On the solvability of a boundary value problem for a fourth-order ordinary differential equation

We study the existence and multiplicity of nontrivial periodic solutions for a semilinear fourth-order ordinary differential equation arising in the study of spatial patterns for bistable systems. Variational tools such as the Brezis–Nirenberg theorem and Clark theorem are used in the proofs of the main results.     

On the spectrum of a multipoint boundary value problem for a fourth-order equation

We study the spectral properties of a multipoint boundary value problem for a fourth-order equation that describes small deformations of a chain of rigidly connected rods with elastic supports. We study the dependence of the spectrum of the boundary value problem on the rigidity coefficients of the supports. We show that the spectrum of the boundary value problem splits into two parts, one of which is movable under changes of the rigidity coefficients and the other remains fixed. As the rigidity coefficients grow, the eigenvalues corresponding to the movable part of the spectrum grow as well; moreover, the double degeneration of some eigenvalues is possible.

By using Krasnoselskii‘s fixed-point theorem on a suitable cone, several existence results and corresponding properties of positive solutions of nonlocal boundary value problem for nonlinear retarded differential equation are obtained.     

A fourth-order boundary value problem for a Sturm-Liouville type equation

An existence result of multiple solutions for a fourth-order Sturm-Liouville boundary value problem with variable parameters is established. As a consequence, three solutions for a boundary value problem with a fourth-order equation in a complete form are obtained. Our approach is based on variational methods.

Bilateral difference method for solving the boundary value problem for an ordinary differential equation

A method is proposed for calculating the bilateral approximations of the solution of the boundary value problem on [0, 1] for the equation y+p(x)y-q(x)y=f(x) and the derivative of the solution having the maximum deviation O(h² (h)+h³) on {kh} _k ^N =0, where(t) is the sum of the continuity moduli of the functions p, q,f, on the set of points {kh} _k ^N =0, h=1/N by means of O(N) operations. On the numerical solution of a nonlocal boundary value problem for a degenerating pseudoparabolic equation

We study a nonlocal boundary value problem for a degenerating pseudoparabolic third-order equation of the general form. For the solution of the problem, we obtain a priori estimates in differential and difference form, which imply the stability of the solution with respect to the initial data and right-hand side on a layer as well as the convergence of the solution of the difference problem to the solution of the differential problem.
