The syntheses, characterisation and complexation reactions of a series of binucleating Schiff-base calixpyrrole macrocycles are described. The acid-templated [2+2] condensations between meso-disubstituted diformyldipyrromethanes and o-phenylenediamines generate the Schiff-base pyrrolic macrocycles H(4)L(1) to H(4)L(6) upon basic workup. The single-crystal X-ray structures of both H(4)L(3).2 EtOH and H(4)L(6).H2O confirm that [2+2] cyclisation has occurred, with either EtOH or H2O hydrogen-bonded within the macrocyclic cleft. A series of complexation reactions generate the dipalladium [Pd2(L)] (L=L(1) to L(5)), dinickel [Ni2(L(1))] and dicopper [Cu2(L)] (L=L(1) to L(3)) complexes. All of these complexes have been structurally characterised in the solid state and are found to adopt wedged structures that are enforced by the rigidity of the aryl backbone to give a cleft reminiscent of the structures of Pacman porphyrins. The binuclear nickel complexes [Ni2(mu-OMe)2Cl2(HOMe)2(H(4)L(1))] and [Ni2(mu-OH)2Cl2(HOMe)(H(4)L(5))] have also been prepared, although in these cases the solid-state structures show that the macrocyclic ligand remains protonated at the pyrrolic nitrogen atoms, and the Ni(II) cations are therefore co-ordinated by the imine nitrogen atoms only to give an open conformation for the complex. The dicopper complex [Cu2(L(3))] was crystallised in the presence of pyridine to form the adduct [Cu2(py)(L(3))], in which, in the solid state, the pyridine ligand is bound within the binuclear molecular cleft. Reaction between H(4)L(1) and [Mn(thf){N(SiMe(3))2}2] results in clean formation of the dimanganese complex [Mn2(L(1))], which, upon crystallisation, formed the mixed-valent complex [Mn2(mu-OH)(L(1))] in which the hydroxo ligand bridges the metal centres within the molecular cleft.  相似文献

Electron-spin relaxation is one of the determining factors in the efficacy of MRI contrast agents. Of all the parameters involved in determining relaxivity it remains the least well understood, particularly as it relates to the structure of the complex. One of the reasons for the poor understanding of electron-spin relaxation is that it is closely related to the ligand-field parameters of the Gd(3+) ion that forms the basis of MRI contrast agents and these complexes generally exhibit a structural isomerism that inherently complicates the study of electron spin relaxation. We have recently shown that two DOTA-type ligands could be synthesised that, when coordinated to Gd(3+), would adopt well defined coordination geometries and are not subject to the problems of intramolecular motion of other complexes. The EPR properties of these two chelates were studied and the results examined with theory to probe their electron-spin relaxation properties.  相似文献

Zinc and palladium tetracyclic aromatic complexes lying structurally between tetraazaporphyrin (TAP) and phthalocyanine (Pc), that is, monobenzo-, adjacently dibenzo-, oppositely dibenzo-, and tribenzo-fused TAPs, have been prepared, and their electronic structures investigated by electronic absorption, magnetic circular dichroism (MCD), fluorescence, phosphorescence, and time-resolved electron paramagnetic resonance (TREPR) spectroscopy, as well as cyclic voltammetry. The last-named indicated that the first oxidation potentials shift to more negative values with increasing number of the fused benzo rings, but also suggested that the first reduction potential apparently has no correlation with the size and symmetry of the pi-conjugated systems. However, this latter behavior is reasonably interpreted by the finding that the effect of the fused benzo rings on destabilization of the LUMO depends on the orbital to which they are fused (i.e., whether it is an egx or egy orbital), since the LUMOs of TAP complexes are degenerate with D4h symmetry. The energy splitting of the LUMOs, that is, DeltaLUMO, was evaluated experimentally for the first time by analyzing the relationship between the first reduction potential and the size and shape of the pi-conjugated system. Electronic absorption and MCD measurements indicate that the lowest excited singlet states are split in the case of the low-symmetry TAP derivatives, although these excited states are degenerate for Pc and TAP with D4h symmetry. These energy splittings DeltaE(SS) correlate well with the DeltaLUMO values. To investigate the electronic structures in the lowest excited triplet state, zero-field splitting (zfs) was analyzed by time-resolved EPR (TREPR) spectroscopy. The energy splitting in the lowest excited triplet state, DeltaE(TT) was quantitatively evaluated from the temperature dependence of the zfs or spin-orbit coupling of the Pd complexes. Consequently, it is demonstrated that DeltaLUMO, DeltaE(SS), and DeltaE(TT) values exhibiting a mutually good relationship can be determined experimentally.  相似文献

The dinuclear phenolato-bridged complex [(mL)Mn(II)Mn(II)(mL)](ClO(4))(2) (1(ClO(4))(2)) has been obtained with the new [N(4)O] pentadentate ligand mL(-) (mLH=N,N'-bis-(2-pyridylmethyl)-N-(2-hydroxybenzyl)-N'-methyl-ethane-1,2-diamine) and has been characterised by X-ray crystallography. X- and Q-band EPR spectra were recorded and their variation with temperature was examined. All spectra exhibit features extending over 0-800 mT at the X band and over 100-1450 mT at the Q band, features that are usually observed for dinuclear Mn(II) complexes. Cyclic voltammetry of 1 exhibits two irreversible oxidation waves at E(1)(p)=0.89 V and E(2)(p)=1.02 V, accompanied on the reverse scan by an ill-defined cathodic wave at E(1')(p)=0.56 V (all measured versus the saturated calomel electrode (SCE)). Upon chemical oxidation with tBuOOH (10 equiv) at 20 degrees C, 1 is transformed into the mono-mu-oxo species [(mL)Mn(III)-(mu-O)-Mn(III)(mL)](2+) (2), which eventually partially evolves into the di-mu-oxo species [(mL)Mn(III)-(mu-O)(2)-Mn(IV)(mL)](n+) (3) in which one of the aromatic rings of the ligand is decoordinated. The UV/Vis spectrum of 2 displays a large absorption band at 507 nm, which is attributed to a phenolate-->Mn(III) charge-transfer transition. The cyclovoltammogram of 2 exhibits two reversible oxidation waves, at 0.65 and 1.16 V versus the SCE, corresponding to the Mn(III)Mn(III)/Mn(III)Mn(IV) and Mn(III)Mn(IV)/Mn(IV)Mn(IV) oxidation processes, respectively. The one-electron electrochemical oxidation of 2 leads to the mono-mu-oxo mixed-valent species [(mL)Mn(III)-(mu-O)-Mn(IV)(mL)](3+) (2 ox). The UV/Vis spectrum of 2 ox exhibits one large band at 643 nm, which is attributed to the phenolate-->Mn(IV) charge-transfer transition. 2 ox can also be obtained by the direct electrochemical oxidation of 1 in the presence of an external base. The 2 ox and 3 species exhibit a 16-line EPR signal with first peak to last trough widths of 125 and 111 mT, respectively. Both spectra have been simulated by using colinear rhombic Mn-hyperfine tensors. Mechanisms for the chemical formation of 2 and the electrochemical oxidation of 1 into 2 ox are proposed.  相似文献

The first dicobalt(III) μ2-peroxo N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complex is reported. It can be quantitatively generated from a cobalt(II) compound bearing a 16-membered macrocyclic tetra-NHC ligand via facile activation of dioxygen from air at ambient conditions. The reaction proceeds via an end-on superoxo intermediate as demonstrated by EPR studies and DFT. The peroxo moiety can be cleaved upon addition of acetic acid, yielding the corresponding CoIII acetate complex going along with H2O2 formation. In contrast, both CoII and CoIII complexes are also studied as catalysts to utilize air for olefin and alkane oxidation reactions; however, not resulting in product formation. The observations are rationalized by DFT-calculations, suggesting a nucleophilic nature of the dicobalt(III) μ2-peroxo complex. All isolated compounds are characterized by NMR, ESI-MS, elemental analysis, EPR and SC-XRD.  相似文献

The isolation, structural characterization, and electronic properties of two six-coordinated chloromanganese (III) complexes, [Mn(terpy)(Cl)3] (1) and [Mn(Phterpy)(Cl)3] (2), are reported (terpy = 2,2':6'2"-terpyridine, Phterpy = 4'-phenyl-2,2':6',2"-terpyridine). These complexes complement a series of mononuclear azide and fluoride Mn(lll) complexes synthesized with neutral N-tridentate ligands, [Mn(L)(X)3] (X = F- or N3 and L = terpy or bpea [N,N-bis(2-pyridylmethyl)-ethylamine)], previously described. Similar to these previous complexes, 1 and 2 exhibit a Jahn-Teller distortion of the octahedron, characteristic of a high-spin Mn(III) complex (S = 2). The analysis of the crystallographic data shows that, in both cases, the manganese ion lies in the center of a distorted octahedron characterized by an elongation along the tetragonal axis. Their electronic properties were investigated by multifrequency EPR (190-475 GHz) performed in the solid state at different temperatures (5-15 K). This study confirms our previous results and further shows that: i) the sign of D is correlated with the nature of the tetragonal distortion; ii) the magnitude of D is not sensitive to the nature of the anions in our series of rhombic complexes, contrary to the porphyrinic systems; iii) the [E/D] values (0.124 for 1 and 0.085 for 2) are smaller compared to those found for the [Mn(L)(X)3] complexes (in the range of 0.146 to 0.234); and iv) the E term increases when the ligand-field strength of the equatorial ligands decreases.  相似文献

In situ ESR-UV/Vis spectroelectrochemistry is applied to obtain new insights into the intermediates and reaction products of the anodic oxidation of p-toluenediamine in aqueous solution at different pH values. A strong pH dependence of the stability of the cation radical is found. While the absence of a stable radical was proved by ESR spectroscopy at pH 2 and 10, this radical is detected at medium pH values and assigned to the semiquinonediimine structure. The UV/Vis absorption of the radical is observed at these pH values as well. The p-toluenediimine intermediate and the trimeric reaction product were followed during the electrode reaction by UV/Vis spectroscopy at all pH values.  相似文献

The oxidation of alkylarenes by dioxygen in the presence of complexes of nickel and cobalt with macrocyclic ethers 18-crown-6 and 15-crown-5 was studied. The conditions for selective catalytic oxidation of ethylbenzene to α-phenylethyl hydroperoxide were determined. The kinetics of the accumulation of all oxidation products was studied. The order of the formation of the products at different stages of chain oxidation was determined. The activity of the complexes at the elementary stages of the chain oxidation of ethylbenzene is discussed. Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk. The electrochemical reduction in DMSO of the five isomers of nitrobenzothiazole (NBTZ) gave quite persistent radical anions that could be easily characterised by EPR spectroscopy. By contrast, the chemical reduction in alkaline solution, that is by t-BuOK in DMSO or by glucose and MeOK in MeOH, presented some problems with 6- and 4-NBTZ, and in the case of 2-NBTZ did not provide any detectable paramagnetic species. The internal consistency of coupling constants of the nitrobenzothiazole radical anions is in good agreement with the conjugative properties of the various benzothiazolyl systems and allows rectifying a recent EPR characterisation of 6-NBTZ radical anion.  相似文献

Mononuclear metal–dioxygen species are key intermediates that are frequently observed in the catalytic cycles of dioxygen activation by metalloenzymes and their biomimetic compounds. In this work, a side‐on cobalt(III)–peroxo complex bearing a macrocyclic N‐tetramethylated cyclam (TMC) ligand, [CoIII(15‐TMC)(O2)]+, was synthesized and characterized with various spectroscopic methods. Upon protonation, this cobalt(III)–peroxo complex was cleanly converted into an end‐on cobalt(III)–hydroperoxo complex, [CoIII(15‐TMC)(OOH)]2+. The cobalt(III)–hydroperoxo complex was further converted to [CoIII(15‐TMC‐CH2‐O)]2+ by hydroxylation of a methyl group of the 15‐TMC ligand. Kinetic studies and 18O‐labeling experiments proposed that the aliphatic hydroxylation occurred via a CoIV–oxo (or CoIII–oxyl) species, which was formed by O? O bond homolysis of the cobalt(III)–hydroperoxo complex. In conclusion, we have shown the synthesis, structural and spectroscopic characterization, and reactivities of mononuclear cobalt complexes with peroxo, hydroperoxo, and oxo ligands.  相似文献

Surface oxidation of Co has been investigated at different temperatures in the 300–600 K range at oxygen exposures upto 106 L by XPES and AES techniques. In the XPES, both the valence band and core level bands have been employed to monitor the oxidation while in the AES, metal Auger intensity ratios as well as O(KLL)/Co(L23M45M45) ratios have been examined. Only CoO is formed on the surface at high oxygen exposures at and above 500 K. Communication No. 62 from the Solid State and Structural Chemistry Unit.  相似文献
