A frequency-domain finite element (FE) method is presented for modeling the scattering of plane guided waves incident on an infinitely-long, straight feature with uniform cross-section in a planar host waveguide. The method utilizes a mesh of 2-dimensional finite elements with harmonic shape functions in the perpendicular direction. The model domain comprises a cross-section through the feature and short lengths of the adjoining host waveguide. A spatial frequency equal to the wavenumber of the desired incident mode multiplied by the sine of the desired incidence angle is prescribed for the element shape functions. An integral representation of the incident mode is used to determine a suitable system of harmonic forces to uniquely excite that mode. These are applied at nodes through the thickness of the host waveguide on one side of the feature. The displacement field is measured at nodes through the thickness of the host waveguide on either side of the feature and decomposed into reflected and transmitted modes. The cases of guided wave transmission in a featureless waveguide and the reflection of guided waves from a free-edge are examined as validation cases. Finally, the results for transmission at an adhesively-bonded stiffener are presented and compared with experimental measurements.  相似文献

利用严格电磁理论,推导出了适用于负折射率介质材料光波导的转移矩阵,分析讨论了转移矩阵的性质和应用.利用转移矩阵方法,推导出导波层为负折射率介质材料、覆盖层和衬底为右手材料的三层对称介质光波导的本征色散方程.用图解法研究了负折射率介质波导中TE波的异常色散特性.在负折射材料介质波导中没有零阶模,最低阶为1阶模,并且有截止频率,只有波导参量满足一定条件的时候才会存在,导模的横向波数可以为实数和纯虚数,而正折射率介质波导导模的横向波数只能为实数.  相似文献

We study theoretically the influence of a circular metallic waveguide with a longitudinal magnetic field on the synchrotron radiation of a point electric charge moving along a helical trajectory coaxial with the waveguide axis. The main attention is focused on the analysis of the energy characteristics of radiation of electromagnetic E and H waves. We derive the formulas for the radiation powers of E and H waves. It is shown that, under certain conditions, slowly moving electric charges do not radiate any of these electromagnetic waves in the circular waveguide.  相似文献

Based on an effective medium approach, we investigate the problem of radiation of a short vertical electric dipole embedded in a metal-backed dielectric rod array. We obtain the radiated electromagnetic field in the form of a Sommerfeld integral, and calculate the near and far electric fields for both lossless and lossy rod arrays. The characteristic equation for the guided modes is derived and solved. The guided modes are found to be slow waves and their propagation constants and modal distributions are extracted. All theoretical results are compared with full-wave simulations.  相似文献

By the means of the guided wave theory, the scattering of SH guided wave by a circular inclusion in an infinite piezoelectric material strip is investigated. With the aid of repeated image superposition, the analytical expression of scattering wave is conducted, which satisfies the stress free and electric insulation conditions on the upper and lower horizontal boundaries of the strip. According to the boundary condition, integral equation is set up and analytical expression of dynamic stress concentration factor and electric field intensity concentration factor are obtained. The influence of the order of guided waves, the physical parameters of the medium and position of the circular inclusion on the dynamic stress concentration factor and electric field intensity concentration factor are analyzed and compared with the existing literature in calculating example.  相似文献

We study a nonintegrable discrete nonlinear Schr?dinger (dNLS) equation with the term of nonlinear nearest-neighbor interaction occurred in nonlinear optical waveguide arrays. By using discrete Fourier transformation, we obtain numerical approximations of stationary and travelling solitary wave solutions of the nonintegrable dNLS equation. The analysis of stability of stationary solitary waves is performed. It is shown that the nonlinear nearest-neighbor interaction term has great influence on the form of solitary wave. The shape of solitary wave is important in the electric field propagating. If we neglect the nonlinear nearest-neighbor interaction term, much important information in the electric field propagating may be missed. Our numerical simulation also demonstrates the difference of chaos phenomenon between the nonintegrable dNLS equation with nonlinear nearest-neighbor interaction and another nonintegrable dNLS equation without the term.  相似文献

Based on classical electromagnetic theory, characteristics of guided modes in a rectangular waveguide filled with a pair of single-negative layers are studied. The results show that only surface waves of TE mode can propagate in this peculiar waveguide, no TM mode in any forms can propagate in it. In addition, TE waveguide modes will be affected by permeability ratio μ1/μ2 and dielectric layer thickness ratio P. Finally, from the electric field distribution of TE mode, we find the amplitude and location of the electric field can be adjusted by changing the thickness ratio P.  相似文献

We investigate the guided waves in a three-layered planar waveguide, with one layer filled with air and the other two filled with the chiral nihility material. We have shown that no electric field exists in the chiral layers. However, the magnetic fields are nonzero within the chiral regions due to the decoupling between electric and magnetic fields. The disappearance of the electric field is caused by the negative reflections for two egienwaves in the chiral nihility at the boundaries of the planar waveguide. The electromagnetic energies can only be guided away from the source in the air layer. Simulation results have validated our theoretical analysis.  相似文献

The theoretical investigation of terahertz waves and their excitation by electron beam injection in a cylindrical metallic plasma waveguide is investigated. This metallic waveguide includes a cold collisionless unmagnetized annular degenerate plasma and a dielectric rod. The dispersion characteristics of these waves, the frequency spectra of fast and slow E-modes waves (transverse magnetic field), are studied. Also, the effects of the dielectric permittivity, the radius of the dielectric rod and the radius of the plasma on the frequency spectra and the time growth rate of waves are simulated. In addition, the electric field profiles in this waveguide are plotted.  相似文献

We use a recently developed numerical technique in order to evaluate the renormalized effective action of a spin 1/2 field with a chiral mass term, the chiral angle being given by a static hedgehog configuration. The method is based on the use of Euclidean Green's functions. The divergent parts are regularized and renormalized analytically. For the sum over all convergent contributions we obtain an exact expression that can be evaluated numerically. A precarious numerical subtraction of the divergent parts is avoided by making use of integral equations for the partial waves.  相似文献

The possibility of using ultrasonic guided waves for monitoring the cure process of epoxy resins is investigated. The two techniques presented use a wire waveguide which is partly embedded in the resin. The first technique is based on the measurement of attenuation due to leakage of bulk waves into the resin surrounding the waveguide. The second technique measures the reflection of the guided wave that occurs at the point where the waveguide enters the resin. Both the attenuation and the reflection coefficient change significantly during cure, and the numerical methods to relate these to the material properties of the curing resin are presented in this paper. The results from the modeling are experimentally verified and show good agreement. The applicability of each testing method is discussed, and typical cure-monitoring curves are presented.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate the band structure of guided modes in a segmented planar waveguide for the terahertz range. The dispersion curves are obtained using two different methods. The first approach is based on a close relationship between the band structure and narrow resonances in transmission spectra: transmission spectra are therefore calculated using a transfer matrix method and compared to the experimental ones. The second technique involves a modal analysis approach of diffraction gratings and it is used for direct calculation of the band structure. Propagation of THz guided waves along the grating considered as a segmented dielectric waveguide is also investigated using a bi-directional mode expansion and propagation method. All approaches are compared to each other and discussed.  相似文献

We consider dispersion relations and field structure of TE-polarized guided waves travelling along an asymmetric dielectric slab surrounded by two different nonlinear media. For a given configuration there are four types of guided waves. Three of this four types possess at least one field maximum outside the slab region and have no counterpart in linear waveguide optics. The solutions of the dispersion relations depend now on an additional parameter making them more flexible with respect to the linear limit.  相似文献

What are believed to be the first experimental observations of the existence of long-range plasmon-polariton waves, guided by a thin metal film of finite width, are presented. A waveguide composed of an 8-mum-wide, 20-nm-thick, 3.5-mm-long Au metal film embedded in SiO (2) was successfully excited at a free-space wavelength of 1.55 mum in an end-fire experiment. The theoretical nature of the phenomenon is described, and experimental observations of field confinement provided by this metal waveguide are presented in detail.  相似文献

In this work we investigate the linear and nonlinear coupling properties of a novel multicore circular dielectric waveguide. The proposed device consists of a circular central core and many circular sectoral cores at the periphery, while the whole structure can be considered as a nonlinear multicore composite optical coupler. Hybrid guided modes in a circular sectoral dielectric waveguide are derived using circular harmonic expansion for the electromagnetic fields and the Point Matching Method (PMM) for the application of boundary conditions. Several cases are investigated varying some of the parameters of the geometry and the optical frequency in order to produce dispersion diagrams. In advance, the electric and magnetic field distributions for the fundamental guided modes are produced, while linear and nonlinear coupling coefficients as well as the sectoral waveguide mode effective area are derived.  相似文献

使用时域有限差分法,研究了各向异性特异材料(AMM)作为包层的AMM/介质/AMM波导中表面等离子体的共振性质.色散关系表明,当特异材料为负磁导率的always-cutoff型时,AMM/介质/AMM波导支持TE极化的表面等离子体,表面等离子体的波长随着中间介质层的厚度和特异材料磁等离子体频率的减小而变短.在有限长度AMM/介质/AMM波导中,由于两端界面的反射,表面等离子体模在波导中形成Fabry-Perot共振,而实现亚波长的表面等离子体微腔.在共振频率,电场强度在微腔的中部达到最大值,而磁场分别在两端界面处达到最大,电磁能强局域在中间介质层中,这一性质将在可调的具有强局域特性的亚波长微腔及腔量子电动力学中具有潜在的应用.  相似文献
