Bursts of gravitational waves may be detected by searching for coincidental excitations between multiple, widely-spaced antennas. However, accidental coincidences due to random, local sources of excitation may mask true events due to gravitational waves. In this paper, we demonstrate experimentally that the use of an amplitude ratio filter can reduce the rate of accidental coincidences between two resonant-bar gravitational wave detectors, improving the statistical significance of zero time delay coincidences.  相似文献

We study heavy ion collisions at strong ?t Hooft coupling using AdS/CFT correspondence. Heavy ion collisions correspond to gravitational shock wave collisions in AdS5. We construct the metric in the forward light cone after the collision perturbatively through expansion of Einstein equations in graviton exchanges. We obtain an analytic expression for the metric including all-order graviton exchanges with one shock wave, while keeping the exchanges with another shock wave at the lowest order. We read off the corresponding energy-momentum tensor of the produced medium. Unfortunately this energy-momentum tensor does not correspond to ideal hydrodynamics, indicating that higher order graviton exchanges are needed to construct the full solution of the problem. We also show that shock waves must completely stop almost immediately after the collision in AdS5, which, on the field theory side, corresponds to complete nuclear stopping due to strong coupling effects, likely leading to Landau hydrodynamics. Finally, we perform trapped surface analysis of the shock wave collisions demonstrating that a bulk black hole, corresponding to ideal hydrodynamics on the boundary, has to be created in such collisions, thus constructing a proof of thermalization in heavy ion collisions at strong coupling.  相似文献

用线性稳定性理论,分析粘性物质中的正激波稳定性问题.粘性物质中任意强度的一维激波,其稳定性问题可归结为处理复数范围内的特征值问题,该特征值问题由两个一阶常微分方程及一个二阶常微分方程构成.这些常微分方程的系数依赖于流动的基本流场的物理量及其梯度.所获得的特征值问题由一个四阶精度的有限差分离散求解.分析考虑物质粘性的金属铝中的正激波稳定性,可以看出,正激波运动是稳定的,并且激波速度对波前和波后的小扰动量的衰减有相反的作用,而物质粘性有致稳的作用.  相似文献

A mechanism of action of a shock wave on an active medium, which leads to an additional energy release source, is considered. This source moves together with the shock wave front and depends on the magnitude and direction of the electric field applied to the plasma and on the current density in the plasma. The study is a continuation of an earlier publication devoted to the propagation of weak shock waves. Here, we consider shock waves of an arbitrary intensity with an arbitrary mechanism of formation of an additional energy contribution due to variation of the parameters of the medium as a result of passage of the shock wave. Special cases of this effect are the propagation of a shock wave in a plasma and detonation burning.  相似文献

Similarity solution for a spherical shock wave with or without gravitational field in a dusty gas is studied under the action of monochromatic radiation. It is supposed that dusty gas be a mixture of perfect gas and micro solid particles. Equilibrium flow condition is supposed to be maintained and energy is varying which is continuously supplied by inner expanding surface. It is found that similarity solution exists under the constant initial density. The comparison between the solutions obtained in gravitating and non-gravitating medium is done. It is found that the shock strength increases with an increase in gravitational parameter or ratio of the density of solid particles to the initial density of the gas, whereas an increase in the radiation parameter has decaying effect on the shock waves.  相似文献

Classical propagation of (super)strings through gravitational shock waves is analyzed. The exact classical solutions are used for quantization and for the identification of the exact quantumS-matrix describing string scattering by the wave. ThisS-matrix coincides with theS-matrix of the string-string scattering in theflat space-time for particular profile of the shock wave! This is interpreted as the generation of curved geometry from the flat space-time string theory. The quantum consistence of (super)string motion in gravitational plane wave backgrounds is then studied. It turns out that for the standard dimensionsD=26 (D=10) the vanishing of the Ricci tensor for the plane wave is sufficient condition for vanishing of the Weyl (superWeyl) anomaly. Thus, plane wave solutions of the Einstein equations are automatically the classical (super)string vacua. For particular plane waves the anomaly can be evaluated even nonperturbatively.This is the second part of the review based on the PhD thesis of the author defended in 1989 at SISSA, Trieste.  相似文献

Based on the bifurcation and the idea that the solitary waves and shock waves of partial differential equations correspond respectively to the homoclinic and heteroclinic trajectories of nonlinear ordinary differential equations satisfied by the travelling waves,different conditions for the existence of solitary waves of a perturbed sine-Gordon equation are obtained.All of the corresponding approximate solitary wave solutions are given by integrating the derived approximate equations directly.  相似文献

A new three-parameter class of solutions to the Einstein vacuum equations is presented which represents the collision of a pair of gravitational plane waves. Depending on the choice of the parameters, one of the colliding waves has a smooth or unbounded wavefront, or it is a shock, or impulsive, or shock accompanied by an impulsive wave, while the second is any of the above types. In a dusty plasma, the non-adiabaticity of the charge variation on a dust grain surface results in an anomalous dissipation. Analytical investigation shows that this results in a small but finite amplitude dust acoustic (DA) wave propagation which is described by the Korteweg-de Vries-Burger equation. Results of the numerical investigation of the propagation of large-amplitude dust acoustic stationary shock wave are presented here using the complete set of non-linear dust fluid equations coupled with the dust charging equation and Poisson equation. The DA waves are of compressional type showing considerable increase of dust density, which is of significant importance in astrophysical context as it leads to enhanced gravitational attraction considered as a viable process for star formation. The DA shock transition to its far downstream amplitude is oscillatory in nature due to dust charge fluctuations, the oscillation amplitude and shock width depending on the ratioω pd/Vch and other plasma parameters Article presented at the International Conference on the Frontiers of Plasma Physics and Technology, 9–14 December 2002, Bangalore, India.  相似文献

A model of the convergence of cylindrical shock waves (SWs) in a gas with a uniform density has been considered. The partial differential equations of this model have been reduced to ordinary differential equations, from which the law of convergence of such shock waves and the dependence α = f(γ, γeff) of their self-similarity index α on the heat-capacity ratio in front of the shock wave (γ) and behind the shock wave front (γeff) of the gas have been found. This dependence for cylindrical shock waves has been shown to agree with the experimental data within the measurement error.  相似文献

The 2-D generalized variable-coefficient Kadomtsev-Petviashvili-Burgers equation representing many types of acoustic waves in cosmic and/or laboratory dusty plasmas is reduced by the modified classical direct similarity reduction method to nonlinear ordinary differential equation of fourth-order. Using the extended Riccati equation mapping method for solving the reduced equation, many new shock wave, solitary wave and periodic wave solutions are obtained with some constraints between the variable coefficients. Finally, some physical interpretations for the obtained solutions as, bright and dark solitons, periodic solitary wave, and shock wave in dust plasma and quantum plasma are achieved.  相似文献

Background oriented schlieren method is applied in diagnostics of shock waves in air. The method can be used for visualization of shock waves that are generated after explosion or due to motion at ultrasonic speeds. Experimental data make it possible to observe propagation of a shock wave in space, estimate the asymmetry of energy liberation in explosion, and determine parameters of shock wave.  相似文献

A comprehensive numerical study was carried out to investigate the unsteady cell-like structures of oblique detonation waves (ODWs) for a fixed Mach 7 inlet flow over a wedge of 30° turning angle. The effects of grid resolution and activation energy were examined systematically at a dimensionless heat addition of 10. The ODW front remains stable for a low activation energy regardless of grid resolution, but becomes unstable for a high activation energy featuring a cell-like wave front structure. Similar to the situation with an ordinary normal detonation wave (NDW), a continuous increase in the activation energy eventually causes the wave-front oscillation to transit from a regular to an irregular pattern. The wave structure of an unstable ODW, however, differs considerably from that of a NDW. Under the present flow condition, triple points and transverse waves propagate downstream, and the numerical smoke-foil record exhibits traces of triple points that rarely intersect with each other. Several instability-driving mechanisms were conjectured from the highly refined results. Since the reaction front behind a shock wave can be easily destabilized by disturbance inherent in the flowfield, the ODW front becomes unstable and displays cell-like structures due to the local pressure oscillations and/or the reflected shock waves originating from the triple points. The combined effects of various instability sources give rise to a highly unstable and complex flow structure behind an unstable ODW front.  相似文献

Vacuum spacetimes endowed with two commuting spacelike Killing vector fields are considered. Subject to the hypothesis that there exists a shearfree null geodesic congruence orthogonal to the two-surface generated by the two commuting spacelike Killing vector fields,it is shown that, with a specific choice of null tetrad, the Newman-Penrose equations are reduced to an ordinary differential equation of Riccati type. fiom the consideration of this differential equation, exact solutions of the vacuum Einstein field equations with distribution valued Weyl curvature describing the propagation of gravitational impulsive and shock wave of variable polarization are then constructed.  相似文献

We consider gravitational wave production due to parametric resonance at the end of inflation, or "preheating." This leads to large inhomogeneities that source a stochastic background of gravitational waves at scales inside the comoving Hubble horizon at the end of inflation. We confirm that the present amplitude of these gravitational waves need not depend on the inflationary energy scale. We analyze an explicit model where the inflationary energy scale is approximately 10{9} GeV, yielding a signal close to the sensitivity of Advanced Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory and Big Bang Observer. This signal highlights the possibility of a new observational "window" into inflationary physics and provides significant motivation for searches for stochastic backgrounds of gravitational waves in the Hz to GHz range, with an amplitude on the order of Omega_{gw}(k)h{2} approximately 10{-11}.  相似文献

引力波的直接观测已开启引力波天文学的新篇章,爱因斯坦的百年预言终获证实。空间引力波探测器使得探测0.1 m Hz~1 Hz频段丰富的引力波源成为可能,与地面引力波探测器互为补充,才可实现更加宽广波段的引力波探测,揭开宇宙早期的更多秘密。空间激光干涉引力波探测采用外差干涉测量技术,测量间距百万公里的两自由悬浮测试质量间10 pm量级的变化量。望远镜是激光干涉测量系统的重要组成部分,1 pm的光程稳定性及苛刻的杂散光要求,不同于传统的几何成像望远镜。本文根据空间太极计划任务需求,对望远镜的功能及技术要求进行了分析,并完成了原理样机的初步方案设计,针对百万公里远场波前分布,分析了望远镜系统的敏感性,同时完成了在轨光机热集成仿真,为后面原理样机的研制奠定了技术基础。  相似文献

We present a novel nonlinear mechanism for exciting a gravitational radiation pulse (or a gravitational wave) by dust magnetohydrodynamic (DMHD) waves in dusty astrophysical plasmas. We derive the relevant equations governing the dynamics of nonlinearly coupled DMHD waves and a gravitational wave (GW). The system of equations is used to investigate the generation of a GW by compressional Alfvén waves in a type II supernova. The growth rate of our nonlinear process is estimated, and the results are discussed in the context of the gravitational radiation accompanying supernova explosions.  相似文献

本文从计算棒状引力波天线的指向性函数出发,讨论了引力波源的方位和天线棒方位之间的关系,找到了从符合实验数据求出引力波源方位以及利用单一引力波探测器对连续引力波源的定位方法。所得的结果也适用于其他形式的一维引力波天线。一旦引力波探测器的灵敏度达到足以确定引力波强度时,本文的结果无疑对引力波天文学将是很有意义的。 关键词:  相似文献
