We have generated Coulomb crystals of ultracold 4He+ ions in a linear radio-frequency trap, by sympathetic cooling via laser-cooled 9Be+. Stable crystals containing up to 150 localized He+ ions at approximately 20 mK were obtained. Ensembles or single ultracold He+ ions open up interesting perspectives for performing precision tests of QED and measurements of nuclear radii. This Letter also indicates the feasibility of cooling and crystallizing highly charged atomic ions using 9Be+ as coolant.  相似文献

Magnetic oscillations of the photovoltage in a two-dimensional electron system with the back gate, exposed to microwave radiation, are studied. The oscillations result from the interference of screened edge magnetoplasmons (EMPs). The mean free path of the EMPs is quantitatively determined by analyzing the dependence of the oscillation amplitude on the electron density. The dependences of the mean free path of the EMPs on the two-dimensional electron density, microwave frequency, electron relaxation time, and the magnetic field are studied. It is found that the dependences agree qualitatively with the known theoretical calculations.  相似文献

Ground-state properties of two-dimensional 3He- 4He mixtures are studied at zero temperature. A general argument based on the long-ranged attraction of the phonon exchange is given for the existence of 3He dimers in low-concentration mixtures with 4He. The binding energy of dimers ranges from milli- to microkelvins with increasing 4He density. By comparing the 3He impurity chemical potential in 4He with the one in pure 3He we conclude that at finite pressures 3He dimers form a mixture with 4He with a maximum solubility of approximately 3%.  相似文献

We show that small amounts of 3He atoms, added to a 4He drop deposited on a flat cesium surface at zero temperature, populate bound states localized at the contact line. These edge states show up for drops large enough to develop well defined surface and bulk regions together with a contact line, and they are structurally different from the well-known Andreev states that appear at the free surface and at the liquid-solid interface of films. We illustrate the one-body density of 3He in a drop with 1000 4He atoms, and show that for a sufficiently large number of impurities the density profiles spread beyond the edge, coating both the curved drop surface and its flat base and eventually isolating it from the substrate.  相似文献

We find that the long-wavelength magnetoplasmon, resistively detected by photoconductivity spectroscopy in high-mobility two-dimensional electron systems, deviates from its well-known semiclassical nature as uncovered in conventional absorption experiments. A clear filling-factor dependent plateau-type dispersion is observed that reveals a so far unknown relation between the magnetoplasmon and the quantum Hall effect.  相似文献

In the spectrum of photovoltage oscillations that are periodic with respect to the magnetic field and appear on Hall structures under microwave irradiation, two frequency components of oscillations are observed and analyzed. The appearance of these two frequencies in photovoltage oscillations is explained by the existence of two trajectories of edge magnetoplasmons and by the effects of the interference of collective excitations on these trajectories. The effects of the temperature, microwave radiation frequency, and magnetic field strength on the mean free path of edge magnetoplasmons are analyzed.  相似文献

The dependence of the intensities of atomic lines and molecular bands emitted in the afterglow of a helium discharge on the electron temperature is used to identify the processes in which states of He and He 2 * are populated. It is established that the formation of He* atoms (n = 3, 4) in decaying helium plasma occurs principally on account of the associative recombination of vibrationally excited He 2 + ions and electrons. A method for calculating the ion-material interaction in which the amplitude of the process of single-electron capture is expressed in terms of an elementary function is proposed. A monopole approximation for heavy particle interaction is used without considering the effect of passive electrons of the target atom. For the cross section of the single-electron capture in He+ ion-atom collisions, the proposed method makes it possible to improve the agreement of the calculated results with the experimental data by one order of magnitude in comparison with the OBK approximation.  相似文献
