A simple model for the operation of a pulsed dye laser, transversely pumped by a nitrogen laser, is presented. We consider the combined effect of the transmission of the laser output coupler, its distance from the dye cell and the saturated gain characteristics of the dye laser medium, on the operation of the laser. The characteristics of a whispering-gallery-mode (WGM) dye laser using a variety of dye-doped solid microspheres, pumped by a UV N2-laser, are presented. Experimental results for the WGM dye laser are presented with the spatial distribution and spectral and temporal responses of lasing. The spectral response of a new variety of WGM dye laser is in the blue-green or red spectral regions, and over a wide spectral range.  相似文献

A comparative study is presented of the laser output characteristics of ten fluorescent solutes in different solvents, pumped with the 337.1 nm radiation from a 200 kW nitrogen laser. With both 2 mm and 10 mm dye path lengths, peak output powers of several kilowatts were obtained at wavelengths ranging from 350 to 600 nm and with pulse-widths as short as 0.5 nsec FWHM. The dependence of the laser characteristics on such variables as the concentration and the transmission of the solutions and the way of focusing the exciting radiation into the dye cavity were investigated. Three dye cells were made to lase in cascade, one of the stages with an efficiency of 50%.  相似文献

This paper presents an experimental study and theoretical analysis on the effect of pump power on the divergence, pointing, line-width and wavelength stability of a narrow line-width, high repetition rate dye laser oscillator. The dye laser oscillator, based on the hybrid multiple-prism grazing-incidence grating cavity, was pumped by copper vapor laser (CVL). The dye laser mode characteristics were studied at CVL average pump powers of 2, 4 and 8 W. The single pulse dye laser divergence/pointing stability was studied by far-field intensity distributions. The line-width and wavelength stability were studied using a high resolution wave-meter. The experimental results were theoretically analyzed in terms of dye laser mode structure drift induced by beam pointing instability, beam divergence and thermally induced optical path length fluctuation. A comprehensive theoretical treatment on pointing stability of dye laser beam and its influence in the dye laser wavelength stability is presented. The theoretical and experimental trends were found to be in good agreement.  相似文献

This paper presents the results and analysis of experiments carried out on a dye Q-switch to evaluate its operational characteristics. The work was performed on a ruby laser, Q-switched by cryptocyanine in methanol solution. Investigations of performance with regards to pump energy, dye absorbance, output energy and timing of pulse emergence are graphically presented. These results were used to derive the efficiency of Q-switching for varying dye absorbance. Finally, optimization of the Q-switch performance for different requirements of the laser is considered.  相似文献

Experimental measurements of power spectra of a single longitudinal and transverse mode ring dye laser are presented that reveal the critical slowing down of the laser near threshold. External pump noise serves as a probe of the frequency response of the dye laser. Detailed comparisons of the spectral characteristics with computer simulations and an approximate analytic theory are given. The dynamics of spatial pattern formation in a multimode dye laser is examined through measurements of first-passage-time distributions. A comparison of the experiments with computer simulations based on a simple theoretical model of the two-mode laser shows qualitative agreement. These measurements indicate that there are a variety of complex phenomena associated with the transverse mode pattern formation dynamics that need to be addressed theoretically and studied further experimentally.  相似文献

Design and performance characteristics of a tunable dye laser system for sum frequency mixing (SFM) in a BBO crystal are presented. The system is composed of two tunable pulsed dye lasers pumped synchronously by the second harmonic of a commercial Nd:YAG laser. The radiation produced by the first dye laser is frequency doubled by second-harmonic generation (SHG) in KDP and subsequently mixed by SFM in BBO with the light of the second dye laser. The interest was focussed on generation of tunable laser radiation below 205 nm with high output power and long-time wavelength stability. High conversion efficiencies enable output energies of 100 J (20 kW) at 196 nm using only moderate Nd:YAG pump energies of 67 mJ. Altogether, a laser system with very good specifications for analytical application in the near VUV spectral region is reported.  相似文献

Theoretical and experimental studies of temporal dynamics of grazing incidence grating (GIG) cavity, single-mode dye laser pumped by high repetition rate copper vapour laser (CVL) are presented. Spectral chirp of the dye laser as they evolve in the cavity due to transient phase dynamics of the amplifier gain medium is studied. Effect of grating efficiency, focal spot size, pump power and other cavity parameters on the temporal behaviour of narrow band dye laser such as build-up time, pulse shape and pulse width is studied using the four level dye laser rate equation and photon evolution equation. These results are compared with experimental observations of GIG single-mode dye laser cavity. The effect of pulse stretching of CVL pump pulse on the temporal dynamics of the dye laser is studied.  相似文献

An experimental study of the laser characteristics, by energy transfer machanism of a new dye: 7-Diethylamino-3-Cyano Benzimidazo (1,2-a) Quinoline (DCBQ) using 7-Diethylamiho-4-Methyl Coumarin (Coumarin 1,DAMC) as a donor are presented. The effect of the concentration of the components on the lasing characteristics like peak power and wavelength of lasing of dye mixture is studied and discussed. The effect of the solvents on the fluorescence energy transfer has also been studied to ascertain the nature of the transfer mechanism involved. The fluorescence energy transfer rate constant(kET) and the critical transfer distance(Ro) are experimentally determined and also calculatee theoretically. These results indicate the dominance of resonance transfer in this energy transfer dye laser.  相似文献

The pumping characteristics of dye lasers using multiple dyes are discussed. It turns out that varying the dye concentration may change considerably the portion of the pump light spectrum which is effective in creating population inversion. Thus the effect of an energy transfer dye depends strongly on the concentration of the lasing dye. Multiple dye systems are shown to have larger tuning ranges than single dye systems, and should exhibit improved tuned linewidth as well as better dye stability. Experimental results are presented for a common dye combination (Rhodamine 6G and Coumarin 6). Measurements were made both by directly mixing the auxiliary dye with the lasing dye, and also by using the auxiliary dye as a fluorescent spectral filter placed between the pump light source and the laser cell; the results are compared.  相似文献

We have developed a device which includes two laser sources (nitrogen and dye lasers), an optical system, an optical fibre able to transmit both ultra-violet and infra-red light, photoreceivers, and an analogue circuit feeding a microcomputer in order to perform an in situ and on line study of NADH/NAD ratios by fluorimetry.The paper includes the scientific basis of the method, the characteristics of each part of the apparatus and possible applications to the study of cardiac metabolism or any organ that can be reached through catheterism, fibrescopy or simple transcutaneous puncture. Results of investigations into the spectral and power characteristics of two-photon fluorescence of a liquid drop with the Rhodamine 6G dye irradiated by femtosecond laser pulses are presented. Results on characterization of spectral width and lifetime broadening mechanism in picoseconds multiple-pulse pumped distributed feedback dye lasers (DFDL) is presented. An experimental study was carried out to investigate the impact of pump pulse energy, dynamic grating length and dye concentration on the spectral width and lifetime characteristics of single and multi-pulse pumped DFDL. To implement this study the solution of Rh6G in ethanol was pumped by 2nd harmonic of a passively q.switched and modelocked ND:YAG laser. Further to study the effect of grating chirp factor on spectral characteristics of the luminescence spectra of the DFDL, the dye cell was pumped by multiple time delayed pulses. Results show that pump power, grating length, dye concentrations and temperature effects cause spectral and life time broadening of simultaneously oscillating multiple lasing lines.  相似文献

In this paper, the design and performance characteristics of a pulsed tunable dye laser system for the simultaneous generation of two UV wavelengths are presented. The system is composed of an oscillator and an amplifier stage, pumped by the second harmonic of a commercial Nd:YAG laser. Dual-wavelength operation is achieved with one additional tuning mirror introduced to the prism expanded grazing incidence oscillator. The two obtained wavelengths are independently tunable, their separation is only limited by the gain profile of the dye. Both wavelengths are frequency doubled by Second-Harmonic Generation (SHG) in two KDP or BBO crystals. Performance characteristics such as bandwidth, efficiency, tuning range and wavelength separation are reported. As application two such systems are used for the simultaneous detection of the four elements cadmium, nickel, manganese and lead by Laser-Excited Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometry in a graphite furnace (ETA-LEAFS).  相似文献

The analysis of the influence of an intracavity absorbing dye cell on the spectral characteristics of a free running dye laser leads to the operation of two coupled dye lasers. A powerful flashlamp-pumped dye ring laser pumps a secondary intracavity dye laser with a conversion efficiency of 30 %. Both wavelengths are independently tunable and cover the spectral range from 580 nm to 652 nm in the case of the dye combination rhodamine 6G and cresyl violet.  相似文献

We report on two-wavelength operation of a CPM ring dye laser employing Rhodamine 6G as gain medium and a new styryl dye as saturable absorber. Two trains of femtosecond pulses at different wavelengths are simultaneously generated under proper alignment of the laser. The secondary pulse train is attributed to the laser action of the absorber dye. Auto- and cross-correlation measurements are performed to determine the temporal characteristics of the laser in the double mode-locking regime.  相似文献

Solid state dye doped polymer is an attractive alternative to the conventional liquid dye solution. In this paper the laser characteristics of coumarin 307 (C307) doped polymethyl methacrylate rods modified with dioxane are studied under nitrogen laser excitation in a transverse pumping configuration and the variation of gain of the dye in solid medium for different pumping powers is studied. A mathematical model describing the dynamic emission of the Q-switched ruby laser has been adapted. The suggested model allows the investigation of the effects of a dye cell on the mode characteristics of the ruby laser and, moreover, the study of the effect of the laser input parameters on the output laser pulse. This model simulates the nonlinear effects of dye pulse modulation on the laser emission.In addition, a numerical solution of a nonlinear rate equation system of the adapted model is discussed. The solution estimates the density of the emitted radiation, population inversion and energy transfer processes of the ruby laser rod and dye cell for different emission regimes (one pulse regime, free running pulses, repetition periodic pulses). The estimated results of the laser output pulse characteristics are in a good agreement with the other calculated and experimental results.  相似文献
