Organic distributed feedback (DFB) lasers can be useful photonic tools for biological applications where the roles of organic materials are important, because highly coherent single mode emission with broad tuning range can be obtained. However, the formulaic structures of organic lasers, and the uses of gain media as resonators themselves, are not suitable for inducing laser emission from irregular shaped gain media, such as dye‐staining cells and tissues. Here, we report a reusable photonic template comprising an exceedingly thin and discrete titanium dioxide (TiO2) layer on a one‐dimensional (1D) quartz grating to induce single mode DFB lasing from a variety of states of optical gain media. Using the same template, the external gain media of optically thick and thin casted film, liquid, and a free‐standing thick film reveal single mode lasing with reliable performance. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the 25‐nm thick TiO2 disconnected grating lines support a spatially confined DFB mode in the vertical direction, even under no index difference between superstrate and substrate. Additionally, not using the typical waveguide gain layer promises high sensitivity and detection limit in refractometric sensing. These results suggest that the photonic structure may serve as a versatile sensing platform for bioapplications. 相似文献

Schemes integrating inter-carrier interference (ICI) self-cancellation and common phase error (CPE) com- pensation for coherent optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (CO-OFDM) systems are investi- gated. The purpose of our research is to counteract the impacts of laser phase noise and fiber nonlinearity. We propose two ICI self-cancellation-based CO-OFDM schemes, and adopt a pilot-aided decision feedback (DFB) loop for CPE compensation. The proposed schemes are compared with conventional CO-OFDM schemes at the same spectral efficiency. Simulations show that our schemes can not only enhance laser linewidth tolerance of the CO-OFDM system, but also present strong robustness against fiber nonlinearity. 相似文献

A distributed feedback (DFB) laser module has been developed for 2.5 Gbs-1 optical transmission systems. The DFB laser has a multiple-quantum-well (MQW) active layer and a planar buried heterostructure (PBH) for a low threshold current and stable singlemode operation with low chirping. A PBH DFB laser module with a single-mode fibre pigtail and an optical isolator was designed and fabricated by employing a single lens and a laser welding method. The fabricated MQW PBH DFB laser module is shown to be a suitable light source for 2.5 Gb s-1 optical transmission systems with a minimum received power of-33 dBm after 47 km conventional optical fibre transmission. 相似文献

A dual mode multi-section gain-coupled distributed feedback laser with tunable mode spacing is subharmonically injection locked at 0.315 THz. The injected signal consists of an optical comb with harmonics 35 GHz apart and a bandwidth of approximately 1.9 THz. The optical comb is a result of strong four-wave mixing in a highly-nonlinear dispersion-shifted fiber. In order to observe locking of the multi-section laser, the output is optically downconverted to RF frequencies using the same optical comb. The locked multi-section DFB laser is a coherent and tunable optical source suitable for continuous-wave terahertz generation systems. 相似文献

为探究Bragg光栅结构对TM模反馈特性的影响,利用有限时域差分法对具有TM模的分布反馈(DFB)量子级联激光器Bragg光栅结构进行仿真研究。重点分析了侧向耦合光栅的光学特性以及光栅侧壁倾角对光栅反射谱、损耗的影响及原因,并探究了光栅刻蚀深度及占空比与TM模的耦合系数、损耗的关系。结果表明有效折射率是影响Bragg波长的主要因素,而光限制因子是不同周期的侧向耦合光栅结构耦合系数产生巨大差别的原因,当光栅侧壁倾角90°时镜面损耗最小。光栅周期、占空比、刻蚀深度与耦合系数的关系表明:这些参数不仅影响光栅的相对介电常数,也会对光限制因子产生作用,从而影响耦合系数的大小;耦合系数与刻蚀深度具有正比关系,大周期光栅耦合系数随占空比的变化率较小。对光栅光反馈特性的理论研究有利于提升对DFB量子级联激光器的认识,促进激光器性能的提升和发展。 相似文献

This paper analyzes the self-mixing interference in DFB (distributed feedback) semiconductor lasers. The general expression of the threshold gain and frequency in the DFB lasers was deduced. Numerical simulations indicate that, for specific coupling coefficient and cavity length value, the DFB lasers are more sensitive to optical feedback than the Fabry–Perot semiconductor laser. We have experimentally demonstrated current-injection optical phase-lock loops (OPLLs) based on commercial single-section semiconductor distributed-feedback (DFB) lasers. Using two parallel OPLLs, we have obtained 87% efficient coherent power combining of the two DFB lasers. The rms differential phase error between the two lasers is about 30 degrees . 相似文献

We experimentally generate high dimension chaotic waveforms with smooth spectrum using a distributed feedback (DFB) semiconductor laser with unidirectional fibre ring long-cavity feedback, and implement the stable chaos synchronization when the chaotic light is injected into a solitary DFB laser diode. The synchronization quality is investigated by time-domain and frequency-domain analysis separately, The frequency-domain analysis indicates that the synchronization has higher quality in the high frequency band. The influences of the injection strength and the frequency detuning on the synchronization are measured. Our experimental results show that the robust synchronization can be maintained with the optical frequency detuning from -11GHz to 40 GHz. 相似文献

An analysis of optical injection on a gain-switched distributed feedback (DFB) laser and its impact on pulse parameters that influence the performance of the pulse source in high-speed optical communication systems is presented in this paper. A range of 10 GHz in detuning and 5 dB in injected power has been experimentally identified to attain pulses, from an optically injected gain-switched DFB laser, with durations below 10 ps and pedestal suppression higher than 35 dB. These pulse features are associated with a side mode suppression ratio of about 30 dB and a timing jitter of less than 1 ps. This demonstrates the feasibility of using optical injection in conjunction with appropriate pulse compression schemes for developing an optimized and cost-efficient pulse source, based on a gain-switched DFB laser, for high-speed photonic systems. 相似文献

We present a coherent ultra-dense wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (UDWDM-PON) with enhanced spectral efficiency. The benefit of using Gaussian or Nyquist pulse-shaping filters at the transmitter is evaluated through numerical simulations and experiments. The transmitters consist of directly phase modulated distributed feedback (DFB) lasers through beat signals whose duty-cycle and amplitude are digitally adjusted. The results show that transmitting a Nyquist-shaped signal achieves a 25% spectral saving allowing to place 2.5 Gb/s/user data in 6.25 GHz channels. Furthermore, the proposed transmitter tolerates differential link-losses of 15 dB at Rx sensitivity of ?44 dBm at BER=10?3 with intradyne detection. 相似文献

Nonlinear dynamics of free-electron masers (FEMs) is studied in the planar geometry with 2D distributed feedback (DFB). As is distinct from previous works, the field structure is not fixed with respect to the three spatial coordinates including the coordinate that is orthogonal to surfaces of the plates of the 2D Bragg resonator. Conditions on the allowed oversize parameter (ratio of the gap between the resonator plates to wavelength) under which the steady-state generation remains stable upon variation in electron-beam parameters are derived. It is demonstrated that, at a relatively large gap, variations in the mismatch lead to the jumps of oscillation frequency that correspond to the excitation of bunches of modes with different transverse indices of partial waves. The results of simulation using a particle-in-cell method are presented for a FEM prototype with 2D DFB that is created using an ELMI accelerator at the Institute of Nuclear Physics, Siberian Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences. The simulated results show that narrow-band spatially coherent radiation can be generated at experimental parameters of the electron beam and electrodynamic system. The advantages of 2D Bragg structures in comparison with conventional 1D structures are demonstrated for FEMs. 相似文献

One distributed feedback (DFB) laser diode with main and multiple side modes injection-locked is proposed and demonstrated. DFB laser diode can be successfully injection-locked not only in the main mode but also in the side modes. The side mode suppression ratio (SMSR) value of each injection-locked mode is enhanced, thereby, it can be a promising candidate for the use of multiple optical sources. We have experimentally investigated chaotic power oscillations in single-longitudinal mode DFB and multi-longitudinal mode FP lasers as a function of incoherent optical feedback strengths of up to 42%. We have demonstrated the existence of chaos in the output oscillations of both laser types using classical experimental tools such as RF spectrum, standard deviation, and maximum Lyapunov exponent, which all increase with increasing of feedback strength for both in single-longitudinal mode DFB lasers and multi-longitudinal mode FP lasers. It is also shown that power switching among longitudinal modes of multimode FP semiconductor laser is a considerable portion of the chaotic power oscillations for both strong and weak incoherent optical feedback. 相似文献

We propose a Polarization Shift Keying (POLSK) phase diversity homo-dyne system with multiplying detection in coherent optical communications. The proposed system uses only one of three Stokes parameters, which is the phase difference between two orthogonal polarizations. Although such systems using only one Stokes parameter are very sensitive to polarization fluctuation, the proposed system becomes insensitive to the linear polarization fluctuation by using the multiplying detection with a combination of in-phase and quadrature optical signal components on two orthogonal polarizations. Furthermore, insensitivity to phase noise and offset frequency and attractiveness due to homodyne type in high-speed transmissions are maintained. The most attractive feature of the proposed system is that neither a polarization controller nor electronic feedback loop for matching the state of polarization (SOP) between transmitted and local oscillator (LO) optical signals is needed. We theoretically analyze the receiver sensitivity and the power penalties of the proposed system for the cases of the elliptical SOP of received optical signals and the imbalance optical 90° hybrid. 相似文献

In this paper, the compression experiments of picosecond optical pulses from a gain-switched InGaAsP distributed feedback (DFB) laser at a 1.5 μm wavelength range using a Gires-Tournois (G-T) interferometer are reported. Ultrashort optical pulses with a pulsewidth of 6.6 ps, repetition rate of 2.4 GHz, and peak power in excess of 200 mW are obtained. The compression ratio is close to 5. The explanation for the experimental results is given, and the pulse's compression characteristics of a G-T inteferometer are discussed by a computer simulation analysis. 相似文献

A temperature-tunable polarization interference filter (PIF) made of YVO4 crystal has been presented and applied for wavelength locking of a distributed feedback (DFB) semiconductor laser in dense wavelength-division-multiplexing (DWDM) optical communication systems. This new design offers a flexible way to monitor and then lock an operating wavelength of DFB laser to any preselected point without dead spots. The results show that the laser wavelength can be locked with accuracy better than ±0.01 nm with much relaxed requirement on temperature stability of the filter. 相似文献
