By perturbative calculations of the high-temperature ground-state axial vector current of fermion fields coupled to gauge fields, an anomalous Chern–Simons topological mass term is induced in the three-dimensional effective action. The anomaly in three dimensions appears just in the ground-state current rather than in the divergence of ground-state current. In the Abelian case, the contribution comes only from the vacuum polarization graph, whereas in the non-Abelian case, contributions come from the vacuum polarization graph and the two triangle graphs. The relation between the quantization of the Chern–Simons coefficient and the Dirac quantization condition of magnetic charge is also obtained. It implies that in a (2+1)-dimensional QED with the Chern–Simons topological mass term and a magnetic monopole with magnetic charge g present, the Chern–Simons coefficient must be also quantized, just as in the non-Abelian case. The Chern–Simons actions of the multiple fundamental string and the multiple gravitational wave are established to full order in the background fields. Gauge invariance is checked. Special attention is drawn to the non-Abelian gauge transformations of the world-volume fields.  相似文献

The model of nonrelativistic particles coupled to nonstandard (2+1)-gravity is extended to include Abelian or non-Abelian charges coupled to Chern–Simons gauge fields. Equivalently, the model may be viewed as describing the (Abelian or non-Abelian) anyonic dynamics of Chern–Simons particles coupled, in a reparameterization invariant way, to a translational Chern–Simons action. The quantum 2-body problem is described by a nonstandard Schr?dinger equation with a noninteger angular momentum depending on energy as well as particle charges. Some numerical results describing the modification of the energy levels by these charges in the confined regime are presented. The modification involves a shift as well as splitting of the levels. In this Letter, we apply the proper-time method to generate the Lorentz-violating Chern–Simons terms in the four-dimensional Yang–Mills and non-linearized gravity theories. It is shown that the coefficient of the induced Chern–Simons term is finite but regularization dependent.  相似文献

The Lagrangian of non-Abelian tensor gauge fields describes the interaction of the Yang–Mills and massless tensor bosons of increasing helicities. We have found a metric-independent gauge invariant density which is a four-dimensional analog of the Chern–Simons density. The Lagrangian augmented by this Chern–Simons-like invariant describes massive Yang–Mills boson, providing a gauge-invariant mass gap for a four-dimensional gauge field theory. We present invariant densities which can provide masses to the high-rank tensor bosons.  相似文献

The non-Abelian Kubo formula is derived from the kinetic theory. That expression is compared with the one obtained using the eikonal for a Chern–Simons theory. The multiple time-scale method is used to study the non-Abelian Kubo formula, and the damping rate for longitudinal color waves is computed.  相似文献

We study topological boundary conditions in abelian Chern–Simons theory and line operators confined to such boundaries. From the mathematical point of view, their relationships are described by a certain 2-category associated to an even integer-valued symmetric bilinear form (the matrix of Chern–Simons couplings). We argue that boundary conditions correspond to Lagrangian subgroups in the finite abelian group classifying bulk line operators (the discriminant group). We describe properties of boundary line operators; in particular we compute the boundary associator. We also study codimension one defects (surface operators) in abelian Chern–Simons theories. As an application, we obtain a classification of such theories up to isomorphism, in general agreement with the work of Belov and Moore.  相似文献

The contribution of nontrivial vacuum (topological) excitations, more specifically vortex configurations of the self-dual Chern–Simons–Higgs model, to the functional partition function is considered. By using a duality transformation, we arrive at a representation of the partition function in terms of which explicit vortex degrees of freedom are coupled to a dual gauge field. By matching the obtained action to a field theory for the vortices, the physical properties of the model in the presence of vortex excitations are then studied. In terms of this field theory for vortices in the self-dual Chern–Simons–Higgs model, we determine the location of the critical value for the Chern–Simons parameter below which vortex condensation can happen in the system. The effects of self-energy quantum corrections to the vortex field are also considered.  相似文献

We consider Chern–Simons theories for the Poincaré, de Sitter and anti-de Sitter groups in three dimensions which generalise the Chern–Simons formulation of 3d gravity. We determine conditions under which κ-Poincaré symmetry and its de Sitter and anti-de Sitter analogues can be associated to these theories as quantised symmetries. Assuming the usual form of those symmetries, with a timelike vector as deformation parameter, we find that such an association is possible only in the de Sitter case, and that the associated Chern–Simons action is not the gravitational one. Although the resulting theory and 3d gravity have the same equations of motion for the gauge field, they are not equivalent, even classically, since they differ in their symplectic structure and the coupling to matter. We deduce that κ-Poincaré symmetry is not associated to either classical or quantum gravity in three dimensions. Starting from the (non-gravitational) Chern–Simons action we explain how to construct a multi-particle model which is invariant under the classical analogue of κ-de Sitter symmetry, and carry out the first steps in that construction.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the effects of Lorentz Symmetry Breaking on the thermodynamic properties of ideal gases. Inspired by the dispersion relation coming from the Carroll–Field–Jackiw model for Electrodynamics with Lorentz and CPT violation term, we compute the thermodynamics quantities for a Boltzmann, Fermi–Dirac and Bose–Einstein distributions. Two regimes are analyzed: the large and the small Lorentz violation. In the first case, we show that the topological mass induced by the Chern–Simons term behaves as a chemical potential. For Bose–Einstein gases, a condensation in both regimes can be found.  相似文献

The paper deals with the extension of the Weak Isolated Horizon (WIH) formulation of black hole horizons to the non-minimally coupled scalar fields. In the early part of the paper, we introduce an appropriate Holst type action to incorporate scalar fields non-minimally coupled to gravity and construct the covariant phase space of the theory. Using this phase space, we proceed to prove the laws of black hole mechanics. Further, we show that with a gauge fixing, the symplectic structure on the horizon reduces to that of a U(1) Chern–Simons theory. The level of the Chern–Simons theory is shown to depend on the non-minimally coupled scalar field.  相似文献

We study the duality of the supersymmetric self-dual and Maxwell–Chern–Simons theories coupled to a fermionic matter superfield, using a master action. This approach evades the difficulties inherent to the quartic couplings that appear when matter is represented by a scalar superfield. The price is that the spinorial matter superfield represents a unusual supersymmetric multiplet, whose main physical properties we also discuss.  相似文献

Chern–Simons models for gravity are interesting because they provide a truly gauge-invariant action principle in the fiber-bundle sense. So far, their main drawback has largely been its perceived remoteness from standard General Relativity, based on the presence of higher powers of the curvature in the Lagrangian (except, remarkably, for three-dimensional spacetime). Here we report on a simple model that suggests a mechanism by which standard General Relativity in five-dimensional spacetime may indeed emerge at a special critical point in the space of couplings, where additional degrees of freedom and corresponding “anomalous” Gauss–Bonnet constraints drop out from the Chern–Simons action. To achieve this goal, both the Lie algebra gg and the symmetric gg-invariant tensor that define the Chern–Simons Lagrangian are constructed by means of the Lie algebra S-expansion method with a suitable finite Abelian semigroup S. The results are generalized to arbitrary odd dimensions, and the possible extension to the case of eleven-dimensional supergravity is briefly discussed.  相似文献

We consider a novel derivation of the expectation values of holonomies in Chern–Simons theory, based on Stokes’ Theorem and the functional properties of the Chern–Simons action. It involves replacing the connection by certain functional derivatives under the path integral. It turns out that ordering choices have to be made in the process, and we demonstrate that, quite surprisingly, the Duflo isomorphism gives the right ordering, at least in the simple cases that we consider. In this way, we determine the expectation values of unknotted, but possibly linked, holonomy loops for SU(2) and SU(3), and sketch how the method may be applied to more complicated cases. Our manipulations of the path integral are formal but well motivated by a rigorous calculus of integration on spaces of generalized connections which has been developed in the context of loop quantum gravity.  相似文献

The two-point gauge correlation function in Yang–Mills–Chern–Simons theory in three dimensional Euclidean space is analysed by taking into account the non-perturbative effects of the Gribov horizon. In this way, we are able to describe the confinement and de-confinement regimes, which naturally depend on the topological mass and on the gauge coupling constant of the theory.  相似文献

The effect of repulsive steepness of the soft-core square well (SCSW) potential model on the second virial coefficient, critical behaviour (two- phase region and the position of critical point), and coordination number are investigated. The soft-core thermodynamic perturbation theory (TPT) presented by Weeks-Chandler-Anderson (WCA) recently developed by Ben-Amotz and Stell (BAS) has been used for the reference system, and the Barker-Henderson TPT for the perturbed system. The Barker-Henderson macroscopic compressibility approximation has been used for all order perturbation terms in which the second-order one is improved by assuming that the molecules in every two neighbouring shells are correlated upon the original assumption. By using the hard-sphere isothermal compressibility consistency for the radial distribution function (RDF), an analytical closed expression has been derived for the Helmholtz free energy function contained effective hard-sphere diameter. The accuracy of the model has been examined for the hard-core system, and an appropriate range found for the attractive width of the potential well (R), then the effect of steepness parameter on the critical quantities, coordination number, and the inversion temperature of the second virial coefficient, has been investigated qualitatively. The predicted results are in good agreement with the computer simulation data for the critical constants, and coordination number at the limit of the hard-core square-well potential model at least qualitatively, and for the attractive range 1.55 ≤ R ≤ 1.7, quantitatively. It was found that the steepness of the potential model has a marginal effect on the critical behaviour, and also every thermodynamic quantity at low and medium temperatures for which the molecular penetration is negligible, but since the penetration at high temperatures is significant, the role of the steepness of potential on the inversion temperature of the second virial coefficient and coordination number is highlighted.  相似文献

Interactions between isolated nucleosome core particles are studied as a function of the monovalent salt concentration by osmometry and by electrophoretic mobility measurements. The data are compared to the measurements performed on the protein-free DNA fragments and also analysed using the conventional theoretical approach. At low salt, an electrostatic screening effect accounts for the variation of the second virial coefficient whereas the simple hard-core contribution becomes predominant at high salt. In the intermediate range, an attraction occurs. In the light of previous results (Mangenot et al. Biophys. J. 82, 345 (2002)), we show that the flexible basic proteic tails are responsible for this attraction. A tail-bridging effect is discussed. Received 4 October 2001  相似文献

In this Letter, we investigate multiple existence of the multivortex solutions of the self-dual Chern–Simons CP(1) model on a flat torus for each range of the symmetry breaking parameter. We also study asymptotics of solutions as the Chern–Simons coupling constant goes to zero.  相似文献

The quantum mechanics and thermodynamics of SU(2) non-Abelian Chern-Simons particles (non-Abelian anyons) in an external magnetic field are addressed. We derive the N-body Hamiltonian in the (anti-) holomorphic gauge when the Hilbert space is projected onto the lowest Landau level of the magnetic field. In the presence of an additional harmonic potential, the N-body spectrum depends linearly on the coupling (statistics) parameter. We calculate the second virial coefficient and find that in the strong magnetic field limit it develops a step-wise behavior as a function of the statistics parameter, in contrast to the linear dependence in the case of Abelian anyons. For small enough values of the statistics parameter we relate the N-body partition functions in the lowest Landau level to these of SU(2) bosons and find that the cluster (and virial) coefficients dependence on the statistics parameter cancels.  相似文献
