Wave-vector resolved radio frequency spectroscopy data for an ultracold trapped Fermi gas are reported for several couplings at T(c), and extensively analyzed in terms of a pairing-fluctuation theory. We map the evolution of a strongly interacting Fermi gas from the pseudogap phase into a fully gapped molecular Bose gas as a function of the interaction strength, which is marked by a rapid disappearance of a remnant Fermi surface in the single-particle dispersion. We also show that our theory of a pseudogap phase is consistent with a recent experimental observation as well as with quantum Monte Carlo data of thermodynamic quantities of a unitary Fermi gas above T(c).  相似文献

We formulate a Wilsonian renormalization group theory for the imbalanced Fermi gas. The theory is able to recover quantitatively well-established results in both the weak-coupling and the strong-coupling (unitarity) limits. We determine for the latter case the line of second-order phase transitions of the imbalanced Fermi gas and, in particular, the location of the tricritical point. We obtain good agreement with the recent experiments of Y. Shin et al. [Nature (London) 451, 689 (2008)10.1038/nature06473].  相似文献

We observe dramatic changes in the atomic momentum distribution of a Fermi gas in the crossover region between the BCS theory superconductivity and Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) of molecules. We study the shape of the momentum distribution and the kinetic energy as a function of interaction strength. The momentum distributions are compared to a mean-field crossover theory, and the kinetic energy is compared to theories for the two weakly interacting limits. This measurement provides a unique probe of pairing in a strongly interacting Fermi gas.  相似文献

We investigate the influence of electron-electron interactions on the density of states of a ballistic two-dimensional electron gas. The density of states is determined nonperturbatively by means of path integral techniques allowing for reliable results near the Fermi surface, where perturbation theory breaks down. We find that the density of states is suppressed at the Fermi level to a finite value. This suppression factor grows with decreasing electron density and is weakened by the presence of gates.  相似文献

We predict a direct and observable signature of the superfluid phase in a quantum Fermi gas, in a temperature regime already accessible in current experiments. We apply the theory of resonance superfluidity to a gas confined in a harmonic potential and demonstrate that a significant increase in density will be observed in the vicinity of the trap center.  相似文献

We report the observation of spin segregation, i.e., time-dependent separation of the spin density profiles of two spin states, in a trapped, coherently prepared Fermi gas of 6Li with a magnetically tunable scattering length a12 close to zero. For |a12| approximately = 5 bohr, as the cloud profiles evolve, the measured difference in the densities at the cloud center increases in 200 ms from 0 to approximately = 60% of the initial mean density and changes sign with a12. The data are in disagreement in both amplitude and temporal evolution with a spin-wave theory for a Fermi gas. In contrast, for a Bose gas, an analogous theory has successfully described previous observations of spin segregation. The observed segregated atomic density profiles are far from equilibrium, yet they persist for approximately = 5 s, long compared to the axial trapping period of 6.9 ms. We find the zero crossing in a12=0, where spin segregation ceases, at 527.5+/-0.2 G.  相似文献

We study rf spectroscopy of ultracold Fermi gas by going beyond the linear response in the field-matter interaction. Higher order perturbation theory allows virtual processes and energy conservation beyond the single-particle level. We formulate an effective higher order theory, which agrees quantitatively with experiments on the pairing gap and is consistent with the absence of the mean-field shift in the spin-flip experiment.  相似文献

We develop a time-dependent mean-field theory to investigate the released momentum distribution and the released energy of an ultracold Fermi gas in the BCS-BEC crossover after the scattering length has been set to zero by a fast magnetic-field ramp. For a homogeneous gas we analyze the nonequilibrium dynamics of the system as a function of the interaction strength and of the ramp speed. For a trapped gas the theoretical predictions are compared with experimental results.  相似文献

We propose a mean-field, phenomenological Ginzburg–Landau free energy functional with two competing order parameters for a two-component, spin-polarized Fermi gas. This free energy supports a tricritical point which is different from the conventional one and this change offers a correct understanding of the experimental phase diagram of imbalanced Fermi systems (Shin et al. (2008) [17]). The specific heat also happens to be different than in standard theory.  相似文献

Recently, a homogeneous superfluid state with a single gapless Fermi surface was predicted to be the ground state of an ultracold Fermi gas with spin population imbalance in the regime of molecular Bose-Einstein condensation. We study vortices in this novel state using a symmetry-based effective field theory, which captures the low-energy physics of gapless fermions and superfluid phase fluctuations. This theory is applicable to all spin-imbalanced ultracold Fermi gases in the superfluid regime, regardless of whether the original fermion-pairing interaction is weak or strong. We find a remarkable, unconventional form of the interaction between vortices. The presence of gapless fermions gives rise to a spatially oscillating potential, akin to the RKKY indirect-exchange interaction in non-magnetic metals. We compare the parameters of the effective theory to the experimentally measurable quantities and further discuss the conditions for the verification of the predicted new feature. Our study opens up an interesting question as to the nature of the vortex lattice resulting from the competition between the usual repulsive logarithmic (2D Coulomb) and predominantly attractive fermion-induced interactions.  相似文献

We investigate the effect of slow light propagating in a degenerate atomic Fermi gas. In particular we use slow light with an orbital angular momentum. We present a microscopic theory for the interplay between light and matter and show how the slow light can provide an effective magnetic field acting on the electrically neutral fermions, a direct analogy of the free electron gas in an uniform magnetic field. As an example we illustrate how the corresponding de Haas-van Alphen effect can be seen in a gas of neutral atomic fermions.  相似文献

We review our recent experimental realization and investigation of a spin orbit (SO) coupled Bose Einstein condensate (BEC) and quantum degenerate Fermi gas. By using two counter-propagathlg Ranlan lasers and controlling the different frequency of two R,aman lasers to engineer the atom light interaction, we first study the SO coupling in BEC. Then we study SO coupling in Fermi gas. We, observe the spin dephasing in spin dynamics and momentum distribution asymmetry of the equilibrium state as halhnarks of SO coupling in a Fermi gas. To clearly reveal the, property of SO coupling Fermi gas, we also study the momentmn-resolved radio-frequency spectroscopy which characterizes the energy momentum dispersion and spin composition of the quantum states. We observe the change of errmion surfaces in different helieity branches with different atomic density, which indicates that a Lifshitz transition of the Fermi surface topology change can be found by further cooling the system. At last, we study the momentum-resolved Raman spectroscopy of an ultracoht Fermi gas.  相似文献

Higher-order perturbation-theory corrections to the superfluid transition temperature in a weakly nonideal Fermi gas with repulsion are determined. This involves calculating the contribution of third-and fourth-order diagrams in terms of the gas parameter ap F to the effective interaction which determines the super-fluid transition temperature and also allowing for effects associated with retardation and renormalization of the polar part of the Green’s function. The expressions obtained provide evidence in support of attraction in the effective interaction in the second, third, and fourth orders of perturbation theory. It is shown that the critical temperature is mainly determined by second-and third-order terms of perturbation theory. Calculations are made of the superfluid transition temperature for a gas comprising neutral Fermi particles in a magnetic field. The limits of validity of the theory are analyzed and the possibility of applying the results to dilute solutions of 3He in 4He and neutral-particle Fermi gases in magnetic traps is discussed.  相似文献

We discuss the unitary Fermi gas made of dilute and ultracold atoms with an infinite s-wave inter-atomic scattering length. First we introduce an efficient Thomas–Fermi–von Weizsacker density functional which describes accurately various static properties of the unitary Fermi gas trapped by an external potential. Then, the sound velocity and the collective frequencies of oscillations in a harmonic trap are derived from extended superfluid hydrodynamic equations which are the Euler–Lagrange equations of a Thomas–Fermi–von Weizsacker action functional. Finally, we show that this amazing Fermi gas supports supersonic and subsonic shock waves.  相似文献

We consider a locally interacting Fermi gas in its natural non-equilibrium steady state and prove the Quantum Central Limit Theorem (QCLT) for a large class of observables. A special case of our results concerns finitely many free Fermi gas reservoirs coupled by local interactions. The QCLT for flux observables, together with the Green-Kubo formulas and the Onsager reciprocity relations previously established [JOP4], complete the proof of the Fluctuation-Dissipation Theorem and the development of linear response theory for this class of models. The conductivity of a two-dimensional electron gas in a parallel magnetic field is calculated. We take into account the magnetic-field-induced spin-splitting, which changes the density of states, the Fermi momentum, and the screening behavior of the electron gas. For impurity scattering, we predict a positive magnetoresistance for low electron density and a negative magnetoresistance for high electron density. The theory is in qualitative agreement with recent experimental results found for Si inversion layers and Si quantum wells.  相似文献

The dynamic Hartree-Fock theory with point-like interaction is used to calculate the speed of sound and damping factor of a zero-sound wave propagating in a degenerate Fermi gas. This wave propagates slower than Fermi velocity. It is shown, that if the interaction is weak and density is small, then the damping of such a wave can be small. A possibility of discovering such waves in ultracold Fermi gases is discussed.  相似文献

In this Letter we study both ground state properties and the superfluid transition temperature of a spin-1/2 Fermi gas across a Feshbach resonance with a synthetic spin-orbit coupling, using the mean-field theory and the exact solution of two-body problem. We show that a strong spin-orbit coupling can significantly enhance the pairing gap for negative scattering length a(s), due to increased density of state at Fermi surface. Strong spin-orbit coupling can also significantly enhance the superfluid transition temperature Tc to a sizable fraction of Fermi temperature when a(s) ≤ 0, while it suppresses Tc slightly for positive a(s). The interaction energy and pair size at resonance are also discussed.  相似文献

We consider the behavior of an ideal quantum Fermi gas in curved space-time. We obtain and analyze the expressions for the densities of the Helmholtz free energy and grand thermodynamic potential in this case. We find the dependence of chemical potential and Fermi energy on the curvature of space-time and compute the explicit expression for the chemical potential of a Fermi gas at high densities and in the low-temperature approximation.  相似文献
