In this paper, three physical predictions on the phase separation of binary systems are derived based on a dynamic transition theory developed recently by the authors. First, the order of phase transitions is precisely determined by the sign of a nondimensional parameter K such that if K>0, the transition is first order with latent heat and if K<0, the transition is second order. Here the parameter K is defined in terms of the coefficients in the quadratic and cubic nonlinear terms of the Cahn-Hilliard equation and the typical length scale of the container. Second, a phase diagram is derived, characterizing the order of phase transitions, and leading in particular to a prediction that there is only a second-order transition for molar fraction near 1/2. This is different from the prediction made by the classical phase diagram. Third, a TL-phase diagram is derived, characterizing the regions of both homogeneous and separation phases and their transitions.  相似文献

Low-temperature specific-heat measurements on YbRh2Si2 at the second order antiferromagnetic (AF) phase transition reveal a sharp peak at TN=72 mK. The corresponding critical exponent α turns out to be α=0.38, which differs significantly from that obtained within the framework of the fluctuation theory of second order phase transitions based on the scale invariance, where α?0.1. We show that under the application of magnetic field the curve of the second order AF phase transitions passes into a curve of the first order ones at the tricritical point leading to a violation of the critical universality of the fluctuation theory. This change of the phase transition is generated by the fermion condensation quantum phase transition. Near the tricritical point the Landau theory of second order phase transitions is applicable and gives α?1/2. We demonstrate that this value of α is in good agreement with the specific-heat measurements.  相似文献

Using the numerical diagonalization of the finite-cluster tJ model, we investigate the mechanism of the charge stripes based on the ring exchange interaction. We calculate the many-hole correlation functions related with the two-types of charge stripes; the vertical and diagonal types of the charge stripe. As a result, we present a phase diagram including the two stripe phases and a phase separation phase.  相似文献

The phase diagrams of the nonequilibrium mixed spin-3/2 and spin-2 Ising ferrimagnetic system on square lattice under a time-dependent external magnetic field are presented by using the Glauber-type stochastic dynamics. The model system consists of two interpenetrating sublattices of spins σ=3/2 and S=2, and we take only nearest-neighbor interactions between pairs of spins. The system is in contact with a heat bath at absolute temperature Tabs and the exchange of energy with the heat bath occurs via one-spin flip of the Glauber dynamics. First, we investigate the time variations of average order parameters to find the phases in the system and then the thermal behavior of the dynamic order parameters to obtain the dynamic phase transition (DPT) points as well as to characterize the nature (first- or second-order) phase transitions. The dynamic phase diagrams are presented in two different planes. Phase diagrams contain paramagnetic (p), ferrimagnetic (i1, i2, i3) phases, and three coexistence or mixed phase regions, namely i1+p, i2+p and i3+p mixed phases that strongly depend on interaction parameters.  相似文献

The pressure-temperature magnetic phase diagram based on electrical resistivity measurements was determined for Fe-Rh alloys, ferromagnetic down to 4.2 K, from room temperature to the Curie point (750 K) and for pressure up to 100 kbar. A pressure-induced first order ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic phase transition line was found with an inhomogeneous, mixed phase existing at pressures lower than 50 kbar. A new, qualitative model is proposed to explain the phase transitions, the absence of magnetic moment on Rh atoms in the AF state and the shape of the p-T diagram. The model is based on the excitonic antiferromagnetism of semimetallic Fe-Rh and it is connected with the pecularities of the electroni structure and the shape of the Fermi surface.  相似文献

The two-dimensional dipolar Ising model is investigated for the relaxation and dynamics of minor magnetization loops. Monte Carlo simulations show that in a stripe phase an exponential decrease can be found for the magnetization maxima of the loops, Mexp(−αNl) where Nl is the number of loops. We discuss the limits of this behavior and its relation to the equilibrium phase diagram of the model.  相似文献

We present the results of magnetization, susceptibility and specific-heat measurements of the high-temperature (HT) and low-temperature (LT) phases of PrIr2Si2 performed on single-crystalline samples. The HT and LT phases adopt the tetragonal CaBe2Ge2-type and ThCr2Si2-type structure, respectively. We have found no magnetic phase transition for the HT phase at temperatures down to 2 K. On the other hand, the LT phase apparently orders antiferromagnetically (AF) at 45.5 K and undergoes a transition to another AF phase at Tt=23.7 K. Complexity of the magnetic phase diagram is amplified by two metamagnetic transitions induced by magnetic field applied along the c-axis at temperatures below Tt. The results will be discussed with respect to other polymorphic compounds PrNi2As2 and UCo2Ge2.  相似文献

We study the interplay of topological excitations in stripe phases: charge dislocations, charge loops, and spin vortices. In two dimensions these defects interact logarithmically on large distances. Using a renormalization-group analysis in the Coulomb-gas representation of these defects, we calculate the phase diagram and the critical properties of the transitions. Depending on the interaction parameters, spin and charge order can disappear at a single transition or in a sequence of two transitions (spin-charge separation). These transitions are nonuniversal with continuously varying critical exponents. We also determine the nature of the points where three phases coexist.  相似文献

We argue that aspects of the anomalous, low temperature, spin and charge dynamics of the high temperature superconductors can be understood by studying the corresponding physics of undoped Mott insulators. Such insulators display a quantum transition from a magnetically ordered Néel state to a confining paramagnet with a spin gap; the latter state has bond-centered charge order, a low energy S=1 spin exciton, confinement of S=1/2 spinons, and a free S=1/2 moment near non-magnetic impurities. We discuss how these characteristics, and the quantum phase transitions, evolve upon doping the insulator into a d-wave superconductor. This theoretical framework was used to make a number of predictions for STM measurements and for the phase diagram of the doped Mott insulator in an applied magnetic field.  相似文献

The phase diagrams of a two-sublattice Ising metamagnet at finite temperature in a mixed longitudinal field and a transverse magnetic field are investigated by the use of an effective-field theory (EFT) with correlations. In addition to the second-order transition lines, the first-order transition lines are also presented in the phase diagrams, since the Gibbs free energy can be calculated numerically. The results show that there is no fourth-order critical line in the phase diagrams given by using EFT as found by using mean-field theory (MFT). The tricritical lines and their projection in the thx plane obtained by using EFT are also quite different from those by using MFT. Only one type of phase diagram is obtained by using EFT while three kinds of phase diagrams are obtained by using MFT, which indicates that only the first kind of phase diagrams obtained by using MFT is reliable. Furthermore, it is shown that the region of first-order transitions increases as the transverse magnetic field hx decreases.  相似文献

We consider the spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain with alternating spin exchange in the presence of additional modulation of exchange on odd bonds with period 3. We study the ground state magnetic phase diagram of this hexamer spin chain in the limit of very strong antiferromagnetic (AF) exchange on odd bonds using the numerical Lanczos method and bosonization approach. In the limit of strong magnetic field commensurate with the dominating AF exchange, the model is mapped onto an effective XXZ Heisenberg chain in the presence of uniform and spatially modulated fields, which is studied using the standard continuum-limit bosonization approach. In the absence of additional hexamer modulation, the model undergoes a quantum phase transition from a gapped phase into the only one gapless Lüttinger liquid (LL) phase by increasing the magnetic field. In the presence of hexamer modulation, two new gapped phases are identified in the ground state at magnetization equal to [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] of the saturation value. These phases reveal themselves also in the magnetization curve as plateaus at corresponding values of magnetization. As a result, the magnetic phase diagram of the hexamer chain shows seven different quantum phases, four gapped and three gapless, and the system is characterized by six critical fields which mark quantum phase transitions between the ordered gapped and the LL gapless phases.  相似文献

We use quantum Monte Carlo simulations to determine the finite temperature phase diagram and to investigate the thermal and quantum melting of stripe phases in a two-dimensional hard-core boson model. At half filling and low temperatures the stripes melt at a first order transition. In the doped system, the melting transitions of the smectic phase at high temperatures and the superfluid smectic (supersolid) phase at low temperatures are either very weakly first order, or of second order with no clear indications for an intermediate nematic phase.  相似文献

Using an extended slave-boson method,we draw a global phase diagram summarizing both magnetic phases and paramagnetic(PM) topological insulators(TIs) in a three-dimensional topological Kondo insulator(TKI). By including electron hopping(EH) up to the third neighbors, we identify four strong TI(STI) phases and two weak TI(WTI) phases. Then, the PM phase diagrams characterizing topological transitions between these TIs are depicted as functions of EH,f-electron energy level, and hybridization constant. We also find an insulator-metal transition from an STI phase that has surface Fermi rings and spin textures in qualitative agreement with the TKI candidate SmBs. In the weak hybridization regime, antiferromagnetic(AF) order naturally arises in the phase diagrams. Depending on how the magnetic boundary crosses the PM topological transition lines,AF phases are classified into the AF topological insulator(AFTI) and the non-topological AF insulator, according to their Z_2 indices. In two small regions of parameter space, two distinct topological transition processes between AF phases occur, leading to two types of AFTIs showing distinguishable surface dispersions around their Dirac points.  相似文献

It is found that the carriers of the high-Tc cuprates are polaron-like ‘stripons’ carrying charge and located in stripe-like inhomogeneities, ‘quasi-electrons’ carrying charge and spin, and ‘svivons’ carrying spin and lattice distortion. This is shown to result in the observed anomalous spectroscopic properties of the cuprates. The AF/stripe-like inhomogeneities result from the Bose condensation of the svivon field, and the speed of their dynamics is determined by the width of the double-svivon neutron-resonance peak. Pairing results from transitions between pair states of stripons and quasi-electrons through the exchange of svivons. The obtained pairing symmetry is of the dx2y2 type; however, sign reversal through the charged stripes results in features not characteristic of this symmetry. The phase diagram is determined by a pairing and a coherence line, associated with a Mott transition, and the pseudogap state corresponds to incoherent pairing.  相似文献

The equilibrium properties of the spin-1 Ising system Hamiltonian with arbitrary bilinear (J), biquadratic (K) and odd (L), which is also called dipolar-quadrupolar, interactions is studied for zero magnetic field in the lowest approximation of the cluster variation method. The odd interaction is combined with the bilinear (dipolar) and biquadratic (quadrupolar) exchange interactions by the geometric mean. In this system, phase transitions depend on the ratio of the coupling parameters, α = J/K; therefore, the dependence of the nature of the phase transition on α is investigated extensively and it is found that for α ⩽ 1 and α ⩾ 2000 a second-order phase transition occurs, and for 1 < α < 2000 a first-order phase transition occurs. The critical temperatures in the case of a second-order phase transition and the upper and lower limits of stability temperature in the case of a first-order phase transition are obtained for different values of α calculated using the Hessian determinant. The first-order phase transition temperatures are found by using the free energy values while increasing and decreasing the temperature. Besides the stable branches of the order parameters, we establish also the metastable and unstable parts of these curves and the thermal variations of these solutions as a function of the reduced temperature are investigated. The unstable solutions for the first-order phase transitions are obtained by displaying the free energy surfaces in the form of a contour map. Results are compared with the spin-1 Ising system Hamiltonian with the bilinear and biquadratic interactions and it is found that the odd interaction greatly influences the phase transitions.  相似文献

Using an effective field theory with correlations, we study a kinetic spin-5/2 Blume-Capel model with bilinear exchange interaction and single-ion crystal field on a square lattice. The effective-field dynamic equation is derived by employing the Glauber transition rates. First, the phases in the kinetic system are obtained by solving this dynamic equation. Then, the thermal behavior of the dynamic magnetization, the hysteresis loop area and correlation are investigated in order to characterize the nature of the dynamic transitions and to obtain dynamic phase transition temperatures. Finally, we present the phase diagrams in two planes, namely (T/zJ, h0/zJ) and (T/zJ, D/zJ), where T absolute temperature, h0, the amplitude of the oscillating field, D, crystal field interaction or single-ion anisotropy constant and z denotes the nearest-neighbor sites of the central site. The phase diagrams exhibit four fundamental phases and ten mixed phases which are composed of binary, ternary and tetrad combination of fundamental phases, depending on the crystal field interaction parameter. Moreover, the phase diagrams contain a dynamic tricritical point (T), a double critical end point (B), a multicritical point (A) and zero-temperature critical point (Z).  相似文献

A second order phase transition between the space groups D182h and D174hleads to the high temperature tetragonal phase of (CH3NH3)2MnCl4. Similar transitions to tetragonal phases exist also in the ethyl- and propyl-compounds. Transition temperature increase with an increasing carbon chain length. Very low ΔH- and ΔS-values are compatible with a transition model obtained from nuclear resonance experiments. Further thermoanalytical results bear evidence on the complex role of alkyl-ammonium groups.  相似文献

We calculate the restricted phase diagram for the Falicov–Kimball model on a two-dimensional square lattice. We consider the limit where the average conduction electron density is equal to the average localized electron density, which is the limit related to the S z =0 states of the Hubbard model. After considering over 20,000 different candidate phases (with a unit cell of 16 sites or less) and their thermodynamic mixtures, we find only about 100 stable phases in the ground-state phase diagram, where the ground state is usually the phase separated mixture of two or three stable phases, that often have different electron densities than in the Maxwell-constructed mixture. We analyze these phases to describe where stripe phases occur and relate these discoveries (were appropriate) to the physics behind stripe formation in the Hubbard model.  相似文献

Using a replica formalism, a generalization of a recent mean field model corresponding to the observed wrinkling transition in randomly polymerized membranes is presented. In this model we study the effects of global fluctuations of the surface normals to the flat membrane, which can be introduced by a random local field. In absence of these global fluctuations, we show that, the model exhibits both continuous and discontinuous transitions between flat and wrinkled phases, contrary to what has been predicted by Bensimon et al. and Attal et al. Phase diagrams both in replica symmetry and in breaking of replica symmetry in sense of Almeida and Thouless are given. We have also investigated the effects of global fluctuations on the replica symmetry phase diagram. We show that, the wrinkled phase is favored and the flat phase is unstable. For large global fluctuations, the transition between wrinkled and flat phases becomes first order. Received: 3 December 1997 / Revised: 31 March 1998 / Accepted: 3 August 1998  相似文献
