Bloch spaces on bounded symmetric domains in complex Banach spaces

We give a definition of Bloch space on bounded symmetric domains in arbitrary complex Banach space and prove such function space is a Banach space. The properties such as boundedness, compactness and closed range of composition operators on such Bloch space are studied. Dedicated to Professor Sheng GONG on the occasion of his 75th birthday     

Essential norms of integral operators on spaces of analytic functions

This note aims at investigating the essential norms of integral operators on Banach spaces of analytic functions. We study the essential norm of _Ig$I_g$ on some classical Banach spaces (the Bloch space, BMOA$BMOA$ and the Dirichlet space). The essential norms of the Volterra type operator _Tg$T_g$ on the Bloch space are given by the distance from the logarithmic Bloch function to the little logarithmic Bloch space. The essential norms of the little Hankel operator are also investigated.     

Weighted Bloch spaces which are Banach spaces

Let $\mathcal{B }_\omega $ be a weighted Bloch space on the open unit disc which is a Banach space. In this paper, we study $\mathcal{B }_\omega $ by using four operators, that is, a point derivation, a point evaluation, a composition operator and an integral operator.     

Isometric Equivalence of Certain Operators on Banach Spaces

A pair of operators on a Banach space X are isometrically equivalent if they are intertwined by a surjective isometry of X. We investigate the isometric equivalence problem for pairs of operators on specific types of Banach spaces. We study weighted shifts on symmetric sequence spaces, elementary operators acting on an ideal I of Hilbert space operators, and composition operators on the Bloch space. This last case requires an extension of known results about surjective isometries of the Bloch space.     

Isometric embeddings of compact spaces into Banach spaces

We show the existence of a compact metric space K such that whenever K embeds isometrically into a Banach space Y, then any separable Banach space is linearly isometric to a subspace of Y. We also address the following related question: if a Banach space Y contains an isometric copy of the unit ball or of some special compact subset of a separable Banach space X, does it necessarily contain a subspace isometric to X? We answer positively this question when X is a polyhedral finite-dimensional space, c₀ or ?₁.     

Norm-attaining weighted composition operators on weighted Banach spaces of analytic functions

We investigate weighted composition operators that attain their norm on weighted Banach spaces of holomorphic functions on the unit disc of type H ^∞. Applications for composition operators on weighted Bloch spaces are given.     

On universal Banach spaces of density continuum

We consider the question whether there exists a Banach space X of density continuum such that every Banach space of density at most continuum isomorphically embeds into X (called a universal Banach space of density c). It is well known that ℓ_∞/c ₀ is such a space if we assume the continuum hypothesis. Some additional set-theoretic assumption is indeed needed, as we prove in the main result of this paper that it is consistent with the usual axioms of set-theory that there is no universal Banach space of density c. Thus, the problem of the existence of a universal Banach space of density c is undecidable using the usual axioms of set-theory.     

Ergodic Banach spaces

We show that any Banach space contains a continuum of non-isomorphic subspaces or a minimal subspace. We define an ergodic Banach space X as a space such that E₀ Borel reduces to isomorphism on the set of subspaces of X, and show that every Banach space is either ergodic or contains a subspace with an unconditional basis which is complementably universal for the family of its block-subspaces. We also use our methods to get uniformity results. We show that an unconditional basis of a Banach space, of which every block-subspace is complemented, must be asymptotically c₀ or ?_p, and we deduce some new characterisations of the classical spaces c₀ and ?_p.     

Superposition operators between the Bloch space and Bergman spaces

Using a geometric method, we characterize all entire functions that transform the Bloch space into a Bergman space by superposition in terms of their order and type. We also prove that all superposition operators induced by such entire functions act boundedly. Similar results hold for superpositions from BMOA into Bergman spaces and from the Bloch space into certain weighted Hardy spaces.     

Weighted differentiation composition operators from H and Bloch spaces to nth weighted-type spaces on the unit disk

We characterize the boundedness and compactness of weighted differentiation composition operators from the space of bounded analytic functions, the Bloch space and the little Bloch space to nth weighted-type spaces on the unit disk.     

Remarks on coarse embeddings of metric spaces into uniformly convex Banach spaces

We study the support and convergence conditions for a metric space to be coarsely embeddable into a uniformly convex Banach space. By using ultraproducts we also show that the coarse embeddability of a metric space into a uniformly convex Banach space is determined by its finite subspaces.     

Composition operators on Banach function spaces

We study the boundedness and the compactness of composition operators on some Banach function spaces such as absolutely continuous Banach function spaces on a -finite measure space, Lorentz function spaces on a -finite measure space and rearrangement invariant spaces on a resonant measure space. In addition, we study some properties of the spectra of a composition operator on the general Banach function spaces.

     

Boundedness from below of composition operators on the Bloch spaces

This paper proves that a necessary condition for a composition operator on the Bloch space of the unit disk to be bounded below given by Ghatage, Yan and Zheng is also sufficient. Given furthermore are a sufficient condition and a necessary condition of the boundedness from below for a composition operator on the Bloch space of a unit ball with dimensions bigger than one.     

Norm-attaining composition operators on the Bloch spaces

We prove that every composition operator C? on the Bloch space (modulo constant functions) attains its norm and characterize the norm-attaining composition operators on the little Bloch space (modulo constant functions). We also identify the extremal functions for ‖C?‖ in both cases.     

A strong open mapping theorem for surjections from cones onto Banach spaces

We show that a continuous additive positively homogeneous map from a closed not necessarily proper cone in a Banach space onto a Banach space is an open map precisely when it is surjective. This generalization of the usual Open Mapping Theorem for Banach spaces is then combined with Michael's Selection Theorem to yield the existence of a continuous bounded positively homogeneous right inverse of such a surjective map; a strong version of the usual Open Mapping Theorem is then a special case. As another consequence, an improved version of the analogue of Andô's Theorem for an ordered Banach space is obtained for a Banach space that is, more generally than in Andô's Theorem, a sum of possibly uncountably many closed not necessarily proper cones. Applications are given for a (pre)-ordered Banach space and for various spaces of continuous functions taking values in such a Banach space or, more generally, taking values in an arbitrary Banach space that is a finite sum of closed not necessarily proper cones.     

Atomic decomposition of Hardy spaces and characterization of BMO via Banach function spaces

An atomic decomposition of Hardy spaces by atoms associated with Banach function space is developed. Inspired by these decompositions, a criterion on a general Banach function space is introduced so that the characterization of BMO by using that Banach function space is valid.     

Boundaries for Banach spaces determine weak compactness

A boundary for a real Banach space is a subset of the dual unit sphere with the property that each element of the Banach space attains its norm on an element of that subset. Trivially, the pointwise convergence with respect to such a boundary is coarser than the weak topology on the Banach space. The boundary problem asks whether nevertheless both topologies have the same norm bounded compact sets.The main theorem of this paper states the equivalence of countable and sequential compactness of norm bounded sets with respect to an appropriate topology. This result contains, as a special case, the positive answer to the boundary problem and it carries James’ sup-characterization as a corollary.     

A characterization of conjugate WCG banach spaces

It is proved that a WCG Banach space X is isomorphic to a conjugate Banach space if and only if there exists a closed subspace V of its conjugate space X' with positive characteristic such that X possesses the following summability property with respect to V: For every bounded sequence in X there exists a regular essentially positive summability method A such that the A-means of the sequence are σ(X,V)-convergent in X. This extends a well-known theorem of Nishiura-Waterman [8] and yields an analogous characterization of quasi-reflexive spaces. Conjugate spaces of smooth Banach spaces can also be characterized by the above summability condition.     

Evolution semigroups and time operators on Banach spaces

We present new general methods to obtain shift representation of evolution semigroups defined on Banach spaces. We introduce the notion of time operator associated with a generalized shift on a Banach space and give some conditions under which time operators can be defined on an arbitrary Banach space. We also tackle the problem of scaling of time operators and obtain a general result about the existence of time operators on Banach spaces satisfying some geometric conditions. The last part of the paper contains some examples of explicit constructions of time operators on function spaces.     

On characterizations of isometries on function spaces

The paper gives characterization for an isometric isomorphism on little Bloch space, VMOA and holomorphic Besov space over the unit ball B_n in C~n.
