We say that a convex set K in ? d strictly separates the set A from the set B if A ? int(K) and B ? cl K = ø. The well-known Theorem of Kirchberger states the following. If A and B are finite sets in ? d with the property that for every T ? A?B of cardinality at most d + 2, there is a half space strictly separating T ? A and T ? B, then there is a half space strictly separating A and B. In short, we say that the strict separation number of the family of half spaces in ? d is d + 2.In this note we investigate the problem of strict separation of two finite sets by the family of positive homothetic (resp., similar) copies of a closed, convex set. We prove Kirchberger-type theorems for the family of positive homothets of planar convex sets and for the family of homothets of certain polyhedral sets. Moreover, we provide examples that show that, for certain convex sets, the family of positive homothets (resp., the family of similar copies) has a large strict separation number, in some cases, infinity. Finally, we examine how our results translate to the setting of non-strict separation.  相似文献

Let be the unit disk of the complex plane. A conformai map of into itself is called hyperbolically convex if the non-Euclidean segment between any two points of also belongs to . In this paper we prove several inequalities that are analogous to inequalities about (Euclidean) convex univalent functions. We show that if ƒ (0) = 0, then Re zf′/f > 1/2. This inequality is the key for the results of this paper. In particular we deduce a three-variable inequality corresponding to that of Ruscheweyh and Sheil-Small. The sharp bound for the Schwarzian derivative remains open.  相似文献

This was proved by Furstenberg, Katznelson and Weiss, by Falconer and Marstrand and by Bourgain in the case where K is the Euclidean ball in any dimension greater than 1. As corollaries we obtain (a) an extension to any dimension of a theorem of Iosevich and Laba regarding distance sets with respect to convex bodies of well-distributed sets in the plane, and also (b) a new proof of a theorem of Iosevich, Katz and Tao about the nonexistence of Fourier spectra for smooth convex bodies with positive curvature.  相似文献

We study the operad of finite labeled tournaments. We describe the structure of suboperads of this operad generated by simple tournaments. We prove that a suboperad generated by a tournament with two vertices (i.e., the operad of finite linearly ordered sets) is isomorphic to the operad of symmetric groups, and a suboperad generated by a simple tournament with more that two vertices is isomorphic to the quotient operad of the free operad with respect to a certain congruence. In this paper we determine all collapsing transformation monoids that contain at least one unary constant operation and whose nonconstant operations are permutations. Furthermore, we find an infinite family of transformation monoids that consist of at least three unary constant operations and some permutations for which the corresponding monoidal intervals are 2-element chains. It is shown that for every subdivision of the d-dimensional Euclidean space, d ≥ 2, into n convex cells, there is a straight line that stabs at least Ω((log n/log log n)1/(d−1)) cells. In other words, if a convex subdivision of d-space has the property that any line stabs at most k cells, then the subdivision has at most exp(O(k d−1 log k)) cells. We describe a representation of any semiregularleft loop by means of asemiregular bipartite involution set or, equivalently, a 1-factorization (i.e., a parallelism) of a bipartite graph, with at least one transitive vertex. In these correspondences,Bol loops are associated on one hand toinvariant regular bipartite involution sets and, on the other hand, totrapezium complete bipartite graphs with parallelism; K-loops (or Bruck loops) are further characterized by a sort of local Pascal configuration in the related graph.
