Let ?n be the n-dimensional Euclidean space with O as the origin. Let ∧ be a lattice of determinant 1 such that there is a sphere |X| < R which contains no point of ∧ other than O and has n linearly independent points of ∧ on its boundary. A well known conjecture in the geometry of numbers asserts that any closed sphere in ?n of radius \( \sqrt {n/4}\) contains a point of ∧. This is known to be true for n≤8. Here we prove a more general conjecture of Woods for n = 9 from which this conjecture follows in ?9. Together with a result of McMullen (J. Amer. Math. Soc.18 (2005) 711–734), the long standing conjecture of Minkowski follows for n = 9.  相似文献

Let G be a real algebraic group, HG an algebraic subgroup containing a maximal reductive subgroup of G, and Γ a subgroup of G acting on G/H by left translations. We conjecture that Γ is virtually solvable provided its action on G/H is properly discontinuous and ΓG/H is compact, and we confirm this conjecture when G does not contain simple algebraic subgroups of rank ≥2. If the action of Γ on G/H (which is isomorphic to an affine linear space An) is linear, our conjecture coincides with the Auslander conjecture. We prove the Auslander conjecture for n ≤ 5.  相似文献

In this paper, we focus on the vertex-fault-tolerant cycles embedding on enhanced hypercube, which is an attractive variant of hypercube and is obtained by adding some complementary edges from hypercube. Let F v be the set of faulty vertices in the n-dimensional enhanced hypercube Q n,k (1 ≤ kn?1). When |F v | = 2, we showed that Q n,k ? F v contains a fault-free cycle of every even length from 4 to 2 n ?4 where n (n ≥ 3) and k have the same parity; and contains a fault-free cycle of every even length from 4 to 2 n ? 4, simultaneously, contains a cycle of every odd length from n ? k + 2 to 2 n ? 3 where n(≥ 3) and k have the different parity. Furthermore, when |F v | = f v n ? 2, we proof that there exists the longest fault-free cycle, which is of even length 2 n ? 2f v whether n(n ≥ 3) and k have the same parity or not; and there exists the longest fault-free cycle, which is of odd length 2 n ? 2f v ? 1 in Q n,k ? Let M n(n ≥ 2) be an immersed umbilic-free hypersurface in the (n+1)-dimensional unit sphere S n+1. Then M n is associated with a so-called Möbius metric g, and a Möbius second fundamental form B which are invariants of M nunder the Möbius transformation group of S n+1. In the field of several complex variables, the Greene-Krantz Conjecture, whose consequences would be far reaching, has yet to be proven. The conjecture is as follows: Let D be a smoothly bounded domain in ?n. Suppose there exists {g j} ? Aut(D) such that {g j(z)} accumulates at a boundary point p?D for some zD. Then ?D is of finite type at p. In this paper, we prove the following result, yielding further evidence to the probable veracity of this important conjecture: Let D be a bounded convex domain in ?2 with C 2 boundary. Suppose that there is a sequence {g j} ? Aut(D) such that {g j(z)} accumulates at a boundary point for some point zD. Then if p?D is such an orbit accumulation point, ?D contains no non-trivial analytic variety passing through p.  相似文献

In this paper we present two upper bounds on the length of a shortest closed geodesic on compact Riemannian manifolds. The first upper bound depends on an upper bound on sectional curvature and an upper bound on the volume of the manifold. The second upper bound will be given in terms of a lower bound on sectional curvature, an upper bound on the diameter and a lower bound on the volume.The related questions that will also be studied are the following: given a contractible k-dimensional sphere in M n , how “fast” can this sphere be contracted to a point, if π i (M n )={0} for 1≤i<k. That is, what is the maximal length of the trajectory described by a point of a sphere under an “optimal” homotopy? Also, what is the “size” of the smallest non-contractible k-dimensional sphere in a (k-1)-connected manifold M n providing that M n is not k-connected?  相似文献

Let L be a non-negative self-adjoint operator acting on L2(R n ) satisfying a pointwise Gaussian estimate for its heat kernel. Let w be an A r weight on R n × R n , 1 < r < ∞. In this article we obtain a weighted atomic decomposition for the weighted Hardy space H L,w p (R n ×R n ), 0 < p ≤ 1 associated to L. Some researchers have proved that ádám’s conjecture is wrong. However, under special conditions, it is right. Let Zn be a cyclic group of order n and Cn(S) be the circulant digraph of Zn with respect to S ? Zn\{0}. In the literature, some people have used a spectral method to solve the isomorphism for the circulants of prime-power order. In this paper, we also use the spectral method to characterize the circulants of order paqbwc(where p, q and w are all distinct primes), and to make ádám’s conjecture right.  相似文献

A Laplace series of spherical harmonics Yn(θ, λ) is the most common representation of the gravitational potential for a compact body T in outer space in spherical coordinates r, θ, λ. The Chebyshev norm estimate (the maximum modulus of the function on the sphere) is known for bodies of an irregular structure:〈Yn〉 ≤ Cn–5/2, C = const, n ≥ 1. In this paper, an explicit expression of Yn(θ, λ) for several model bodies is obtained. In all cases (except for one), the estimate 〈Yn〉 holds under the exact exponent 5/2. In one case, where the body T touches the sphere that envelops it,〈Yn〉 decreases much faster, viz.,〈Yn〉 ≤ Cn–5/2pn, C = const, n ≥ 1. The quantity p < 1 equals the distance from the origin of coordinates to the edge of the surface T expressed in enveloping sphere radii. In the general case, the exactness of the exponent 5/2 is confirmed by examples of bodies that more or less resemble real celestial bodies [16, Fig. 6].  相似文献

Gutin and Rafiey (Australas J. Combin. 34 (2006), 17-21) provided an example of an n-partite tournament with exactly n ? m + 1 cycles of length of m for any given m with 4 ≤ mn, and posed the following question. Let 3 ≤ mn and n ≥ 4. Are there strong n-partite tournaments, which are not themselves tournaments, with exactly n ? m + 1 cycles of length m for two values of m? In the same paper, they showed that this question has a negative answer for two values n ? 1 and n. In this paper, we prove that a strong n-partite tournament with exactly two cycles of length n ? 1 must contain some given multipartite tournament as subdigraph. As a corollary, we also show that the above question has a negative answer for two values n ? 1 and any l with 3 ≤ ln and ln ? 1.  相似文献

Order-sharp estimates are established for the best N-term approximations of functions from Nikol’skii–Besov type classes Bpqsm(Tk) with respect to the multiple trigonometric system T(k) in the metric of Lr(Tk) for a number of relations between the parameters s, p, q, r, and m (s = (s1,..., sn) ∈ R+n, 1 ≤ p, q, r ≤ ∞, m = (m1,..., mn) ∈ Nn, k = m1 +... + mn). Let R I (m, n) be the classical domain of type I in ? m×n with 1 ≤ mn. We obtain the optimal estimates of the eigenvalues of the Fréchet derivative Df(\(\mathop Z\limits^ \circ \)) at a smooth boundary fixed point \(\mathop Z\limits^ \circ \)of R I (m, n) for a holomorphic self-mapping f of R I (m, n). We provide a necessary and sufficient condition such that the boundary points of R I (m, n) are smooth, and give some properties of the smooth boundary points of R I (m, n). Our results extend the classical Schwarz lemma at the boundary of the unit disk Δ to R I (m, n), which may be applied to get some optimal estimates in several complex variables.  相似文献

Let K c n be an edge-coloured complete graph on n vertices. Let Δmon(Kc n) denote the largest number of edges of the same colour incident with a vertex of Kc n. A properly coloured cycleis a cycle such that no two adjacent edges have the same colour. In 1976, BollobÁs and Erd?s[6] conjectured that every Kc n with Δmon(Kc n)<?n/2?contains a properly coloured Hamiltonian cycle. In this paper, we show that for any ε>0, there exists an integer n0 such that every Kc n with Δmon(Kc n)<(1/2–ε)n and n≥n0 contains a properly coloured Hamiltonian cycle. This improves a result of Alon and Gutin [1]. Hence, the conjecture of BollobÁs and Erd?s is true asymptotically.  相似文献

Erdoes and Soes conjectured in 1963 that every graph G on n vertices with edge number e(G) 〉 1/2(k - 1)n contains every tree T with k edges as a subgraph. In this paper, we consider a variation of the above conjecture, that is, for n 〉 9/ 2k^2 + 37/2+ 14 and every graph G on n vertices with e(G) 〉 1/2 (k- 1)n, we prove that there exists a graph G' on n vertices having the same degree sequence as G and containing every tree T with k edges as a subgraph.  相似文献

We consider the relative widths dn(Wpr, MWpr, Lp), which characterize the best approximation of the class Wpr in the space Lp by linear subspaces for which (in contrast to Kolmogorov widths) it is additionally required that the approximating functions g should lie in MWpr, i.e., ‖g(r)pM. We establish estimates for the relative widths in the cases of p = 1 and p = ∞; it follows from these estimates that for almost optimal (with error at most Cn?r, where C is an absolute constant) approximations of the class Wpr by linear 2n-dimensional spaces, the norms of the rth derivatives of some approximating functions are not less than cln min(n, r) for large n and r.  相似文献
