Abstract

The nonplanar, nonlinear, resonant forced oscillations of a fixed-free beam are analyzed by a perturbation technique with the objective of determining quantitative and qualitative information about the response. The analysis is based on the differential equations of motion developed in Part I of this paper which retain not only the nonlinear inertia but also nonlinear curvature effects. It is shown that the latter play a significant role in the nonlinear flexural response of the beam.  相似文献

In this study, the nonlinear vibrations of an axially moving beam are investigated by considering the coupling of the longitudinal and transversal motion. The Galerkin method is used to truncate the governing partial differential equations into a set of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations. By detuning the axially velocity, the exact parameters with which the system may turn to internal resonance are detected. The method of multiple scales is applied to the governing equations to study the nonlinear dynamics of the steady-state response caused by the internal–external resonance. The saturation and jump phenomena of such system have been reported by investigating the nonlinear amplitude–response curves with respect to external excitation, internal, and external detuning parameters. The longitudinal external excitation may trigger only longitudinal response when excitation amplitude is weak. However, beyond the critical excitation amplitude, the response energy will be transferred from the longitudinal motion to the transversal motion even the excitation is employed on the longitudinal direction. Such energy transfer due to saturation has the potential to be used in the vibration suppression.  相似文献

The flexural vibration of a symmetrically laminated composite cantilever beam carrying a sliding mass under harmonic base excitations is investigated. An internally mounted oscillator constrained to move along the beam is employed in order to fulfill a multi-task that consists of both attenuating the beam vibrations in a resonance status and harvesting this residual energy as a complementary subtask. The set of nonlinear partial differential equations of motion derived by Hamilton’s principle are reduced and semi-analytically solved by the successive application of Galerkin’s and the multiple-scales perturbation methods. It is shown that by properly tuning the natural frequencies of the system, internal resonance condition can be achieved. Stability of fixed points and bifurcation of steady-state solutions are studied for internal and external resonances status. It results that transfer of energy or modal saturation phenomenon occurs between vibrational modes of the beam and the sliding mass motion through fulfilling an internal resonance condition. This study also reveals that absorbers can be successfully implemented inside structures without affecting their functionality and encumbering additional space but can also be designed to convert transverse vibrations into internal longitudinal oscillations exploitable in a straightforward manner to produce electrical energy.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the finite amplitude, free, planar oscillations of a thin elastic beam. By assuming the motion to be inextensional but at the same time recognizing the existence of a resultant normal force acting on each cross-section of the beam a system of governing equations is derived which is manageable but still meaningful. For the case of the simply-supported beam a finite difference, Galerkin, and (regular) perturbation solutions are explicitly obtained. The results are compared and discussed. In the course of obtaining the various solutions it is found that an additional simplification in the form of the governing equations is possible. This simplification turns out to be quite important from a general point of view of obtaining approximate analytical solutions.  相似文献

Nonlinear differential equations of the fifth order, which govern the oscillations of the human vocal cords, are analyzed. A combined numerical technique is used to observe the regular and irregular solutions of these equations. A scenario from periodic, via quasiperiodic to chaotic attractor is demonstrated. A perturbation of the strange chaotic attractor to principal, combination and primary resonances is also discussed and illustrated.  相似文献

The nonlinear dynamics of DNA molecular chain is studied for longitudinal and transversal motions through a new discrete helicoidal zigzag model with four degrees of freedom. We take into account the Stokes and hydrodynamical viscous forces. In the semi-discrete approximation, we show that the coupled nonlinear partial differential equations for the longitudinal and transversal out-of-phase motions can be reduced to the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with complex coefficients, allowing analytical breather soliton solution. We found analytically as well as numerically that increasing the damping constant reduces the amplitude and increases the width of the soliton. When the zigzag angle decreases, the height of the soliton increases, but its width remains constant. The linear stability analysis of the system is performed. The growth rate of the instability and the instability regions are discussed as the functions of damping constant, zigzag angle and system parameters.  相似文献

Nonlinear dynamics of an inclined beam subjected to a moving load   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper, the nonlinear dynamic response of an inclined pinned-pinned beam with a constant cross section, finite length subjected to a concentrated vertical force traveling with a constant velocity is investigated. The study is focused on the mode summation method and also on frequency analysis of the governing PDEs equations of motion. Furthermore, the steady-state response is studied by applying the multiple scales method. The nonlinear response of the beam is obtained by solving two coupled nonlinear PDEs governing equations of planar motion for both longitudinal and transverse oscillations of the beam. The dynamic magnification factor and normalized time histories of mid-pint of the beam are obtained for various load velocity ratios and the outcome results have been illustrated and compared to the results with those obtained from traditional linear solution. The appropriate parametric study considering the effects of the linear viscous damping, the velocity of the traveling load, beam inclination angle under zero or nonzero axial load are carried out to capture the influence of the effect of large deflections caused by stretching effects due to the beam’s immovable ends. It was seen that quadratic nonlinearity renders the softening effect on the dynamic response of the beam under the act of traveling load. Also in the case where the object leaves the inclined beam, its planar motion path is derived and the targeting accuracy is investigated and compared with those from the rigid solution assumption. Moreover, the stability analysis of steady-state response for the modes equations having quadratic nonlinearity was carried out and it was observed from the frequency response curves that for the considered parameters in the case of internal-external primary resonance, both saturation phenomenon and jump phenomenon can be predicted for the longitudinal excitation.  相似文献

The paper develops an approximate solution to the system of Euler’s equations with additional perturbation term for dynamically symmetric rotating rigid body. The perturbed motions of a rigid body, close to Lagrange’s case, under the action of restoring and perturbation torques that are slowly varying in time are investigated. We describe an averaging procedure for slow variables of a rigid body perturbed motion, similar to Lagrange top. Conditions for the possibility of averaging the equations of motion with respect to the nutation phase angle are presented. The averaging technique reduces the system order from 6 to 3 and does not contain fast oscillations. An example of motion of the body using linearly dissipative torques is worked out to demonstrate the use of general equations. The numerical integration of the averaged system of equations is conducted of the body motion. The graphical presentations of the solutions are represented and discussed. A new class of rotations of a dynamically symmetric rigid body about a fixed point with account for a nonstationary perturbation torque, as well as for a restoring torque that slowly varies with time, is studied. The main objective of this paper is to extend the previous results for problem of the dynamic motion of a symmetric rigid body subjected to perturbation and restoring torques. The proposed averaging method is implemented to receive the averaging system of equations of motion. The graphical representations of the solutions are presented and discussed. The attained results are a generalization of our former works where µ and Mi are independent of the slow time τ and Mi depend on the slow time only.

This paper presents the analysis of the global bifurcations and chaotic dynamics for the nonlinear nonplanar oscillations of a cantilever beam subjected to a harmonic axial excitation and transverse excitations at the free end. The governing nonlinear equations of nonplanar motion with parametric and external excitations are obtained. The Galerkin procedure is applied to the partial differential governing equation to obtain a two-degree-of-freedom nonlinear system with parametric and forcing excitations. The resonant case considered here is 2:1 internal resonance, principal parametric resonance-1/2 subharmonic resonance for the in-plane mode and fundamental parametric resonance–primary resonance for the out-of-plane mode. The parametrically and externally excited system is transformed to the averaged equations by using the method of multiple scales. From the averaged equation obtained here, the theory of normal form is applied to find the explicit formulas of normal forms associated with a double zero and a pair of pure imaginary eigenvalues. Based on the normal form obtained above, a global perturbation method is utilized to analyze the global bifurcations and chaotic dynamics in the nonlinear nonplanar oscillations of the cantilever beam. The global bifurcation analysis indicates that there exist the heteroclinic bifurcations and the Silnikov type single-pulse homoclinic orbit in the averaged equation for the nonlinear nonplanar oscillations of the cantilever beam. These results show that the chaotic motions can occur in the nonlinear nonplanar oscillations of the cantilever beam. Numerical simulations verify the analytical predictions.  相似文献

The nonlinear global forced dynamics of an axially moving viscoelastic beam, while both longitudinal and transverse displacements are taken into account, is examined employing a numerical technique. The equations of motion are derived using Newton′s second law of motion, resulting in two partial differential equations for the longitudinal and transverse motions. A two-parameter rheological Kelvin–Voigt energy dissipation mechanism is employed for the viscoelastic structural model, in which the material, not partial, time derivative is used in the viscoelastic constitutive relations; this gives additional terms due to the simultaneous presence of the material damping and the axial speed. The equations of motion for both longitudinal and transverse motions are then discretized via Galerkin’s method, in which the eigenfunctions for the transverse motion of a hinged-hinged linear stationary beam are chosen as the basis functions. The subsequent set of nonlinear ordinary equations is solved numerically by means of the direct time integration via modified Rosenbrock method, resulting in the bifurcation diagrams of Poincaré maps. The results are also presented in the form of time histories, phase-plane portraits, and fast Fourier transform (FFTs) for specific sets of parameters.  相似文献

Nonlinear oscillations of viscoelastic simply supported rectangular plates are studied by assuming the Voigt–Kelvin constitutive model. Using Hamilton's principle in conjunction with the kinematics associated with Kirchhoff's plate model, the governing equations of motion including the effect of damping are represented in terms of the transversal deflection and a stress function. Utilizing the Bubnov–Galerkin method, the nonlinear partial differential equations are reduced to an ordinary differential equation which is studied geometrically by approximate construction of the Poincaré maps. Explicit expressions are given for periodic solutions.  相似文献

Melnikov's method for rigid bodies subject to small perturbation torques   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Summary In this paper, the global motion of rigid bodies subjected to small perturbation torques, either conservative or dissipative, is investigated by means of Melnikov's method. Deprit's variables are introduced to transform the equations of motion into a standard form which is rendered suitable for the application of Melnikov's method. The Melnikov method is used to predict the transversal intersections of stable and unstable manifolds for the pertubed rigid-body motion. The chosen examples are a self-excited rigid body subject to a small periodic torque in a viscous medium, and the heavy rigid body. It is shown in both cases that there exist transversal intersections of heteroclinic orbits for certain ranges of parameter values.  相似文献

In the presented paper the equations of motion of a rotating composite Timoshenko beam are derived by utilising the Hamilton principle. The non-classical effects like material anisotropy, transverse shear and both primary and secondary cross-section warpings are taken into account in the analysis. As an extension of the other papers known to the authors a nonconstant rotating speed and an arbitrary beam’s preset (pitch) angle are considered. It is shown that the resulting general equations of motion are coupled together and form a nonlinear system of PDEs. Two cases of an open and closed box-beam cross-section made of symmetric laminate are analysed in details. It is shown that considering different pitch angles there is a strong effect in coupling of flapwise bending with chordwise bending motions due to a centrifugal force. Moreover, a consequence of terms related to nonconstant rotating speed is presented. Therefore it is shown that both the variable rotating speed and nonzero pitch angle have significant impact on systems dynamics and need to be considered in modelling of rotating beams.  相似文献

The three-dimensional nonlinear planar dynamics of an axially moving Timoshenko beam is investigated in this paper by means of two numerical techniques. The equations of motion for the longitudinal, transverse, and rotational motions are derived using constitutive relations and via Hamilton’s principle. The Galerkin method is employed to discretize the three partial differential equations of motion, yielding a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations with coupled terms. This set is solved using the pseudo-arclength continuation technique so as to plot frequency-response curves of the system for different cases. Bifurcation diagrams of Poincaré maps for the system near the first instability are obtained via direct time integration of the discretized equations. Time histories, phase-plane portraits, and fast Fourier transforms are presented for some system parameters.  相似文献

Dynamics of a Flexible Cantilever Beam Carrying a Moving Mass   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
The motion of a flexible cantilever beam carrying a moving spring-mass system is investigated. The beam is assumed to be an Euler–Bernouli beam. The motion of the system is described by a set of two nonlinear coupled partial differential equations where the coupling terms have to be evaluated at the position of the mass. The nonlinearities arise due to the coupling between the mass and the beam. Due to the nonlinearities the system exhibits internal resonance which is investigated in this work. The equations of motion are solved numerically using the Rayleigh–Ritz method and an automatic ODE solver. An approximate solution using the perturbation method of multiple scales is also obtained.  相似文献

Large amplitude, flexural oscillations of an inextensible, linearly elastic, pressurized ring are analyzed. Non-linear governing equations describing the planar motion of a thin rod curved in its undeformed state and subject to a distributed load applied normal to the neutral axis are developed using Hamilton's extended principle. The equations are specialized to study the behavior of a circular ring, and approximate solutions are obtained for a single mode response by a perturbation technique. Free, undamped oscillations and forced response of the ring near resonance are discussed. The influence of the magnitude of pressurization on the non-linear character of the motion is investigated.  相似文献

We consider a gravity-oriented rigid body on a circular Keplerian orbit in a central gravitational field. The motion of the body is affected by a perturbation torque given by a cubic approximation. With the inclusion of the third infinitesimal terms, we introduce a new notation for the differential equations of disturbed motion. This form generalizes the familiar equations in canonical variations extending them to the case where both the potential and the non-potential disturbing forces are operative. This form is convenient for the analysis of non-linear oscillations of a body about its center of mass with the use of the asymptotic methods of non-linear mechanics.  相似文献
