Let M be a smooth compact (orientable or not) surface with or without a boundary. Let $ \mathcal{D}_0 $ \mathcal{D}_0 ⊂ Diff(M) be the group of diffeomorphisms homotopic to id M . Two smooth functions f, g: M → ℝ are called isotopic if f = h 2gh 1 for some diffeomorphisms h 1 ∈ $ \mathcal{D}_0 $ \mathcal{D}_0 and h 2 ∈ Diff+(ℝ). Let F be the space of Morse functions on M which are constant on each boundary component and have no critical points on the boundary. A criterion for two Morse functions from F to be isotopic is proved. For each Morse function fF, a collection of Morse local coordinates in disjoint circular neighborhoods of its critical points is constructed, which continuously and Diff(M)-equivariantly depends on f in C -topology on F (“uniform Morse lemma”). Applications of these results to the problem of describing the homotopy type of the space F are formulated.

Let M be a smooth compact surface, orientable or not, with boundary or without it, P either the real line 1 or the circle S 1, and D(M) the group of diffeomorphisms of M acting on C^∞(M, P) by the rule hf = fh −1 for hD(M) and fC^∞ (M,P). Let f: MP be an arbitrary Morse mapping, Σ f the set of critical points of f, D(M f ) the subgroup of D(M) preserving Σ f , and S(f), S (f f ), O(f), and O(f f ) the stabilizers and the orbits of f with respect to D(M) and D(M f ). In fact S(f) = S(f f ).In this paper we calculate the homotopy types of S(f), O(f) and O(f f ). It is proved that except for few cases the connected components of S(f) and O(f f ) are contractible, π k O(f) = π k M for k ≥ 3, π2 O(f) = 0, and π1 O(f) is an extension of π1 D(M) ⊕ Z k (for some k ≥ 0) with a (finite) subgroup of the group of automorphisms of the Kronrod-Reeb graph of f.We also generalize the methods of F. Sergeraert to give conditions for a finite codimension orbit of a tame smooth action of a tame Lie group on a tame Fréchet manifold to be a tame Fréchet manifold itself. In particular, we obtain that O(f) and O(f, Σ f ) are tame Fréchet manifolds. Communicated by Peter Michor Vienna Mathematics Subject Classifications (2000): 37C05, 57S05, 57R45.

Let ϕ(r) = (ϕ1(r1), …, ϕn(rn)) be a vector-valued function on R + n . A necessary and sufficient condition is obtained under which any function f ∈, H (D n ), f(z) ≠ 0, z ∈, D n , is cyclic in the corresponding weighted space Lp(ϕ), where D n is the unit polydisk in C n. Let ℤ2N={0, ..., 2N-1} denote the group of integers modulo 2N, and let L be the space of all real functions of ℤ2N which are supported on {0,...N−1}. The spectral phase of a function f:ℤ2N→ℝ is given by φf(k)=arg for k ∈ ℤ2N, where denotes the discrete Fourier transforms of f. For a fixed s∈L let Ks denote the cone of all f:ℤ2N→ℝ which satisfy φf ≡ φs and let Ms be its linear span. The angle αs between Ms and L determines the convergence rate of the signal restoration from phase algorithm of Levi and Stark [3]. Here we prove the following conjectures of Urieli et al. [7] who verified them for the N≤3 case:
1.  α (Ms, L)≤π/4 for a generic s∈L.
2.  If s∈L is geometric, i.e., s(j)=qj for 0≤j≤N−1 where ±1≠q∈ℝ, then α(Ms, L)=π/4.

Let (Mr)r?0 be a logarithmically convex sequence of positive numbers which verifies M0 = 1 as well as Mr ≥ 1 for every r ∈ ? and defines a non quasi - analytic class. Let moreover F be a closed proper subset of ?n. Then for every function f on ?n belonging to the non quasi - analytic (Mr)-class of Beurling type, there is an element g of the same class which is analytic on ?,n F and such that Dαf(x) = Dαg(x) for every α ∈ ?n0 and xF.

Using elementary comparison geometry, we prove: Let (M, g) be a simply-connected complete Riemannian manifold of dimension ≥ 3. Suppose that the sectional curvature K satisfies −1 − s(r) ≤ K ≤ −1, where r denotes distance to a fixed point in M. If lim r → ∞ e2r s(r) = 0, then (M, g) has to be isometric to ℍ n . The same proof also yields that if K satisfies −s(r) ≤ K ≤ 0 where lim r → ∞ r 2 s(r) = 0, then (M, g) is isometric to ℝ n , a result due to Greene and Wu. Our second result is a local one: Let (M, g) be any Riemannian manifold. For a ∈ ℝ, if Ka on a geodesic ball B p (R) in M and K = a on ∂B p (R), then K = a on B p (R).

Let R be a ring, n a fixed nonnegative integer and FP n (F n ) the class of all left (right) R-modules of FP-injective (flat) dimensions at most n. A left R-module M (resp., right R-module F) is called n-FI-injective (resp., n-FI-flat) if Ext 1(N,M) = 0 (resp., Tor 1(F,N) = 0) for any NFP n . It is shown that a left R-module M over any ring R is n-FI-injective if and only if M is a kernel of an FP n -precover f: AB with A injective. For a left coherent ring R, it is proven that a finitely presented right R-module M is n-FI-flat if and only if M is a cokernel of an F n -preenvelope KF of a right R-module K with F projective if and only if M F n . These classes of modules are used to construct cotorsion theories and to characterize the global dimension of a ring.

The paper is devoted to the study of a linguistic dynamical system of dimension n ≥ 2 over an arbitrary commutative ring K, i.e., a family F of nonlinear polynomial maps f α : K n K n depending on “time” α ∈ {K − 0} such that f α −1 = f −αM, the relation f α1 (x) = f α2 (x) for some x ∈ Kn implies α1 = α2, and each map f α has no invariant points. The neighborhood {f α (υ)∣α ∈ K − {0}} of an element v determines the graph Γ(F) of the dynamical system on the vertex set Kn. We refer to F as a linguistic dynamical system of rank d ≥ 1 if for each string a = (α1, υ, α2), s ≤ d, where αi + αi+1 is a nonzero divisor for i = 1, υ, d − 1, the vertices υ a = f α1 × ⋯ × f αs (υ) in the graph are connected by a unique path. For each commutative ring K and each even integer n ≠= 0 mod 3, there is a family of linguistic dynamical systems Ln(K) of rank d ≥ 1/3n. Let L(n, K) be the graph of the dynamical system Ln(q). If K = Fq, the graphs L(n, Fq) form a new family of graphs of large girth. The projective limit L(K) of L(n, K), n → ∞, is well defined for each commutative ring K; in the case of an integral domain K, the graph L(K) is a forest. If K has zero divisors, then the girth of K drops to 4. We introduce some other families of graphs of large girth related to the dynamical systems Ln(q) in the case of even q. The dynamical systems and related graphs can be used for the development of symmetric or asymmetric cryptographic algorithms. These graphs allow us to establish the best known upper bounds on the minimal order of regular graphs without cycles of length 4n, with odd n ≥ 3. Bibliography: 42 titles. A criterion of normality based on a single holomorphic function
Let F be a family of functions holomorphic on a domain D ⊂ ℂ Let k ≥ 2 be an integer and let h be a holomorphic function on D, all of whose zeros have multiplicity at most k −1, such that h(z) has no common zeros with any fF. Assume also that the following two conditions hold for every fF: (a) f(z) = 0 ⇒ f′(z) = h(z); and (b) f′(z) = h(z) ⇒ |f (k)(z)| ≤ c, where c is a constant. Then F is normal on D.

Let M n be a closed orientable manifold of dimension n > 3. We study the class G 1(M n ) of orientation-preserving Morse-Smale diffeomorphisms of M n such that the set of unstable separatrices of any fG 1(M n ) is one-dimensional and does not contain heteroclinic intersections. We prove that the Peixoto graph (equipped with an automorphism) is a complete topological invariant for diffeomorphisms of class G 1(M n ), and construct a standard representative for any class of topologically conjugate diffeomorphisms.

Let k be a positive integer, let M be a positive number, let F be a family of meromorphic functions in a domain D, all of whose zeros are of multiplicity at least k, and let h be a holomorphic function in D, h ≢ 0. If, for every fF, f and f (k) share 0, and |f(z)| ≥ M whenever f (k)(z) = h(z), then F is normal in D. The condition that f and f (k) share 0 cannot be weakened, and the condition that |f(z)| ≥ M whenever f (k)(z) = h(z) cannot be replaced by the condition that |f(z)| ≥ 0 whenever f (k)(z) = h(z). This improves some results due to Fang and Zalcman [2] etc.

We consider an unknown response function f defined on Δ = [0, 1] d , 1 ≤ d ≤ ∞, taken at n random uniform design points and observed with Gaussian noise of known variance. Given a positive sequence r n → 0 as n → ∞ and a known function f 0L 2(Δ), we propose, under general conditions, a unified framework for goodness-of-fit testing the null hypothesis H 0: f = f 0 against the alternative H 1: f ∈ $ \mathcal{F} $ \mathcal{F} , ∥ff 0∥ ≥ r n , where $ \mathcal{F} $ \mathcal{F} is an ellipsoid in the Hilbert space L 2(Δ) with respect to the tensor product Fourier basis and ∥ · ∥ is the norm in L 2(Δ). We obtain both rate and sharp asymptotics for the error probabilities in the minimax setup. The derived tests are inherently non-adaptive. Several illustrative examples are presented. In particular, we consider functions belonging to ellipsoids arising from the well-known multidimensional Sobolev and tensor product Sobolev norms as well as from the less-known Sloan-Woźniakowski norm and a norm constructed from multivariable analytic functions on the complex strip.

Normality and quasinormality of zero-free meromorphic functions
Let k, K ∈ N and F be a family of zero-free meromorphic functions in a domain D such that for each f ∈ F , f(k)-1 has at most K zeros, ignoring multiplicity. Then F is quasinormal of order at most ν = K k+1 , where ν is equal to the largest integer not exceeding K/k+1 . In particular, if K = k, then F is normal. The results are sharp.

Let E and F be Banach spaces, f: UEF be a map of C r (r ⩾ 1), x 0U, and ft (x 0) denote the FréLechet differential of f at x 0. Suppose that f′(x 0) is double split, Rank(f′(x 0)) = ∞, dimN(f′(x 0)) > 0 and codimR(f′(x 0)) s> 0. The rank theorem in advanced calculus asks to answer what properties of f ensure that f(x) is conjugate to f′(x 0) near x 0. We have proved that the conclusion of the theorem is equivalent to one kind of singularities for bounded linear operators, i.e., x 0 is a locally fine point for f′(x) or generalized regular point of f(x); so, a complete rank theorem in advanced calculus is established, i.e., a sufficient and necessary condition such that the conclusion of the theorem to be held is given.

Let a function f be integrable, positive, and nondecreasing in the interval (0, 1). Then by Polya’s theorem all zeros of the corresponding cosine and sine Fourier transforms are real and simple; in this case positive zeros lie in the intervals (π(n−1/2), π(n+1/2)), (πn, π(n+1)), n ∈ ℕ, respectively. In the case of sine transforms it is required that f cannot be a stepped function with rational discontinuity points. In this paper, zeros of the function with small numbers are included into intervals being proper subsets of the corresponding Polya intervals. A localization of small zeros of the Mittag-Leffler function E 1/2(−z 2; μ), μ ∈ (1, 2) ∪ (2, 3) is obtained as a corollary.

For a transitive Lie algebroid A on a connected manifold M and its representation on a vector bundle F, we define a morphism of cohomology groups rk: Hk(A,F) → Hk(Lx,Fx), called the localization map, where Lx is the adjoint algebra at x ∈ M. The main result in this paper is that if M is simply connected, or H (LX,FX) is trivial, then T is injective. This means that the Lie algebroid 1-cohomology is totally determined by the 1-cohomology of its adjoint Lie algebra in the above two cases.
