We report a laboratory measurement of the rate coefficient for the collisional removal of O(2)(X(3)Sigma(g) (-),upsilon=1) by O((3)P) atoms. In the experiments, 266-nm laser light photodissociates ozone in a mixture of molecular oxygen and ozone. The photolysis step produces vibrationally excited O(2)(a(1)Delta(g)) that is rapidly converted to O(2)(X(3)Sigma(g) (-),upsilon=1-3) in a near-resonant electronic energy-transfer process with ground-state O(2). In parallel, a large amount of O((1)D) atoms is generated that promptly relaxes to O((3)P). Under the conditions of the experiments, only collisions with the photolytically produced O((3)P) atoms control the lifetime of O(2)(X(3)Sigma(g) (-),upsilon=1), because its removal by molecular oxygen at room temperature is extremely slow. Tunable 193-nm laser light monitors the temporal evolution of the O(2)(X(3)Sigma(g) (-),upsilon=1) population by detection of laser-induced fluorescence near 360 nm. The removal rate coefficient for O(2)(X(3)Sigma(g) (-),upsilon=1) by O((3)P) atoms is (3.2+/-1.0)x10(-12) cm(3) s(-1) (2sigma) at a temperature of 315+/-15 K (2sigma). This result is essential for the analysis and correct interpretation of the 6.3-mum H(2)O(nu(2)) band emission in the Earth's mesosphere and indicates that the deactivation of O(2)(X (3)Sigma(g) (-),upsilon=1) by O((3)P) atoms is significantly faster than the nominal values recently used in atmospheric models.  相似文献

Ab initio computational studies were carried out in order to explore the possible mechanisms of quenching of O(2)(a (1)Delta(g)) by O(2)(X (3)Sigma(g) (-)): the self-quenching of O(2)(a (1)Delta(g)) and other energy-transfer processes involving two O(2) molecules. All eighteen states arising from two O(2) molecules in the X (3)Sigma(g) (-), a (1)Delta(g), and b (1)Sigma(g) (+) states are considered. After scans at the state-averaged complete active space self-consistent field method to identify possible regions of crossing between states belonging to different asymptotes, complete active state second-order perturbation theory high-symmetry optimization and low-symmetry scans established that four different minima on the seams of crossing (MSXs), arising between the a+a manifold and the X+b manifold and responsible for self-quenching: O(2)(a (1)Delta(g))+O(2)(a (1)Delta(g))-->O(2)(X (3)Sigma(g) (-))+O(2)(b (1)Sigma(g) (+)), have coplanar C(2h) or C(2v) symmetries and are only 0.45 eV barrier relative to the a+a asymptote and energetically easily accessible. The rate constant for this process was estimated based on the Landau-Zener formalism. The MSXs for quenching of O(2)(a (1)Delta(g)) by the ground state O(2)(X (3)Sigma(g) (-)):O(2)(a (1)Delta(g))+O(2)(X (3)Sigma(g) (-))-->O(2)(X (3)Sigma(g) (-))+O(2)(X (3)Sigma(g) (-)) require higher energies and the process is not likely to be important.  相似文献

A wide range of vibrational levels of O2(X(3)Sigma(g)(-), v = 6-13) generated in the ultraviolet photolysis of O3 was selectively detected by the laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) technique. The time-resolved LIF-excited B(3)Sigma(u)(-)-X(3)Sigma(g)(-) system in the presence of CF4 has been recorded and analyzed by the integrated profiles method (IPM). The IPM permitted us to determine the rate coefficients k(v)(CF4) for vibrational relaxation of O2(X(3)Sigma(g)(-), v = 6-12) by collisions with CF4. Energy transfer from O2 (v = 6-12) to CF4 is surprisingly efficient compared to that of other polyatomic relaxation partners studied so far. The k(v)(CF4) increases with vibrational quantum number v from [1.5 +/- 0.2(2sigma)] x 10(-12) for v = 6 to [7.3 +/- 1.5(2sigma)] x 10(-11) for v = 12, indicating that the infrared-active nu3 vibrational mode of CF4 mainly governs the energy transfer with O2(X(3)Sigma(g)(-), v = 6-12). The correlation between the rate coefficients and fundamental infrared intensities has been discussed based on a comparison of the efficiency of energy transfer by several collision partners.  相似文献

The La + O and La + O 2 chemiionization reactions have been investigated with quantum chemical methods. For La + O 2(X (3)Sigma g) and La + O 2(a (1)Delta g), the chemiionization reaction La + O 2 --> LaO 2 (+) + e (-) has been shown to be endothermic and does not contribute to the experimental chemielectron spectra. For the La + O 2(X (3)Sigma g) reaction conditions, chemielectrons are produced by La + O 2 --> LaO + O, followed by La + O --> LaO (+) + e (-). This is supported by the same chemielectron band, arising from La + O --> LaO (+) + e (-), being observed from both the La + O( (3)P) and La + O 2(X (3)Sigma g) reaction conditions. For La + O 2(a (1)Delta g), a chemielectron band with higher electron kinetic energy than that obtained from La + O 2(X (3)Sigma g) is observed. This is attributed to production of O( (1)D) from the reaction La + O 2(a (1)Delta g) --> LaO + O( (1)D), followed by chemiionization via the reaction La + O( (1)D) --> LaO (+) + e (-). Potential energy curves are computed for a number of states of LaO, LaO* and LaO (+) to establish mechanisms for the observed La + O --> LaO (+) + e (-) chemiionization reactions.  相似文献

A large set of literature kinetic data on triplet (T(1)) sensitization of singlet oxygen by two series of biphenyl and naphthalene sensitizers in solvents of strongly different polarity has been analyzed. The rate constants and the efficiencies of singlet oxygen formation are quantitatively reproduced by a model that assumes the competition of a non-charge transfer (nCT) and a CT deactivation channel. nCT deactivation occurs from a fully established spin-statistical equilibrium of (1)(T(1)(3)Sigma) and (3)(T(1)(3)Sigma) encounter complexes by internal conversion (IC) to lower excited complexes that dissociate to yield O(2)((1)Sigma(g)(+)), O(2)((1)Delta(g)), and O(2)((3)Sigma(g)(-)). IC of (1,3)(T(1)(3)Sigma) encounter complexes is controlled by an energy gap law that is generally valid for the transfer of electronic energy to and from O(2). (1,3)(T(1)(3)Sigma) nCT complexes form in competition to IC (1)(T(1)(3)Sigma) and (3)(T(1)(3)Sigma) exciplexes if CT interactions between T(1) and O(2) are important. The rate constants of exciplex formation depend via a Marcus type parabolic model on the corresponding free energy change DeltaG(CT), which varies with sensitizer triplet energy, oxidation potential, and solvent polarity. O(2)((1)Sigma(g)(+)), O(2)((1)Delta(g)), and O(2)((3)Sigma(g)(-)) are formed in the product ratio (1/6):(1/12):(3/4) in the CT deactivation channel. The balance between nCT and CT deactivation is described by the relative contribution p(CT) of CT induced deactivation calculated for a sensitizer of known triplet energy from its quenching rate constant. It is shown how the change of p(CT) influences the quenching rate constant and the efficiency of singlet oxygen formation in both series of sensitizers. p(CT) is sensitive to differences of solvent polarity and varies for the biphenyls and the naphthalenes as sigmoidal with DeltaG(CT). This quantitative model represents a realistic and general mechanism for the quenching of pipi triplet states by O(2), surpassing previous advanced models.  相似文献

Vibrationally excited O(2)(X(3) Sigmag(-)) was generated in the UV laser flash photolysis of O(3) and single vibrational level was detected via laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) in the B(3) Sigmau(-)-X(3) Sigmag(-) system. The time-resolved LIF of adjacent vibrational levels has been analyzed by the integrated-profiles method and the rate coefficients for single-quantum relaxation, O(2)(X(3)Sigmag(-), v = 9-13)+ O(2)(v = 0)--> O(2)(X(3)Sigmag(-), v - 1)+ O(2)(v = 1), have been determined. To the best of our knowledge, the rate coefficients for v = 12 and 13 are measured for the first time in the present study. The efficiency of relaxation is higher at lower vibrational levels, indicating that a small energy mismatch is suitable for the energy transfer. The vibrational level dependence of all the rate coefficients for the relaxation measured in the present study and previously reported by several groups can be rationalized by the energy gap law.  相似文献

The photodissociation of N(2)O at wavelengths near 130 nm has been investigated by velocity-mapped product imaging. In all, five dissociation channels have been detected, leading to the following products: O((1)S)+N(2)(X (1)Sigma), N((2)D)+NO(X (2)Pi), N((2)P)+NO(X (2)Pi), O((3)P) + N(2)(A (3)Sigma(+) (u)), and O((3)P) + N(2)(B (3)Pi(g)). The most significant channel is to the products O((1)S) + N(2)(X(1)Sigma), with strong vibrational excitation in the N(2). The O((3)P) + N(2)(A,B):N((2)D,(2)P) + NO branching ratio is measured to be 1.4 +/- 0.5, while the N(2)(A) + O((3)P(J)):N(2)(B) + O((3)P(J)) branching ratio is determined to be 0.84+/-0.09. The spin-orbit distributions for the O((3)P(J)), N((2)P(J)), and N((2)D(J)) products were also determined. The angular distributions of the products are in qualitative agreement with excitation to the N(2)O(D (1)Sigma(+)) state, with participation as well by the (3)Pi(v) state.  相似文献

Collisions of the vibrationally excited OH(v = 1) molecule with atomic oxygen are investigated theoretically using a coupled-states, statistical capture (CS-ST) model. Vibrational relaxation can occur by inelastic scattering, and the vibrationally excited molecule can also be removed by reaction to form O(2) in both the ground (X (3)Sigma(g)(-)) and first excited (a (1)Delta(g)) state. In the former case, reaction occurs on the lowest potential energy surface of (2)A(") symmetry, and, in the latter case, by reaction on the lowest potential energy surface of (2)A(') symmetry. We report new ab initio potential energy surfaces for both these states in the product and reactant regions necessary for application of the coupled-states, statistical method. Comparison with exact, reactive scattering calculations within the J-shifting approximation indicate that the CS-ST rate constants for removal of OH(v = 1) can be expected to be reasonably accurate. Our calculated rate constants at 300 K agree well with the experimental results of Khachatrian and Dagdigian [Chem. Phys. Lett. 415, 1 (2005)]. Reaction to yield O(2) (X (3)Sigma(g)(-)) is the dominant removal pathway. At subthermal temperatures, the rate constants for the various vibrational quenching processes all increase down to T approximately = 60 K and then decrease at lower temperature.  相似文献

Oxygen Rydberg time-of-flight spectroscopy was used to study the vacuum ultraviolet photodissociation dynamics of N(2)O near 130 nm. The O((3)P(J)) products were tagged by excitation to high-n Rydberg levels and subsequently field ionized at a detector. In agreement with previous work, we find that O((3)P(J)) formation following excitation to the repulsive N(2)O D((1)Sigma(+)) state produces the first two electronically excited states of the N(2) counterfragment, N(2)(A (3)Sigma(u) (+)) and N(2)(B (3)Pi(g)). The O((3)P(J)) translational energy distribution reveals that the overall branching ratio between N(2)(A (3)Sigma(u) (+)) and N(2)(B (3)Pi(g)) formation is approximately 1.0:1.0 for J = 1 and 2, with slightly less N(2)(B (3)Pi(g)) produced in coincidence with O((3)P(0)). The angular distributions were found to be independent of J and highly anisotropic, with beta = 1.5+/-0.2.  相似文献

An alignment effect in the dissociative energy transfer reaction of Ar((3)P(2))+(X(2)O)(n)(X=N,H) was directly measured using an oriented Ar((3)P(2),M(J)=2) beam. The chemiluminescence intensity of N(2)(B,(3)Pi(g)) for (N(2)O)(n) and OH(A,(2)Sigma(+)) for (H(2)O)(n) was measured as a function of the magnetic orientation field direction in the collision frame. The relative reaction cross section for each magnetic substate in the collision frame, sigma(M(J) (') ), was determined. In both the reaction systems, it is observed that the dimer formation significantly enhances the alignment effect and decreases the reactivity, especially for sigma|1| and sigma|2|. A significant contribution of rank 4 moment is recognized in the dimer reaction.  相似文献

A experimental observation is presented on the N2O+ photodissociation process, which exhibits a complete channel switching effect in a narrow energy range. The N2O+ ions, prepared at the X2Pi (000) state by (3+1) multiphoton ionization of neutral N2O molecules at 360.6 nm, were excited to different vibrational levels in the A2Sigma+ state in a wavelength range of 275-328 nm. Based on the estimates of total released kinetic energies from the time-of-flight mass spectrum, it was found that the dissociation pathway of N2O+ (A2Sigma+), NO+ (X1Sigma+) + N(4S) with lower dissociation limit, changes abruptly and completely to NO+ (X1Sigma+) + N(2D) with higher dissociation limit, in a excitation energy range of merely 250 cm(-1) at lambda approximately 312.5 nm. This phenomenon was explained by competition between the two dissociation pathways across the special excitation energy region.  相似文献

The importance of vibrational-to-electronic (V-E) energy transfer mediated by spin-orbit coupling in the collisional removal of O2(X 3Sigmag-,upsilon>or=26) by O2 has been reported in a recent communication [F. Dayou, J. Campos-Martinez, M. I. Hernandez, and R. Hernandez-Lamoneda, J. Chem. Phys. 120, 10355 (2004)]. The present work provides details on the electronic properties of the dimer (O2)2 relevant to the self-relaxation of O2(X 3Sigmag-,upsilon>0) where V-E energy transfer involving the O2(a 1Deltag) and O2(b 1Sigmag+) states is incorporated. Two-dimensional electronic structure calculations based on highly correlated ab initio methods have been carried out for the potential-energy and spin-orbit coupling surfaces associated with the ground singlet and two low-lying excited triplet states of the dimer dissociating into O2(X 3Sigmag-)+O2(X 3Sigmag-), O2(a 1Deltag)+O2(X 3Sigmag-), and O2(b 1Sigmag+)+O2(X 3Sigmag-). The resulting interaction potentials for the two excited triplet states display very similar features along the intermolecular separation, whereas differences arise with the ground singlet state for which the spin-exchange interaction produces a shorter equilibrium distance and higher binding energy. The vibrational dependence is qualitatively similar for the three studied interaction potentials. The spin-orbit coupling between the ground and second excited states is already nonzero in the O2+O2 dissociation limit and keeps its asymptotic value up to relatively short intermolecular separations, where the coupling increases for intramolecular distances close to the equilibrium of the isolated diatom. On the other hand, state mixing between the two excited triplet states leads to a noticeable collision-induced spin-orbit coupling between the ground and first excited states. The results are discussed in terms of specific features of the dimer electronic structure (including a simple four-electron model) and compared with existing theoretical and experimental data. This work gives theoretical insight into the origin of electronic energy-transfer mechanisms in O2+O2 collisions.  相似文献

The electronic structure and photochemistry of the O(2n)(-)(H(2)O)(m), n = 1-6, m = 0-1 cluster anions is investigated at 532 nm using photoelectron imaging and photofragment mass-spectroscopy. The results indicate that both pure oxygen clusters and their hydrated counterparts with n ≥ 2 form an O(4)(-) core. Fragmentation of these clusters yields predominantly O(2)(-) and O(2)(-)·H(2)O anionic products, with the addition of O(4)(-) fragments for larger parent clusters. The fragment autodetachment patterns observed for O(6)(-) and larger O(2n)(-) species, as well as some of their hydrated counterparts, indicate that the corresponding O(2)(-) fragments are formed in excited vibrational states (v ≥ 4). Yet, surprisingly, the unsolvated O(4)(-) anion itself does not show fragment autodetachment at 532 nm. It is hypothesized that the vibrationally excited O(2)(-) is formed in the intra-cluster photodissociation of the O(4)(-) core anion via a charge-hopping electronic relaxation mechanism mediated by asymmetric solvation of the nascent photofragments: O(4)(-) → O(2)(-)(X(2)Π(g)) + O(2)(a(1)Δ(g)) → O(2)(X(3)Σ(g)(-)) + O(2)(-)(X(2)Π(g)). This process depends on the presence of solvent molecules and leads to vibrationally excited O(2)(-)(X(2)Π(g)) products.  相似文献

In this study we report on the photophysical properties of some [RuL(CN)4](2-) complex ions where L = 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy), 5,5'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine (dmb), 1,10-phenanthroline (phen), 1-ethyl-2-(2-pyridyl)benzimidazole (pbe), 2,2':6',2'-terpyridine (tpy) and [RuL3](2+) where L = bpy or phen. Measurements were carried out in H2O and D2O. The effect of the deuterium isotope effect on the lifetime of these complexes is discussed. It has also been found that the presence of cyano groups has a pronounced effect on the lifetime of the excited metal-to-ligand charge transfer ((3)MLCT) of these complexes. Quenching of the (3)MLCT states by oxygen is reported in H2O and D2O. The rate constants, k(q), for quenching of the (3)MLCT states of these ruthenium complex ions by molecular oxygen are in the range (2.55 to 7.01) x 10(9) M(-1) s(-1) in H2O and (3.38 to 5.69) x 10(9) M(-1) s(-1) in D2O. The efficiency of singlet oxygen, O2((1)Delta(g)), production as a result of the (3)MLCT quenching by oxygen, f(Delta)(T), is reported in D2O and found to be in the range 0.29-0.52. The rate constants, k(q)(Delta), for quenching of singlet oxygen by ground state sensitizers in D2O is also reported and found to be in the range (0.15 to 3.46) x 10(7) M(-1) s(-1). The rate constants and the efficiency of singlet oxygen formation are quantitatively reproduced by a model that assumes the competition of a non-charge transfer (nCT) and a CT deactivation channel. nCT deactivation occurs from a fully established spin-statistical equilibrium of (1)(T1(3)Sigma) and (3)(T1(3)Sigma) encounter complexes by internal conversion (IC) to lower excited complexes that dissociate to yield O2((1)Delta(g)), and O2((3)Sigmag-). The balance between CT and nCT deactivation channels which is described by the relative contribution p(CT) of CT induced deactivation is discussed. The kinetic model proposed for the quenching of pi-pi* triplet states by oxygen can also be applied to the quenching of (3)MLCT states by oxygen.  相似文献

Low lying electronic states of the beryllium dimer were investigated by laser induced fluorescence (LIF) and resonance enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI) techniques. Be(2) was formed by pulsed laser ablation of Be metal in the presence of helium carrier gas, followed by a free jet expansion into vacuum. Several previously unobserved states of the dimer were characterized. These included transitions of the triplet manifold (2)(3)Pi(g) <-- (1)(3)Sigma(u)+ and (3)(3)Pi(g) <-- (1)(3)Sigma(u)+, for which rotationally resolved bands were obtained. In addition, transitions to the v' = 10-18 vibrational levels of the A (1)Pi(u) state were recorded. Photoionization efficiency (PIE) measurements were used to determine an accurate ionization energy (IE) for Be(2) of 7.418(5) eV and the term energy for (1)(3)Sigma(u)+. Above the ionization threshold the PIE spectrum was found to be highly structured, consisting of overlapping Rydberg series that converged on excited vibrational levels of Be(2)+. Analysis of these series yielded a vibration frequency for the X(2)Sigma(u)+ state of 498(20) cm(-1). The bond dissociation energy for Be(2)+, deduced from the IE measurement, was 16 072(40) cm(-1). Multi-reference configuration interaction (MRCI) calculations were carried out for Be(2) and Be(2)+, yielding results that were in excellent agreement with the experimental observations.  相似文献

The emission spectrum of the B2Sigma+ --> X2Sigma+ system in the 12C17O+ has been recorded at high resolution with conventional spectroscopic techniques. A graphite hollow cathode lamp filled with oxygen, enriched approximately 45% with the 17O2 isotope, has given strong spectra of hitherto unreported bands system of 12C17O+. Four bands, which form the 0-v(') (v(')=1 -4) progression, have been rotationally analysed with effective Hamiltonians of Brown [J. Mol. Spectrosc. 74 (1979) 294]. Next the rovibronic structure parameters, for the B2Sigma+ and X2Sigma+ states, have been determined from merge calculations. Finally, principal equilibrium molecular constants for the ground state: omegae=2186.032(26) cm(-1), omegae xe=14.7848(43) cm(-1), Be=1.927271(73) cm(-1) , alphae=1.8432(24) x 10(-2) cm(-1), De=6.018(26) x 10(-6) cm(-1), betae=1.11(92) x 10(-8) cm(-1) and the sigma(e)(B-->X)=45876.563(34) cm(-1) value of the 12CO17+ molecule have been derived for the first time in this investigation.  相似文献

The photophysical properties of Rh(2)(O(2)CCH(3))(4)(L)(2) (L = CH(3)OH, THF = tetrahydrofuran, PPh(3) = triphenylphosphine, py = pyridine) were explored upon excitation with visible light. Time-resolved absorption shows that all the complexes possess a long-lived transient (3.5-5.0 micros) assigned as an electronic excited state of the molecules, and they exhibit an optical transition at approximately 760 nm whose position is independent of axial ligand. No emission from the Rh(2)(O(2)CCH(3))(4)(L)(2) (L = CH(3)OH, THF, PPh(3), py) systems was detected, but energy transfer from Rh(2)(O(2)CCH(3))(4)(PPh(3))(2) to the (3)pipi excited state of perylene is observed. Electron transfer from Rh(2)(O(2)CCH(3))(4)(PPh(3))(2) to 4,4'-dimethyl viologen (MV(2+)) and chloro-p-benzoquinone (Cl-BQ) takes place with quenching rate constants (k(q)) of 8.0 x 10(6) and 1.2 x 10(6) M(-1) s(-1) in methanol, respectively. A k(q) value of 2 x 10(8) M(-1) s(-1) was measured for the quenching of the excited state of Rh(2)(O(2)CCH(3))(4)(PPh(3))(2) by O(2) in methanol. The observations are consistent with the production of an excited state with excited-state energy, E(00), between 1.34 and 1.77 eV.  相似文献
