An alumina-silica glass cylinder with cerium-activated gadolinium bromide, 2.5 cm in diameter and 3 cm long was cast to form a scintillation detector for spectral analysis of nuclear radiation, especially gamma rays. The detector, operated with a conventional photomultiplier tube and associated power supply, amplifier, and multichannel analyzer, shows for the first time for this material system a set of spectra that include well-defined full-energy gamma-ray peaks from 59.5 keV to 2500 keV. The full-energy peaks were characterized in terms of pulse height linearity, resolution, and counting efficiency. Energy spectral resolution also was demonstrated for alpha particles, beta particles, and 239Pu/Be neutrons. Gamma-ray detection efficiency was comparable to a conventional NaI(Tl) detector of similar volume but peak resolution at 662 keV in this new detector type was currently only 27%, compared to about 7% for the NaI(Tl) detector. Improved light output and thus resolution is being sought by optimizing glass compositions and processing.  相似文献

This article presents a study for investigating impact of the measurement approach on the quality of gamma scanning density profile in tray type columns using experimental and computational evaluations. Experimental density profiles from the total and the photopeak count measurements, as two approaches in gamma ray column scanning technique, has been compared with the computational density profile from Monte Carlo simulation results. We used a laboratory distillation column of 51 cm diameter as an illustrative example for this investigation. 137Cs was used as a gamma ray source with the activity of 296 MBq (8 mCi), with a NaI(Tl) detector. MCNP4C Monte Carlo code has been used for simulations. The quality of the density profile in the photopeak count approach is relatively within 155–204% better than that of the total count approach for experimental results. The same comparison for simulation results leads to a relative difference within 100–135% for the density profile.  相似文献

The presented paper on CsI(Na) scintillators is a continuation of systematical studies of alkali halide crystals exhibiting more than one exponential decay time. The CsI(Na) crystals are known to have short (~550 ns) and long (few microseconds) components in the scintillation pulse. Previous studies showed that integration of slow components of the light pulse improved the light output, non-proportionality and energy resolution of CsI(Tl), NaI(Tl) in lower temperatures and undoped NaI crystal at liquid nitrogen temperature. In this work, an influence of the shaping time in the spectroscopy amplifier on the light output, non-proportional response to γ-rays, and energy resolution of two different size CsI(Na) scintillators is examined. Each crystal was coupled to the Photonis XP5212 PMT with a photocathode blue sensitivity of 12.2 μA/l mF. The data analysis showed improved proportionality of the crystal response, higher number of photoelectrons/MeV-γ, and consequently, a better overall energy resolution obtained for 12 μs shaping time constant. Finally, the CsI(Na) characteristics are compared to that obtained previously for NaI(Tl).  相似文献

在中子检测爆炸物的研究中,利用14 MeV中子与原子序数大于5的原子核相互作用可产生特征射线的特性,采用伴随粒子法结合D-T中子飞行时间技术,使用尺寸为12.5 cm20 cm的大体积NaI(Tl)探测器,对爆炸物所含元素C,N,O以及一些模拟炸药样品进行了瞬发谱测量。获得了几种典型样品的特征谱,并对其进行了分析。实验结果与欧盟同期结果进行了比较,表明本实验研究达到了目前国际同类实验的水平,可以为中子检测爆炸物识别技术提供实验支持。  相似文献

Measurements are reported on the differential cross section for secondary gamma ray production on hydrogen and nuclear targets at 90° in the laboratory through the interactions of primary gamma rays in the energy range 270–375 MeV. A difference method using bremsstrahlung beams at different end point energies was employed. The gamma ray detector was a high resolution Nal(Tl) spectrometer and time of flight discrimination was used to reject neutrons. For incident gamma rays in the range 270–375 MeV the first pion nucleon resonance is strongly excited and the observed gamma ray yields are consistent with those expected due to an admixture of coherent and incoherent π0 photoproduction in the resonance region. The experiment marks the first successful use of a large Nal(Tl) crystals as a gamma ray spectrometer at a high energy electron linear accelerator, despite the low duty cycle and its accompanying difficulties for such detectors.  相似文献

一个正在建设的位于韩国Y2L地下实验室的低能暗物质探测实验中, 采用了CsI(Tl)晶体反符合探测器作为主动屏蔽体. 本工作对CsI(Tl)晶体反符合探测器的实验性能进行了研究. 通过FADC系统记录的脉冲波形数据, 研究了探测器的能量分辨率和波形甄别的能力; 研究相同能量γ射线入射到反符合探测器不同位置的相对光输出将有助于选择探测器的工作参数; 为了解晶体自身放射性对暗物质测量的影响, 利用低本底HPGe探测器对CsI(Tl)晶体内部的放射性进行了测量, 得到晶体内部Cs同位素的放射性活度. 探测器系统进行了约18d的试运行取数. 实验数据表明, CsI(Tl)晶体探测器的反符合效率约为31% HPGe探测器的本底计数率水平约为133cpd. 为了进行暗物质探测研究, 需要采取有效的方法进一步降低探测器的本底水平.  相似文献

The spectrum of γ rays from the neutron-induced fission reaction of 235U nuclei has been investigated in the energy range 10–90 MeV. The experiment was performed in the horizontal channel of a nuclear reactor. The energy spectra was measured using a single-crystal NaI(Tl) spectrometer. The data on the energy dependence of the yield of γ rays have been obtained in the energy range 10–36 MeV. The upper limit of the probability of γ-ray emission has been determined for the range 36–90 MeV.  相似文献

The space-based GAMMA-400 gamma-ray telescope will measure the fluxes of gamma rays in the energy range from ∼20 MeV to several TeV and cosmic-ray electrons and positrons in the energy range from several GeV to several TeV to investigate the origin of gamma-ray sources, sources and propagation of the Galactic cosmic rays and signatures of dark matter. The instrument consists of an anticoincidence system, a converter-tracker (thickness one radiation length, 1 X0), a time-of-flight system, an imaging calorimeter (2 X0) with tracker, a top shower scintillator detector, an electromagnetic calorimeter from CsI(Tl) crystals (16 X0) with four lateral scintillation detectors and a bottom shower scintillator detector. In this paper, the capability of the GAMMA-400 gamma-ray telescope for electron and positron measurements is analyzed. The bulk of cosmic rays are protons, whereas the contribution of the leptonic component to the total flux is ∼10−3 at high energy. The special methods for Monte Carlo simulations are proposed to distinguish electrons and positrons from proton background in the GAMMA-400 gamma-ray telescope. The contribution to the proton rejection from each detector system of the instrument is studied separately. The use of the combined information from all detectors allows us to reach a proton rejection of up to ∼1 × 104.

低能D(d,γ)4He辐射俘获反应截面的研究在聚变领域和天体物理等领域中起到非常重要的作用。由于受到标准γ源能量的制约,在研究D(d,γ)4He反应高能γ射线产额实验过程中不能用标准源进行效率刻度。采用实验测量与计算相结合的方法实现NaI探测器对23.8 MeV γ射线的效率刻度,先对6.13MeVγ射线效率进行实验刻度,然后用蒙卡程序MCNP-4C模拟计算出NaI探测器的效率曲线,再用实验数据与模拟结果进行对比校正,计算出NaI探测器在23.8MeV能量点对γ射线的探测效率。该方法对高能γ射线效率刻度给出了一种参考依据。In the study of D(d,γ)4He radiative capture reactions research, which is very important for fusion and astrophysics, the efficiency calibration of the detector is necessary. Due to the restriction on energy of the standard gamma source, the efficiency calibration of high-energy gamma-rays can not be calibrated by a standard source. In this paper, the method combining the experimental measurements and calculations for the efficiency calibrations of high energy gamma rays is given in the experiment of 6.13MeV gamma rays efficiency calibration using NaI detector, the efficiency curve of which is calculated by MCNP-4C and corrected experimentally. In this case, the detection efficiency of 23.8MeV gamma ray is known. The method provides a reference to high energy gamma ray efficiency calibration.  相似文献

A four-channel NP-424 type gamma analyzer coupled with a large NaI(Tl) scintillator was calibrated using a137Cs point source. The volume-samples were plexiglas cylindrical boxes (D=76mm, H=40mm) directly placed on the NaI(Tl) detector. Measurements for 64 indoor positions at full-662 keV-peak were made. Sample selfabsorbtion was determined considering a linear attenuation for gamma rays and measuring the absorption factor for maximum thickness of the volume sample (h0=40mm). The obtained results for two types of environmental samples (soil and milk-powder) are compared with the data acquired from other Romanian laboratories, in the frame of the Environmental Radioactivity Action (ERA) which standardized such types of measurements. The same samples were measured with a calibrated GeLi detector (INAN-Louvain la Neuve) and the results were in good agreement with our measurements. Using this NaI(Tl) calibrated spectrometer some radiocesium deposits (56 localities) from Transylvanian region were measured. The results show that a large deposit exists in the direction NE-SW in connection with the radioactive cloud passing. For Alba region were measured more than 40 kBq/m2 of cesium deposit.  相似文献

Target photons mixed in the 144, 250 and 565 keV mono-energetic neutron calibration fields were measured using a cylindrical NaI(Tl) detector with 7.62 cm both in diameter and in length. The ambient dose equivalent H*(10) of the photons was evaluated by applying the “G(E) function” to the measured pulse height spectrum. Neutrons induce photons by nuclear reactions in the NaI(Tl) detector and affect the pulse height spectrum. In order to eliminate the influence of these neutron events, the time-of-flight technique was applied with operating the accelerator in the pulse mode. The ratios by the ambient dose equivalent H*(10) of the photons to the 144, 250 and 565 keV neutrons were evaluated to be 3.3%, 4.7% and 0.9%, respectively. Although high energy photons ranging from 6 to 7 MeV are emitted by the 19F(p,αγ)16O reactions, the dose of the target photons is low enough to calibrate neutron dosemeters except for ones with high sensitivity to the photons.  相似文献

Gamma transitions and levels of125Te following the decay of125Sb have been studied using Ge(Li) detector and NaI(Tl)-NaI(Tl) sum-coincidence spectrometer incorporated with a fast-slow coincidence circuit. In all, twenty five gamma rays have been reported, out of which two weak gamma rays with energies 366·0 and 402·0 keV have been observed and confirmed for the first time. These gamma rays have been fitted by assigning a new level of 402 keV energy. An ambiguous transition of energy 122·1 keV has also been confirmed. No evidence was found for the existence of 145·9, 315·0, 489·8, and 497·4 keV transitions. The accurate intensities for various transitions have been determined.  相似文献

A new method to monitor the energy variation of a multi-energy electron linac by combining a Cerenkov detector and a CsI(Tl) detector is reported. The signals in the Cerenkov detector show an appreciable but different dependence on the energy of the electron linac from the traditional CsI(T1) detector due to the particular response of the former to charged electrons with high velocity above threshold. The method is more convenient than the HVL (half-value layer) method which is commonly employed to calibrate the energy of an electron linac for real time monitoring. The preliminary validity of the method is verified in a dual-energy electron linac with 6 MeV and 3 MeV gears. Moreover, the method combining the Cerenkov detector and the CsI(Tl) detector is applicable to probe the X-ray spectrum hardened by the inspected material and may serve as a novel tool for material discrimination with effective atomic number in radiation imaging.  相似文献

本文设计了基于FPGA的数字反符合γ谱仪系统来降低天然本底和康普顿散射对低活度放射性测量的影响。该系统选用Φ145 mm×95 mm×80 mm的NaI (Tl)环形探测器与Φ75 mm×75 mm的NaI (Tl)主探测器构成反符合探测器,采用FPGA和高速ADC同步采样主探测器脉冲信号和反符合环形探测器输出信号。在FPGA中实现了核脉冲信号采集、缓存、反符合甄别、梯形成形等相关算法。在天然本底测量实验中,数字反符合γ谱仪系统的计数率为191.80 cps,本底抑制系数为2.69;对137Cs放射源的测量实验表明,在反符合探测器端面中心处,反符合测量峰总比为0.41,能量分辨率为6.99%;在反符合探测器侧面中间部位,反符合测量峰总比为0.30,能量分辨率为7.48%。实验结果表明,基于FPGA的数字反符合γ谱仪系统明显降低了天然环境本底和康普顿散射对测量的影响,适用于低活度放射性测量、现场就地放射性测量。  相似文献

We investigated the cathode luminescence characteristics of CsI(Na)and CsI(Tl)crystals by the spectrum and structure properties at room temperature.We fabricated three different sizes of CsI(Na)and CsI(Tl)crystals and measured their luminescence spectra under cathode rays.We found that CsI(Na)cathode luminescence peaks appear at 420 and 305 nm,and CsI(Tl)cathode luminescence peaks are 540 and 410 nm,the grain size affects CsI(Na)luminescence significantly,and the Na-related420 nm luminescence intensified relatively when the average grain size reaches~20μm,which becomes weak when the grain size is down to nano-scale.But the cathode luminescence spectra of CsI(Tl)crystals with different size have no obvious changes.Our explanations for these phenomena are that the different impurities in the same host material CsI lead to different luminescence mechanisms.These cathode luminescence characteristics indicate the suitability of CsI(Na)and CsI(Tl)crystals to match photomultiplier tube for large area crystal detector development.  相似文献

Radiation sources of 60Co are commonly measured by means of HPGe gamma spectrometers, either as unknown sources or as calibration sources. However, the two gamma rays that are emitted by this nuclide, at 1.17 MeV and 1.33 MeV respectively, follow each other so rapidly that in the cases where both photons interact with the crystal, the electronics will record a single additive pulse. This is a cascade or coincidence summing effect. Such effect induces in the gamma spectra a “sum-peak”, appearing at 2.5 MeV on the energy axis, generated by the pair of photons which have both been entirely absorbed by the detector. Also, the second photon is correlated for direction to the first one, i.e., it will not be emitted at random, with an isotropic probability. Then the question arises of to what extent the two effects, cascade and correlation, might affect the count rates for the three peaks. Various answers have already been published, but without practical solutions. In this context, the present work was devoted to further explore the question by means of Monte Carlo simulation, in the case of a welltype detector. As a result, inside the well the sum peak only is not affected and it allows accurate evaluation of the detector efficiency at 1.25 MeV. Outside the well, near the detector, none of the three peaks can be directly used for efficiency evaluation, unless the relevant corrections can be evaluated. At a distance from the detector, the two single peaks can be used, but with the drawback of a low efficiency.  相似文献

为了在CSRm的电子冷却器上进行辐射复合以及双电子复合实验, 需要探测能量小于4 MeV/u的离子, 因此设计了新的置于超高真空环境的CsI(Tl)闪烁探测器, 探测器采用的光电倍增管为R7525(Hamamatsu)。 介绍了新闪烁探测器的结构, 并对其进行了性能测试。 测试结果表明, 该探测器对高、 低能离子均有良好的响应, 探测器的信号十分明显。 探测器的最高计数率可以达到106 ions/s, 并且探测器附近的真空度可达10-10 Pa量级, 能够满足辐射复合与双电子复合实验以及储存环对真空的要求, 为今后在CSRm上进行复合实验打下了良好的基础。 A new CsI(Tl) scintillation detector readout with R7525 PMT(Hamamatsu)is designed to detect low energy (<4 MeV/u) ions in radiative recombination and dielectronic recombination experiments at the main cooler storage ring in Lanzhou. The structure of the scintillator detector is described in this paper. The detector is tested with α source and ion beams, respectively. The signals from background, 200 MeV/u C6+ and alpha radioactive source are recorded and analyzed. The results show that the detector has good response to high and low energy ions. The maximum counting rate of the detector can reach 106 ions/s and the vacuum level near the detector can reach 10-10 Pa, both are good for recombination experiments. The installation of the new detector to CSRm is of great help for future radiative recombination and dielectronic recombination experiments.  相似文献

γ射线与晶体单元的相互作用特性对于PET探测器的研制有着重要的参考意义. 通过实验测得了不同能量的γ射线在BGO, CsI, NaI 3种闪烁晶体中的探测效率、 能量分辨率等相互作用特性参数, 并与蒙特卡洛模拟结果进行了比较. 结果给出了最适合PET探测器的晶体单元. It’s important for development of PET detector that the interaction effect of γ rays and scintillator units are studied. The detection efficiencies and energy resolutions of γ rays for BGO, CsI and NaI crystal detector units are measured. Geant4 Monte Carlo simulations are compared with the experimental results.
