The qualitative and quantitative compositions of the lipid complex of the epigeal part ofSilene brahuica Boiss. (family Caryophyllaaceae) have been studied. The fatty acid composition of the acyl-containing lipids has been determined. Summary The qualitative and quantitative compositions of the neutral lipids and the fatty-acid composition of the individual classes of neutral lipids isolated from fresh, freeze-dried, and air-dry cells of the algaChlorella vulgaris have been investigated.The presence of natural fatty acid methyl esters in the lipid extract of the fresh and air-dry chlorella cells has been established.It has been shown that the fatty acid methyl ester fraction is enriched with palmitic acid as compared with the triglyceride and free fatty acid fractions.The main unsaturated acids of the chlorella lipids contain the first double bond in the 9 position.Division of Microbiology of the Academy of Sciences of the Uzbek SSR, Tashkent. The yields and fatty acid compositions of the free lipids and lipids weakly and strongly bound to proteins from seeds of cottonplant varieties resistant and susceptible to verticillium wilt have been determined and the changes in these indices in the seeds of the infected plants have been measured. It has been established that the seeds of healthy plants of the two varieties are similar in the qualitative compositions of the lipids and fatty acids but differ with respect the amounts of lipids in them bound with protein in different ways and with respect to the amounts of the individual fatty acids. The lipid complex of the seeds ofHeracleum lehmannianum B. has been studied. The qualitative and quantitative compositions of the neutral lipids and the phospho- and glycolipids, and the fatty acid compositions of the acyl-containing classes of lipids have been determined. It has been shown that the neutral and the polar lipids differ considerably from one another with respect to the level of certain fatty acids. Summary The compositions of the neutral lipids and the fatty-acid compositions ofVerticillium dahliae Kleb. grown in a fermenter with various sources of carbon-containing nutriment have been studied. It has been shown that the capacity of the fungus for synthesizing lipids and the quantitative and qualitative compositions of the neutral lipids and the fatty acids change according to the source of carbon-containing nutriment. Under the conditions of growth of the fungus in a fermenter, in some cases the formation of linolenic acid and of saturated iso acids is observed.It has been established that whenV. dahliae is grown on sucrose, the neutral lipids of the fungus include a chlorine-containing compound. The structures of the oxygenated fatty acids of the lipids ofOnopordum acanthium L. seeds have been studied by the methods of chemical, chromatographic, and spectral analyses. Water-soluble polysaccharides have been isolated from two species ofEremurus — E. lactiflorus andE. luteus — with yields of 13.5% and 20.5%, respectively. They contained mainly glucose and mannose in ratios of 1:5 and 1:3.1. The polysaccharides ofE. lactiflorus were separated from a column of DEAE-cellulose. The yield of neutral fraction was 10.3%. Gel filtration of the polysaccharides on Sephadex G-200 showed their polydispersity. Homogeneous fractions were obtained by fractional precipitation with ethanol. The compositions and amounts of polar lipids in cotton seeds and the products of their processing have been investigated. Six glycolipids have been identified, the main ones being monogalactosyldiglyceride (MGDGs), digalactosyldiglycerides (DGDGs), and sterol glycosides. The neutral and polar lipids of kenaf seeds of the variety Uzbetskii-1574 from the 1983 crop have been studied. The fatty acid compositions of six acyl-containing classes of neutral lipids have been established for the first time. The acids in the sn-2 positions of the triacylglycerols and of the main classes of phospholipids have been determined. The class composition and the total fatty acid composition of the readily- and difficulty-extractable lipids and the amino acid composition of a protein hydrolysate of the dry biomass from the golden-yellow microalgaMonochrysis lutheri have been determined for the first time. It has been established that the difficulty-extractable lipids differ sharply from the readily extractable lipids in the composition of the neutral and glycolipid components and also in that of the fatty acids; 27% of the weight of the fatty acids of the latter is composed of the 20:4 and 20:5 species. The composition of the fruiting body ofPleurotus ostreatus has been studied. The total neutral lipids and phospholipids have been isolated. In the neutral lipids, free fatty acids, triacylglycerols, and sterol and triterpenol esters predominated. The capacity of ten metabolites isolated from the culture liquid and mycelium of the phytopathogenic fungusVerticillium dahliae Kleb. and identified by chemical and spectral methods or of known chemical nature for inducing the synthesis and accumulation of phytoalexins in the cotton plant has been investigated for the first time. It has been established that the maximum inducing capacity among the metabolites investigated in the concentrations tried is possessed by elaidic acid and di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate. A considerable amount of phytoalexins is also induced under the action on the cotton plant of PCL-1 and a substance of carbohydrate nature. In view of the inducing capacity of the lipid component the protein-lipoid-polysaccharide complex we have studied its total lipid and fatty acid compositions. It has been shown that the compositions of the classes of neutral lipids of the protein-lipoid-polysaccharide complex of the mycelium and the culture liquid do not differ fundamentally, while there are certain differences in the qualitative composition and quantitative amounts of fatty acids of the protein-lipoid-poly-saccharide complex and of the culture liquid, with the exception of the C16:0 and C18:0 acids, the amounts of which are approximately the same.V. The lipid and fatty acid compositions of the seeds ofPhlomis oreophilla andPh. regelii (familyLabiatae) have been studied. The lipids ofPh. oreophilla are enriched with linoleic acid and those ofPh. regelii with oleic acid. Laballenic acid is present in the total acids of the triacylglycerides and the free fatty acids of both species, being concentrated in the free acids. The composition of the classes of lipids of the fruit of three morphological forms of the elaeagnusElaeagnus angustifolia L. have been studied. Their compositions were identical. The amounts of the main lipid classes of extracts of the seeds and pericarps, the fatty acid compositions of the acyl-containing classes of lipids, and the compositions of the carbohydrates and sterols have been determined. The fatty oil of the seeds contained linoleic acid, while the main fatty acids of the pericarp extracts were the 16:0, 18:1, and 18:2 acids. The 16:1 acid that is characteristic for sea buckthorn oil was detected in the elaegnus fruit in insignificant amounts. The class of sterols, both in the free and in the esterified states, was represented by -sitosterol. The composition of ethanolic (I) and gasoline (II) extracts of the cultivated microalgaChlorella vulgaris has been studied. With the aid of CC, TLC, qualitative reactions, GLC, and UVS the following classes of compounds have been detected in them. From the neutral lipids: hydrocarbons, carotenoids, traces of sterols and their esters, fatty acid esters, tri- and diacylglycerols, free fatty acids, and chlorophylls; and from the polar lipids: di- and monogalactosylglycerols, phosphatidylethanolamine, lecithin, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylserine, and three sphingosine bases. The polar lipids I and II made up 52.4 and 50.2% of the total, respectively. As compared with extract I, extract II was somewhat enriched with neutral lipids, including provitamins of the A group and vitamins of the F group. Summary In a study of the glyceride and fatty-acid compositions of the neutral lipids ofN. cataria seeds the presence of di- and monoglycerides in the lipids has been established.
