The GDPO algorithm for phase-1 of the dual simplex method developed by Maros possesses some interesting theoretical features that have potentially huge computational advantages. This paper gives account of a computational analysis of GDPO that has investigated how these features work in practice by exploring the internal operation of the algorithm. Experience of a systematic study involving 48 problems gives an insight how the predicted performance advantages materialize that ultimately make GDPO an indispensable tool for dual phase-1.  相似文献

Multiplicative programming problems (MPPs) are global optimization problems known to be NP-hard. In this paper, we employ algorithms developed to compute the entire set of nondominated points of multi-objective linear programmes (MOLPs) to solve linear MPPs. First, we improve our own objective space cut and bound algorithm for convex MPPs in the special case of linear MPPs by only solving one linear programme in each iteration, instead of two as the previous version indicates. We call this algorithm, which is based on Benson’s outer approximation algorithm for MOLPs, the primal objective space algorithm. Then, based on the dual variant of Benson’s algorithm, we propose a dual objective space algorithm for solving linear MPPs. The dual algorithm also requires solving only one linear programme in each iteration. We prove the correctness of the dual algorithm and use computational experiments comparing our algorithms to a recent global optimization algorithm for linear MPPs from the literature as well as two general global optimization solvers to demonstrate the superiority of the new algorithms in terms of computation time. Thus, we demonstrate that the use of multi-objective optimization techniques can be beneficial to solve difficult single objective global optimization problems.  相似文献

In this paper we use an approach which uses a superharmonic property of a sequence of functions generated by an algorithm to show that these functions converge in a non-increasing manner to the optimal value function for our problem, and bounds are given for the loss of optimality if the computational process is terminated at any iteration. The basic procedure is to add an additional linear term at each iteration, selected by solving a particular optimisation problem, for which primal and dual linear programming formulations are given.  相似文献

In this paper, a new trust region algorithm for nonlinear equality constrained LC^1 optimization problems is given. It obtains a search direction at each iteration not by solving a quadratic programming subproblem with a trust region bound, but by solving a system of linear equations. Since the computational complexity of a QP-Problem is in general much larger than that of a system of linear equations, this method proposed in this paper may reduce the computational complexity and hence improve computational efficiency. Furthermore, it is proved under appropriate assumptions that this algorithm is globally and super-linearly convergent to a solution of the original problem. Some numerical examples are reported, showing the proposed algorithm can be beneficial from a computational point of view.  相似文献

本文对非线性不等式约束优化问题提出了一个新的可行 QP-free 算法. 新算法保存了现有算法的优点, 并具有以下特性: (1) 算法每次迭代只需求解三个具有相同系数矩阵的线性方程组, 计算量小; (2) 可行下降方向只需通过求解一个线性方程组即可获得, 克服了以往分别求解两个线性方程组获得下降方向和可行方向, 然后再做凸组合的困难;(3) 迭代点均为可行点, 并不要求是严格内点; (4) 算法中采用了试探性线搜索,可以进一步减少计算量; (5) 算法中参数很少,数值试验表明算法具有较好的数值效果和较强的稳定性.  相似文献

In this paper,we studied the dual form of the basic line algorthm for linear programs.It can be easily implemented in tableau that similar to the primal/dual simplex method.Different from primal simplex method or dual simplex method,the dual basic line algorithm can keep primal feasibility and dual feasibility at the same time in a tableau,which makes it more efficient than the former ones.Principles and convergence of dual basic line algorthm were discussed.Some examplex and computational experience were given to illustrate the efficiency of our method.  相似文献

This article presents a polynomial predictor-corrector interior-point algorithm for convex quadratic programming based on a modified predictor-corrector interior-point algorithm. In this algorithm, there is only one corrector step after each predictor step, where Step 2 is a predictor step and Step 4 is a corrector step in the algorithm. In the algorithm, the predictor step decreases the dual gap as much as possible in a wider neighborhood of the central path and the corrector step draws iteration points back to a narrower neighborhood and make a reduction for the dual gap. It is shown that the algorithm has O(n~(1/2)L) iteration complexity which is the best result for convex quadratic programming so far.  相似文献

Recently, a linear programming problem solver, called dual projective simplex method, was proposed (Pan, Computers and Mathematics with Applications, vol. 35, no. 6, pp. 119–135, 1998). This algorithm requires a crash procedure to provide an initial (normal or deficient) basis. In this paper, it is recast in a more compact form so that it can get itself started from scratch with any dual (basic or nonbasic) feasible solution. A new dual Phase-1 approach for producing such a solution is proposed. Reported are also computational results obtained with a set of standard NETLIB problems.  相似文献

We introduce new augmented Lagrangian algorithms for linear programming which provide faster global convergence rates than the augmented algorithm of Polyak and Treti'akov. Our algorithm shares the same properties as the Polyak-Treti'akov algorithm in that it terminates in finitely many iterations and obtains both primal and dual optimal solutions. We present an implementable version of the algorithm which requires only approximate minimization at each iteration. We provide a global convergence rate for this version of the algorithm and show that the primal and dual points generated by the algorithm converge to the primal and dual optimal set, respectively.  相似文献

We introduce a class of models for multidimensional control problems that we call skip-free Markov decision processes on trees. We describe and analyse an algorithm applicable to Markov decision processes of this type that are skip-free in the negative direction. Starting with the finite average cost case, we show that the algorithm combines the advantages of both value iteration and policy iteration—it is guaranteed to converge to an optimal policy and optimal value function after a finite number of iterations but the computational effort required for each iteration step is comparable with that for value iteration. We show that the algorithm can also be used to solve discounted cost models and continuous-time models, and that a suitably modified algorithm can be used to solve communicating models.  相似文献

In this article we present the fundamental idea, concepts and theorems of a basic line search algorithm for solving linear programming problems which can be regarded as an extension of the simplex method. However, unlike the iteration of the simplex method from a basic point to an improved adjacent basic point via pivot operation, the basic line search algorithm, also by pivot operation, moves from a basic line which contains two basic feasible points to an improved basic line which also contains two basic feasible points whose objective values are no worse than that of the two basic feasible points on the previous basic line. The basic line search algorithm may skip some adjacent vertices so that it converges to an optimal solution faster than the simplex method. For example, for a 2-dimensional problem, the basic line search algorithm can find an optimal solution with only one iteration.  相似文献

A new algorithm for solving large-scale convex optimization problems with a separable objective function is proposed. The basic idea is to combine three techniques: Lagrangian dual decomposition, excessive gap and smoothing. The main advantage of this algorithm is that it automatically and simultaneously updates the smoothness parameters which significantly improves its performance. The convergence of the algorithm is proved under weak conditions imposed on the original problem. The rate of convergence is $O(\frac {1}{k})$ , where k is the iteration counter. In the second part of the paper, the proposed algorithm is coupled with a dual scheme to construct a switching variant in a dual decomposition framework. We discuss implementation issues and make a theoretical comparison. Numerical examples confirm the theoretical results.  相似文献

By perturbing properly a linear program to a separable quadratic program it is possible to solve the latter in its dual variable space by iterative techniques such as sparsity-preserving SOR (successive overtaxation techniques). In this way large sparse linear programs can be handled.

In this paper we give a new computational criterion to check whether the solution of the perturbed quadratic program provides the least 2-norm solution of the original linear program. This criterion improves on the criterion proposed in an earlier paper.

We also describe an algorithm for solving linear programs which is based on the SOR methods. The main property of this algorithm is that, under mild assumptions, it finds the least 2-norm solution of a linear program in a finite number of iteration.s  相似文献
