A generalization of curve genus for ample vector bundles. I

A new genus g = g (X, ?) is defined for the pairs (X, ?S)that consist of n-dimensional compact complex manifolds X and ample vector bundles ? of rank r less than n on X. In case r = n-1g is equal to curve genus. Above pairs (X,?) with g less than two are classified. For spanned ? it is shown that g is greater than or equal to the irregularity of X, and its equality condition is given.

Support cones and convexity of sets in

We discuss several metric characterizations of convexity of sets in non-smooth finite-dimensional Banach spaces. We describe a setting in which convexity is equivalent to the rotation-invariance of various properties, including almost convexity, radial continuity of the metric projection, and Chebyshevity. One of the tools used is a generalization of norm-smoothness which involves support cones of the unit ball.

     

Congruence-simplicity of Steinberg algebras of non-Hausdorff ample groupoids over semifields

We investigate the algebra of an ample groupoid, introduced by Steinberg, over a semifield S. In particular, we obtain a complete characterization of congruence-simpleness for Steinberg algebras of second-countable ample groupoids, extending the well-known characterizations when S is a field. We apply our congruence-simplicity results to tight groupoids of inverse semigroup representations associated to self-similar graphs.     

On van Mill's example of a normed

In 1987 van Mill constructed an infinite-dimensional normed space which is not homeomorphic with the product . We give a short proof of this property of van Mill's example.

In this paper, we transform the problem of determining isometric immersions from into into that of solving a degenerate Monge-Ampère equation on the unit disc. By presenting one family of special solutions to the equation, we obtain a great many noncongruent examples of such isometric immersions with or without umbilic set.

On the Hartogs-Bochner phenomenon for CR functions in
