Complete local domains play an important role in commutative algebra and algebraic geometry, and their algebraic properties were already described by Cohen’s structure theorem in 1946. However, the Galois theoretic properties of their quotient fields only recently began to unfold. In 2005 Harbater and Stevenson considered the two dimensional case. They proved that the absolute Galois group of the field K((X, Y)) (where K is an arbitrary field) is semi-free. In this work we settle the general case, and prove that if R is a complete local domain of dimension exceeding 1, then the quotient field of R has a semi-free absolute Galois group.  相似文献

We prove the modularity of certain residually reducible p-adic Galois representations of an imaginary quadratic field assuming the uniqueness of the residual representation. We obtain an R = T theorem using a new commutative algebra criterion that might be of independent interest. To apply the criterion, one needs to show that the quotient of the universal deformation ring R by its ideal of reducibility is cyclic Artinian of order no greater than the order of the congruence module T/J, where J is an Eisenstein ideal in the local Hecke algebra T. The inequality is proven by applying the Main conjecture of Iwasawa Theory for Hecke characters and using a result of Berger [Compos Math 145(3):603–632, 2009]. This strengthens our previous result [Berger and Klosin, J Inst Math Jussieu 8(4):669–692, 2009] to include the cases of an arbitrary p-adic valuation of the L-value, in particular, cases when R is not a discrete valuation ring. As a consequence we show that the Eisenstein ideal is principal and that T is a complete intersection.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to the introduction of extension rings S : = R[x]/gR[x] with a suitable polynomial g ? R[x] of arbitrary commutative rings R with identity and to the development of a normal basis concept of S over R, which is similar to that of Galois extensions of finite fields. We prove new results for Galois extensions of local rings and apply them together with the Chinese remainder theorem to solve the above task in a constructive way.  相似文献

Consider a valuation ringR of a discrete Henselian field and a positive integerr. LetF be the quotient field of the ringR[[X 1, …,X r ]]. We prove that every finite group occurs as a Galois group overF. In particular, ifK 0 is an arbitrary field andr≥2, then every finite group occurs as a Galois group overK 0((X 1, …,X r )). In [4] the authors studied the residue field of a model M of IΔ0 + Ω1 for the principal ideal generated by a prime p. One of the main results is that M/<p> has a unique extension of each finite degree. In this paper we are interested in understanding the structure of any quotient field of M, i.e. we will study the quotient M/I for I a maximal ideal of M. We prove that any quotient field of M satisfies the property of having a unique extension of each finite degree. We will use some of Cherlin's ideas from [3], where he studies the ideal theory of non standard algebraic integers.  相似文献

LetR be an integral domain whose quotient field is an algebraic number field. Cooke and Weinberger [4] showed that, assuming the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis, ifR is a principal ideal domain and has infinite unit group, thenR is 4-stage Euclidean with the absolute value of the norm as algorithm. We remove the assumption of the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis from this result for totally real Galois extensions of ℚ of degree greater than or equal to three, replacing it with the requirement of finding sufficiently many prime elements ofR, ℚ such that the unit group ofR maps onto (R/((π1⋯π r )2))* via the reduction map. A similar result holds for real quadratic fields.  相似文献

Let R be a ring and ρ a right ideal of R with zero right annihilate. Then ρ and R have the same left Utumi quotient ring. We study the lifting properties of GPIs and some chain conditions inherited by such right ideals. Next, we prove a generalization of Chatters’ theorem. Precisely, we show that if R is a right nonsingular ring with finite right Goldie dimension and possesses a right ideal ρ such that both ρ and l R(ρ) are PI-rings, then the right Utumi quotient ring of R is also a Pi-ring.  相似文献

We establish duality and vanishing results for the cohomology of the Weil group of a p-adic field. Among them is a duality theorem for finitely generated modules, which implies Tate–Nakayama Duality. We prove comparison results with Galois cohomology, which imply that the cohomology of the Weil group determines that of the Galois group. When the module is defined by an abelian variety, we use these comparison results to establish a duality theorem analogous to Tate?s duality theorem for abelian varieties over p-adic fields.  相似文献

Let L ? K be an infinite Galois field extension with the property that every finite Galois extension M ? K, where L ? M, has a self-dual normal basis. We prove a self-dual normal basis theorem for L ? K when char (K) ≠2.  相似文献

We show that solvable absolute Galois groups have an abelian normal subgroup such that the quotient is the direct product of two finite cyclic and a torsion-free procyclic group. In particular, solvable absolute Galois groups are metabelian. Moreover, any field with solvable absolute Galois group G admits a non-trivial henselian valuation, unless each Sylow-subgroup of G is either procyclic or isomorphic to Z 2Z/2Z. A complete classification of solvable absolute Galois groups (up to isomorphism) is given. Oblatum 22-IV-1998 & 1-IX-2000?Published online: 30 October 2000  相似文献

We consider L-functions attached to representations of the Galois group of the function field of a curve over a finite field. Under mild tameness hypotheses, we prove non-vanishing results for twists of these L-functions by characters of order prime to the characteristic of the ground field and more generally by certain representations with solvable image. We also allow local restrictions on the twisting representation at finitely many places. Our methods are geometric, and include the Riemann-Roch theorem, the cohomological interpretation of L-functions, and monodromy calculations of Katz. As an application, we prove a result which allows one to deduce the conjecture of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer for non-isotrivial elliptic curves over function fields whose L-function vanishes to order at most 1 from a suitable Gross-Zagier formula.  相似文献

We consider a potentially Barsotti-Tate deformation problem of a modular Galois representation. By constructing a Diamond-Taylor-Wiles system, we prove an R = T theorem and a multiplicity one result in characteristic 0. Applying this result, we then prove a multiplicity one result in characteristic p, which provides certain evidence for a conjecture of Breuil.  相似文献

We develop a notion of differentiability over an algebraically closed field K of characteristic zero with respect to a maximal real closed subfield R. We work in the context of an o-minimal expansion ? \cal {R} of the field R and obtain many of the standard results in complex analysis in this setting. In doing so we use the topological approach to complex analysis developed by Whyburn and others. We then prove a model theoretic theorem that states that the field R is definable in every proper expansion of the field K all of whose atomic relations are definable in ? \cal {R} . One corollary of this result is the classical theorem of Chow on projective analytic sets.  相似文献

The existence of a Picard-Vessiot extension for a homogeneous linear differential equation has been established when the differential field over which the equation is defined has an algebraically closed field of constants. In this paper, we prove the existence of a Picard-Vessiot extension for a homogeneous linear differential equation defined over a real differential field K with real closed field of constants. We give an adequate definition of the differential Galois group of a Picard-Vessiot extension of a real differential field with real closed field of constants and we prove a Galois correspondence theorem for such a Picard-Vessiot extension.  相似文献

We consider massless elementary particles in a quantum theory based on a Galois field (GFQT). We previously showed that the theory has a new symmetry between particles and antiparticles, which has no analogue in the standard approach. We now prove that the symmetry is compatible with all operators describing massless particles. Consequently, massless elementary particles can have only half-integer spin (in conventional units), and the existence of massless neutral elementary particles is incompatible with the spin–statistics theorem. In particular, this implies that the photon and the graviton in the GFQT can only be composite particles.  相似文献

Abstract

We prove that under conditions of regularity the maximal left quotient ring of a corner of a ring is the corner of the maximal left quotient ring. We show that if R and S are two non-unital Morita equivalent rings then their maximal left quotient rings are not necessarily Morita equivalent. This situation contrasts with the unital case. However we prove that the ideals generated by two Morita equivalent idempotent rings inside their own maximal left quotient rings are Morita equivalent.  相似文献

Complex functions χ(m) where m belongs to a Galois field GF(p ), are considered. Fourier transforms, displacements in the GF(p GF(p ) phase space and symplectic transforms of these functions are studied. It is shown that the formalism inherits many features from the theory of Galois fields. For example, Frobenius transformations and Galois groups are introduced in the present context. The relationship between harmonic analysis on GF(p ) and harmonic analysis on its subfields, is studied.   相似文献
