The special nature of the outer-most water-rich region of theL 2-phase in the ternary system sodium octanoate-octanoic acid-water is evidenced by its somewhat turbid appearance and by the character of its equilibria with adjacent phases. The phase contains aggregated acid sodium octanoate which is dispersed in a very dilute aqueous solution of sodium octanoate. The acid octanoate has the composition 1 NaC82 HC8x H2O and is composed of closely packed amphiphilic units, all with the polar groups in the same direction. This acid soap obviously forms double-layered aggregates with the lipophilic hydrocarbon chains pointing inwards and the polar groups pointing outwards towards the surrounding bulk-water. The phase is formed when octanoic acid is added to theL 1-phase of the system just above the l.a.c.; in this aqueous solution, the acid reacts with dissolved acid octanoate 1 NaC81 HC8x H2O and that results in the formation of the slightly soluble acid soap 1 NaC8 2 HC8x H2O that separates as a new phase, the turbidL 2 phase. On further addition of octanoic acid, the content of the mentioned acid soap increases until the solution phase is transformed into a liquid crystalline lamellarD-phase with the same acid soap composition. This formation of acid soap 1 NaA2 HA on addition of fatty acid to the dilute soap solution just above the l.a.c., has been known for a long time to occur in various systems containing a long-chain sodium soap. However, at suitably low temperatures, the reaction in these systems does not result in separation of the acid soap in the liquid crystalline, but in the solid crystalline state.  相似文献

In the system sodium octanoate-octanoic acid-water an obvious parallel exists between the low-angle X-ray observations in the isotropic liquidL 2-phase and its composition, properties and structure. This parallel does not exist only with respect to the total content of acid sodium octanoates (with stoichiometric compositions 1NaC82HC8x H2O, and 1NaC83 HC8x H2O, where NaC8=sodium octanoate and HC8=octanoic acid) but also with respect to their amphiphilic composition and their water content (the value of x).In the region of 55–70% water, where the structure of the phase closely resembles, in many respects, that of the adjacent liquid crystalline lamellar D-phase, the dependence of of the quasi-Bragg values on concentration parallels that of the Bragg value in the mesophase, in spite of the disorder of aggregates in the isotropic phase. Furthermore, the numerical values of the quasi-Bragg spacings at given concentrations of the acid sodium octanoates are almost of the same sizes as those of the real Bragg spacings in the D-phase. In this region, the quasi-Bragg values give information of the same type about structure as do the real Bragg values in the D-phase; that is, information about the interplanar distances of adjacent double layers of acid soap, separated by intermediate layers of water. At low water contents (up to about 40%) where a direct comparison with a liquid crystalline phase is not possible, the quasi-Bragg values obviously increase in parallel with the molecular volume of the hydrated acid sodium actanoates and thus reflect one of the structural dimensions of these molecules. If one also considers those changes inside the molecules that, according to other observations, are caused by the incorporation of water, the mentioned parallel becomes still more obvious and it may be primarily the length of the hydrated acid soap molecules that is reflected in the quasi-Bragg values. At water contents above 40%, where increased amounts of unbound, bulk-water begin to appear in the phase, this parallel ceases. Above 55% water, where the phase obtains the character of an aqueous solution of hydrated acid sodium octanoates, the quasi-Bragg values are then shown to reflect the thickness of the aggregates of hydrated acid sodium octanoates (1 NaC82 HC8x H2O and 1NaC83 HC8x H2O) together with their intercalated layers of bulk-water.Based upon the comparison of X-ray phenomena with previously obtained experimental evidence, it is possible to draw some conclusions about the structure of theL 2-phase. The most important is that the elongation of hydrated acid sodium actanoate molecules, caused by the incorporation of water up to about 40%, is strongly supported.  相似文献

The effect of representing dielectric properties in terms of the complex polarizability c = – i is examined. Loss curves ( and tan ) are shifted towards higher frequencies, revealing the existence of new relaxations and allowing the clarifications of ones already known. We have calculated the shift ratios (at maximum or tan )/ (at maximum or tan ) from the more conventional empirical equations representing the dielectric behavior. Some examples are given.  相似文献

Two ternary phase diagrams of the cationic perfluorosurfactant diethanolheptadecafluoro-2-undecanolmethylammonium chloride (DEFUMAC) with an anionic perfluorosurfactant lithium perfluorooctanesulfonate (LiFOS) and an anionic hydrocarbon surfactant lithium dodecyl sulfate (LiDS) have been established at 25°C. The total surfactant concentration was less than 20wt%. In a wide mixing region of the LiFOS/DEFUMAC system, a lamellar-type phase,P , was identified by its texture under a polarization microscope and by its x-ray diffraction pattern. Dispersed fragments ofP -phase are present in the dilute solutions in which one surfactant was in excess. The anisotropy of electrical conductivity, flow birefringence, dynamic light scattering, and electric briefringence demonstrate that theP fragments are disk-like with a radius of 0.7 m. The disk-likeP particles are transformed by shear into a spherical aggregate ofL above a critical shear gradient. LiDS/DEFUMAC mixed solution forms dispersed and precipitatedL in the dominant region. Radius and micropolarity of the dispersedL aggregates are decreased as the ratio of LiDS:DEFUMAC approaches 1:1. On the basis of x-ray diffraction measurement the structure of precipitatedL -phase seems to consist of monolayers.  相似文献

The structure-property relationships derived here permit the prediction of both the zero-shear viscosity 0, as well as the shear rate dependent viscosity . Using this molecular modeling it is now possible to predict over the whole concentration range, independently of the molecular weight, polymer concentration and imposed shear rate. However, the widely accepted concept: dilute — concentrated, is insufficient. Moreover it is necessary to take five distinct states of solution into account if the viscous behavior of polymeric liquids is to be described satisfactorily. For non-homogeneous, semi-dilute (moderately concentrated) solutions the slope in the linear region of the flow curve (= must be standardized against the overlap parameterc · []. As with the 0-M-c-relationship, a-M -c- relationship can now be formulated for the complete range of concentration and molecular weight. Furthermore, it is possible to predict the onset of shear induced degradation of polymeric liquids subjected to a laminar velocity field on the basis of molecular modeling. These theoretically obtained results lead to the previously made ad hoc conclusion (Kulicke, Porter [32]) that, experimentally, it is not possible to detect the second Newtonian region.Roman and Italian symbols a exponent of the Mark-Houwink relationship - b exponent of the third term of the 0-M -c relationship - c concentration /g · cm–3 - E number of entanglements per molecule - F(r) connector tension - f function - G i A shear modulus; A indicates that it /Pa has been evaluated by a transient shear flow experiment; i is the shear rate to whichG A refers to - G storage modulus /Pa - G p plateau modulus /Pa - H() relaxation spectrum /Pa - h shift factor (0/r) - K H Huggins constant - K b third constant of the 0-M -c relationship - K constant of the Mark-Houwink relationship - M molecular weight /g · mol–1 - M e molecular weight between two /g · mol–1 entanglement couplings - N number of segments per molecule - n slope in the power-law region of the flow curve - p p-th mode of the relaxation time spectrum - R gas constant /8.314 J·K–1·mol–1 - r direction vector - T temperature /K Greek symbols ß reduced shear rate - shear rate /s–1 - shear viscosity /Pa·s - s solvent viscosity /Pa·s - sp specific viscosity - 0 zero-shear viscosity /Pa·s - apparent viscosity at shear rate - reduced viscosity - viscosity of polymeric liquid in /Pa·s the second Newtonian region - [] intrinsic viscosity/cm3·g–1 - screening length/m - /g·cm –3 density - relaxation time/s - 0 experimentally derived relaxation time/s - angular frequency of oscillation Indices conc concentrated - corr slope corrected - cr critical - deg degradation - e entanglement - exp experimental - mod moderately concentrated/semi-dilute - n number average - p polymer - R Rouse - rep reptation - s solvent - sp specific - theo theoretical - weight average - relaxation time - o experimental or steady state - * critical - ** transition moderately conc. — conc. - + transition dilute — moderately cone. Differential-scanning-calorimetry, freeze-fracture electron microscopy, and31P-NMR spectroscopy were used to study the lyotropic and thermotropic properties of the system dihexadecylphosphatidylcholine/dihexadecylphosphatidic acid/water/ NaOH in dispersion with excess water at pH=14. The phase diagram showed that both phospholipids are demixed nearly completely in the gel phase. The coexistence of theP and theB -phase in the mixtures was pointed out in the freeze-fracture electron micrographs by the ripple structure (P -phase) and by the lamellar structure (B -phase).  相似文献

A close connection exists between the isotropic L2-phase and the liquid crystalline lamellar D-phase. This connection is evidenced both with respect to similar compositions of their acid sodium octanoates and concerning the structure of the phases. The two-phase zone between these phases is very narrow, from 82 % down to about 55 % of water, it then widens slowly to about 40 % and thereafter very rapidly to 22 % of water; below the latter value it remains broad. The border of the L2-phase is in the whole region from 82 % to 22 % of water located at molar ratios between octanoic acid and sodium octanoate of somewhat above 2.0; the border of the D-phase lies at the same values down to a water content of 40 %. The acid octanoate 1 NaC8 2 HC8 x H2O plays thus a considerable role in the phase transition all the way down to a water content of 22 %. As long as free bulk-water exists in both phases the structures in them remain alike; this similarity is greatest as long as the amount of bulk-water is so large that it suffices to form coherent domains. At contents of water below 40 %, that is after the disappearance of the bulk-water and when a decrease in the content of water begins to affect the hydration of the acid octanoates, the structural similarity between the phases disappears rapidly.  相似文献

The diffusion of six azo and five anthraquinone derivatives through nylon 6, poly(ethylene terephthalate) and secondary cellulose acetate films were studied under high hydrostatic pressures of up to 3000 bar and at temperatures 80–130 °C, by analyzing the diffusion profiles yielded in a stacked multiple film, placed in the solution of the diffusant. It was found that the diffusion coefficient,D, of the diffusant decreased with increasing pressure, giving a linear relationship between InD and the pressure, the slope of which gave the activation volume for the diffusion,V . It was revealedV increased linearly with increasing intrinsic molecular volume of the diffusant,V w , the slopes being different between the azo and the anthraquinone derivatives. The ratio ofV toV w (V /V w ) ranged from 0.13 to 0.93, depending in a sensitive manner on the degree of swelling of the polymer matrix which in turn was varied by the solvent. The overall results could be explained in accordance with the formulation,V f, local +V =V w , whereV f, local represents the free volume contribution. It was proposed thatV w is increased by solvation when the solvent is good for the diffusant.  相似文献

Based on the phenomenon of freezing point depression of a solvent byT, experimental evidence is presented to show that the distance between the junction points can be calculated fromT. Direct measurements of the temperature-time-curve of the cooling network and the Differential Scanning Calorimetry offer the determination ofT. Except the mean distances ¯d c in dependence on cross-linking density, swelling degree, and other network parameters, the distribution of the distance between the junction pointsH(dc) can be determined, which allows conclusions on the course of cross-linking reaction. This paper attempts to give experimental evidence of influences of the breadth ofH(dc) on application-relevant properties.  相似文献

The effect of illumination on transport of sulfonated bisazo direct dyes, CI Direct Yellow 12, and CI Direct Yellow 4, into a cellulose membrane has been studied at various temperatures. Transport of CI Direct Yellow 12, which exhibits photoinduced reversible trans-cis isomerism in aqueous solution into a cellulose membrane, was influenced by illumination. It is likely that the transport was influenced by transisomerization of the photoisomeric dye and the diffusivity was controlled by surface diffusion rather than by pore diffusion under both light and dark conditions.Notations C Concentration of dye in the pores (mol/dm3) - C E Concentration of electrolyte in the bulk solution (mol/dm3) - C o Concentration of dye in the bulk solution (mol/dm3) - D p Pore diffusivity (m2/s) - D s Surface diffusivity (m2/s) - [M] Mean concentration of dye in membrane (mol/dm3) - [M] L Local concentration of dye in membrane (=q+ p C) (mol/dm3) - [M] Mean concentration of dye in membrane (mol/kg) - [M] L Local concentration of dye in membrane (=q/V+ p C) (mol/dm3) - F Fractional attainment of equilibrium - l Thickness of membrane (m) - q Concentration of dye adsorbed on pore wall (mol/dm3) - q o Adsorbed concentration of dye in equilibrium withC o (mol/dm3) - q Concentration of dye adsorbed on pore wall (mol/kg) - q o Adsorbed concentration of dye in equilibrium withC o (mol/kg) - t Time (s) - V Volume of membrane swollen with water per unit dry cellulose (dm3/kg) - x C/C o - y q/q o - z Distance that the dye diffused in the membrane (m) - q o / o C o - D s /D p - Coefficient of the Freundlich isotherm - p Pore void fraction - z/l - p D p t/l 2 - s D s t/l 2  相似文献

Two-dimensional magic-angle-spinning (2D-MAS) NMR has been used to measure the orientation parameter, P2, of the diphenylene propane unit in bisphenol-A polycarbonate oriented by stretching to various extension ratios,, atT=295K andT= 403 K.P 2 is proportional to the birefringencen, with a maximum birefringencen 0= 0.189. There is some evidence that the order parameterP 2 of the DPP units with respect to the chain axis deviates from unity.n 0 is therefore expected to be different from the birefringence,n 0 , of perfectly aligned chains of polycarbonate. The experimental results obtained forP 2() are compared to those predicted by the aggregate model.  相似文献

Polymers having phosphoric acid groups were prepared as a model binder for magnetic coatings, and the correlation among the adsorption behavior of the polymers onto-Fe2O3 particles and the dispersibility, the orientation, and the packing density of-Fe2O3 particles in the magnetic coatings was investigated.PMMA homopolymer molecules hardly adsorbed on-Fe2O3, and the interfacial tension at a water/polymer solution (toluene) interface ( W/T) was scarcely changed compared with a water/toluene interface. Increasing with the content of polymeric phosphoric acid group, the adsorbance of polymer increased and the interfacial tension ( W/T) decreased. When the content of polymeric phosphoric acid groups was over 0.4 mol%, the adsorbance of polymer and interfacial tension ( W/T ) remained constant. When these polymers were used as a binder for magnetic tapes, the dispersibility of-Fe2O3 in the magnetic coatings was improved, increasing with the content of polymeric phosphoric acid group; however, when the content of phosphoric acid group was over 0.2 mol%, its dispersibility decreased abruptly.Studies on Recording Magnetic Materials and Magnetic Composite. Ultra-thin films of syndiotactic-rich poly-vinyl alcohol (s-PVA) with several proteins and polysaccharides were prepared by the bubble and frame methods using a mixed dilute aqueous solution (1.5g/dL).The mixed amount of-cyclodextrin (-CD) was the largest among these proteins and polysaccharides giving a weight ratio (-CD/s-PVA) of 1. The ratios of silk fibroin(SF), lysozyme, pepsin, and pectin tos- PVA were 0.58, 0.40, 0.35, and 0.35, respectively. For the-CD/s-PVA and SF/s-PVA blend thin films, the phase separation was observed.  相似文献

The dielectric behavior (, ) of three well-cleaned monodisperse polystyrene latexes having the same particle size and the same number of chemically-bound surface groups has been studied at a fixed microwave frequency (9.4 GHz), as a function of temperature and surface group (SO 4 , COO, OH).A large dielectric relaxation was observed in the sulfate-stabilized latex, which has the most polar surface end-group. The anomalous behavior in the thermal dependence of the hydroxyl and carboxyl-stabilized latexes (the OH latex being more pronounced than the COO latex) may originate from differences in the experimental conditions used for the preparation of such polymer colloids, or due to the presence of ionic species. On the basis of various dielectric models, the apparent volume fractions of the latexes were calculated. The amount of bound water around the latex particle was quantitatively correlated to the polarity of surface end-group (SO 4 > COO > OH). The differences between the calculated and actual values were not only a reflection of the thickness of vicinal water, but could also be indicative of the presence of oligomeric species in the suspension's medium (serum) of the latex. The permittivities of hydrated particle and of bound water were obtained with a non-linear iterative procedure.  相似文献

The electrostatic interaction pressure of charged surface layers is considered qualitatively and quantitatively. In the case of mutual penetration of the surface layers in addition to Maxwell stress and osmotic resp. hydrostatic pressure an isotropic stress on the fixed charges carrying molecules of the surface layers has to be taken into account. The derivation of the pressure-distance equations is given starting from both thermodynamic/electrostatic and hydrostatic/electrostatic principles. A possible biological significance of the additional stress is discussed emphasizing its role in modifying the structure of surface layer molecules.List of symbols e 0 elementary charge - k Boltzmann constant - n i concentration of theith ionic species in the bulk solution - P hydrostatic pressure - P hydrostatic pressure in the bulk volume (× ) - P h integration constant, independent on ×:P h =P(h) - T absolute temperature - Z i electrovalence of theith ionic species - thickness of the surface layer - , 0 relative and absolute permittivities - II(×) osmotic pressure at position × - II osmotic pressure in the bulk solution (× ) - osmotic pressure in the symmetry plane of interacting identical surface layers (electric field strength equals zero) - integration constant, independent on ×: - e h electrostatic component of the disjoining pressure e h = e (h) - (×) mobile charge density profile (cations and anions of the electrolyte) - (×) fixed charge density profile - t(x) total charge density profile ( t = +) - 1(x) fixed charge density profile of one of the two surface layers ( 1(×) 0 for 0×) - (×) electric potential profile  相似文献

The results of X-ray diffraction patterns of homologous thallium soaps TlC n (n-8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20 and 22) in dependence on the temperature showed that the structures of the phases below the temperature range of the liquid-crystalline neat phase (so called phase C1, phase C2, phase I, phase II) are crystalline-like, not liquid-crystalline.As function of the chain length of the fatty acid group, we found the following phase sequences to be a function of temperature: TlC8: phase Ineat phase: TlC9–Tl14: phase C2phase IIphase Ineat phase; TlC15, TlC16: phase C1phase IIphase Ineat phase; TlC17–TlC22: phase C1phase IIneat phase. From the X-ray patterns of the thallium soaps were calculated the lattice parameters and the unit cells of these homologues at various temperatures. The comparison between the lattice parameters of the homologues showed, surprisingly, that these parameters were independent of chain length and temperature. This X-ray data are the basis for the following development of structure models of the phase C1, phase C2, phase I, and phase II, including the neat phase (see Part 2).  相似文献

A theory of adsorption kinetics of solutes onto a solid surface from the solution phase is proposed in which a time delay is introduced into the solute concentration on the surface. Equations governing the adsorption kinetics are similar to those for membrane transport with time delay (Ohshima and Kondo, Biophys. Chem. (1989) 33: 303). It is found that introduction of time delay causes, under certain conditions, overshoot or oscillation in the solute concentrations, both in the solution phase and on the surface. The criterion for oscillation depends on the scaled delay time , the ratio of the possible maximum amount of solutes adsorbed on the surface to the total solute amountR, and the scaled binding constantK. When the number of the binding sites is small, the criterion for oscillation is expressed as >exp(–1), where =(/K) exp().  相似文献

Viscosity measurements were made in the temperature range of 10 °–40 °C. The equation= o exp(B/(T-T o )) was used with the parameterT 0 as structure indicator, which is called the limiting temperature. For instance, hydrocarbons, as liquids with quasifree molecules, haveT 0=O; water as a highly structured liquid hasT 0= 140–150 K.The polymer investigated was ovalbumin in aqueous solution in a concentration comparable to that of blood. Acetylsalicylic acid produces a protein conformation which breaks the water structure in solution at a pH of within the in vivo region. The question of whether only the acidity determines the water structure breaking properties of the protein is investigated by acidifying albumin-water solutions with hydrochloric acid, lysine chloride and ascorbic acid. All these acids exhibit similar effects. A stronger influence is observed for ammonium chloride. Its interaction with ovalbumin produces a strong structure-breaking effect. The most powerful water structure breaker in albumin-water solutions is dextrane. In a concentration of 10 % it changes the polymer conformation so that the water structure is broken to such an extent that the solution behaves as an almost quasifree liquid withT 0=O.  相似文献

The effect of a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, the indomethacin, on the conformation of human serum albumin is investigated by evaluating-helix,-structure and random coil structure contents from optical rotatory dispersion spectra. The observed structural changes may be attributed to the-helix-to--structure conversion, because the content of random coil is not largely changed. The increase in-structure is due to a loss in the degrees of freedom in albumin.  相似文献

Analysis of literature data on the flow of polymeric and oligomeric compositions as well as on systems of low viscous dispersion media containing a high-disperse filler (carbon black, silica, high-disperse chalk) has been carried out. As the basic idea, a proposal is made that their viscosity anomaly is due not to the matrix viscosity anomaly, but to the gradual breakdown of the filler structural skeleton with increasing shear stress and shear rate . The viscosity anomaly of those compositions is determined by the zeroshear but not by the apparent matrix viscosity. A general relationship has been found to describe the flow of such systems depending on the zero-shear matrix viscosity values, 0, their yield stress, y , and filler volume concentration , whereK=4.9 andn=0.69 are constants.  相似文献
