A new kind of two channel‐cut crystals X‐ray monochromator in dispersive (+,?,?,+) position which spatially separates harmonics is proposed. The diffracting surfaces are oriented so that the diffraction is inclined. Owing to refraction the diffracted beam is sagittally deviated. The deviation depends on wavelength and is much higher for the first harmonics than for higher harmonics. This leads to spatial harmonics separation. The idea is supported by ray‐tracing simulation.  相似文献

It is shown theoretically that the asymmetric or inclined double‐crystal X‐ray monochromator may be used for X‐ray pulse compression if the pulse is properly chirped. By adjusting the mutual distance of the two asymmetric or inclined crystals it should be possible to achieve even a sub‐femtosecond compression of a chirped free‐electron laser pulse. The small d‐spacing of the crystal enables a more compact scheme compared with the currently used grating compression scheme. The asymmetric cut of the crystal enables the acceptance of a larger bandwidth. The inclined cut has larger tunability.  相似文献

Polychromatic synchrotron undulator X‐ray sources are useful for ultrafast single‐crystal diffraction under shock compression. Here, simulations of X‐ray diffraction of shock‐compressed single‐crystal tantalum with realistic undulator sources are reported, based on large‐scale molecular dynamics simulations. Purely elastic deformation, elastic–plastic two‐wave structure, and severe plastic deformation under different impact velocities are explored, as well as an edge release case. Transmission‐mode diffraction simulations consider crystallographic orientation, loading direction, incident beam direction, X‐ray spectrum bandwidth and realistic detector size. Diffraction patterns and reciprocal space nodes are obtained from atomic configurations for different loading (elastic and plastic) and detection conditions, and interpretation of the diffraction patterns is discussed.  相似文献

The development of a sagittally focusing double‐multilayer monochromator is reported, which produces a spatially extended wide‐bandpass X‐ray beam from an intense synchrotron bending‐magnet source at the Advanced Photon Source, for ultrafast X‐ray radiography and tomography applications. This monochromator consists of two W/B4C multilayers with a 25 Å period coated on Si single‐crystal substrates. The second multilayer is mounted on a sagittally focusing bender, which can dynamically change the bending radius of the multilayer in order to condense and focus the beam to various points along the beamline. With this new apparatus, it becomes possible to adjust the X‐ray beam size to best match the area detector size and the object size to facilitate more efficient data collection using ultrafast X‐ray radiography and tomography.  相似文献

X‐ray scattering from a liquid using the spectrum from the undulator fundamental is examined as a function of the bandwidth of the spectrum. The synchrotron‐generated X‐ray spectrum from an undulator is `pink', i.e. quasi‐monochromatic but having a saw‐tooth‐shaped spectrum with a bandwidth from 1 to 15%. It is shown that features in S(q) are slightly shifted and dampened compared with strictly monochromatic data. In return, the gain in intensity is 250–500 which makes pink beams very important for time‐resolved experiments. The undulator spectrum is described by a single exponential with a low‐energy tail. The tail shifts features in the scattering function towards high angles and generates a small reduction in amplitude. The theoretical conclusions are compared with experiments. The r‐resolved Fourier transformed signals are discussed next. Passing from q‐ to r‐space requires a sin‐Fourier transform. The Warren convergence factor is introduced in this calculation to suppress oscillatory artifacts from the finite qM in the data. It is shown that the deformation of r‐resolved signals from the pink spectrum is small compared with that due to the Warren factor. The q‐resolved and the r‐resolved pink signals thus behave very differently.  相似文献

The possibility of splitting a thin (e.g. undulator) X‐ray beam based on diffraction–refraction effects is discussed. The beam is diffracted from a crystal whose diffracting surface has the shape of a roof with the ridge lying in the plane of diffraction. The crystal is cut asymmetrically. One half of the beam impinges on the left‐hand part of the roof and the other half impinges on the right‐hand side of the roof. Owing to refraction the left part of the beam is deviated to the left whereas the right part is deviated to the right. The device proposed consists of two channel‐cut crystals with roof‐like diffraction surfaces; the crystals are set in a dispersive position. The separation of the beams after splitting is calculated at a distance of 10 m from the crystals for various asymmetry and inclination angles. It is shown that such a splitting may be utilized for long beamlines. Advantages and disadvantages of this method are discussed.  相似文献

The design and performance of a novel ultra‐high‐vacuum‐compatible artificial channel‐cut monochromator that has been commissioned at undulator beamline 8‐ID‐I at the Advanced Photon Source are presented. Details of the mechanical and optical design, control system implementation and performance of the new device are given. The monochromator was designed to meet the challenging stability and optical requirements of the X‐ray photon correlation spectroscopy program hosted at this beamline. In particular, the device incorporates a novel in‐vacuum sine‐bar drive mechanism for the combined pitch motion of the two crystals and a flexure‐based high‐stiffness weak‐link mechanism for fine‐tuning the pitch and roll of the second crystal relative to the first crystal. The monochromator delivers an exceptionally uniform and stable beam and thereby improved brilliance preservation.  相似文献

Focusing planar refractive mosaic lenses based on triangular prism microstructures have been used as an alternative approach for wide‐bandpass monochromatization of high‐energy X‐rays. The strong energy dependence of the refractive index of the lens material leads to an analogous energy dependence of the focal length of the lens. The refractive mosaic lens, in comparison with the refractive lens of continuous parabolic profile, is characterized by a higher aperture because of reduced passive material. In combination with a well defined pinhole aperture in the focal plane, the transmittance of photons of an appropriate energy can be relatively high and photons of deviating energy can be efficiently suppressed. The photon energy can be tuned by translating the pinhole along the optical axis, and the bandwidth changed by selecting appropriate pinhole aperture and beam stop. This method of monochromatization was realised at the ANKA FLUO beamline using a mosaic lens together with a 20 µm pinhole and beam stop. An energy resolution of 2.0% at 16 keV has been achieved.  相似文献

The development of medium‐energy inelastic X‐ray scattering optics with meV and sub‐meV resolution has attracted considerable efforts in recent years. Meanwhile, there are also concerns or debates about the fundamental and feasibility of the involved schemes. Here the central optical component, the back‐reflection angular‐dispersion monochromator or analyzer, is analyzed. The results show that the multiple‐beam diffraction effect together with transmission‐induced absorption can noticeably reduce the diffraction efficiency, although it may not be a fatal threat. In order to improve the efficiency, a simple four‐bounce analyzer is proposed that completely avoids these two adverse effects. The new scheme is illustrated to be a feasible alternative approach for developing meV‐ to sub‐meV‐resolution inelastic X‐ray scattering spectroscopy.  相似文献

Owing to its extreme sensitivity, quantitative mapping of elemental distributions via X‐ray fluorescence microscopy (XFM) has become a key microanalytical technique. The recent realisation of scanning X‐ray diffraction microscopy (SXDM) meanwhile provides an avenue for quantitative super‐resolved ultra‐structural visualization. The similarity of their experimental geometries indicates excellent prospects for simultaneous acquisition. Here, in both step‐ and fly‐scanning modes, robust, simultaneous XFM‐SXDM is demonstrated.  相似文献

The resonant scattering and diffraction beamline P09 at PETRA III at DESY is equipped with a 14 T vertical field split‐pair magnet. A helium‐3 refrigerator is available that can be fitted inside the magnet's variable‐temperature insert. Here the results of a series of experiments aimed at determining the beam conditions permitting operations with the He‐3 insert are presented. By measuring the tetragonal‐to‐orthorhombic phase transition occurring at 2.1 K in the Jahn–Teller compound TmVO4, it is found that the photon flux at P09 must be attenuated down to 1.5 × 109 photons s?1 for the sample to remain at temperatures below 800 mK. Despite such a reduction of the incident flux and the subsequent use of a Cu(111) analyzer, the resonant X‐ray magnetic scattering signal at the Tm LIII absorption edge associated with the spin‐density wave in TmNi2B2C below 1.5 K is intense enough to permit a complete study in magnetic field and at sub‐Kelvin temperatures to be carried out.  相似文献

Fabrication and results of high‐resolution X‐ray topography characterization of diamond single‐crystal plates with large surface area (10 mm × 10 mm) and (111) crystal surface orientation for applications in high‐heat‐load X‐ray crystal optics are reported. The plates were fabricated by laser‐cutting of the (111) facets of diamond crystals grown using high‐pressure high‐temperature methods. The intrinsic crystal quality of a selected 3 mm × 7 mm crystal region of one of the studied samples was found to be suitable for applications in wavefront‐preserving high‐heat‐load crystal optics. Wavefront characterization was performed using sequential X‐ray diffraction topography in the pseudo plane wave configuration and data analysis using rocking‐curve topography. The variations of the rocking‐curve width and peak position measured with a spatial resolution of 13 µm × 13 µm over the selected region were found to be less than 1 µrad.  相似文献

Non‐resonant inelastic X‐ray scattering of core electrons is a prominent tool for studying site‐selective, i.e. momentum‐transfer‐dependent, shallow absorption edges of liquids and samples under extreme conditions. A bottleneck of the analysis of such spectra is the appropriate subtraction of the underlying background owing to valence and core electron excitations. This background exhibits a strong momentum‐transfer dependence ranging from plasmon and particle–hole pair excitations to Compton scattering of core and valence electrons. In this work an algorithm to extract the absorption edges of interest from the superimposed background for a wide range of momentum transfers is presented and discussed for two examples, silicon and the compound silicondioxide.  相似文献

A bent‐crystal spectrometer based on the Rowland circle geometry has been installed and tested on the BM30b/FAME beamline at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility to improve its performances. The energy resolution of the spectrometer allows different kinds of measurements to be performed, including X‐ray absorption spectroscopy, resonant inelastic X‐ray scattering and X‐ray Raman scattering experiments. The simplicity of the experimental device makes it easily implemented on a classical X‐ray absorption beamline. This improvement in the fluorescence detection is of particular importance when the probed element is embedded in a complex and/or heavy matrix, for example in environmental sciences.  相似文献

A method is presented to simplify Bragg coherent X‐ray diffraction imaging studies of complex heterogeneous crystalline materials with a two‐stage screening/imaging process that utilizes polychromatic and monochromatic coherent X‐rays and is compatible with in situ sample environments. Coherent white‐beam diffraction is used to identify an individual crystal particle or grain that displays desired properties within a larger population. A three‐dimensional reciprocal‐space map suitable for diffraction imaging is then measured for the Bragg peak of interest using a monochromatic beam energy scan that requires no sample motion, thus simplifying in situ chamber design. This approach was demonstrated with Au nanoparticles and will enable, for example, individual grains in a polycrystalline material of specific orientation to be selected, then imaged in three dimensions while under load.  相似文献

An X‐ray dynamical diffraction Fraunhofer holographic scheme is proposed. Theoretically it is shown that the reconstruction of the object image by visible light is possible. The spatial and temporal coherence requirements of the incident X‐ray beam are considered. As an example, the hologram recording as well as the reconstruction by visible light of an absolutely absorbing wire are discussed.  相似文献

Transmission X‐ray mirrors have been fabricated from 300–400 nm‐thick low‐stress silicon nitride windows of size 0.6 mm × 85 mm. The windows act as a high‐pass energy filter at grazing incidence in an X‐ray beam for the beam transmitted through the window. The energy cut‐off can be selected by adjusting the incidence angle of the transmission mirror, because the energy cut‐off is a function of the angle of the window with respect to the beam. With the transmission mirror at the target angle of 0.22°, a 0.3 mm × 0.3 mm X‐ray beam was allowed to pass through the mirror with a cut‐off energy of 10 keV at the Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source. The energy cut‐off can be adjusted from 8 to 12 keV at an angle of 0.26° to 0.18°, respectively. The observed mirror transmittance was above 80% for a 300 nm‐thick film.  相似文献

The majority of the beamlines at the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Source Laboratory (LNLS) use radiation produced in the storage‐ring bending magnets and are therefore currently limited in the flux that can be used in the harder part of the X‐ray spectrum (above ~10 keV). A 4 T superconducting multipolar wiggler (SCW) was recently installed at LNLS in order to improve the photon flux above 10 keV and fulfill the demands set by the materials science community. A new multi‐purpose beamline was then installed at the LNLS using the SCW as a photon source. The XDS is a flexible beamline operating in the energy range between 5 and 30 keV, designed to perform experiments using absorption, diffraction and scattering techniques. Most of the work performed at the XDS beamline concentrates on X‐ray absorption spectroscopy at energies above 18 keV and high‐resolution diffraction experiments. More recently, new setups and photon‐hungry experiments such as total X‐ray scattering, X‐ray diffraction under high pressures, resonant X‐ray emission spectroscopy, among others, have started to become routine at XDS. Here, the XDS beamline characteristics, performance and a few new experimental possibilities are described.  相似文献

The coherent X‐ray scattering beamline at the 9C port of the upgraded Pohang Light Source (PLS‐II) at Pohang Accelerator Laboratory in Korea is introduced. This beamline provides X‐rays of 5–20 keV, and targets coherent X‐ray experiments such as coherent diffraction imaging and X‐ray photon correlation spectroscopy.
