A Monte Carlo model of the ultrasonic modulation of multiply scattered coherent light in scattering media is provided. The model is based on two mechanisms: the ultrasonic modulation of the index of refraction, which causes a modulation of the optical path lengths between consecutive scattering events, and the ultrasonic modulation of the displacements of scatterers, which causes a modulation of optical path lengths with each scattering event. Multiply scattered light accumulates modulated optical path lengths along its path. Consequently, the intensity of the speckles that are formed by the multiply scattered light is modulated. The contribution from the index of refraction is comparable with the contribution from displacement when the acoustic-wave vector is less than a critical fraction of the transport mean free path and becomes increasingly greater than the contribution from displacement beyond this critical point. This Monte Carlo model agrees well with an independent analytical model for isotropically scattering media. Both mechanisms are coherent phenomena, requiring the use of a coherent light source.  相似文献

An analytic equation interpreting the intensity of ultrasound-modulated scattering light is derived,based on diffusion theory and previous explanations of the intensity modulation mechanism.Furthermore,an experiment of ultrasonic modulation of incoherent light in a scattering medium is developed.This analytical model agrees well with experimental results,which confirms the validity of the proposed intensity modulation mechanism.The model supplements the existing research on the ultrasonic modulation mechanism of scattering light.  相似文献

Frequency correlations in multiply scattered light that are present in quantum fluctuations are investigated. The speckle correlations for quantum and classical noise are compared and are found to depend markedly differently on optical frequency, which was confirmed in a recent experiment. Furthermore, novel mesoscopic correlations are predicted that depend on the photon statistics of the incoming light.  相似文献

We develop a temporal correlation transfer equation (CTE) and a temporal correlation diffusion equation (CDE) for ultrasound-modulated multiply scattered light. These equations can be applied to an optically scattering medium with embedded optically scattering and absorbing objects to calculate the power spectrum of light modulated by a nonuniform ultrasound field. We present an analytical solution based on the CDE and Monte Carlo simulation results for light modulated by a cylinder of ultrasound in an optically scattering slab. We further validate with experimental measurements the numerical calculations for an actual ultrasound field. The CTE and CDE are valid for moderate ultrasound pressures and on a length scale comparable with the optical transport mean-free path. These equations should be applicable to a wide spectrum of conditions for ultrasound-modulated optical tomography of soft biological tissues.  相似文献

We describe an improved method for coherence domain path length resolved measurements of multiply scattered photons in turbid media. An electro-optic phase modulator sinusoidally modulates the phase in the reference arm of a low coherence fiber optic Mach-Zehnder interferometer, at a high phase modulation angle. For dynamic turbid media this results in Doppler broadened phase modulation interference peaks at the modulation frequency and its multiples. The signal to noise ratio is increased by almost one order or magnitude for large modulation angles and the shape of the spectral peaks resulting from the interference of Doppler shifted sample waves and reference light is not changed. The path length dependent Doppler broadening is compared with the theoretical predictions in the single scattered and diffusive regimes. The experimentally measured optical path lengths are validated with the Monte Carlo technique.  相似文献

AO3D: A Monte Carlo code for modeling of environmental light propagation   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A Monte Carlo radiative transfer program (Atmosphere-Ocean 3-Dimensional, AO3D) for modeling the coupled atmosphere-ocean environment has been developed. The code allows for the specification of optical properties for the atmosphere, land and ocean. Light rays are tracked as they pass between the atmosphere and the ocean, reflect off the ocean surface, the ocean floor, and off land, or are absorbed. In this version the polarization of light rays is not considered. The optical properties of each horizontally homogeneous layer within the atmosphere and ocean can be set on a layer-by-layer basis with a choice of phase functions, absorption and scattering coefficients, and index of refraction. A wind-dependent Cox and Munk ocean surface realization (with whitecaps) is implemented to model refraction and reflection from surface waves. Either spherical- or flat-Earth models can be used, and all refraction and reflection are accounted for. The AO3D model has been tested by parts, and as a whole by comparison with single- and total-scattering calculations from other radiative transfer codes. Comparisons with Monte Carlo calculations by Adams and Kattawar (agreement in TOA radiance within the published precision ∼2%), MODTRAN4 (agreement in spherical-shell atmosphere (SSA) sky radiance within about 2%) and Coupled DIScrete Ordinate Radiative Transfer (COART) (agreement in plane-parallel (PP) sky radiance within 2%) are shown. Sun photometer measurements (including large air mass values) at the Mauna Loa Observatory are compared to AO3D simulations (for a spherical Earth) and suggest that a thin aerosol layer was present above the observatory at the time of the measurements.  相似文献

Two approaches are taken for the implementation of the simulation: the first uses individual realizations of particle orientation and the second, an accelerated method, averages over the particle orientation. These different methods produce results that are indistinguishable within statistical errors. The depolarization of light is examined in both transmission and backscatter for media comprised of spheroids of different polarizability ratios. In media containing spheroidal particles the depolarization is greater than that for spherical particles. Media containing prolate spheroids are more depolarizing than media comprising oblate particles of the same polarizability ratio. The extra depolarization due to asphericity is much less pronounced in the multiple scattering regime than for single scattering.  相似文献

A new technique is presented for measuring the spectral broadening of light that has been multiply scattered from scatterers in motion. In our method the scattered light is detected by a heterodyne receiver that uses a CCD as a multipixel detector. We obtain the frequency spectrum of the scattered light by sweeping the heterodyne local oscillator frequency. Our detection scheme combines a high optical etendue (product of the surface by the detection solid angle) with an optimal detection of the scattered photons (shot noise). Using this technique, we measure, in vivo, the frequency spectrum of the light scattered through the breast of a female volunteer.  相似文献

We propose an inversion scheme to reconstruct the scattering coefficient mu and the anisotropy factor g that characterize the optical properties of a turbid medium. It is based on a theory for the scattering of light inside the medium from an angularly collimated light source. We demonstrate the feasibility of this method using light scattering data obtained from a Monte Carlo simulation.  相似文献

Quantum Monte Carlo calculations using realistic two- and three-nucleon interactions are presented for nuclei with up to ten nucleons. Our Green's function Monte Carlo calculations are accurate to ∼1-2% for the binding energy. We have constructed Hamiltonians using the Argonne v18 NN interaction and reasonable three-nucleon interactions that reproduce the energies of these nuclear states with only ∼500 keV rms error. Other predictions, such as form factors, decay rates, and spectroscopic factors also agree well with data. A fast and effective method for reconstruction of optical absorption property of scattering object is developed. A revised Monte Carlo forward model is set up with new detection criteria for simulation of low coherence interferometer (LCI) system. Calculation of coherent signal could be accelerated by a scaling method based on baseline data simulated by Monte Carlo method. The inverse procedure of scaling method is utilized to extract absorption coefficient by dichotomy algorithm. Fat emulsion and stain mixture of Intralipid? and India ink are taken as scattering and absorbing sample. The results of reconstruction have shown the linear relationship between absorption and concentration of India ink. The maximum absolute relative deviation is 6.21%.  相似文献

The distribution function of the scattered radiation intensity is calculated in the approximation of the basic polarization modes. In such an approximation, the distribution function is represented in terms of the degree of polarization of the initially circularly and linearly polarized waves transmitted by the sample. The effect of the difference of the decay rates for the circular and linear polarization modes on the statistics of the light waves that are multiply scattered in the medium with large inhomogeneities is analyzed.  相似文献

An approximate analytical method for solving the vector radiative transfer equation is proposed. The method is based on the assumption that single scattering of light by large-scale inhomogeneities occurs predominantly through small angles. We report first results of measurements by low-coherence Doppler interferometry of the path-length distribution of photons undergoing multiple scattering in a highly turbid medium. We use a Mach-Zehnder interferometer with multimode graded-index fibers and a superluminescent diode as the light source. The path-length distribution is obtained by recording of the heterodyne fluctuations that arise from the Brownian motion of particles in an Intralipid suspension as a function of the optical path length. The experimental path-length distribution is in good agreement with predictions of Monte Carlo simulations. In the heterodyne spectrum, an increase of the mean Doppler frequency with path length is observed.  相似文献

The modeling of ultra-small MOSFETs is presented using a newly developed full-band, hybrid ensemble Monte Carlo (EMC)-cellular automata (CA) device simulator. In this hybrid approach charge transport is simulated using the CA in regions of momentum space where most scattering events occur and the EMC elsewhere, thus optimizing the trade-off between the fast, but memory-consuming CA method and the slower EMC method. In order to efficiently model 3D ultra-small FETs, the hybrid algorithm is coupled self-consistently with a 2D and 3D multi-grid Poisson solver.  相似文献

根据电荷通过低温量子导体时具有的二项分布导致散粒噪声这一结论,结合Landauer电流公式的物理内涵建立了相干介观系统中的散粒噪声模型,并通过Monte Carlo模拟方法产生了散粒噪声时间序列.介观系统中散粒噪声的抑制来源于电子输运时的相关性,传输本征值双峰分布导致量子混沌腔和无序金属中的散粒噪声抑制.根据这两个结论,通过Monte Carlo模拟定性地分析了传输本征值分布与电子输运相关性之间的关系. 关键词: 散粒噪声 Landauer公式 介观系统  相似文献
