In this paper, the noncentral matrix quadratic forms of the skew elliptical variables are studied. A family of the matrix variate noncentral generalized Dirichlet distributions is introduced as the extension of the noncentral Wishart distributions, the Dirichlet distributions and the noncentral generalized Dirichlet distributions. Main distributional properties are investigated. These include probability density and closure property under linear transformation and marginalization, the joint distribution of the sub-matrices of the matrix quadratic forms in the skew elliptical variables and the moment generating functions and Bartlett's decomposition of the matrix quadratic forms in the skew normal variables. Two versions of the noncentral Cochran's Theorem for the matrix variate skew normal distributions are obtained, providing sufficient and necessary conditions for the quadratic forms in the skew normal variables to have the matrix variate noncentral generalized Dirichlet distributions. Applications include the properties of the least squares estimation in multivariate linear model and the robustness property of the Wilk's likelihood ratio statistic in the family of the matrix variate skew elliptical distributions.  相似文献

In this paper, we determine the symmetrised density of doubly noncentral singular matrix variate beta type I and II distributions under different definitions. As particular cases we obtain the noncentral singular matrix variate beta type I and II distributions and the corresponding joint density of the nonnull eigenvalues. In addition, we propose an alternative approach to find the corresponding nonsymmetrised densities. From the latter, we solve the integral proposed by Constantine [Noncentral distribution problems in multivariate analysis, Ann. Math. Statist. 34 (1963) 1270-1285] and Khatri [A note on Mitra's paper “A density free approach to the matrix variate beta distribution”, Sankhyā A 32 (1970) 311-318] and reconsidered in Farrell [Multivariate Calculation: Use of the Continuous Groups, Springer Series in Statistics, Springer, New York, 1985, p. 191], see also Díaz-García and Gutiérrez-Jáimez [Noncentral matrix variate beta distribution, Comunicación Técnica, No. I-06-06 (PE/CIMAT), Guanajuato, México, 2006, 〈http://www.cimat.mx/biblioteca/RepTec/index.html?m=2〉], for the singular and nonsingular cases.  相似文献

Noncentral elliptical configuration density   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The noncentral configuration density, derived under an elliptical model, generalizes and corrects the Gaussian configuration and some Pearson results. Partition theory is then used to obtain explicit configuration densities associated with matrix variate symmetric Kotz type distributions (including the normal distribution), matrix variate Pearson type VII distributions (including t and Cauchy distributions), the matrix variate symmetric Bessel distribution (including the Laplace distribution) and the matrix variate symmetric Jensen-logistic distribution.  相似文献

In this article, we derive several properties such as marginal distribution, moments involving zonal polynomials, and asymptotic expansion of the complex bimatrix variate beta type 1 distribution introduced by D?´az-Garc?´a and Gutiérrez Jáimez [José A. D?´az-Garc?´a, Ramón Gutiérrez Jáimez, Complex bimatrix variate generalised beta distributions, Linear Algebra Appl. 432 (2010) 571-582]. We also derive distributions of several matrix valued functions of random matrices jointly distributed as complex bimatrix variate beta type 1.  相似文献

In multivariate statistics under normality, the problems of interest are random covariance matrices (known as Wishart matrices) and “ratios” of Wishart matrices that arise in multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) (see 24). The bimatrix variate beta type IV distribution (also known in the literature as bimatrix variate generalised beta; matrix variate generalization of a bivariate beta type I) arises from “ratios” of Wishart matrices. In this paper, we add a further independent Wishart random variate to the “denominator” of one of the ratios; this results in deriving the exact expression for the density function of the bimatrix variate extended beta type IV distribution. The latter leads to the proposal of the bimatrix variate extended F distribution. Some interesting characteristics of these newly introduced bimatrix distributions are explored. Lastly, we focus on the bivariate extended beta type IV distribution (that is an extension of bivariate Jones’ beta) with emphasis on P(X1<X2) where X1 is the random stress variate and X2 is the random strength variate.  相似文献

In this paper the distribution of the likelihood ratio test for testing the reality of the covariance matrix of a complex multivariate normal distribution is investigated. Some simplifications in the noncentral distribution are made and the noncentral distribution is derived for the special case where the rank of the noncentrality matrix is two. In the null case exact expressions for the distribution are given up to p = 6, and percentage points are tabulated. These percentage points were compared with percentage points derived from an asymptotic expansion of the distribution, and the accuracy of the approximation was found to be sufficient for several practical situations.  相似文献

Assuming that Y has a singular matrix variate elliptically contoured distribution with respect to the Hausdorff measure, the distributions of several matrices associated to QR, modified QR, SV and polar decompositions of matrix Y are determined, for central and non-central, non-singular and singular cases, as well as their relationship to the Wishart and pseudo-Wishart generalized singular and non-singular distributions. Some of these results are also applied to two particular subfamilies of elliptical distributions, the singular matrix variate normal distribution and the singular matrix variate symmetric Pearson type VII distribution.  相似文献

We consider the problem of estimating the eigenvalues of noncentrality parameter matrix in a matrix variate noncentral beta distribution, also known as multivariate noncentral F distribution. A decision theoretic approach is taken with square error as the loss function. We propose two types of new estimators and show their superior performance theoretically as well as numerically.  相似文献

The normal distribution based likelihood ratio (LR) statistic is widely used in structural equation modeling. Under a sequence of local alternative hypotheses, this statistic has been shown to asymptotically follow a noncentral chi-square distribution. In practice, the population mean vector and covariance matrix as well as the model and sample size are always fixed. It is hard to justify the validity of the noncentral chi-square distribution for the resulting LR statistic even when data are normally distributed and sample size is large. By extending results in the literature, this paper develops normal distributions to describe the behavior of the LR statistic for mean and covariance structure analysis. A sequence of local alternative hypotheses is not necessary for the proposed distributions to be asymptotically valid. When the effect size is medium and above or when the model is not trivially misspecified, empirical results indicate that a refined normal distribution describes the behavior of the LR statistic better than the commonly used noncentral chi-square distribution, as measured by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov distance. Quantile-quantile plots are also provided to better understand the different distributions.  相似文献

Several matrix variate hypergeometric type distributions are derived. The compound distributions of left-spherical matrix variate elliptical distributions and inverted hypergeometric type distributions with matrix arguments are then proposed. The scale mixture of left-spherical matrix variate elliptical distributions and univariate inverted hypergeometric type distributions is also derived as a particular case of the compound distribution approach.  相似文献

In this paper, the study of bivariate generalised beta types I and II distributions is extended to the complex matrix variate case, for which the corresponding density functions are found. In addition, for complex bimatrix variate beta type I distributions, several basic properties, including the joint eigenvalue density and the maximum eigenvalue distribution, are studied.  相似文献

We consider the problem of estimating the eigenvalues of noncentrality parameter matrix in noncentral Wishart distribution when the scale parameter is known. A decision theoretic approach is taken with squared error as the loss function. We propose two new estimators and show their superior performance to an usual estimator theoretically and numerically.  相似文献

Let Y be an n×p multivariate normal random matrix with general covariance ΣY and W be a symmetric matrix. In the present article, the property that a matrix quadratic form YWY is distributed as a difference of two independent (noncentral) Wishart random matrices is called the (noncentral) generalized Laplacianness (GL). Then a set of algebraic results are obtained which will give the necessary and sufficient conditions for the (noncentral) GL of a matrix quadratic form. Further, two extensions of Cochran’s theorem concerning the (noncentral) GL and independence of a family of matrix quadratic forms are developed.  相似文献

It has been frequently observed in the literature that many multivariate statistical methods require the covariance or dispersion matrix Σ of an elliptical distribution only up to some scaling constant. If the topic of interest is not the scale but only the shape of the elliptical distribution, it is not meaningful to focus on the asymptotic distribution of an estimator for Σ or another matrix ΓΣ. In the present work, robust estimators for the shape matrix and the associated scale are investigated. Explicit expressions for their joint asymptotic distributions are derived. It turns out that if the joint asymptotic distribution is normal, the estimators presented are asymptotically independent for one and only one specific choice of the scale function. If it is non-normal (this holds for example if the estimators for the shape matrix and scale are based on the minimum volume ellipsoid estimator) only the scale function presented leads to asymptotically uncorrelated estimators. This is a generalization of a result obtained by Paindaveine [D. Paindaveine, A canonical definition of shape, Statistics and Probability Letters 78 (2008) 2240-2247] in the context of local asymptotic normality theory.  相似文献

For a class of multivariate skew normal distributions, the noncentral skew chi-square distribution is studied. The necessary and sufficient conditions under which a sequence of quadratic forms is generalized noncentral skew chi-square distributed random variables are obtained. Several examples are given to illustrate the results.  相似文献

A random balanced sample (RBS) is a multivariate distribution with n components Xk, each uniformly distributed on [-1,1], such that the sum of these components is precisely 0. The corresponding vectors lie in an (n-1)-dimensional polytope M(n). We present new methods for the construction of such RBS via densities over M(n) and these apply for arbitrary n. While simple densities had been known previously for small values of n (namely 2,3, and 4), for larger n the known distributions with large support were fractal distributions (with fractal dimension asymptotic to n as n→∞). Applications of RBS distributions include sampling with antithetic coupling to reduce variance, and the isolation of nonlinearities. We also show that the previously known densities (for n?4) are in fact the only solutions in a natural and very large class of potential RBS densities. This finding clarifies the need for new methods, such as those presented here.  相似文献

In this paper we show how, based on a decomposition of the likelihood ratio test for sphericity into two independent tests and a suitably developed decomposition of the characteristic function of the logarithm of the likelihood ratio test statistic to test independence in a set of variates, we may obtain extremely well-fitting near-exact distributions for both test statistics. Since both test statistics have the distribution of the product of independent Beta random variables, it is possible to obtain near-exact distributions for both statistics in the form of Generalized Near-Integer Gamma distributions or mixtures of these distributions. For the independence test statistic, numerical studies and comparisons with asymptotic distributions proposed by other authors show the extremely high accuracy of the near-exact distributions developed as approximations to the exact distribution. Concerning the sphericity test statistic, comparisons with formerly developed near-exact distributions show the advantages of these new near-exact distributions.  相似文献

This paper explains the differences between the densities and the Jacobians of the transforms of the same singular random matrices treated by several authors. Some comments on the results proposed by Srivastava [Singular Wishart and multivariate beta distributions, Ann. Statist. 31 (2003) 1537-1560] are presented. Definitions about a measure with respect to which a singular random matrix possesses a density are proposed. Finally two Jacobians of certain transforms under any of those measures are found.  相似文献

The main objective of this paper is the calculation and the comparative study of two general measures of multivariate kurtosis, namely Mardia's measure β2,p and Song's measure S(f). In this context, general formulas for the said measures are derived for the broad family of the elliptically contoured symmetric distributions and also for specific members of this family, like the multivariate t-distribution, the multivariate Pearson type II, the multivariate Pearson type VII, the multivariate symmetric Kotz type distribution and the uniform distribution in the unit sphere. Analytic expressions for computing Shannon and Rényi entropies are obtained under the elliptic family. The behaviour of Mardia's and Song's measures, their similarities and differences, possible interpretations and uses in practice are investigated by comparing them in specific members of the elliptic family of multivariate distributions. An empirical estimator of Song's measure is moreover proposed and its asymptotic distribution is investigated under the elliptic family of multivariate distributions.  相似文献
