The classical concept of Q-functions associated to symmetric and selfadjoint operators due to M.G. Krein and H. Langer is extended in such a way that the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map in the theory of elliptic differential equations can be interpreted as a generalized Q-function. For couplings of uniformly elliptic second order differential expression on bounded and unbounded domains explicit Krein type formulas for the difference of the resolvents and trace formulas in an H2-framework are obtained.  相似文献

We study pfaffian analogues of immanants, which we call pfaffinants. Our main object is the TL-pfaffinants which are analogues of Rhoades and Skandera's TL-immanants. We show that TL-pfaffinants are positive when applied to planar networks and explain how to decompose products of complementary pfaffians in terms of TL-pfaffinants. We conjecture in addition that TL-pfaffinants have positivity properties related to Schur Q-functions.  相似文献

This paper derives an explicit formula for Branson's Q-curvature in even-dimensional conformal geometry. The ingredients in the formula come from the Poincaré metric in one higher dimension; hence the formula is called holographic. When specialized to the conformally flat case, the holographic formula expresses the Q-curvature as a multiple of the Pfaffian and the divergence of a natural 1-form. The paper also outlines the relation between holographic formulae for Q-curvature and a new theory of conformally covariant families of differential operators due to the second author.  相似文献

New sharp inequalities for the ratios of Bessel functions of consecutive orders are obtained using as main tool the first order difference-differential equations satisfied by these functions; many already known inequalities are also obtainable, and most of them can be either improved or the range of validity extended. It is shown how to generate iteratively upper and lower bounds, which are converging sequences in the case of the I-functions. Few iterations provide simple and effective upper and lower bounds for approximating the ratios Iν(x)/Iν−1(x) and the condition numbers for any x,ν?0; for the ratios Kν(x)/Kν+1(x) the same is possible, but with some restrictions on ν. Using these bounds Turán-type inequalities are established, extending the range of validity of some known inequalities and obtaining new inequalities as well; for instance, it is shown that Kν+1(x)Kν−1(x)/(Kν2(x))<|ν|/(|ν|−1), x>0, ν∉[−1,1] and that the inequality is the best possible; this proves and improves an existing conjecture.  相似文献

We try to understand the poles of L-functions via taking a limit in a trace formula. This technique avoids endoscopic and Kim-Shahidi methods. In particular, we investigate the poles of the Rankin-Selberg L-function. Using analytic number theory techniques to take this limit, we essentially get a new proof of the analyticity of the Rankin-Selberg L-function at s=1. Along the way we discover the convolution operation for Bessel transforms.  相似文献

The transformation formulas of Ramanujan, Hardy, Koshliakov and Ferrar are unified, in the sense that all these formulas come from the same source, namely, a general formula involving an integral of Riemann's Ξ-function. We give proofs of all of these transformation formulas using the theory of Mellin transforms and the residue theorem. Our study includes new extensions of the formulas of Koshliakov and Ferrar through their connection with integrals involving the Riemann Ξ-function.  相似文献

Based on continuous review (rQ) policy, this paper deals with contracts for vendor managed inventory (VMI) program in a system comprising a single vendor and a single retailer. Two business scenarios that are popular in VMI program are “vendor with ownership” and “retailer with ownership”. Taking the system performance in centralized control as benchmark, we define a contract “perfect” if the contract can enable the system to be coordinated and can guarantee the program to be trusted. A revenue sharing contract is designed for vendor with ownership, and a franchising contract is designed for retailer with ownership. Without consideration of order policy and related costs at the vendor site, it is shown that one contract can perform satisfactorily and the other one is a perfect contract. It has been known that the distribution of the discrete cosine transform (DCT) coefficients of most natural images follow a Laplace distribution. However, recent work has shown that the Laplace distribution may not be a good fit for certain type of images and that the Gaussian distribution will be a realistic model in such cases. Assuming this alternative model, we derive a comprehensive collection of formulas for the distribution of the actual DCT coefficient. The corresponding estimation procedures are derived by the method of moments and the method of maximum likelihood. Finally, the superior performance of the derived distributions over the Gaussian model is illustrated. It is expected that this work could serve as a useful reference and lead to improved modeling with respect to image analysis and image coding.  相似文献

Soltuz, The equivalence between the convergences of Ishikawa and Mann iterations for an asymptotically nonexpansive in the intermediate sense and strongly successively pseudocontractive maps, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 289 (2004) 266-278; B.E. Rhoades, S.M. Soltuz, The equivalence between Mann-Ishikawa iterations and multi-step iteration, Nonlinear Anal. 58 (2004) 219-228] by extending to the most general class of the generalized strongly successively Φ-pseudocontractive mappings and hence improve the corresponding results of all the references given in this paper by providing the equivalence of convergence between all of these iteration schemes for any initial points u1, x1 in uniformly smooth Banach spaces.  相似文献
