The formylglycine‐generating enzyme (FGE) is a unique copper protein that catalyzes oxygen‐dependent C−H activation. We describe 1.66 Å‐ and 1.28 Å‐resolution crystal structures of FGE from Thermomonospora curvata in complex with either AgI or CdII providing definitive evidence for a high‐affinity metal‐binding site in this enzyme. The structures reveal a bis‐cysteine linear coordination of the monovalent metal, and tetrahedral coordination of the bivalent metal. Similar coordination changes may occur in the active enzyme as a result of CuI/II redox cycling. Complexation of copper atoms by two cysteine residues is common among copper‐trafficking proteins, but is unprecedented for redox‐active copper enzymes or synthetic copper catalysts.  相似文献

Transition‐metal ions with open‐shell configurations hold promise in the development of novel coordination chemistry and potentially unprecedented redox catalysis. Framework‐substituted Ti3+ ions with tetrahedral coordination are generated by reductive activation of titanium silicalite‐1 with triethylaluminum, an indispensable co‐catalyst for heterogeneous Ziegler–Natta polymerization catalysts. Continuous‐wave and pulse electron paramagnetic resonance methods are applied to unravel details on the local environment of the reduced transition metal‐ions, which are shown to be part of the silica framework by detection of 29Si hyperfine interactions. The chemical accessibility of the reduced sites is probed using ammonia as probe molecule. Evidence is found for the coordination of a single ammonia molecule. Comparison to similar systems, such as TiAlPO‐5, reveals clear differences in the coordination chemistry of the reduced Ti sites in the two solids, which may be understood considering the different electronic properties of the solid frameworks.  相似文献

The mechanism of the nitrene‐group transfer reaction from an organic azide to isonitrile catalyzed by a ZrIV d0 complex carrying a redox‐active ligand was studied by using quantum chemical molecular‐modeling methods. The key step of the reaction involves the two‐electron reduction of the azide moiety to release dinitrogen and provide the nitrene fragment, which is subsequently transferred to the isonitrile substrate. The reducing equivalents are supplied by the redox‐active bis(2‐iso‐propylamido‐4‐methoxyphenyl)‐amide ligand. The main focus of this work is on the mechanism of this redox reaction, in particular, two plausible mechanistic scenarios are considered: 1) the metal center may actively participate in the electron‐transfer process by first recruiting the electrons from the redox‐active ligand and becoming formally reduced in the process, followed by a classical metal‐based reduction of the azide reactant. 2) Alternatively, a non‐classical, direct ligand‐to‐ligand charge‐transfer process can be envisioned, in which no appreciable amount of electron density is accumulated at the metal center during the course of the reaction. Our calculations indicate that the non‐classical ligand‐to‐ligand charge‐transfer mechanism is much more favorable energetically. Utilizing a series of carefully constructed putative intermediates, both mechanistic scenarios were compared and contrasted to rationalize the preference for ligand‐to‐ligand charge‐transfer mechanism.  相似文献

Cobalt spinel oxides are a class of promising transition metal (TM) oxides for catalyzing oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Their catalytic activity depends on the electronic structure. In a spinel oxide lattice, each oxygen anion is shared amongst its four nearest transition metal cations, of which one is located within the tetrahedral interstices and the remaining three cations are in the octahedral interstices. This work uncovered the influence of oxygen anion charge distribution on the electronic structure of the redox‐active building block Co?O. The charge of oxygen anion tends to shift toward the octahedral‐occupied Co instead of tetrahedral‐occupied Co, which hence produces strong orbital interaction between octahedral Co and O. Thus, the OER activity can be promoted by pushing more Co into the octahedral site or shifting the oxygen charge towards the redox‐active metal center in CoO6 octahedra.  相似文献

The thermal [4+3] cycloaddition reaction between allenes and tethered dienes (1,3‐butadiene and furan) assisted by transition metals (AuI, AuIII, PdII, and PtII) was studied computationally within the density functional theory framework and compared to the analogous non‐organometallic process in terms of activation barriers, synchronicity and aromaticity of the corresponding transition states. It was found that the metal‐mediated cycloaddition reaction is concerted and takes place via transition structures that can be even more synchronous and more aromatic than their non‐organometallic analogues. However, the processes exhibit slightly to moderately higher activation barriers than the parent cycloaddition involving the hydroxyallylic cation. The bond polarization induced by the metal moiety is clearly related to the interaction of the transition metal with the allylic π* molecular orbital, which constitutes the LUMO of the initial reactant. Finally, replacement of the 1,3‐butadiene by furan caused the transformation to occur stepwise in both the non‐organometallic and metal‐assisted processes.  相似文献

A new tetracarboxylate ligand having short and long arms formed 2D layer ZnII coordination polymer 1 with paddle‐wheel secondary building units under solvothermal conditions. The framework undergoes solvent‐specific single crystal‐to‐single crystal (SC‐SC) transmetalation to produce 1Cu . With a sterically encumbered dipyridyl linker, the same ligand forms non‐interpenetrated, 3D, pillared‐layer ZnII metal–organic framework (MOF) 2 , which takes part in SC‐SC linker‐exchange reactions to produce three daughter frameworks. The parent MOF 2 shows preferential incorporation of the longest linker in competitive linker‐exchange experiments. All the 3D MOFs undergo complete SC‐SC transmetalation with CuII, whereby metal exchange in different solvents and monitoring of X‐ray structures revealed that bulky solvated metal ions lead to ordering of the shortest linker in the framework, which confirms that the solvated metal ions enter through the pores along the linker axis.  相似文献

As advanced negative electrodes for powerful and useful high‐voltage bipolar batteries, an intercalated metal–organic framework (iMOF), 2,6‐naphthalene dicarboxylate dilithium, is described which has an organic‐inorganic layered structure of π‐stacked naphthalene and tetrahedral LiO4 units. The material shows a reversible two‐electron‐transfer Li intercalation at a flat potential of 0.8 V with a small polarization. Detailed crystal structure analysis during Li intercalation shows the layered framework to be maintained and its volume change is only 0.33 %. The material possesses two‐dimensional pathways for efficient electron and Li+ transport formed by Li‐doped naphthalene packing and tetrahedral LiO3C network. A cell with a high potential operating LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 spinel positive and the proposed negative electrodes exhibited favorable cycle performance (96 % capacity retention after 100 cycles), high specific energy (300 Wh kg?1), and high specific power (5 kW kg?1). An 8 V bipolar cell was also constructed by connecting only two cells in series.  相似文献

A conjugated copper(II) catecholate based metal–organic framework (namely Cu‐DBC) was prepared using a D2‐symmetric redox‐active ligand in a copper bis(dihydroxy) coordination geometry. The π‐d conjugated framework exhibits typical semiconducting behavior with a high electrical conductivity of ca. 1.0 S m?1 at room temperature. Benefiting from the good electrical conductivity and the excellent redox reversibility of both ligand and copper centers, Cu‐DBC electrode features superior capacitor performances with gravimetric capacitance up to 479 F g?1 at a discharge rate of 0.2 A g?1. Moreover, the symmetric solid‐state supercapacitor of Cu‐DBC exhibits high areal (879 mF cm?2) and volumetric (22 F cm?3) capacitances, as well as good rate capability. These metrics are superior to most reported MOF‐based supercapacitors, demonstrating promising applications in energy‐storage devices.  相似文献

A major challenge is the development of multifunctional metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), wherein magnetic and electronic functionality can be controlled simultaneously. Herein, we rationally construct two 3D MOFs by introducing the redox active ligand tetra(4‐pyridyl)tetrathiafulvalene (TTF(py)4) and spin‐crossover FeII centers. The materials exhibit redox activity, in addition to thermally and photo‐induced spin crossover (SCO). A crystal‐to‐crystal transformation induced by I2 doping has also been observed and the resulting intercalated structure determined. The conductivity could be significantly enhanced (up to 3 orders of magnitude) by modulating the electronic state of the framework via oxidative doping; SCO behavior was also modified and the photo‐magnetic behavior was switched off. This work provides a new strategy to tune the spin state and conductivity of framework materials through guest‐induced redox‐state switching.  相似文献

Two stable, non‐interpenetrated MOFs, PCN‐521 and PCN‐523, were synthesized by a symmetry‐guided strategy. Augmentation of the 4‐connected nodes in the fluorite structure with a rigid tetrahedral ligand and substitution of the 8‐connected nodes by the Zr/Hf clusters yielded MOFs with large octahedral interstitial cavities. They are the first examples of Zr/Hf MOFs with tetrahedral linkers. PCN‐521 has the largest BET surface area (3411 m2 g‐1), pore size (20.5×20.5×37.4 Å) and void volume (78.5%) of MOFs formed from tetrahedral ligands. This work not only demonstrates a successful implementation of rational design of MOFs with desired topology, but also provides a systematic way of constructing non‐interpenetrated MOFs with high porosity.  相似文献

Photoactive metal complexes employing Earth‐abundant metal ions are a key to sustainable photophysical and photochemical applications. We exploit the effects of an inversion center and ligand non‐innocence to tune the luminescence and photochemistry of the excited state of the [CrN6] chromophore [Cr(tpe)2]3+ with close to octahedral symmetry (tpe=1,1,1‐tris(pyrid‐2‐yl)ethane). [Cr(tpe)2]3+ exhibits the longest luminescence lifetime (τ=4500 μs) reported up to date for a molecular polypyridyl chromium(III) complex together with a very high luminescence quantum yield of Φ=8.2 % at room temperature in fluid solution. Furthermore, the tpe ligands in [Cr(tpe)2]3+ are redox non‐innocent, leading to reversible reductive chemistry. The excited state redox potential and lifetime of [Cr(tpe)2]3+ surpass those of the classical photosensitizer [Ru(bpy)3]2+ (bpy=2,2′‐bipyridine) enabling energy transfer (to oxygen) and photoredox processes (with azulene and tri(n‐butyl)amine).  相似文献

Preparation of porous materials from one‐dimensional polymers is challenging because the packing of polymer chains results in a dense, non‐porous arrangement. Herein, we demonstrate the remarkable adaptation of an amorphous, linear, non‐porous, flexible organic polymer into a three‐dimensional, highly porous, crystalline solid, as the organic component of a metal–organic framework (MOF). A polymer with aromatic dicarboxylic acids in the backbone functioned as a polymer ligand upon annealing with ZnII, generating a polymer–metal–organic framework (polyMOF). These materials break the dogma that MOFs must be prepared from small, rigid ligands. Similarly, polyMOFs contradict conventional polymer chemistry by demonstrating that linear and amorphous polymers can be readily coaxed into a highly crystalline, porous, three‐dimensional structure by coordination chemistry.  相似文献

The tuning of metal–metal interactions in multinuclear assemblies is a challenge. Selective P coordination of a redox‐active PNO ligand to AuI followed by homoleptic metalation of the NO pocket with NiII affords a unique trinuclear Au–Ni–Au complex. This species features two antiferromagnetically coupled ligand‐centered radicals and a double intramolecular d8–d10 interaction, as supported by spectroscopic, single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction, and computational data. A corresponding cationic dinuclear Au–Ni analogue with a stronger d8–d10 interaction is also reported. Although both heterobimetallic structures display rich electrochemistry, only the trinuclear Au–Ni–Au complex facilitates electrocatalytic C?X bond activation of alkyl halides in its doubly reduced state. Hence, the presence of a redox‐active ligand framework, an available coordination site at gold, and the nature of the nickel–gold interaction appear to be essential for this reactivity.  相似文献

Here we report a redox‐anchoring strategy for synthesizing a non‐noble metal carbide (MoCx) nanocomposite electrocatalyst for water electrolysis in acidic media, using glucose and ammonium heptamolybdate as carbon and Mo precursors, respectively, without the need of gaseous carbon sources such as CH4. Specifically, the aldehyde groups of glucose are capable of reducing Mo6+ to Mo4+ (MoO2), and thus molybdenum species can be well anchored by a redox reaction onto a carbon matrix to prevent the aggregation of MoCx nanoparticles during the following carbonization process. The morphology and chemical composition of the electrocatalysts were well characterized by BSE‐SEM, TEM, XRD and XPS. The obtained MoCx−2 sample showed a reasonably high hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity and excellent stability in an acidic electrolyte, and its overpotential required for a current density output of 20 mA cm−2 is as low as 193 mV. Such a prominent performance is ascribed to the excellent dispersity and nano‐size, and the large reactive surface area of MoCx particles. This work may open a new way to the design and fabrication of other non‐noble metal carbide nanocatalysts for various electrochemical applications.  相似文献

Sterically hindering bidentate chelates, such as 2,9‐diphenyl‐1,10‐phenanthroline, form entwined complexes with copper(I) and other tetrahedrally coordinated transition‐metal centres. To prepare octahedral complexes containing two entwined tridentate ligands and thus apply a strategy similar to that used for making catenanes with tetrahedral metal centres, the use of the classical terpy ligand (terpy=2,2′:6′,2′′‐terpyridine) appears to be attractive. In fact, 6,6′′‐diphenyl‐2,2′:6′,2′′‐terpyridine (dp‐terpy) is not appropriate due to strong “pinching” of the organic backbone by coordination to the metal and thus stable entwined complexes with this ligand cannot be obtained. Herein, we report the synthesis and coordination properties of a new family of tridentate ligands, the main features of which are their endocyclic nature and non‐sterically hindering character. The coordinating fragment consists of two 8′‐phenylisoquinolin‐3′‐yl groups attached at the 2 and 6 positions of a pyridine nucleus. Octahedral complexes containing two such entangled ligands around an octahedral metal centre, such as FeII, RuII or CoIII, are highly stable, with no steric congestion around the metal. By using functionalised ligands bearing terminal olefins, double ring‐closing metathesis leads to [2]catenanes in good yield with FeII or CoIII as the templating metal centre. The X‐ray crystallography structures of the FeII precursor and the FeII catenane are also reported. These show that although significant pinching of the ligand is observed in both FeII complexes, the system is very open and no steric constraints can be detected.  相似文献

Recently, carboxylate metal‐organic framework (MOF) materials were reported to perform well as anode materials for lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs); however, the presumed lithium storage mechanism of MOFs is controversial. To gain insight into the mechanism of MOFs as anode materials for LIBs, a self‐supported Cu‐TCNQ (TCNQ: 7,7,8,8‐tetracyanoquinodimethane) film was fabricated via an in situ redox routine, and directly used as electrode for LIBs. The first discharge and charge specific capacities of the self‐supported Cu‐TCNQ electrode are 373.4 and 219.4 mAh g?1, respectively. After 500 cycles, the reversible specific capacity of Cu‐TCNQ reaches 280.9 mAh g?1 at a current density of 100 mA g?1. Mutually validated data reveal that the high capacity is ascribed to the multiple‐electron redox conversion of both metal ions and ligands, as well as the reversible insertion and desertion of Li+ ions into the benzene rings of ligands. This work raises the expectation for MOFs as electrode materials of LIBs by utilizing multiple active sites and provides new clues for designing improved electrode materials for LIBs.  相似文献

Reversible proton‐ and electron‐transfer steps are crucial for various chemical transformations. The electron‐reservoir behavior of redox non‐innocent ligands and the proton‐reservoir behavior of chemically non‐innocent ligands can be cooperatively utilized for substrate bond activation. Although site‐decoupled proton‐ and electron‐transfer steps are often found in enzymatic systems, generating model metal complexes with these properties remains challenging. To tackle this issue, we present herein complexes [(cod?H)M(μ‐L2?) M (cod?H)] (M=PtII, [ 1 ] or PdII, [ 2 ], cod=1,5‐cyclooctadiene, H2L=2,5‐di‐[2,6‐(diisopropyl)anilino]‐1,4‐benzoquinone), in which cod acts as a proton reservoir, and L2? as an electron reservoir. Protonation of [ 2 ] leads to an unusual tetranuclear complex. However, [ 1 ] can be stepwise reversibly protonated with up to two protons on the cod?H ligands, and the protonated forms can be stepwise reversibly reduced with up to two electrons on the L2? ligand. The doubly protonated form of [ 1 ] is also shown to react with OMe? leading to an activation of the cod ligands. The site‐decoupled proton and electron reservoir sources work in tandem in a three‐way cooperative process that results in the transfer of two electrons and two protons to a substrate leading to its double reduction and protonation. These results will possibly provide new insights into developing catalysts for multiple proton‐ and electron‐transfer reactions by using metal complexes of non‐innocent ligands.  相似文献

The preferential substitution of oxo ligands over alkyl ones of rare‐earth complexes is commonly considered as “impossible” due to the high oxophilicity of metal centers. Now, it has been shown that simply assembling mixed methyl/oxo rare‐earth complexes to a rigid trinuclear cluster framework cannot only enhance the activity of the Ln‐oxo bond, but also protect the highly reactive Ln‐alkyl bond, thus providing a previously unrecognized opportunity to selectively manipulate the oxo ligand in the presence of numerous reactive functionalities. Such trimetallic cluster has proved to be a suitable platform for developing the unprecedented non‐redox rare‐earth‐mediated oxygen atom transfer from ketones to CS2 and PhNCS. Controlled experiments and computational studies shed light on the driving force for these reactions, emphasizing the importance of the sterical accessibility and multimetallic effect of the cluster framework in promoting reversal of reactivity of rare‐earth oxo complexes.  相似文献

High‐valent cobalt‐oxo intermediates are proposed as reactive intermediates in a number of cobalt‐complex‐mediated oxidation reactions. Herein we report the spectroscopic capture of low‐spin (S=1/2) CoIV‐oxo species in the presence of redox‐inactive metal ions, such as Sc3+, Ce3+, Y3+, and Zn2+, and the investigation of their reactivity in C? H bond activation and sulfoxidation reactions. Theoretical calculations predict that the binding of Lewis acidic metal ions to the cobalt‐oxo core increases the electrophilicity of the oxygen atom, resulting in the redox tautomerism of a highly unstable [(TAML)CoIII(O.)]2? species to a more stable [(TAML)CoIV(O)(Mn+)] core. The present report supports the proposed role of the redox‐inactive metal ions in facilitating the formation of high‐valent metal–oxo cores as a necessary step for oxygen evolution in chemistry and biology.  相似文献

Main‐group‐element catalysts are a desirable alternative to transition‐metal catalysts because of natural abundance and cost. However, the examples are very limited. Catalytic cycles involving a redox process and E‐ligand cooperation (E=main‐group element), which are often found in catalytic cycles of transition‐metal catalysts, have not been reported. Herein theoretical investigations of a catalytic hydrogenation of azobenzene with ammonia–borane using a trivalent phosphorus compound, which was experimentally proposed to occur through PIII/PV redox processes via an unusual pentavalent dihydridophosphorane, were performed. DFT and ONIOM(CCSD(T):MP2) calculations disclosed that this catalytic reaction occurs through a P‐O cooperation mechanism, which resembles the metal‐ligand cooperation mechanism of transition‐metal catalysts.  相似文献
