Subpicosecond pulses at a fixed wavelength produced with a low-Q cavity dye laser pumped by a single, nanosecond laser (Q-switched Nd:YAG) are converted into tunable high-power sub-100 femtosecond pulses by generation, spectral selection, amplification and compression of a supercontinuum. The tunable, chirped, high-energy pulses obtained are compressed with a prism pair. Energies up to 50 J in sub-100 fs pulses were obtained in the 540 to 650 nm range using 40 mJ of the Nd: YAG-laser pumping pulses at 532 nm. The whole sub-100 fs system including the low-Q dye laser uses only one Nd:YAG laser as a pump source.  相似文献

Passively mode-locked ruby-laser pulses are used to generate nearly diffractionlimited picosecond light pulses in a dye cell by longitudinally amplified spontaneous emission. The output pulses are amplified in three longitudinally pumped dye cells, then spectrally filtered with a grating spectrometer and finally reamplified in a fourth dye amplifier in order to generate intense frequency tunable picosecond light pulses.  相似文献

The spectral and temporal processes in broadband pulsed-laser emissions of near-infrared dyes generated from low-Q and short laser cavities have been investigated with a rate equation model extended to a multiwavelength analysis. A very fast spectral evolution is proved, and this leads to the intrinsic presence of a single short pulse on the short-wavelength wing of the broadband IR dye laser spectrum. From the results, the direct generation of picosecond (≈90 ps)infrared dye-laser pulses adjustable in the 700–850 nm spectral range is successfully demonstrated with spectro-temporal selection, in a compact and simple device, using a nitrogen laser (337.1 nm, 8 ns) or a Q-switched ruby laser (694.3 nm, 25 ns) as a pumping source. Hollow cathode discharge excitation of indium is shown to produce laser action at 468.1, 689.2, 1342.8, and 1720nm. The cw468.1 nm and 1720 nm ionic lines are excited by charge exchange effect whereas the 689.2 nm cw ionic line is excited by a radiative cascade. The 1342.8 nm atomic line appears in the afterglow of the pulsed discharge and its population inversion is produced by recombination of the indium ions and the electrons. A distributed feedback dye laser arrangement is described which can generate pulses at the subharmonic wavelengths of the main excimer laser lines (308 nm, 248 nm, 193 nm, etc.). The laser can be pumped with broadband lasers, such as the XeCl* laserpumped dye laser with competing cavities. CW diode pumping and FM mode locking of a Nd: KGW laser   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
We have demonstrated cw diode end pumping of Nd: KGW, a novel solid-state gain medium, with up to 30% conversion efficiency into near-TEM00 (M2 < 1.05) output at = 1.067 µm for a pump level of 2.7 W. The slope efficiency was limited by intracavity reflections to 36%; however, direct comparison to a similar Nd:YAG laser indicates the same intrinsic slope efficiency of 60%. FM mode locking of this laser at 200 MHz has produced 12 ps pulses (compared to 16 ps for Nd: YAG), although an intracavity etalon was required. Considerable reduction in pulse width is possible (the line width limit is 0.5 ps) but different techniques may be necessary. Spatial hole burning was evident in both the 120 GHz free-running spectrum and the etalon-limited mode-locked spectrum.  相似文献

The small-signal gain coefficient and the saturation intensity of a F2 pulsed discharge molecular laser at 157 nm have been measured using two discharge devices in an oscillator-amplifier configuration. The small signal gain coefficient was measured to be 5.2±0.4% cm–1 at 3 atm total pressure and 1.5 cm electrode spacing and 4.1±0.4% cm–1 at 2 atm total pressure and 2 cm electrode spacing while the values of the saturation intensity were 5 MW/cm2 and 4.6 MW/cm2, respectively.  相似文献

We report on the operation of a thallium photodissociation laser with an active medium in the form of a thin layer on a quartz wall. Laser emission has been obtained with layer thicknesses below 100 m. This gas laser seems to be feasible with an active volume as small as 10–1 to 10–2 mm3.  相似文献

Lasing and fluorescence properties of ten dyes covering the spectral range from 400 nm to 800 nm were studied in a silica matrix prepared by the sol-gel technique. The dye-doped sol-gel silica samples fluoresced strongly under laser excitation. Many of the samples were also induced to superradiate. In comparison to dyes in alcohol solvents, significant red-shifting was observed in the sol-gel silica fluorescence spectra. Plausible causes of the red-shift are discussed.  相似文献

A new achromatic distributed feedback dye laser (DFDL) arrangement is described. The experimental conditions for subpicosecond pulse generation with the new device were investigated. For the first time, stable generation of subpicosecond pulses (350 fs) at 616 nm was achieved with a DFDL. The simultaneous spectral and autocorrelation measurements showed that the amplified DFDL pulses are nearly transform limited, having a pulse form close to the sech2 shape.  相似文献

This paper describes the laser performance of an X-ray preionized ten-liter volume, electron-avalanche discharge XeCl system, operated at dc charging voltages of up to 70 kV both with and without X-ray preionization. An output energy of more than 11J uniformly distributed over a (7×10) cm2 spot size was achieved using a multichannel spark-gap as the main discharge switch. The discharge was also successfully operated in the switchless mode, yielding a 4.8 J output energy and a 0.9% efficiency. Rate-equation analysis and experiments on a pulsed dual-wavelength Ti:sapphire laser are reported in the paper. A four-energy-level system with two lower-energy levels is put forward and numerical calculations are given. A simple optical setup with two sub-resonators is constructed, which yields a total energy from dual-wavelength lasers up to 41.8 mJ. The largest tunable range is over 110 nm. Laser characteristics of dual-wavelength pulses are observed. Experimental results are in accord with rate-equation-theory results. The polarization-dependent competition on inversed population with local pumping in two-dimensional (2D) active random media is investigated by simultaneously solving Maxwell’s equations and rate equations of electronic population for both transverse magnetic (TM) and transverse electric (TE) modes. The threshold property of the two polarization states with local pumping is analyzed. Results show that the lasing threshold of TM modes is lower than that of TE ones when the radius of the local pumping region is suitably selected, and the case would be contrary when the selected radius of the local pumping region is excessive.  相似文献

We observed self-focusing and self-defocusing of a TEA CO2 laser pulse in CDF3 vapor under different conditions. The experimental parameters we varied are the pressure inside the interaction cell, the frequency of the laser, the energy and the temporal length of the pulse. We have shown that it is possible to pass from self-focusing to self-defocusing by only increasing the intensity of the laser pulse. We propose a physical model that can explain these experimental results. This model is different from that used to explain the selffocusing of a CO2 laser in SF6.  相似文献
