The momentum and heat transfer in a laminar liquid film on a horizontal stretching sheet is analyzed by the Homotopy analysis method (HAM). Analytic series solutions are given and compared with numerical results given by other authors. The good agreement between them shows the effectiveness of HAM to the problem of liquid film on an unsteady stretching surface.  相似文献

The magnetohydrodynamics flow and heat transfer in a thin liquid film over an unsteady elastic stretching surface are analyzed by the homotopy analysis method. A more general surface temperature is taken into consideration. The effects of various parameters in this study are discussed and presented graphically. The good agreement between the analytic series solutions and the previous numerical results shows the effectiveness of HAM to this problem. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The influence of thermal radiation on the flow and heat transfer within Newtonian liquid film over an unsteady stretching sheet with and without thermocapillarity is examined. The governing non‐linear partial differential equations describing the problem are reduced to a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations using similarity transformation, which is solved numerically for different values of the thermal radiation parameter and the thermocapillarity parameter. The results show that the dimensionless velocity, the film thickness and the local Nusselt number increase as the thermocapillarity parameter increases, while the free surface temperature decreases with increasing the thermocapillarity parameter. Also, both the dimensionless temperature and the free surface temperature increase and the local Nusselt number decreases as the thermal radiation parameter increases. This paper investigates the problem of hydrodynamic boundary layer flow and heat transfer of a dusty fluid over an unsteady stretching surface. The study considers the effects of frictional heating(viscous dissipation) and internal heat generation or absorption. The basic equations governing the flow and heat transfer are reduced to a set of non-linear ordinary differential equations by applying suitable similarity transformations. The transformed equations are numerically solved by the Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg-45 order method. An analysis is carried out for two different cases of heating processes, namely, variable wall temperature(VWT) and variable heat flux(VHF).The effects of various physical parameters such as the magnetic parameter, the fluid-particle interaction parameter, the unsteady parameter, the Prandtl number, the Eckert number, the number density of dust particles, and the heat source/sink parameter on velocity and temperature profiles are shown in several plots. The effects of the wall temperature gradient function and the wall temperature function are tabulated and discussed.  相似文献

The present paper deals with the analysis of boundary layer flow and heat transfer of a dusty fluid over a stretching sheet with the effect of non-uniform heat source/sink. Here we consider two types of heating processes namely (i) prescribed surface temperature and (ii) prescribed surface heat flux. The momentum and thermal boundary layer equations of motion are solved numerically using Runge Kutta Fehlberg fourth–fifth order method (RKF45 Method). The effects of fluid particle interaction parameter, Eckert number, Prandtl number, Number of dust particle and non-uniform heat generation/absorption parameter on temperature distribution are analyzed and also the effect of wall temperature gradient function and wall temperature function are tabulated and discussed.  相似文献

The time evolution in the temperature field resulting from the sudden introduction of a heat source into the already fully established steady MHD flow of an electrically conducting fluid past a linearly stretching isothermal surface is considered. The problem is shown to be fully described by two dimensionless parameters, a modified magnetic field strength ?? and a heat source strength Q. Numerical solutions of the initial-value problem show that there is a critical value Q c of the parameter Q, dependent on ??, such that, for Q<Q c , the solution approaches a steady state at large times and, for Q>Q c , the solutions grows exponentially large as time increases. This growth rate is determined through an eigenvalue problem which also determines the critical value Q c . The limits of Q c for both small and large values of ?? are discussed.  相似文献

In this paper the problem of momentum and heat transfer in a thin liquid film of power-law fluid on an unsteady stretching surface has been studied. Numerical solutions are obtained for some representative values of the unsteadiness parameter S and the power-law index n for a wide range of the generalized Prandtl number, 0.001 ≤ Pr ≤ 1000. Typical temperature and velocity profiles, the dimensionless film thickness, free-surface temperature, and the surface heat fluxes are presented at selected controlling parameters. The results show that increasing the value of n tends to increase the boundary-layer thickness and broadens the temperature distributions. The free-surface temperature of a shear thinning fluid is larger than that of a Newtonian fluid, but the opposite trend is true for a shear thickening fluid. For small generalized Prandtl numbers, the surface heat flux increases with a decrease in n, but the impacts of n on the heat transfer diminish for Pr greater than a moderate value (approximately 1 ≤ Pr ≤ 10, depending on the magnitude of S).  相似文献

Liquid film flow due to an unsteady stretching sheet   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We have studied two-dimensional flow of a thin liquid film over an impulsively stretching sheet under assumption of uniform initial film thickness. Using singular perturbation technique both momentum and film evolution equations are solved analytically for small Reynolds number and these solutions are verified numerically. Numerical computation for large Reynolds number shows an anomalous behaviour of film thinning rate in different time zone. These results are explained physically and the crucial role-played by viscosity in this case is highlighted. It is found that faster rate of thinning can be obtained if the sheet is stretched impulsively with continuously increasing stretching speed.  相似文献

In this article, we present accurate analytical solutions for boundary layer flow and heat transfer of an incompressible and electrically conducting viscoelastic fluid over a linearly stretching surface subject to a transverse uniform magnetic field using the homotopy analysis method (HAM) for two general types of non-isothermal boundary conditions. In addition, we demonstrate that the previously reported analytical solutions for the temperature field given in terms of Kummer's function do not converge at the boundary. We provide a graphical and numerical demonstration of the convergence of the HAM solutions and tabulate the effects of various parameters on the skin friction coefficient and wall heat transfer.  相似文献

The paper considers the flow of a power-law fluid past a vertical stretching sheet. Effects of variable thermal conductivity and non-uniform heat source/sink on the heat transfer are addressed. The thermal conductivity is assumed to vary linearly with temperature. Similarity transformation is used to convert the governing partial differential equations into a set of coupled, non-linear ordinary differential equations. Two different types of boundary heating are considered, namely Prescribed power-law Surface Temperature (PST) and Prescribed power-law Heat Flux (PHF). Shooting method is used to obtain the numerical solution for the resulting boundary value problems. The effects of Chandrasekhar number, Grashof number, Prandtl number, non-uniform heat source/sink parameters, wall temperature parameter and variable thermal conductivity parameter on the dynamics are shown graphically in several plots. The skin friction and heat transfer coefficients are tabulated for a range of values of the parameters. Present study reveals that in a gravity affected flow buoyancy effect has a significant say in the control of flow and heat transfer.  相似文献

We study the MHD flow and also heat transfer in a viscoelastic liquid over a stretching sheet in the presence of radiation. The stretching of the sheet is assumed to be proportional to the distance from the slit. Two different temperature conditions are studied, namely (i) the sheet with prescribed surface temperature (PST) and (ii) the sheet with prescribed wall heat flux (PHF). The basic boundary layer equations for momentum and heat transfer, which are non-linear partial differential equations, are converted into non-linear ordinary differential equations by means of similarity transformation. The resulting non-linear momentum differential equation is solved exactly. The energy equation in the presence of viscous dissipation (or frictional heating), internal heat generation or absorption, and radiation is a differential equation with variable coefficients, which is transformed to a confluent hypergeometric differential equation using a new variable and using the Rosseland approximation for the radiation. The governing differential equations are solved analytically and the effects of various parameters on velocity profiles, skin friction coefficient, temperature profile and wall heat transfer are presented graphically. The results have possible technological applications in liquid-based systems involving stretchable materials.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the unsteady coupled heat and mass transfer of two-dimensional MHD fluid over a moving oscillatory stretching surface with Soret and Dufour effects. Viscous dissipation effects are adopted in the energy equation. A uniform magnetic field is applied vertically to the flow direction. The governing equations are reduced to non-linear coupled partial differential equations and solved by means of homotopy analysis method (HAM). The effects of some physical parameters such as magnetic parameter, Dufour number, Soret number, the Prandtl num- ber and the ratio of the oscillation frequency of the sheet to its stretching rate on the flow and heat transfer characteristics are illustrated and analyzed.  相似文献

The aim of the present paper is to study flow and heat transfer characteristics of a viscous Casson thin film flow over an unsteady stretching sheet subject to variable heat flux in the presence of slip velocity condition and viscous dissipation. The governing equations are partial differential equations. They are reduced to a set of highly nonlinear ordinary differential equations by suitable similarity transformations. The resulting similarity equations are solved numerically with a shooting method. Comparisons with previous works are made, and the results are found to be in excellent agreement. In the present work, the effects of the unsteadiness parameter, the Casson parameter, the Eckert number, the slip velocity parameter, and the Prandtl number on flow and heat transfer characteristics are discussed. Also, the local skin-friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number at the stretching sheet are computed and discussed.  相似文献

The proposed method is based on replacement of the unknown function by a truncated series of the shifted Legendre polynomial expansion. An approximate formula of the integer derivative is introduced. Special attention is given to study the convergence analysis and derive an upper bound of the error for the presented approximate formula. The introduced method converts the proposed equation by means of collocation points to a system of algebraic equations with shifted Legendre coefficients. Thus, after solving this system of equations, the shifted Legendre coefficients are obtained. This efficient numerical method is used to solve the system of ordinary differential equations which describe the thin film flow and heat transfer with the effects of the thermal radiation, magnetic field, and slip velocity.  相似文献

An analysis is performed for the unsteady mixed convection flow of an incompressible viscous fluid about a stagnation point on a stretching sheet in the presence of a variable free stream. The equations of motion and energy are transformed into the ordinary differential equations by using similarity transformations. Homotopy analysis method is used for the solution of the governing problem. The results have been discussed by plots. The present values of the function are shown very close to the previous limiting solutions. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This paper deals with the study of boundary layer flow and heat transfer of a visco-elastic fluid immersed in a porous medium over a non-isothermal stretching sheet. The fluid viscosity is assumed to vary as a function of temperature. The presence of variable viscosity of the fluid leads to the coupling and the non-linearity in the boundary value problem. A numerical shooting algorithm for two unknown initial conditions with fourth-order Runge-Kutta integration scheme has been used to solve the coupled non-linear boundary value problem. An analysis has been carried out for two different cases namely (1) prescribed surface temperature (PST), and (2) prescribed heat flux (PHF), to get the effect of fluid viscosity, permeability parameter and visco-elastic parameter for various situations. The important finding of our study is that the effect of fluid viscosity parameter is to decrease the wall temperature profile significantly when flow is through a porous medium. Further, the effect of permeability parameter is to decrease the skin friction on the sheet.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with two-dimensional stagnation-point steady flow of an incompressible viscous fluid towards a stretching sheet whose velocity is proportional to the distance from the slit. The governing system of partial differential equations is first transformed into a system of dimensionless ordinary differential equations. Analytical solutions of the velocity distribution and dimensionless temperature profiles are obtained for different ratios of free stream velocity and stretching velocity, Prandtl number, Eckert number and dimensionality index in series forms using homotopy analysis method(HAM). It is shown that a boundary layer is formed when the free stream velocity exceeds the stretching velocity, and an inverted boundary layer is formed when the free stream velocity is less than the stretching velocity. Graphs are presented to show the effects of different parameters.  相似文献
