Kazhdan-Lusztig Polynomials for 321-Hexagon-Avoiding Permutations

In (Deodhar, Geom. Dedicata, 36(1) (1990), 95–119), Deodhar proposes a combinatorial framework for determining the Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials P _x , _w in the case where W is any Coxeter group. We explicitly describe the combinatorics in the case where (the symmetric group on n letters) and the permutation w is 321-hexagon-avoiding. Our formula can be expressed in terms of a simple statistic on all subexpressions of any fixed reduced expression for w. As a consequence of our results on Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials, we show that the Poincaré polynomial of the intersection cohomology of the Schubert variety corresponding to w is (1+q) ^l(w) if and only if w is 321-hexagon-avoiding. We also give a sufficient condition for the Schubert variety X _w to have a small resolution. We conclude with a simple method for completely determining the singular locus of X _w when w is 321-hexagon-avoiding. The results extend easily to those Weyl groups whose Coxeter graphs have no branch points (B C _n , F ₄, G ₂).

Some Kazhdan-Lusztig Coefficients of Affine Weyl Group of Type (B)2

Let (W,S) be the affine Weyl group of type (B)2,on which we consider the length function e from W to N and the Bruhat order ≤.For y ＜ w in W,let μ(y,w) be the coefficient of q1/2(e(w)-e(y)-1) in Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomial Py,w ∈ Z[q].We determine some μ(y,w) for y ∈ c0 and w ∈ c2,where c0 is the lowest two-sided cell of (B)2 and c2 is the higher one.Furthermore,we get some consequences using left or right strings and some properties of leading coefficients.

Upper Bounds in Affine Weyl Groups under the Weak Order

Björner and Wachs proved that under the weak order every quotient of a Coxeter group is a meet semi-lattice, and in the finite case is a lattice. In this paper, we examine the case of an affine Weyl group W with corresponding finite Weyl group W ₀. In particular, we show that the quotient of W by W ₀ is a lattice and that up to isomorphism this is the only quotient of W which is a lattice. We also determine that the question of which pairs of elements of W have upper bounds can be reduced to the analogous question within a particular finite subposet.     

Extended Affine Weyl Groups: Presentation by Conjugation via Integral Collection

We give several necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of the presentation by conjugation for a non-simply laced extended affine Weyl group. We invent a computational tool by which one can determine simply the existence of the presentation by conjugation for an extended affine Weyl group. As an application, we determine the existence of the presentation by conjugation for a large class of extended affine Weyl groups.

A Root System Criterion for Fully Commutative and Short Braid-Avoiding Elements in Affine Weyl Groups

We provide simple characterizations of short-braid avoiding and fully commutative elements in an affine Weyl group W, generalizing results of Fan and Stembridge for finite Weyl groups. Our results rely on the combinatorics of the compatible subsets of the root system of W.     

On the Affine Completeness of Lattice Ordered Groups

Codes from Affine Permutation Groups

It is shown that A(22,10) 50, A(23,10) 76, A(25,10) 166, A(26,10) 270, A(29,10) 1460, and A(28,12) 178, where A(n,d) denotes the maximum cardinality of a binary code of length n and minimum Hamming distance d. The constructed codes are invariant under permutations of some affine (or closely related) permutation group and have been found using computer search.

Affine Groups with Two Self-Paired Orbitals

Abstract

In this paper we describe all known instances of primitive soluble groups of affine type which have a single self-paired nondiagonal orbital. We show how to construct representations of the point stabiliser that are imprimitive, semilinear, subfield, or tensor decomposable. As a corollary we give a constructive proof that there exist groups with arbitrarily large numbers of orbitals, only two of which are self-paired.

Fischer Matrices of the Affine Groups

Let GL_n(q) be the general linear group and let H_n ; V_n(q) · GL_n(q) denote the affine group of V_n(q).
