A new method of measuring optical nonlinearity for resonant nonlinear optical fibers is proposed. A long-period fiber grating (LPG) pair was used to measure the nonlinear refractive index n(2) of a Yb(3+)/Al (3+) codoped optical fiber, which was spliced between the two LPGs, as the fiber was pumped with a laser diode. The nonlinear refractive index of the Yb(3+)/Al (3+) codoped fiber near 1580 nm depended on the pump power. As the pump power increased, the nonlinear refractive index decreased. At launched pump powers of 2-8 mW, the nonlinear refractive index of the Yb(3+)/Al (3+) codoped fiber near 1580 nm was ~7.5x10(-15)m (2)/W .  相似文献

Under strong laser illumination, few-layer graphene exhibits both a transmittance increase due to saturable absorption and a nonlinear phase shift. Here, we unambiguously distinguish these two nonlinear optical effects and identify both real and imaginary parts of the complex nonlinear refractive index of graphene. We show that graphene possesses a giant nonlinear refractive index n(2)?10(-7) cm(2) W(-1), almost 9 orders of magnitude larger than bulk dielectrics. We find that the nonlinear refractive index decreases with increasing excitation flux but slower than the absorption. This suggests that graphene may be a very promising nonlinear medium, paving the way for graphene-based nonlinear photonics.  相似文献

An investigation is made on the optical nonlinear characteristics of MgF2 fihns containing Cu nanoparticles. When the Cu volume fraction is 0.1, at approximately εm + 2εd = 0, the film exhibits a strong thirdorder optical nonlinear refractive coefficient of 1.0×10^-9 cm2/W, a nonlinear refractive index of about -4.0×10^-7 esu, a third-order optical nonlinear response of about 6.8×10^-8s esu, and a figure of merit of about 1.0×10^-11. The result shows that the film may have potential applications in optoelectronic technology.  相似文献

Femtosecond transient absorption pump-probe spectroscopy has been used to study the third- and fifth-order nonlinear susceptibility of UV-grade fused silica. Theoretical simulations support the experimental evidence of interference between the third- and fifth-order contributions to the signal. Approximate values of the second-order nonlinear refractive index n(4) and of the three-photon absorption coefficient gamma are obtained.  相似文献

The nonlinear refractive index, n2, of sapphire was experimentally measured in the 550-1550-nm wavelength range by use of a picosecond Z-scan technique. It was found that in this spectral region the value of n2 decreases monotonically from approximately 3.3 x 10(-16) to approximately 2.8 x 10(-16) cm2/W. An empirical expression for the wavelength dependence of the nonlinear refractive index in the 270-1550-nm range was obtained.  相似文献

利用射线追踪和福克-普朗克方程,研究了CFETR上驱动电流和功率沉积对低杂波注入位置和耦合波谱的依赖关系,讨论了边界非线性效应对电流驱动与功率沉积的影响,给出了低杂波平行折射率和低杂波注入位置的一个优化值。初步数值计算表明:边界非线性效应会导致驱动电流降低;不考虑低杂波非线性效应时,驱动电流的差异约为6%左右,小于考虑该效应时的差异(~25%)。  相似文献

Thin films of Bi were grown by pulsed laser deposition on glass substrates at room temperature. The thickness and roughness of the films were characterized by grazing-incidence x-ray reflectivity, and the complex refractive indices were measured in the range from 1.5 to 4 eV by spectroscopic ellipsometry. We performed Z-scan measurements to study the third-order optical nonlinearity of the films. It was found that the Bi films exhibited an unusually large nonlinear refractive coefficient, n(I)~1.24x10(-1) cm(2)/kW and nonlinear absorption coefficient, alpha(I)~-3.97 cm/W , at low laser intensity, ~60 kW/cm(2) . This anomaly is believed to have an origin related to melting of the Bi films at the focus spot by the laser beam.  相似文献

The electrostriction contribution to the nonlinear refractive index in optical fiber was theoretically calculated and measured. Nonlinearity was induced directly by insertion of the optical fiber into an intense external electric field. With this technique both the Kerr and the electrostrictive contributions to the intensity dependence of the nonlinear refractive index in a step-index fiber were measured. Good agreement between calculated and measured values was observed. These results should confirm and explain the differences observed in measurement of n(2) at different bit rates.  相似文献

合成了新型偶氮分子偶氮二苯胺ADPA(Azo-diphenylamine),将其掺入聚乙烯咔唑Poly(N-Vinylcarba-zole)(PVK)和聚丙烯丁酯(Poly-butylacrylate)(PBA)的聚合物(PVK-PBA)以及三硝基芴酮2,4,7-trinitro-9-flu-orenone(TNF)聚合制成薄膜器件。结果表明掺杂偶氮苯聚合物薄膜在非共振吸收下具有强的光致取向增强光折变效应。光致折射率变化值Δn达到1.3×10-3以上。样品在两相干光束作用下,可建立光折射率光栅,其衍射效率可超过30%,实现了光全息存储。讨论了影响折射率光栅的因素,并对全息存储相关结果形成的机制进行了分析。  相似文献

Concentration dependence of nonlinear refractive index n2 in fibers heavily doped with GeO2 is studied by using the D-scan method. Good agreement with an empirical dependence established earlier with lower GeO2 concentrations by the cw dual-frequency beat signal technique is shown for GeO2 concentrations up to approximately 100 mol.%. The highest values of the nonlinear coefficient gamma at 1.25 microm of 47.9, 57.7, and 70.9 W(-1) km(-1) were obtained in fibers doped with 67, 75, and 97 mol.% GeO2, respectively.  相似文献

用波长为488nm的氩离子激光与聚乙烯吡咯烷酮(PVP)修饰的PbS纳米微粒水溶胶作用,观察到了样品的自陷、衍射和自散焦现象,样品的折射率为负。测量了自陷阈值功率,计算了样品的非线性折射率n2。样品响应时间为11.86ms,且对488nm波长的光有吸收,说明样品的上述现象主要是由激光热诱导折射率的改变所引起的。  相似文献

The spectral resolved femtosecond pump-probe experiment is applied to measure the third order nonlinear refractive index coefficient, two-photon absorption coefficient of GaP crystal, and the chirp parameter of the input laser pulses. The results show that nonlinear refractive index coefficient is 2× 10-18 m2/W, twophoton absorption coefficient is 2× 10-11 m/W at wavelength of 783.5 nm, and the chirp parameter of laser pulse is l× 1025 s-2. Furthermore, the mechanism of nonlinear refraction due to two-photon absorption in GaP crystal and experimental results are discussed.  相似文献

High-index dielectric nanoantennas excited at Mie-type resonances have exhibited enormous enhancement of optical nonlinearity. Such nanostructures have been actively studied by researchers in recent years. Here, a numerical analysis study of the optical Kerr effect of nanocomposites consisting of high refractive index (GaP) spheres at the wavelength of 532 nm is presented. This is done by means of 3D finite-difference time-domain simulations. The effective nonlinear refractive index of 0.8 µm thick nanocomposites and metasurfaces is evaluated. It is shown that the optical Kerr nonlinearity of the nanocomposites rises by orders in proximity to Mie resonances and may exceed the second-order refractive index of the bulk material. It is revealed that the sign of the effective optical Kerr coefficient is inverted near the Mie resonances. This effect may be of interest in developing nonlinear optical metadevices.  相似文献

采用Z扫描和泵浦-探测技术研究了GaN薄膜在370 nm时的非线性光学效应和非线性光动力学过程。首先,基于GaN薄膜的透射光谱,结合线性光学理论分析得到了其在370 nm的线性折射率n0、线性吸收系数α0、光学带隙Eg等线性光学性质。采用飞秒激光Z扫描技术,得到了不同光强激发下的Z扫描实验响应结果,结合非线性光学理论提取出GaN薄膜可变的光学非线性吸收效应。在激发光子能量接近GaN带隙情况下,低光强时材料表现为饱和吸收而高光强时为反饱和吸收,这是因为低光强下单光子吸收占主导而高光强下以单光子感应自由载流子吸收为主。闭孔Z扫描测量得到了GaN薄膜的三阶非线性折射系数为n2=-(1.0±0.1)×10-3 cm2·GW-1,它几乎比传统非线性介质的高出一个数量级。为了探究上述非线性过程的动力学弛豫时间以及进一步探究GaN薄膜非线性光动力学过程的深层物理机制,采用了交叉偏振飞秒退相泵浦探测技术观察GaN薄膜的光激发载流子动力学弛豫过程。实验结果表明,在低光强下,饱和吸收效应来源于瞬态单光子吸收,高光强下单光子感应自由载流子吸收为非瞬态光动力学过程,其自由载流子弛豫时间约为17 ps。该工作将为GaN薄膜在紫外非线性纳米器件应用以及GaN薄膜非线性过程的机制分析理解提供新的思路。  相似文献

We use liquid-filled capillary fibers with different core diameters to precisely characterize the nonlinear refractive index of the highly nonlinear liquids carbon disulfide, nitrobenzene, and toluene. We present measurements with two different femtosecond pump sources at wavelengths of 1032 and 1560 nm. The large nonlinearity of the liquids results from the retarded nonlinear optical response of the liquid molecules which includes a strong non-instantaneous contribution due to molecular reorientation. The nonlinear refractive index of the liquids is determined by fitting numerical simulations based on solving the generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation including retarded response to the measured broadened output spectra. Our work is important for the novel field of near- and mid-IR supercontinuum generation in liquid-core optical fibers.  相似文献

Nickel oxide (NiO) is found to have several fascinating applications in optoelectronics and spintronic devices. Hence, herein we facilely fabricated the NiO thin films with 0.0, 1.0, 2.5 and 5.0 wt.% Sr doping by low-cost spin coater at RT. The single-phase confirmation of Sr@NiO films was done by X-ray diffraction and FT-Raman analyses. The crystallite size was estimated through Scherrer rule and noted to lie between 13 to 31 nm. The broad Raman peaks indicate low dimension nanostructured films formation. Sr doping in NiO was detected by EDX spectra and its homogeneity in final film by SEM e-mapping. AFM analysis revealed nano-spherical grains in all films. The grown films were tested for optical transparency and noticed that the films are transparent viz. ~ 45 to 65% over 500 to 1400 nm wavelength region. The direct energy gap and refractive index was determined and lies between 3.74 to 3.84 eV and 1.6 and 2.2 in the visible, correspondingly. The values of dielectric constant were calculated in range from 2 to 60. The linear, third order nonlinear and nonlinear refractive index values are noted to be enhanced by Sr content in energy range from 1 to 4 eV. The enhanced energy gap and nonlinear activities signify the importance of the grown Sr@NiO films for optoelectronics.  相似文献

采用Nd:YAG皮秒锁模脉冲激光λ=532.0nm,运用3D前向简并四波混频(DFWM)的方法,测量了稠环芳烃中的1.2.5.6二苯并蒽(C22H14),1.2.8.9.二苯并五苯(C30H18)的三阶非线性极化率X^(3),非线性折射系数n2以及三阶非线性的时间响应。发现该类材料具有较大的非线性效应,文中分析了非线性形成机制以及相关的影响因素。  相似文献

We report a universal approach based on the surface plasmon resonances(SPRs) attained in filamentation in water doped with gold nanoparticles for enhancing the nonlinear refractive index. The filament-induced supercontinuum spectrum in water overlaps with SPRs of gold nanospheres, which further leads to a modification on the Kerr nonlinear refractive index. In our experiment, the measured nonlinear refractive index(n_2) in water doped with gold nanoparticles increases by six times, as compared with that in pure water. Such enhancement may be useful for filament-induced nonlinear applications with modest incident intensity.  相似文献

The third-order nonlinear optical response of Au nanocrystals embedded in BaTiO(3) and ZrO(2) matrices was investigated through the off-resonance femtosecond optical Kerr effect. Compared with pristine films, the nonlinearity of composite films shows an enhancement that depends on the sizes of Au particles and the refractive index of the matrices. We performed a calculation based on Lorenz-Mie scattering theory to explain the experimental results. Additionally, the nonlinearity was optimized by determination of the values of the particle size and the refractive index of the matrix.  相似文献
