The free vibrations of shallow doubly curved orthotropic shells with rectangular planform and varying thickness is solved using a refined formulation and the spline-approximation method. Various boundary conditions are considered. The effect of the curvature of the mid-surface on the spectrum of natural frequencies is examined. An approach to the solution of problems of the statics of shallow orthotropic shells is proposed. It is based on reducing a two-dimensional boundary value problem to a one-dimensional one using the spline-collocation method and solution of the problem by the stable numerical method of discrete orthogonalization. Solutions are presented for problems on the stress state of orthotropic shells of double curvature for several values of the elastic constants of the material. The thermoelastic bending of locally heated orthotropic shells is studied using the classical theory of thermoelasticity of thin shallow orthotropic shells and the method of fundamental solutions. Linear distribution of temperature over thickness and the Newton’s law of cooling are assumed. Numerical analysis is carried out for orthotropic shells of arbitrary Gaussian curvature made of a strongly anisotropic material. The behavior of thermal forces and moments near the zone of local heating is studied for two areas of thermal effect: along a coordinate axis and along a circle of unit radius. Generalized conclusions are drawn __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 43, No. 3, pp. 80–85, March 2007.  相似文献

The free vibrations of shallow orthotropic shells with variable thickness and rectangular planform are studied. The shear strains are taken into account. The spline approximation of unknown functions is used. The natural frequencies are calculated for different boundary conditions. The dependence of the natural frequencies on the curvature of the midsurface is examined. The natural frequencies of shells with constant and variable thickness are compared  相似文献

We study the natural vibrations and the dynamic stability of nearly cylindrical orthotropic shells of revolution subjected to meridional forces uniformly distributed over the shell ends. We consider shells of medium length for which the shape of the midsurface generatrix is described by a parabolic function. Using the theory of shallow shells, we obtain the resolving equation for the vibrations of the corresponding prestressed shell. In the isotropic case, this equation differs from the well-known equation [1] by an additional term, which can be of the same order as the other terms taken into account. We consider shells of both positive and negative Gaussian curvature. We assumed that the shell ends are freely supported. The formulas and universal curves describing the dependence of the minimum frequency, the wave generation shape, and the dynamic instability domain boundaries on the orthotropy parameters, the preliminary stress, the Gaussian curvature, and the amplitude of the shell deviation from the cylinder are given in dimensionless form. We find that in the case of prestresses the orthotropy parameters and the shell deviation from the cylinder (of the order of thickness) can significantly change the least frequencies, the wave generation shape, and the dynamic instability domain boundaries of the corresponding prestressed orthotropic cylindrical shell. In this case, we note that for convex shells under preliminary compression the influence of the elastic parameter in the axial direction is stronger than the influence of the elastic parameter in the circular direction, while the situation is opposite in the case of concave shells. In the case of preliminary extension, the leading role of any orthotropy parameter can vary depending on the value of the preliminary stress and the Gaussian curvature.  相似文献

The paper proposes a method to study the natural vibrations of orthotropic shells with varying thickness. The method employs the R-function and Ritz methods. The use of R-functions allows examining shells with complex planform and different boundary conditions. The method is validated by comparing the results it produces with those obtained by other methods. The effect of geometrical (the shape of the shell, radius of curvature, shape of the hole, thickness) and mechanical (boundary conditions, angle of anisotropy axes) parameters on the spectrum of natural vibrations is analyzed  相似文献

The elastostatic problem for a relatively thin-walled spherical cap containing a through crack is considered. The problem is formulated for a specially orthotropic material within the confines of a linearized, shallow shell theory. The theory used is equivalent to Reissner's theory of flat plates and hence permits the consideration of all five physical conditions on the shell boundaries separately. The solution of the problem is reduced to that of a pair of singular integral equations and the asymptotic stress state around the crack tips is investigated. The numerical solution of the problem is given for an isotropic shell and for two specially orthotropic shells. The results indicate that the material orthotropy as well as the shell curvature and thickness may have a considerable effect on the stress intensity factors at the crack tips.  相似文献

The extensive use of circular cylindrical shells in modern industrial applications has made their analysis an important research area in applied mechanics. In spite of a large number of papers on cylindrical shells, just a small number of these works is related to the analysis of orthotropic shells. However several modern and natural materials display orthotropic properties and also densely stiffened cylindrical shells can be treated as equivalent uniform orthotropic shells. In this work, the influence of both material properties and geometry on the non-linear vibrations and dynamic instability of an empty simply supported orthotropic circular cylindrical shell subjected to lateral time-dependent load is studied. Donnell׳s non-linear shallow shell theory is used to model the shell and a modal solution with six degrees of freedom is used to describe the lateral displacements of the shell. The Galerkin method is applied to derive the set of coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations of motion which are, in turn, solved by the Runge–Kutta method. The obtained results show that the material properties and geometric relations have a significant influence on the instability loads and resonance curves of the orthotropic shell.  相似文献

A method is proposed for the numerical analysis of the thermoelastoplastic stress-strain state of laminated shells of revolution, made of isotropic and orthotropic materials, under axisymmetric loading. The method is based on the Kirchhoff-Love hypotheses for a layer stack, the theory of deformation along paths of small curvature for isotropic materials, and Hills theory of flow with isotropic hardening for orthotropic materials. The problem is solved by the method of successive approximations. A numerical example is given.__________Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 40, No. 12, pp. 84–91, December 2004.  相似文献

A technique for stability analysis of cylindrical shells with a corrugated midsurface is proposed. The wave crests are directed along the generatrix. The relations of shell theory include terms of higher order of smallness than those in the Mushtari–Donnell–Vlasov theory. The problem is solved using a variational equation. The Lamé parameter and curvature radius are variable and approximated by a discrete Fourier transform. The critical load and buckling mode are determined in solving an infinite system of equations for the coefficients of expansion of the resolving functions into trigonometric series. The solution accuracy increases owing to the presence of an aggregate of independent subsystems. Singularities in the buckling modes of corrugated shells corresponding to the minimum critical loads are determined. The basic, practically important conclusion is that both isotropic and orthotropic shells with sinusoidal corrugation are efficient only when their length, which depends on the waveformation parameters and the geometric and mechanical characteristics, is small  相似文献

We study natural vibrations of a cantilever nonclosed orthotropic cylindrical shell with an arbitrary plane directrix. We assume that the shell is hinged on two generators and its bending rigidity is zero (a membrane shell). We find the dispersion and characteristic equations for the characteristics of natural frequencies and damping ratios of the corresponding modal vibrations. Specific computations are performed for shells with directrix being a parabola and with various values of the curvature and length of the generator.  相似文献

This paper is the result of an investigation on the vibration of non-homogeneous orthotropic cylindrical shells, based on the shear deformation theory. Assume that the Young’s moduli, shear moduli and density of the orthotropic material are continuous functions of the coordinate in the thickness direction. The basic equations of non-homogeneous orthotropic cylindrical shells with the shear deformation and rotary inertia are derived in the framework of Donnell-type shell theory. The ends of a non-homogeneous orthotropic cylindrical shell are considered as simply supported. The basic equations are reduced to the sixth-order algebraic equation for the frequency using the Galerkin method. Solving this algebraic equation, the lowest values of non-dimensional frequency parameters for non-homogeneous orthotropic cylindrical shells with and without shear deformation and rotary inertia are obtained. Calculations, effects of shear stresses and rotary inertia, orthotropy, non-homogeneity and shell geometry parameters on the lowest values of non-dimensional frequency parameter are described. The results are verified by comparing the obtained values with those in the existing literature.  相似文献

The paper proposes a method to solve geometrically nonlinear bending problems for thin orthotropic shallow shells and plates interacting with a Winkler–Pasternak foundation under transverse loading. This method is based on Ritz’s variational method and the R-function method. The developed algorithm and software are used to solve a number of test problems and to study complex-shaped shells. The effect of the shape of shells, the boundary conditions, the stiffness of the foundation, and the load distribution on the behavior of isotropic and orthotropic shells undergoing geometrically nonlinear bending is studied  相似文献

In this paper, an analytical procedure is given to study the free vibration of the laminated homogeneous and non-homogeneous orthotropic conical shells with freely supported edges. The basic relations, the modified Donnell type motion and compatibility equations have been derived for laminated orthotropic truncated conical shells with variable Young’s moduli and densities in the thickness direction of the layers. By applying the Galerkin method, to the basic equations, the expressions for the dimensionless frequency parameter of the laminated homogeneous and non-homogeneous orthotropic truncated conical shells are obtained. The appropriate formulas for the single-layer and laminated complete conical and cylindrical shells made of homogeneous and non-homogeneous, orthotropic and isotropic materials are found as a special case. Finally, the influences of the non-homogeneity, the number and ordering of layers and the variations of the conical shell characteristics on the dimensionless frequency parameter are investigated. The results obtained for homogeneous cases are compared with their counterparts in the literature.  相似文献

A 3-D multilayer hybrid element is developed for the analysis of thick laminated plates and shells. The stresses are assumed independently in each sublayer element and the stress continuity between adjacent sublayers is applied to form the stress pattern of the multilayer element. Both interlaminar stress concentration and global structure response can be adequately predicted by the element model. The buckling analysis of orthotropic cylindrical shells under the external pressure is performed and the results show that the plane strain assumption is not applicable to the buckling of long orthotropic cylindrical shells.  相似文献
