory. Dimer-1 with simple pyridine oxime ligands and a wavy arrangement has a smaller dipole moment and larger transition energy between the two states, and thus smaller third-order polarizabilities and two-photon absorption cross sections. Dimer-2 with extended pyridine oxime ligands and a ladder arrangement has a larger dipole moment and smaller transition energy between the two states, and thus larger third-order polarizabilities and two-photon absorption cross sections. The lowest energy absorption band is red-shifted for dimer-2 as compared with dimer-1, due to more pronounced pi-pi delocalization interactions and weaker hydrogen bonding in dimer-2. The electronic absorption spectra, frequency-dependent third-order polarizabilities, and two-photon absorption cross sections involve significant contributions from charge transfers from pi/pi* orbitals of the pyridine oxime ligands but no contribution from PF(6) (-) ions or H(2)O molecules in the wavelength range studied for the monomers and dimers of the C(12)H(12)N(4)O(2)AgPF(6) and C(28)H(28)N(6)O(3)AgPF(6) molecules. The third-order susceptibilities and two-photon absorption coefficients of bulk solids were estimated on the basis of the optical properties of the corresponding dimers, and the bulk material constructed from dimer-2 has the larger optical parameters of the two.  相似文献
