We report on the experimental demonstration of saturated X-ray lasing on the 4 d → 4p, J = 0–1 line of nickel-like barium (Ba, Z = 56) at a wavelength of 9.2 nm, using a main pulse energy of 9 J in a 1.5-ps duration pulse from a Nd:glass chirped-pulse amplification laser. Gain saturation was achieved by applying a triple-pulse scheme in which a weak (few-percent) prepulse, preceding the main pulse by 2.4 ns, is followed by a second, relatively intense (16%) prepulse ~ 50 ps before the main pulse. For handling convenience, compound targets of BaF2 were used, either in the form of windows or coated onto glass slides. 相似文献

The spectral width of a Ni-like silver transient soft X-ray laser (4d-4p λ= 13.9 nm) was experimentally inferred from the
measurement of its temporal coherence, performed with a novel wavefront division interferometer. The measured coherence time
of 3 ps corresponds to a spectral linewidth of 0.7 m? which is narrow. We compare this experimental result to numerical simulations
of the amplified line profile, performed along two different approaches. Both calculations predict a spectral linewidth that
is about 3 times larger than the experimental value. We discuss several effects that might explain this discrepancy. We show
that, due to the short duration of the X-ray laser pulse, the assumption of a stationary electromagnetic field used in both
the experimental analysis and in the calculations need to be reconsidered. 相似文献

We report on gain-saturated operation of the 11.9 nm X-ray lasing line in Ni-like Sn using the grazing-incidence pumping scheme (GRIP). The experiments were done with 2-ps duration pump pulses and energies up to 5 J. Strong gain saturation with multi-microjoule output was measured for the Sn laser at a grazing angle of 30° and a pump pulse energy of 3 J. This was achieved with a 4.5%, 2-ps duration prepulse 2.4 ns ahead of the main pulse and also incident at grazing incidence. Increasing laser output was observed at GRIP angles up to 45°. At this angle, the minimum energy required for saturated lasing was determined as ∼2 J. 相似文献

We experimentally demonstrate that by longitudinally pumping 2 mm long molybdenum preformed plasma with high-intensity 475 fs duration laser pulse, a highly directive soft-x-ray laser at 18.9 nm wavelength is generated. The divergence of the beam is evaluated to be of the submilliradian order, and only requires a pump laser energy of 150 mJ. 相似文献

We have tested soft X-ray lasing in neon-like germanium with cylindrical targets where wave guiding and plasma confinement may affect lasing. An intense soft X-ray laser beam of 0.05 MW peak power and a narrow beam divergence (8 mrad) was produced at 23.6 nm with a 4 cm long straight cylindrical target of 0.72 mm inner diameter. Bending the cylindrical target to form a toroidal shape increased the lasing intensity by a factor of 3 accompanied with reduction of the beam divergence from 8 to 6 mrad. 相似文献

We report the first saturated amplification of an optical-field-ionization soft x-ray laser. The amplifying medium is generated by focusing a circularly polarized 330-mJ, 35-fs, 10-Hz Ti:sapphire laser system in a few-mm cell filled with xenon. A gain of 67 cm(-1) on the 4d(9)5p-4d(9)5d transition at 41.8 nm in Pd-like xenon and a gain-length product of 15 have been inferred at saturation. This source delivers about 5 x 10(9) photons per pulse. The influence of the pumping energy and the laser polarization on the lasing output are also presented. 相似文献

lasing is at least one order of magnitude higher than the non-lasing background. For the 32.6-nm line of Ti, the 25.5-nm line
of Fe, and the 23.1-nm line of Ni, gain coefficients of (±) 4.20.4cm-1, (±) 3.90.3cm-1, and (±) 3.60.6cm-1, respectively, were measured for 2.4-cm-long curved targets, resulting in gain–length products of ∼10. Angle-resolved spectra
indicate a beam divergence of 3 mrad (FWHM), typically. The space-resolved spectra show that the J=0-1 lasing lines are emitted
from an approximately 60-μm-wide (FWHM) plasma region, whereas the nearby continuum emission is produced in a considerably
broader plasma region of ∼250 μm. Lasing at 25.5 nm in neon-like iron was observed at a pump power as low as 180 GW (∼9 TW/cm2), with, however, considerable shot-to-shot scatter in the absolute laser output.

We realize a Ne-like Ar 46.9 nm soft X-ray laser pumped by a capillary discharge. The study of the laserpulse-intensity distribution is important for applications of soft X-ray lasers. The intensity distribution demonstrates the gain distribution, plasma radius, and axial plasma density that contribute to the study of the laser-pulse formation. To measure the intensity in different positions of the X-ray laser spot, we moved transversally an X-ray diode (XRD) assembled with a slit. We obtain the onedimensional intensity distribution. We find a laser divergence (FWHM) of 4.0 mrad. According to the gain-guided model, we calculate the intensity distribution. The measured divergence of 4.0 mrad roughly corresponds to a plasma radius a approximately equal to 230–250 μm and on-axis electron density n e ≈ 8.0?1018 ?9.0?1018 cm ?3. The results of calculations indicate that the divergence of the intensity distribution increases when the plasma radius decreases and the on-axis electron density increases. 相似文献

Under the condition of the low main current pulse, the capillary discharge soft X-ray laser is obtained. The laser energy of the same discharge current amplitude at different Ar pressures and of different current amplitudes at the same Ar pressure are compared, respectively. At different Ar pressures, the amplitude of the main current pulse evidently impacts the soft X ray, especially at a pressure higher than 30 Pa. In order to obtain the laser output at a high Ar pressure, the amplitude should be increased. However, at the same Ar pressure, it might have an optimum current, in which case the laser spike is the highest and the most stationary. The laser achieving time at different amplitudes is also discussed. As far as we know, this is the first time the influence of the amplitude of the main current pulse has been analyzed. 相似文献

We report on the soft X-ray laser developments performed at the Institute of Laser Engineering, Osaka University especially for the collisional excitation X-ray lasers at wavelengths between 25 nm and 4 nm. The performance of neon-like and nickel-like ion X-ray lasing pumped by a train of short laser pulses has been investigated. We have also demonstrated double pass amplification using a soft X-ray multi-layer mirror at wavelengths of 19.6 nm and 7.9 nm. Based on these results and experimental technique, two targets were placed in series to double the gain length. Two opposing laser beams irradiated the double targets with a suitable time difference for quasi-traveling wave pumping. The double target amplification was successfully demonstrated with two beam irradiation for Ag, Nd, Yb, Hf and Ta lasing. The estimated absolute photon flux from the saturated amplification Ag X-ray laser was ∼300 μJ. Based on the experimental results, we also discuss the applications of an X-ray laser as a super-high brightness soft X-ray source. 相似文献

The spectrum of xenon excited in a low-inductance vacuum spark was photographed at high resolution in the region of 9.5-15.5 nm. The observed transitions were identified as belonging to ions from Xe8+ to Xe13+. In the region of importance for extreme-ultraviolet lithography around 13.4 nm, the strongest lines were identified as 4d8-4d7 5p transitions in Xe10+. The identifications were made by use of energy parameters extrapolated along the isoelectronic sequence. 相似文献

At the Prague asterix laser system (PALS) of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic the 1-TW asterix iodine laser is used as a pump source for soft X-ray laser experiments. The prepulse technique was applied which is known to enhance the X-ray laser output at the J=0-1 transition dramatically. Since Zn slab targets were used the laser wavelength was 21.2 nm. A prepulse beam having 1.6 J was preceding the main pulse by 10 ns. The main and the prepulse beam are focused by two different optical systems separately. Implementing a half-cavity set-up for double-pass amplification using a Mo/Si multilayer mirror the X-ray laser output was 10 times stronger than at single pass amplification in a 3-cm long plasma. Double-pass amplification was observed to be most efficient when the pump pulse duration was at least 120 ps longer than the round trip time in the half-cavity. Under this fundamental condition the X-ray laser reached saturation in the double-pass regime containing 4 mJ energy what is proved to be enough for applications. In this contribution the X-ray laser features like divergence in two dimensions, the beam quality (symmetry), the pointing angle and the time-integrated output energy are investigated over more than 100 shots. To characterize the stability of the X-ray laser the shot distribution, the mean value and the standard deviation for these parameters are evaluated. For 18 shots in a series -- achieved during one single day -- the corresponding values are given and detailed chi-squared tests characterize the Zn X-ray laser as a robust tool suitable for applications. The dependence of the intensity of the 3p—3s,J = 0–1 lasing line at 32.6 nm in neon-like titanium on the prepulse level has been investigated experimentally. Titanium slabs were irradiated with 1.315 µm/450 ps pulses from the Asterix IV iodine laser using a defined prepulse of 5.2 ns before the main pulse. It is found that for pump energies close to the minimum energy for which lasing is observed, a prepulse level of order 0.5% gives the highest XUV laser intensity, whereas a higher prepulse level, of order 10% and more, is required for optimum XUV lasing far above the threshold. For a 2.7 cm long titanium target lasing was observed down to a pump irradiance of 2.5 TW/cm2 (50 J/450 ps) for the 0.5% prepulse. 相似文献
