We study the transmission characteristics of a photonic crystal waveguide with a single stub of a finite length and propose a double-stub waveguide structure for its application to optical filters. The proposed device operates as a Fabry-Perot interferometer and can be used as a broad bandstop filter and a narrow bandpass filter. These filters are inherently compact and their center frequency is given by the resonant frequency of the stub.  相似文献

We present the experimental study of a free-standing metallic guided-mode resonant structure, for bandpass filtering applications in the mid-IR wavelength range. Structure consists of a subwavelength gold grating with narrow slits deposited on a silicon nitride membrane. High optical transmission is measured with up to 78% transmission at resonance. Angularly resolved spectra are presented revealing Fano-type resonance.  相似文献

The spin-flip transport of electron in one-dimensional comb-like waveguide structures is investigated theoretically including the Rashba and Dresselhaus effects. The spin-polarized transmission of electron oscillates with changing the length of stubs and/or electronic momentum, and depends sensitively on electron spin orientation injected from the ferromagnetic source. The spin-flip transmission induced by the Rashba and Dresselhaus effects can only be up to 25% in the case of one stub, and can be enhanced significantly by adding more stubs. The spin-flip transmission induced by the Dresselhaus effect is similar to what induced by the Rashba effect for the one stub case, but is quite different for multi-stub case. The interplay between the Rashba and Dresselhaus effects shortens the period of transmission oscillation and enhances the splitting of the transmission peaks.  相似文献

Light transmission through complex-unit waveguides (WGs) with or without stubs attached to them periodically is studied theoretically. The transmittance through stubless WGs of widtha, with periodic dielectric contrast and two different subunits, exhibits longitudinal resonances due to bound states trapped in individual subunits that disappear when the optical lengths of the latter are sufficiently long. On the other hand, stubbed WGs can have bound states trapped in the stubs which may result in transmittance resonances in the gaps and antiresonances within the bands that can widen into new bands and gaps, respectively. The photonic gaps of the stubbed WGs, with or without dielectric contrast, can be several times larger than those of the corresponding one-dimensional quarter-wave structure for sufficiently shorta. This increase results from destructive interference between waves propagating along the main WG and those reflected from the stubs. Distributed-feedback-laser stubbed or stubless (with contrast) structures, of stub lengths  a, show a much higherQthan that of conventional, weakly corrugated WGs.  相似文献

Using supercell plane wave expansion method, the Lamb wave band structure of one-dimensional thin plate with periodic stubs is investigated. The numerical results show that flat bands will appear and band gap can exist in a low-frequency domain. The position of the flat bands and width of the low-frequency Lamb wave band gap can be tuned by the stub height, plate thickness and filling fraction. The band gap is obtained by opening the folding points of the same plate modes not the crossing point of different plate mode when the stub height is small.  相似文献

Extraordinary optical transmission through metallic gratings is a well established effect based on the collective resonance of corrugated screens. Being based on plasmonic resonances, its bandwidth is inherently narrow, in particular, for thick screens and narrow apertures. We introduce here a different mechanism to achieve total transmission through an otherwise opaque screen, based on an ultrabroadband tunneling that can span from dc to the visible range at a given incidence angle. This phenomenon effectively represents the equivalent of Brewster transmission for plasmonic and opaque screens.  相似文献

In this paper, we have investigated the characteristics of an asymmetric shaped Fano line in a metal–insulator–metal (MIM) plasmonic waveguide side coupled to two resonating stub structures. The spectral properties of Fano resonance are quite distinct due to the destructive interference between a two propagating plasmon modes. Two structural parameters are carefully adjusted: physical separation between both the resonating stubs and length of resonating stubs. By tailoring the separation between both the resonating structures, coupling between both the plasmon modes is controlled, and hence asymmetric nature of Fano line can be shaped accordingly. Resonance condition of Fano line can be tuned by scaling the length of stubs. A strong red shift in resonating wavelength with varying degree of asymmetry is observed, when length of resonating structures is increased. The sharp resonant peak, due to an asymmetric shaped Fano resonance is generally accompanied by large dispersion that results in reduction of group velocity of light near Fano resonance. By controlling the coupling between resonating stub, or by scaling the length of lower resonating stub, large value of group index (ng = 75) and delay bandwidth product (DBP = 0.2533) is obtained. The structure can be modified to suit different applications in optical buffers, optical switches and nonlinear optics devices.  相似文献

In this letter, we propose and analyze an ultra-compact wavelength filter on silicon-based hybrid plasmonic waveguides, which confines light in a nanometeric silica dioxide layer between the silicon substrate and metal cap. The filter consists of a stub structure coupled to a straight waveguide. The three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method is applied to calculate the spectral responses of such devices. Similar resonant behaviors are obtained since those devices are based on two-dimensional Metal-Insulator-Metal waveguide structure. Results also show that by adding stubs and tuning the distance between stubs can further improve the device's performance and shape the spectral response to some extent.  相似文献

We theoretically investigate controlled tunable all-optical filtering and buffering of optical pulses in a hybrid nano-photonic structure, where a single quantum dot (QD) embedded in a photonic crystal nanocavity is sidecoupled between a bare nanocavity and a photonic crystal waveguide. We demonstrate that there is a sharp low-loss transmission peak in the transmission spectrum under even low QD-nanocavity coupling strength and the input optical pulses can be delayed up to several hundred picoseconds within the dephasing time of the QD. The filtering regime can be shifted readily by manipulating the detuning between the QD excitonic transition frequency and resonant frequency of the nanocavity mode, which can be explored in future for on-chip all-optical logic and signal processing.  相似文献

The transmission line theory (TLT) and the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method are applied to investigate the optical transmission characteristics of the metal–dielectric–metal (MDM) plasmonic waveguide coupled with a stub structure. The transmission rate of the FDTD simulation results demonstrates periodically variation from less than 1% to more than 92% as a function of the length of the stub, which fits well with the results of TLT. Furthermore, the transmission also performs a periodically switch distribution with the change of the refractive index of the stub from 1.0 to 2.0 gradually. Both methods are adopted for modulating the superposition phase of the interference between the reflected surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) wave from the end of the stub and the passing SPPs wave in the waveguide, which can be interpreted as the principle mechanism for the optical switch effect of the MDM waveguide with a stub structure.  相似文献

采用量子波导理论研究了双stub介观环结构中电子输运特性。结果表明电子透射系数随stub的长度和环的大小而周期地振动,对环的周长和stub的长度做适当的调整,能使电子输运达到100%。并且比较了单stub介观环结构和双stub介观环结构对电子输运的影响,发现双stub的介观环结构对电子输运调制要比单stub介观环结构好。理论研究不仅对基础物理而且对量子器件研究均有重要意义。  相似文献

This work reports on a study of electron transport in two-dimensionally-defined waveguide superlattices modeled by a lateral quantum waveguide with different numbers of attached quantum stubs. It is found that for the system with a single stub, the transmission amplitude exhibits pairs of zeros and poles in the complex-energy plane and the phase of the transmission coefficient drops sharply by π when the transmission passes a zero. This co-occurrence phenomenon of the transmission zero and the phase discontinuity is identical to the feature observed in a recent double-slit-like experiment by Schusteret al.[Nature385, 417 (1997)]. When two or more quantum stubs are attached to the quantum waveguide, each transmission zero seen in the single-stub structure develops into a group of zeros and the phase of the transmission coefficient shows, in correspondence to the group of zeros, a multiple-drop structure. However, not all poles of the waveguide superlattices are found to be paired with zeros and poles that are not paired with zeros are found to be located, in the complex energy plane, at the two sides of a multiple-zero region.  相似文献

Using the nonequilibrium Green’s function method combined with the tight-binding Hamiltonian, we theoretically investigate the spin-dependent transmission probability and spin Seebeck coefficient of a crossed armchair-edge graphene nanoribbon (AGNR) superlattice p-n junction under a perpendicular magnetic field with a ferromagnetic insulator, where junction widths W1 of 40 and 41 are considered to exemplify the effect of semiconducting and metallic AGNRs, respectively. A pristine AGNR system is metallic when the transverse layer m = 3j + 2 with a positive integer j and an insulator otherwise. When stubs are present, a semiconducting AGNR junction with width W1 = 40 always shows metallic behavior regardless of the potential drop magnitude, magnetization strength, stub length, and perpendicular magnetic field strength. However, metallic or semiconducting behavior can be obtained from a metallic AGNR junction with W1 = 41 by adjusting these physical parameters. Furthermore, a metal-to-semiconductor transition can be obtained for both superlattice p-n junctions by adjusting the number of periods of the superlattice. In addition, the spin-dependent Seebeck coefficient and spin Seebeck coefficient of the two systems are of the same order of magnitude owing to the appearance of a transmission gap, and the maximum absolute value of the spin Seebeck coefficient reaches 370 µV/K when the optimized parameters are used. The calculated results offer new possibilities for designing electronic or heat-spintronic nanodevices based on the graphene superlattice p-n junction.  相似文献

Optical gates based on switchable material have become a focus of investigation. The present study designs an optical gate that uses DNA transmission lines and developed for Feynman and Toffoli reversible gates. It is shown that the implementation of a transmission line such as Ag/DNA/Ag produces a structure with high-quality switching. The switching characteristics of DNA were considered when designing the basic transmission line. The “On” mode is assumed for DNA with low conductivity. As conductivity increases, the line switches to the “Off” mode. A conceptual design is proposed in the present study for Feynman and Toffoli reversible gates for an optical regime at 300 THz based on DNA switching. A conceptual model is developed with an Ag/DNA/Ag transmission line controlled by changing the DNA bias. This transmission line provides a “Yes” gate, which is necessary for a reversible gate. The full wave time domain method was used to model the optical gates. The current work discusses how a DNA memristor can be used to design a compact reversible gate having a simple structure and high switching quality for use in optical systems.  相似文献

In this research work, we propose all‐optical transistor based on metallic nanoparticle cross‐chains geometry. The geometry of the proposed device consists of two silver nanoparticle chains arranged along the x‐ and z‐axis. The x‐chain contains a Kerr nonlinearity, the source beam is set at the left side of the later, while the control beam is located at the top side of the z‐chain. The control beam can turn ON and OFF the light transmission of an incoming light. We report a theoretical model of a very small all‐optical transistor proof‐of‐conceptmade of optical ‘light switching light'concept. We show that the transmission efficiency strongly depends on the control beam and polarization of the incoming light. We investigate the influence of a perfect reflector and reflecting substrate on the transmission of the optical signal when the control beam is turned ON and OFF. These new findings make our unique design a potential candidate for future highly‐integrated optical information processing chips.  相似文献

We propose and analyze a first-order optical differentiator based on a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) in transmission. It is shown in the examples that a simple uniform-period FBG in a very strong coupling regime (maximum reflectivity very close to 100%) can perform close to ideal temporal differentiation of the complex envelope of an arbitrary-input optical signal.  相似文献

金属薄膜上亚波长金属狭缝的非共振光增强透射对宽频带光子器件的设计具有重要意义. 为增强金属狭缝的光透射, 设计了内嵌矩形腔楔形金属狭缝阵列, 并用有限元方法研究了该结构的透射特性. 结果表明, 内嵌矩形腔的楔形金属狭缝阵列比无矩形腔的楔形金属狭缝阵列透射率高. 此外, 还研究了矩形腔的结构参数和位置对内嵌矩形腔楔形金属狭缝阵列透射特性的影响. 这些结果将对设计具有更高透射能力的金属狭缝具有一定的指导意义. 关键词: 光异常透射 金属狭缝 表面等离极化激元  相似文献

利用时域有限差分方法研究了亚波长金属波导TE波的传播特性和基于异常透射现象的干涉特性.对各种参量对驻波特性的影响及两列波导间的耦合特性进行了分析.研究发现,TE波在波导中传播时存在截止宽度,如果波导宽度小于截止宽度,TE波在波导中不能传播;如果波导宽度大于截止宽度,TE波的传播距离将随波导宽度变大而突然增加.当波导宽度达到或大于半波长时,TE波可以在波导中正常传播.金属波导的截止宽度与金属的吸收系数成正比.此外,由于光在亚波长金属波导透射时的异常透射现象,在亚波长金属波导中产生了TE波的干涉现象,能形成驻波.  相似文献

A simple and efficient transmission line model is proposed here to study how the transmission characteristics of photonic crystal waveguides are tailored by introduction of stubs patterned in the photonic crystal lattice. It is shown that band-pass and band-stop optical filters can be easily designed and optimized when stubs of appropriate length are brought in. Since the lengths of the designed stubs are not necessarily integer multiples of the photonic crystal lattice constant, a geometric shift in a portion of the photonic crystal structure is shown to be essential. The proposed model is verified by using a rigorous numerical method. An excellent agreement is observed between the numerical results and the transmission characteristics as extracted by the proposed model.  相似文献

We propose a scheme for an optical limiter and switch of the transmitted light intensity in an array of subwavelength metallic slits placed on a nonlinear Kerr-type dielectric substrate of finite thickness, where the geometrical parameters are designed for operation at telecom wavelengths. Our approach is based on the abrupt changes of the output light intensity observed in these systems near transmission minima.  相似文献
