Remarks on Quasilinear Hyperbolic Equations with Dynamic Boundary Conditions

In this paper the non-existence of global solutions of two fourth-order hyperbolic equations with dynamic boundary conditions is considered. Here we prove stronger results than that of M. Kirane, S. Kouachi and N. Tatar by a different method.

Microlocal Analysis and Global Solutions of Some Hyperbolic Equations with Discontinuous Coefficients

We are concerned with analyzing hyperbolic equations with distributional coefficients. We focus on the case of coefficients with jump discontinuities considered earlier by Hurd and Sattinger in their proof of the breakdown of global distributional solutions. Within the framework of Colombeau generalized functions, however, Oberguggenberger showed the existence and uniqueness of a global solution. Within this framework we develop further a microlocal analysis to understand the propagation of singularities of such Colombeau solutions. To achieve this we introduce a refined notion of a wave-front set, extending Hörmander's definition for distributions. We show how the coefficient singularities modify the classical relation of the wave front set of the solution and the characteristic set of the operator, with a generalized notion of characteristic set.     

On the Existence of Positive Solutions of Quasilinear Elliptic Equations with Mixed Boundary Conditions

In this paper, the existence of positive solutions for the mixed boundary problem of quasilinear elliptic equation {-div (|∇u|^{p-2}∇u) = |u|^{p^∗-2}u + f(x, u), \quad u > 0, \quad x ∈ Ω u|_Γ_0 = 0, \frac{∂u}{∂\overrightarrow{n}}|_Γ_1 = 0 is obtained, where Ω is a bounded smooth domain in R^N, ∂Ω = \overrightarrow{Γ}_0 ∪ \overrightarrow{Γ}_1, 2 ≤ p < N, p^∗ = \frac{Np}{N-p}, Γ_0 and Γ_1 are disjoint open subsets of ∂Ω.     

GLOBAL SMOOTH SOLUTIONS OF DISSIPATIVE BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEMS FOR FIRST ORDER QUASILINEAR HYPERBOLIC SYSTEMS

This paper discusses the following initial-boundary value problems for the first orderquasilinear hyperbolic systems:(u)/(t)+A(u)(u)/(x)=0,(1)u~Ⅱ=F(u~Ⅰ),as x=0,(2)u~Ⅰ=G(u~Ⅱ),as x=L,(3)u=u~0(x),as t=0,(4)where the boundary conditions(2),(3)satisfy F(0)=0,G(0)=0 and the dissipativeconditions,that is,the spectral radii of matrices B_1=(F)/(u~Ⅰ)(0)(G)/(u~Ⅱ)(0)and B_2(G)/(u~Ⅱ)(0)(F)/(u~Ⅰ)(0) are less than unit.Under certain assumptions it is proved that the initial-boundary problem (1)—(4)admits a unique global smooth solution u(x,t)and the C~1-norm丨u(t)丨σ~2of u(x,t)decaysexponentially to zero as t→∞,provided that the C~1-norm丨u~0丨σ~1of the initial data issufficiently small.     

Nonexistence of Stable Solutions to Quasilinear Elliptic Equations on Riemannian Manifolds

We prove nonexistence of nontrivial, possibly sign changing, stable solutions to a class of quasilinear elliptic equations with a potential on Riemannian manifolds, under suitable weighted growth conditions on geodesic balls.     

Global Classical Solutions to Partially Dissipative Quasilinear Hyperbolic Systems

The author considers the Cauchy problem for quasilinear inhomogeneous hyperbolic systems. Under the assumption that the system is weakly dissipative, Hanouzet and Natalini established the global existence of smooth solutions for small initial data (in Arch. Rational Mech. Anal., Vol. 169, 2003, pp. 89–117). The aim of this paper is to give a completely different proof of this result with slightly different assumptions.     

Global Exact Boundary Controllability for General First-Order Quasilinear Hyperbolic Systems

For general first-order quasilinear hyperbolic systems, based on the analysis of simple wave solutions along characteristic trajectories, the global two-sided exact boundary controllability is achieved in a relatively short controlling time.

Conditions for the Time Global Existence and Nonexistence of a Compact Support of Solutions to the Cauchy Problem for Quasilinear Degenerate Parabolic Equations

We study a quasilinear degenerate parabolic equation with a nonhomogeneous density. We establish that depending on the behavior of the density at infinity either a solution to the Cauchy problem possesses the property that the speed of propagation of perturbations is finite or the support blows up in finite time.

Almost Global Strong Solutions to Quasilinear Dissipative Evolution Equations

The author proves a global existence result for strong solutions to the quasilinear dissipative hyperbolic equation （1.1） below, corresponding to initial values and source terms of arbitrary size, provided that the hyperbolicity parameter ε is sufficiently small. This implies a corresponding global existence result for the reduced quasilinear parabolic equation （1.4） below.
