In this paper, the multi-variable Hermite matrix polynomials are introduced by algebraic decomposition of exponential operators. Their properties are established using operational methods. The matrix forms of the Chebyshev and truncated polynomials of two variable are also introduced, which are further used to derive certain operational representations and expansion formulae.

ON HERMITE MATRIX POLYNOMIALS AND HERMITE MATRIX FUNCTIONS
In this paper properties of Hermite matrix polynomials and Hermite matrix functions are studied. The concept ot total set with respect to a matrix functional is introduced and the total property of the Hermite matrix polynomials is proved. Asymptotic behaviour of Hermite matrix polynomials is studied and the relationship of Hermite matrix functions with certain matrix differential equations is developed. A new expression of the matrix exponential for a wide class of matrices in terms of Hermite matrix polynomials is proposed.

We give formulas for the conditional expectations of a product of multivariate Hermite polynomials with multivariate normal arguments. These results are extended to include conditional expectations of a product of linear combination of multivariate normals. A unified approach is given that covers both Hermite and modified Hermite polynomials, as well as polynomials associated with a matrix whose eigenvalues may be both positive and negative.

Some families of orthogonal matrix polynomials satisfying second-order differential equations with coefficients independent of n have recently been introduced (see [Internat. Math. Res. Notices 10 (2004) 461–484]). An important difference with the scalar classical families of Jacobi, Laguerre and Hermite, is that these matrix families do not satisfy scalar type Rodrigues’ formulas of the type (ΦnW)(n)W-1, where Φ is a matrix polynomial of degree not bigger than 2. An example of a modified Rodrigues’ formula, well suited to the matrix case, appears in [Internat. Math. Res. Notices 10 (2004) 482].In this note, we discuss some of the reasons why a second order differential equation with coefficients independent of n does not imply, in the matrix case, a scalar type Rodrigues’ formula and show that scalar type Rodrigues’ formulas are most likely not going to play in the matrix valued case the important role they played in the scalar valued case. We also mention the roles of a scalar-type Pearson equation as well as that of a noncommutative version of it.

In this research, by applying the extended Sturm-Liouville theorem for symmetric functions, a basic class of symmetric orthogonal polynomials (BCSOP) with four free parameters is introduced and all its standard properties, such as a generic second order differential equation along with its explicit polynomial solution, a generic orthogonality relation, a generic three term recurrence relation and so on, are presented. Then, it is shown that four main sequences of symmetric orthogonal polynomials can essentially be extracted from the introduced class. They are respectively the generalized ultraspherical polynomials, generalized Hermite polynomials and two other sequences of symmetric polynomials, which are finitely orthogonal on (−∞,∞) and can be expressed in terms of the mentioned class directly. In this way, two half-trigonometric sequences of orthogonal polynomials, as special sub-cases of BCSOP, are also introduced.

We are dealing with the concept of d-dimensional orthogonal (abbreviated d-orthogonal) polynomials, that is to say polynomials verifying one standard recurrence relation of order d + 1. Among the d-orthogonal polynomials one singles out the natural generalizations of certain classical orthogonal polynomials. In particular, we are concerned, in the present paper, with the solution of the following problem (P): Find all polynomial sequences which are at the same time Appell polynomials and d-orthogonal. The resulting polynomials are a natural extension of the Hermite polynomials.

A sequence of these polynomials is obtained. All the elements of its (d + 1)-order recurrence are explicitly determined. A generating function, a (d + 1)-order differential equation satisfied by each polynomial and a characterization of this sequence through a vectorial functional equation are also given. Among such polynomials one singles out the d-symmetrical ones (Definition 1.7) which are the d-orthogonal polynomials analogous to the Hermite classical ones. When d = 1 (ordinary orthogonality), we meet again the classical orthogonal polynomials of Hermite.

An efficient construction of two non-classical families of orthogonal polynomials is presented in the paper. The so-called half-range Chebyshev polynomials of the first and second kinds were first introduced by Huybrechs in Huybrechs (2010) [5]. Some properties of these polynomials are also shown. Every integrable function can be represented as an infinite series of sines and cosines of these polynomials, the so-called half-range Chebyshev-Fourier (HCF) series. The second part of the paper is devoted to the efficient computation of derivatives and multiplication of the truncated HCF series, where two matrices are constructed for this purpose: the differentiation and the multiplication matrix.

ABSTRACT

In recent years, special matrix functions and polynomials of a real or complex variable have been in a focus of increasing attention leading to new and interesting problems. In this work, we present matrix space analogues to generalized some functions and polynomials in the framework of matrix setting. Many of the special matrix functions and polynomials are constructed along standard procedures. Recently published papers are also surveyed and we list the most essential ones.

In this paper we investigate a set of orthogonal polynomials. We relate the polynomials to the Biconfluent Heun equation and present an explicit expression for the polynomials in terms of the classical Hermite polynomials. The orthogonality with a varying measure and the recurrence relation are also presented.

We show that any scalar differential operator with a family of polynomials as its common eigenfunctions leads canonically to a matrix differential operator with the same property. The construction of the corresponding family of matrix valued polynomials has been studied in [A. Durán, A generalization of Favard's theorem for polynomials satisfying a recurrence relation, J. Approx. Theory 74 (1993) 83-109; A. Durán, On orthogonal polynomials with respect to a positive definite matrix of measures, Canad. J. Math. 47 (1995) 88-112; A. Durán, W. van Assche, Orthogonal matrix polynomials and higher order recurrence relations, Linear Algebra Appl. 219 (1995) 261-280] but the existence of a differential operator having them as common eigenfunctions had not been considered. This correspondence goes only one way and most matrix valued situations do not arise in this fashion. We illustrate this general construction with a few examples. In the case of some families of scalar valued polynomials introduced in [F.A. Grünbaum, L. Haine, Bispectral Darboux transformations: An extension of the Krall polynomials, Int. Math. Res. Not. 8 (1997) 359-392] we take a first look at the algebra of all matrix differential operators that share these common eigenfunctions and uncover a number of phenomena that are new to the matrix valued case.

In this paper, we use operational rules associated with three operators corresponding to a generalized Hermite polynomials introduced by Szegö to derive, as far as we know, new proofs of some known properties as well as new expansions formulae related to these polynomials.

In this paper, sharp upper limit for the zeros of the ultraspherical polynomials are obtained via a result of Obrechkoff and certain explicit connection coefficients for these polynomials. As a consequence, sharp bounds for the zeros of the Hermite polynomials are obtained.

In this study, a Hermite matrix method is presented to solve high‐order linear Fredholm integro‐differential equations with variable coefficients under the mixed conditions in terms of the Hermite polynomials. The proposed method converts the equation and its conditions to matrix equations, which correspond to a system of linear algebraic equations with unknown Hermite coefficients, by means of collocation points on a finite interval. Then, by solving the matrix equation, the Hermite coefficients and the polynomial approach are obtained. Also, examples that illustrate the pertinent features of the method are presented; the accuracy of the solutions and the error analysis are performed. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper a modification of the method proposed in [E. Defez, L. Jódar, Some applications of Hermite matrix polynomials series expansions, Journal of Computational and Applied Mathematics 99 (1998) 105–117] for computing matrix sine and cosine based on Hermite matrix polynomial expansions is presented. An algorithm and illustrative examples demonstrate the performance of the new proposed method.

The Al–Salam & Carlitz polynomials are q–generalizations of the classical Hermite polynomials. Multivariable generalizations of these polynomials are introduced via a generating function involving a multivariable hypergeometric function which is the q–analogue of the type–A Dunkl integral kernel. An eigenoperator is established for these polynomials and this is used to prove orthogonality with respect to a certain Jackson integral inner product. This inner product is normalized by deriving a q–analogue of the Mehta integral, and the corresponding normalization of the multivariable Al–Salam & Carlitz polynomials is derived from a Pieri–type formula. Various other special properties of the polynomials are also presented, including their relationship to the shifted Macdonald polynomials and the big–q Jacobi polynomials.

We study Wronskians of Hermite polynomials labeled by partitions and use the combinatorial concepts of cores and quotients to derive explicit expressions for their coefficients. These coefficients can be expressed in terms of the characters of irreducible representations of the symmetric group, and also in terms of hook lengths. Further, we derive the asymptotic behavior of the Wronskian Hermite polynomials when the length of the core tends to infinity, while fixing the quotient. Via this combinatorial setting, we obtain in a natural way the generalization of the correspondence between Hermite and Laguerre polynomials to Wronskian Hermite polynomials and Wronskians involving Laguerre polynomials. Lastly, we generalize most of our results to polynomials that have zeros on the p-star.

The main object of this paper is to investigate several general families of hypergeometric polynomials and their associated single-, double-, and triple-integral representations. Some known or new consequences of the general results presented here, involving such classical orthogonal polynomials as the Jacobi, Laguerre, Hermite, and Bessel polynomials, and various other relatively less familiar hypergeometric polynomials, are also considered. Each of the integral representations, which are derived in this paper, may be viewed also as a linearization relationship for the product of two different members of the associated family of hypergeometric polynomials.
