In this paper, we shall prove the coarse Baum-Connes conjecture for metric spaces with Lipschitz good covers. This class of metric spaces includes trees and simply connected nonpositively curved manifolds.Supported by DMS8505550 through a MSRI Postdoctoral Fellowship.  相似文献

The C0 coarse structure on a metric space is a refinement of the bounded structure and is closely related to the topology of the space. In this paper we will prove the C0 version of the coarse Baum–Connes conjecture and show that K*(C*X0) is a topological invariant for a broad class of metric spaces. Using this result we construct a ‘geometric’ obstruction group to the coarse Baum–Connes conjecture for the bounded coarse structure. We then show under the assumption of finite asymptotic dimension that the obstructions vanish, and hence we obtain a new proof of the coarse Baum–Connes conjecture in this context.  相似文献

We introduce a localization algebra to define a local index mapo from K-homology to the K-theory of the localization algebra. we show that the local index map is an isomorphism. We apply this result to study the coarse Baum-Connes conjecture.  相似文献

The paper is devoted to the study of the KK-theory of Bruhat-Tits buildings. We develop a theory which is analogous to the corresponding theory for manifolds of nonpositive sectional curvature. We construct a C *-algebra and a Dirac element associated to any simplicial complex. In the case of buildings, we construct, moreover, a dual Dirac element and compute its KK-products with the Dirac element. As a consequence, we prove the Novikov conjecture for discrete subgroups of linear adelic groups. In our study, we develop a KK-theoretic Poincaré duality for non-Hausdorff manifolds.Dedicated to Alexander Grothendieck on his sixtieth birthday  相似文献

In this paper we develop a K-theory of log schemes by using vector bundles on the Ket site. Then, for a wide class of log varieties, we describe the structure of their K-groups in terms of the usual algebraic K-groups.  相似文献

In a recent paper, two of the authors used polarities in PG(2d−1,p) (p?2 prime, d?2) to construct non-geometric designs having the same parameters and the same p-rank as the geometric design PGd(2d,p) having as blocks the d-subspaces in the projective space PG(2d,p), hence providing the first known infinite family of examples where projective geometry designs are not characterized by their p-rank, as it is the case in all known proven cases of Hamada's conjecture. In this paper, the construction based on polarities is extended to produce designs having the same parameters, intersection numbers, and 2-rank as the geometric design AGd+1(2d+1,2) of the (d+1)-subspaces in the binary affine geometry AG(2d+1,2). These designs generalize one of the four non-geometric self-orthogonal 3-(32,8,7) designs of 2-rank 16 (V.D. Tonchev, 1986 [12]), and provide the only known infinite family of examples where affine geometry designs are not characterized by their rank.  相似文献

We introduce a topological-type invariant for a cocompact properly discontinuous action of a discrete group on a Riemannian manifold generalizing classical notions of Reidemeister torsion. It takes values in the weak algebraic K-theory of the von Neumann algebra of . We give basic tools for its computation like sum and product formulas and calculate it in several cases. It encompasses, for instance, the Alexander polynomial and is related to analytic torsion.  相似文献

The aim of this note is to give a simplified proof of the surjectivity of the natural Milnor–Chow homomorphism between Milnor K-theory and higher Chow groups for essentially smooth (semi-)local k-algebras A with infinite residue fields. It implies the exactness of the Gersten resolution for Milnor K-theory at the generic point. Our method uses the Bloch–Levine moving technique and some properties of the Milnor K-theory norm for fields. Furthermore we give new applications. We outline a twisted analogue of the Mishchenko–Kasparov approach to prove the Novikov conjecture on the homotopy invariance of the higher signatures. Using our approach, we give a new and simple proof of the homotopy invariance of the higher signatures associated to all cohomology classes of the classifying space that belong to the subring of the cohomology ring of the classifying space that is generated by cohomology classes of degree less than or equal to 2, a result that was first established by Connes and Gromov and Moscovici using other methods. A key new ingredient is the construction of a tautological C* r (, )-bundle and connection, which can be used to construct a C* r (, )-index that lies in the Grothendieck group of C* r (, ), where is a multiplier on the discrete group corresponding to a degree 2 cohomology class. We also utilise a main result of Hilsum and Skandalis to establish our theorem.  相似文献

We discuss and formulate the correct equivariant generalization of the strong Novikov conjecture. This will be the statement that certain G-equivariant higher signatures (living in suitable equivariant K-groups) are invariant under G-maps of manifolds which, nonequivariantly, are homotopy equivalences preserving orientation. We prove this conjecture for manifolds modeled on a complete Riemannian manifold of nonpositive curvature on which G (a compact Lie group) acts by isometries. We also use the theory of harmonic maps to construct (in some cases) G-maps into such model spaces.Dedicated to Alexander GrothendieckPartially supported by NSF Grants DMS 84-00900 and 87-00551.Partially supported by NSF Grant DMS 86-02980, a Presidential Young Investigator Award, and a Sloan Foundation Fellowship.  相似文献

We study in this paper the maximal version of the coarse Baum-Connes assembly map for families of expanding graphs arising from residually finite groups. Unlike for the usual Roe algebra, we show that this assembly map is closely related to the (maximal) Baum-Connes assembly map for the group and is an isomorphism for a class of expanders. We also introduce a quantitative Baum-Connes assembly map and discuss its connections to K-theory of (maximal) Roe algebras.  相似文献

We define an equivariant K 0-theory for Yetter–Drinfeld algebras over a Hopf algebra with an invertible antipode. We then show that this definition can be generalized to all Hopf-module algebras. We show that there exists a pairing, generalizing Connes pairing, between this theory and a suitably defined Hopf algebra equivariant cyclic cohomology theory.  相似文献

For finitely generated groups G and H, we prove that there is a weak equivalence G H (G × H) of ku-algebra spectra, where denotes the “unitary deformation K-theory” functor. Additionally, we give spectral sequences for computing the homotopy groups of G and HG in terms of connective K-theory and homology of spaces of G-representations.  相似文献

Using a combinatorial approach that avoids geometry, this paper studies the structure of KT(G/B), the T-equivariant K-theory of the generalized flag variety G/B. This ring has a natural basis (the double Grothendieck polynomials), where is the structure sheaf of the Schubert variety Xw. For rank two cases we compute the corresponding structure constants of the ring KT(G/B) and, based on this data, make a positivity conjecture for general G which generalizes the theorems of M. Brion (for K(G/B)) and W. Graham (for HT*(G/B)). Let [Xλ]KT(G/B) be the class of the homogeneous line bundle on G/B corresponding to the character of T indexed by λ. For general G we prove “Pieri–Chevalley formulas” for the products , , , and , where λ is dominant. By using the Chern character and comparing lowest degree terms the products which are computed in this paper also give results for the Grothendieck polynomials, double Schubert polynomials, and ordinary Schubert polynomials in, respectively K(G/B), HT*(G/B) and H*(G/B).  相似文献

The coarse geometric Novikov conjecture provides an algorithm to determine when the higher index of an elliptic operator on a noncompact space is nonzero. The purpose of this paper is to prove the coarse geometric Novikov conjecture for spaces which admit a (coarse) uniform embedding into a uniformly convex Banach space.  相似文献
