Thermally-transferred optically stimulated luminescence (TT-OSL) extends the age range of OSL dating using quartz. A set of experiments have been undertaken to determine the kinetic parameters of the TT-OSL source traps, and this information has been used to propose an improved TT-OSL single aliquot regenerative (SAR) dose protocol. By combining together OSL and thermoluminescence (TL) measurements on fine-grained quartz, a correspondence between TL peaks and the TT-OSL signal is found. The thermal stability of the main TT-OSL trap was estimated by applying Hoogenstraaten’s method and allowing for thermal quenching; this predicts a lifetime of 4.5 Ma at 10 °C. A set of experiments were undertaken to refine the treatment needed at the end of each SAR cycle to erase the previously acquired TT-OSL signal. An improved TT-OSL SAR protocol using this treatment is proposed, and it is tested on quartz from a young Holocene sample. These tests yielded excellent recycling ratios and excellent dose recovery.  相似文献

This study compares natural and laboratory generated thermally transferred optically stimulated luminescence (TT-OSL) dose response curves (DRCs) for fine-grain quartz extracts from the Luochuan loess section in central China. Both DRCs saturate at high doses relative to the quartz OSL signal; the natural TT-OSL DRC saturates at about 2200 Gy and laboratory DRCs saturate at about 2700 Gy. However, the natural and laboratory TT-OSL DRCs deviate from one another at circa 150 Gy resulting in TT-OSL equivalent dose underestimation relative to palaeodoses expected from dose rates and independent age control. The lifetime of the TT-OSL signal at 10 °C, calculated from values of trap parameters E and s, is compared against the value for lifetime of the TT-OSL signal in nature at average burial temperature as determined from the age underestimation caused by deviation of the natural and laboratory generated DRCs. These two independent assessments of TT-OSL signal lifetime at Luochuan give similar values, suggesting that laboratory measurements of thermal stability reflect natural burial lifetimes and can potentially be used to correct TT-OSL ages for the difference between natural and laboratory dose response curves.  相似文献

Isothermal heating is commonly used in luminescence dosimetry and trap parameter studies. It is often observed that the isothermal luminescence signal has a peak shape instead of a monotonous decay form. We provide here evidence that this peak shape in quartz may equally result from a ‘thermal lag’ problem in contrast to the earlier propositions of non first-order kinetics. Temperature modelling suggests that the peak-shaped signal contains elements of both the ramped — and isothermal — thermoluminescence (TL). The modelled changes in the peak movement as a function of isothermal temperature and the ramp-rate show an excellent agreement with those obtained experimentally. This understanding of thermal lag is extended to optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) measurements for which the effects of isothermal TL contamination and changing thermal assistance during thermal equilibration are discussed. Appropriate methods are suggested to identify thermal lag on the basis of the peak structure, and to circumvent this effect in isothermal methods.  相似文献

介绍了自行研制的计算机化热释光和光释光三维光谱测量装置的系统结构及其工作原理.在计算机的控制下,通过精密加热器或激发光源以热激发或光激发的方式使样品发光.从样品发出的光经过光路和光栅分光系统后,形成光谱,被高灵敏度的CCD采集,再将光谱图像模拟信号变为可以直接用计算机进行数据处理的数据信号.波长范围200~800nm,波长分辨率优于2nm,人机界面友好,操作方便.利用热释光和光释光三维光谱测量装置测量了SrSO4:Eu(0.1%,摩尔分数)和CaSO4:Eu(0.1%,摩尔分数)的光释光发光谱和热释光发光谱,得到SrSO4:Eu的光释光发光波长与热释光发光波长均为375nm,而CaSO4:Eu的光释光发光波长与热释光发光波长均为385nm,说明热释光和光释光具有相同的发光中心,均来自于Eu2+的能级跃迁.同时在CaSO4:Eu的热释光发光谱中还观察到了Eu3+的发光.与二维发光曲线相比较,通过对三维热释光和光释光发光谱的研究,可以得到更丰富的信息,这有助于对热释光和光释光发光机制进行更深入的研究.  相似文献

Various optically stimulated luminescence signals from K-feldspar have been used to determine the equivalent doses of sediment samples. Understanding the properties of these optical signals is critical to evaluate their applicability and limitations to optical dating. In this paper, some properties of IRSL, post-IR OSL and post-IR IRSL signals (detected in the UV region using U-340 filters) from a museum sample of K-feldspar were investigated by analyzing the relationships between optical and TL signals, and the effect of optical bleaching and heating on optical signals. The trap parameters of the different optical signals were calculated using the pulse annealing method. The results show that this sample exhibits two regenerated TL peaks at ~140 and ~330 °C. Corresponding to the low temperature TL peak, the OSL and post-IR OSL signals appear to be more associated with lower temperature TL than the IRSL signal measured at 50 °C. Corresponding to the high temperature TL peak, the post-IR IRSL signals mainly originate from the more thermally stable traps associated with the high temperature TL, compared with the IRSL and post-IR OSL signals. However, the post-IR IRSL225 °C signal is shown to be hard to be bleached by blue light and simulated sunlight, compared with the IRSL50 °C and low temperature post-IR IRSL signals. The implication for optical dating is that the elevated temperature post-IR IRSL signals can be preferentially applied over other signals from K-feldspar, but it is desirable that the effectiveness of the pre-depositional zeroing of these signals is assessed.  相似文献

A series of experiments on the luminescence signals from the glassy matrix of mosaic tesserae has been conducted. The results presented show the relationship between the 280–390 °C thermoluminescence (TL) peak and the optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) emitted under illumination by 450 nm light. We have proposed an appropriate laboratory protocol with repeated irradiations and illuminations of the same aliquot of the sample that allowed for establishing a correlation between TSL and OSL emissions, both very likely associated to the same trap. We propose a model describing the mechanism for generation of an optically stimulated luminescence signal in potassium feldspars when irradiated in an IR absorption band (IR OSL). The model assumes that this type of stimulated luminescence is intercenter by nature, arising in tightly bound deep trap/ionized luminescence center pairs. At the same time, the thermoluminescence (TL) signal and the optically stimulated afterglow (OSA) signal arise in a recombination process with participation of the conduction band. The thermally transferred optically stimulated luminescence (TT-OSL) responses of chemically purified fine-grained quartz from seven loess-like samples from Korea are presented. In particular, the experimental procedures used to separate the dose-dependent (recuperated OSL, ReOSL) and dose-independent parts of the signal were explored. The OSL signals used to monitor the sensitivity changes that take place during the measurement sequences used to determine the equivalent dose were investigated. A single aliquot procedure was used for the TT-OSL measurements and resulted in linear growth of the ReOSL with dose up to at least 2 kGy. For this suite of samples, a standardised growth curve (SGC) was constructed for the ReOSL, tested with dose recovery experiments, and was used to obtain De values for the seven samples.  相似文献

The feasibility of utilizing the pre-dosed OSL signal in the estimation of the equivalent dose has been investigated. The results based on (i) the behavior of growth curve, (ii) dose recovery tests and (iii) non-bleachability of reservoir centres, R-centres, suggests that (i) the pre-dosed OSL does not seem to work satisfactorily in dose estimation unlike the pre-dosed 110 °C TL emission and (ii) it may not be applicable in case of bleached specimen.  相似文献

Thermoluminescence (TL), dose-dependence of TL, optically stimulated luminescence (OSL), and EPR of Eu-doped strontium sulphate are studied. Eu enters the host lattice in 2+ charge state and does not change the charge state during energy storage and release. OSL disappears during pulse-step annealing of excited luminophor at the temperatures corresponding to dosimetric TL peak. Dosimetric TL peak can be destroyed by a continuous optical stimulation of excited sample. Ionizing radiation creates radiation defects in the host lattice, with the ionized sulphate anions being stable hole centres well above room temperature. Optical stimulation in the blue band (460–470 nm) causes the captured holes to be transported to the luminescence centres, similarly acts the heating of luminophor. The model of energy storage and release is discussed.  相似文献

Standard methods of OSL measurements (CW-OSL or LM-OSL) do not allow for the direct determination of optical depth of traps. The variable energy of stimulation optically stimulated luminescence (VES-OSL) method gives such possibility. It consists in optical stimulation with the continuous increase of stimulation light energy and is analogous to the glow curve method in TL measurements. The VES-OSL curve shape and maximum position can be regulated by the stimulation photon flux, the rate of stimulation energy increase and by measurement temperature. This allows for detecting the OSL from very deep traps that give the TL signal overlapping with strong incandescence. The VES-OSL measurements carried out for Al2O3:C showed that traps having the optical depth between 2.0 and 2.8 eV are responsible for the OSL signal related to TL peak at about 200 °C. The OSL signal from the much deeper traps from the range 2.8–3.3 eV was also detected. The TL signal related do these traps cannot be detected below 500 °C.  相似文献

Laboratory storage and preheating experiments were carried out to study anomalous fading of infrared stimulated luminescence (IRSL) signals derived from polymineral grains extracted from Chinese loess. Results of laboratory storage at 150 °C and higher temperature preheating experiments showed that such thermal treatments could lessen the effect of fading and indicated the presence of both thermal and non-thermal fading. In addition, the behavior of natural fading over the past 9–170 ka was investigated. By comparing with independent ages (obtained from fine-grain quartz using the optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) signal for the past 130 ka and the thermally transferred OSL (TT-OSL) signal in the age range of 130–170 ka) for the same samples, equivalent doses obtained from the IRSL signals were found to be underestimated by different amounts since the penultimate glacial; there was a linear dependence when the age underestimation was plotted against geological time.  相似文献

Seventeen domestic and scientific glass specimens were investigated for thermoluminescence (TL) properties suitable for application to retrospective population dosimetry. Usefulness for retrospective dosimetry was initially judged by the presence of well-defined TL glow peaks and the absence of irradiation-independent luminescence. Of particular interest were TL glow peaks having relatively low trap depths, to prevent significant natural dose accumulation. Minimum useful trap lifetimes would be in the order of weeks. Surveys were undertaken to observe the TL and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) behaviour of each sample. Most samples showed identifiable TL, with Pyrex in particular, and samples from a jar, a lampshade, and opaque blue beads all showing well-defined TL glow peaks with sensitivities that were not significantly affected by prior irradiation and heating of the sample. Kinetic analysis of these samples showed that their TL emission originates from traps with suitable stability for retrospective dosimetry. It is concluded that, while some glass samples show promising results, the inherent variability of an amorphous substance such as glass means that the suitability of each sample must be determined on a case-by-case basis.  相似文献

The model of semi-localized transitions (SLT) unifies two standard models of thermoluminescence (TL) and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) kinetics – the simple trap model (STM) and the model of localized transitions (LT). SLT equations were previously formulated for the heating stage of TL. This paper presents SLT equations for the excitation and fast relaxation stages. Exemplary calculations were performed to show the occurrence of dose-rate effect – previously found in STM. It is shown that the dose-rate effect occurs for both – localized and delocalized TL glow peaks.  相似文献

The quartz OSL signal from dune sands from Saudi Arabia and Oman start to saturate at doses of about 100 Gy. In order to try to date dune sands with greater expected doses, a previously published, single-aliquot, regenerative-dose protocol (SAR) for thermally-transferred optically stimulated luminescence (TT-OSL) was tested. Dose recovery tests, recycling and recuperation ratios showed robust functioning and dose response curves demonstrated the potential to extend the dose range to beyond 600 Gy. Multiple aliquot additive dose (MAAD) TT-OSL protocols were used to test for sensitivity changes in the SAR TT-OSL protocol up to doses of 1200 Gy. A strong dose dependent deviation of the SAR TT-OSL relative to the MAAD TT-OSL dose response is observed. Comparison of the TT-OSL and OSL sensitivity data obtained from the MAAD and SAR data sets shows a lack of proportionality between TT-OSL and OSL for the SAR data which will result in a problem when SAR dose response curves are constructed using many regeneration points with doses above 300 Gy.  相似文献

Energy-resolved optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) spectra and thermoluminescence (TL) glow curves of a powder sample of YPO4:Ce3+,Sm3+ were measured to investigate the nature of the trapping centre and to locate its energy level relative to the valence and conduction bands of the YPO4 host. The high-temperature glow peak could unequivocally be assigned to Sm2+ (thus Sm3+ acts as an electron trap). The trap depth of this centre, as derived from the OSL excitation spectra, is in good agreement with the Dorenbos model prediction. The OSL excitation spectra also reveal excited states of Sm2+ well below the conduction band. These excited states produce a broadening of the high-temperature TL glow peak and also cause the activation energy determined by the Hoogenstraten method to underestimate the trap depth.  相似文献

采用高温固相法合成了LiMgPO_4:Tm,Tb粉末样品,测定了热释光陷阱参数激发能E和频率因子s.用脉冲退火和多次退火方法研究了其光释光陷阱参数E和s,并与用多速法得到的热释光的结果进行了比较.对不同β射线剂量照射的样品发光曲线的研究表明,300°C高温峰属于一级动力学发光峰.通过对热释光和光释光陷阱的相关性研究表明,经200°C预热的热释光信号(对应于300°C高温峰)和光释光信号很有可能来自于同一深度的陷阱.  相似文献

Previous researchers have carried out Monte Carlo simulations of thermoluminescence (TL) phenomena by considering the allowed transitions of charge carriers between the conduction band, electron traps and recombination centers. Such simulations have demonstrated successfully the effect of trap clustering on the kinetics of charge carriers in a solid, and showed that trap clustering can significantly change the observed luminescence properties. While such Monte Carlo simulations have been carried out for TL, there has been no such trap clustering studies for optically stimulated luminescence phenomena (OSL). This paper presents a simplified method of carrying out Monte Carlo simulations for TL and linearly modulated optically stimulated luminescence (LM-OSL) phenomena, based on the General One Trap (GOT) model, which is a special case of the one trap one recombination center model (OTOR) when quasi-equilibrium conditions (QE) hold. The simulated results show that the presence of small clusters consisting of a few traps in a solid can lead to multiple peaks in both the TL and LM-OSL signals. The effects of retrapping and degree of trap filling are simulated for such multi-peak luminescence signals, and insight is obtained into the mechanism producing these peaks. The method presented in this paper can be easily generalized for other types of luminescence solids in which the recombination probability varies with time.  相似文献

Optical bleaching of the thermoluminescence (TL) curve of K2YF5:Pr3+ has been observed after optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) readout of pre-irradiated crystals. The traps being responsible for the TL signal are not emptied completely by the optical stimulation. Furthermore, if the illumination time is increased a constant intensity level of the residual TL glow curve is eventually achieved. On the other hand, if the low temperature peak of the glow curve is thermally cleaned, no subsequent OSL is measured. This behavior has been successfully explained by assuming that part of the electrons in the trap being responsible for the low temperature glow peak of K2YF5:Pr3+ recombine with holes via localized transitions during optical stimulation. During TL all trapped electrons recombine via delocalized transitions. Simulations have been carried out in order to demonstrate the feasibility of the model.  相似文献

研究了通过掺杂得到的SrSO4:Eu(01mol%)的粉末样品的光释光(OSL)特性.用90Sr的β射线辐照0116—116kGy后,测定了恒定光源激发的光释光发光曲线(CW-OSL)和线性光源激发的光释光发光曲线(LW-OSL),对发光曲线分析均得到了四种陷阱成分.采用复合作用响应函数得到SrSO4:Eu辐射剂量响应为线性-亚线性.测量了温度对OSL信号的影响,结果表明OSL信号的温度稳定性很好,最灵敏读出温度约为180℃,说明这时OSL信号来自热激发和光激发的共同作用.用60Coγ辐照100Gy后,测量了热释光(TL)三维光谱,确定了发光波长主要位于375nm,可以确定这是来自于Eu2+能级跃迁的发光. 关键词: 光释光 热释光 SrSO4:Eu  相似文献
