The relative binding energies of a series of pyridyl ligand/metal complexes of the type [M(I)L(2)](+) and [M(II)L(3)](2+) are investigated by using energy-variable collisionally activated dissociation in a quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometer. The pyridyl ligands include 1,10-phenanthroline and various alkylated analogues, 2,2'-bipyridine, 4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine, and 2,2':6',2' '-terpyridine, and the metal ions include cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc, cadmium, calcium, magnesium, lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium, and cesium. The effect of the ionic size and electronic nature of the metal ion and the polarizability and degree of preorganization of the pyridyl ligands on the threshold activation voltages, and thus the relative binding energies of the complexes, are evaluated. Correlations are found between the binding constants of [M(II)L(3)](2+) complexes in aqueous solution and the threshold activation voltages of the analogous gas-phase complexes determined by collisionally activated dissociation.  相似文献

Ab initio MO calculations were performed for complexes between HCl and NH3, CH3NH2, (CH3)2NH and (CH3) 3N. SCF geometry optimization for the latter three complexes gives double-minimum potential surfaces, which become single- minimum surfaces when electron correlation is considered. It is proposed that (CH3)3NHCl may be an ion pair in the gas phase.  相似文献

The binding energies of the p-, m-, and o-difluorobenzene-H(2)O complexes have been measured by velocity map ion imaging to be 922+/-10, 945+/-10, and 891+/-4 cm(-1), respectively. The lack of variation provides circumstantial evidence for water binding to the three isomers via the same interaction, viz. an in-plane O-H...F hydrogen bond to one of the fluorine atoms on the ring, with a second, weaker interaction of the water O atom with an ortho hydrogen, as determined previously for the p-difluorobenzene-H(2)O complex [Kang et al., J. Phys. Chem. A 109, 767 (2005)]. The ground state binding energies for the difluorobenzene-H(2)O complexes are approximately 5%-11% larger than that for benzene-H(2)O, where binding occurs to the pi electrons out-of-plane. However, in the S(1) state the binding energies of the o- and p-difluorobenzene-H(2)O complexes are smaller than the benzene-H(2)O value, raising an interesting question about whether the geometry at the global energy minimum remains in-plane in the excited electronic states of these two complexes. Recoil energy distributions for dissociation of p-difluorobenzene-H(2)O have been measured from the 3(1), 5(2), and 3(1)5(1) levels of the excited electronic state. These levels are 490, 880, and 1304 cm(-1), respectively, above the dissociation threshold. Within the experimental uncertainty, the recoil energy distributions are the same for dissociation from these three states, with average recoil energies of approximately 100 cm(-1). These recoil energies are 60% larger than was observed for the dissociation of p-difluorobenzene-Ar, which is a substantially smaller increase than the 400% seen in a comparable study of dissociation within the triplet state for pyrazine-Ar, -H(2)O complexes. The majority of the available energy is partitioned into vibration and rotation of the fragments.  相似文献

The silver ion binding energies to alcohols (methanol, ethanol, n-propanol, i-propanol, and n-butanol) and to amides (acetamide, N-methylacetamide, N, N-dimethylacetamide, formamide, N-methylformamide, and N, N-dimethylformamide) have been calculated using density functional theory (DFT) and measured using the threshold collision-induced dissociation (TCID) method. For DFT, the combined basis sets of ECP28MWB for silver and 6-311++G(2df,2pd) for the other atoms were found to be optimal using a series of test calculations on Ag (+) binding to methanol and to formamide. In addition, the Ag (+) binding energies of all ligands were evaluated with nine functionals after full geometric optimizations. TCID binding energies were measured using a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer. Reasonable to good agreements were obtained between the calculated and experimental silver(I) binding energies. Ligation of Ag (+) to the alcohols was primarily via the oxygen, although n-propanol and n-butanol exhibited additional, bidentate coordination via the CH hydrogens. By contrast, silver(I) binding to the amides was all monodentate via the carbonyl oxygen. There appears to be strong correlations between the binding energies and the polarizabilities of the ligands.  相似文献

The Stark effect has been observed in the rotational spectra of several gas-phase amine-hydrogen halide complexes and the following electric dipole moments have been determined: H(3)(15)N-H(35)Cl (4.05865 +/- 0.00095 D), (CH(3))(3)(15)N-H(35)Cl (7.128 +/- 0.012 D), H(3)(15)N-H(79)Br (4.2577 +/- 0.0022 D), and (CH(3))(3)(15)N-H(79)Br (8.397 +/- 0.014 D). Calculations of the binding energies and electric dipole moments for the full set of complexes R(n)()(CH(3))(3)(-)(n)()N-HX (n = 0-3; X = F, Cl, Br) at the MP2/aug-cc-pVDZ level are also reported. The block localized wave function (BLW) energy decomposition method has been used to partition the binding energies into contributions from electrostatic, exchange, distortion, polarization, and charge-transfer terms. Similarly, the calculated dipole moments have been decomposed into distortion, polarization, and charge-transfer components. The complexes studied range from hydrogen-bonded systems to proton-transferred ion pairs, and the total interaction energies vary from 7 to 17 kcal/mol across the series. The individual energy components show a much wider variation than this, but cancellation of terms accounts for the relatively narrow range of net binding energies. For both the hydrogen-bonded complexes and the proton-transferred ion pairs, the electrostatic and exchange terms have magnitudes that increase with the degree of proton transfer but are of opposite sign, leaving most of the net stabilization to arise from polarization and charge transfer. In all of the systems studied, the polarization terms contribute the most to the induced dipole moment, followed by smaller but still significant contributions from charge transfer. A significant contribution to the induced moment of the ion pairs also arises from distortion of the HX monomer.  相似文献

Cation interactions with π-systems are a problem of outstanding contemporary interest and the nature of these interactions seems to be quite different for transition and main group metal ions. In this paper, we have systematically analyzed the contrast in the bonding of Cu(+) and main group metal ions. The molecular structures and energetics of the complexes formed by various alkenes (A = C(n)H(2n), n = 2-6; C(n)H(2n- 2), n = 3-8 and C(n)H(2n + 2), n = 5-10) and metal ions (M = Li(+), Na(+), K(+), Ca(2+), Mg(2+), Cu(+) and Zn(2+)) are investigated by employing ab initio post Hartree-Fock (MP2/6-311++G**) calculations and are reported in the current study. The study, which also aims to evaluate the effect of the size of the alkyl portion attached to the π-system on the complexation energy, indicates a linear relationship between the two. The decreasing order of complexation energy with various metal ion-alkene complexes follows the order Zn(2+)-A > Mg(2+)-A > Ca(2+)-A > Cu(+)-A > Li(+)-A > Na(+)-A > K(+)-A. The increased charge transfer and the electron density at (3,-1) intermolecular bond critical point corroborates well with the size of the π-system and the complexation energy. The observed deviation from the linear dependency of the Cu(+)-A complexes is attributed to the dπ→π* back bonding interaction. An energy decomposition analysis via the reduced variational space (RVS) procedure was also carried out to analyze which component among polarization, charge transfer, coulomb and exchange repulsion contributes to the increase in the complexation energy. The RVS results suggest that the polarization component significantly contributes to the increase in the complexation energy when the alkene size increases.  相似文献

STO-3G and CNDO calculations have been performed on malonate ion and its Mg2+ complexes. The parallel carboxyl group arrangement is found to be the single minimum energy conformation with both techniques. In the metal binding studies, the binding of a Mg2+ to a single carboxyl is preferred over binding symmetrically to both carboxyls in their parallel conformation. These results are consistent with X-ray structure results on calcium malonate.  相似文献

The absorption spectra of styrylbenzothiazolium dye derivatives were calculated by the time-dependent density functional (TD DFT) method. The dyes of interest were (p-dimethylamino)styrylbenzothiazolium dye and its protonated form as well as aza-15(18)-crown-5(6)-containing dyes and their complexes with alkali (K+ and Na+) and alkaline-earth (Ca2+, Sr2+, and Ba2+) cations. Several low-lying conformers of the azacrown-containing dyes were considered. The electronic and geometric structures of the excited states responsible for the appearance of the long-wave (π-π*) absorption bands are studied. Complexation causes a hypsochromic shift of the long-wave absorption band correlating with the pyramidality of the crown ether nitrogen in the complex. The interaction of the cation with 3–4 solvent molecules or a counterion (ClO4 ?) considerably reduces this shift, especially in the conformers without the metal-nitrogen bond. In some cases, the long-wave absorption band is close to the absorption band of the free dye. Similar results were obtained using the polarizable continuum model of solvation. Excited-state structures of the free model dye and the free azacrown-containing dyes exhibit a tendency to bond alternation. Conversely, the cationic complexes of the crown-containing dyes and the protonated model dye exhibit a tendency to bond equalization in the excited state. The changes in the excited-state geometries of the free dyes and their complexes account for the complexation-induced fluorescence enhancement observed in the experiments.  相似文献

Calorimetric and potentiometric measurements have been made at 25°C of the formation of the mono- and bis-hydroxyproline complexes of cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II) and zinc(II) and the proline complexes of copper(II) and nickel(II). The data have been used to calculate ΔG, ΔH and ΔS values for both protonation and metal complexation and these are discussed in terms of the nature of the metal—ligand binding.  相似文献

The geometries and electronic energies of six singlet carbenes, with methyl and phenyl substituents, and the corresponding carbenium ions were obtained using several density functional theory (DFT) variants and the second-order M?ller-Plesset method for electron correlation and compared with G3 results, with the aim to determine a relatively low-cost computational protocol that is sufficiently accurate for the specific molecules and ions of interest. Some additional calculations were performed at the CCSD(T) level. Results for diphenylcarbene, methylphenylcarbene, and their cations, which were not previously investigated by ab initio methods, are reported as are calculations on methylene, methylcarbene, dimethylcarbene, and phenylcarbene. The MPW3LYP/6-311+G(d,p) hybrid DFT level was found to give results that were in close agreement with those obtained using G3 theory, with a mean absolute deviation (MAD) of 1.76 kcal/mol for the calculated proton attachment energies (PAEs). Equilibrium geometries obtained with this method were compared with those obtained at the MP2/6-311G(d,p) level of theory, and bond lengths and bond angles had MADs of 0.005 A and 1.0 degrees, respectively. Harmonic vibrational frequencies of all the carbene molecules and the corresponding ions were computed to verify that the stationary points were true minima, to obtain zero-point corrected energies, to assist in infrared studies of the molecules. The recommended combination of method and basis set is expected to be a useful framework that uses modest amounts of computer resources to obtain usable thermochemical data on moderate-sized hydrocarbons and hydrocarbon cations, including coal-mimetic species.  相似文献

The effect of the local interaction of a metal ion with the solvent on the conformations of calcium complexes of arylazacrown ethers and an azacrown-containing dye was studied using the density functional method with the PBE and B3LYP functionals. The structures were studied and the interaction energies were determined for the calcium complexes with n = 1–12 water or acetonitrile molecules. It was found that the inner coordination sphere of the free Ca2+ cation contains six H2O or seven MeCN molecules. The cation—acetonitrile interaction energy is higher than the cation—water interaction energy up to the moment the second solvation shell of the cation is almost complete (n = 11). The inner coordination sphere of Ca2+ in the macrocycle cavity contains at most three water molecules, while the fourth one is displaced to the second coordination sphere. Taking into account the local interaction with the solvent (H2O or MeCN), the conformers of the calcium complexes of arylazacrown ethers and the azacrown-containing dye were studied. It was shown that the presence of two to four water molecules in the coordination sphere of the cation reduces the relative energies of the conformers with broken metal—nitrogen bond, thus favoring ground-state metal recoordination. Resonant laser ablation (RLA) is used as a source to selectively generate multiple metal ion species from the same sample. The capability of rapidly changing metal ions for gas-phase ion chemistry studies is a significant advantage in ion-molecule chemistry. The simple experimental arrangement uses relatively modest laser pulse energies (≤ 25 µJ/pulse) from a tunable dye laser to desorb and selectively ionize different metal atoms from a multicomponent sample. In turn, this allows the chemistry of several components to be investigated without breaking vacuum or altering the experimental geometry. This work demonstrates the use of RLA as a selective source of several reagent metal ions for gas-phase ion chemistry investigations. In particular, the reactivity of acetone with Cr+, Fe+, Ni+, and Cu+ was examined for metal ions selectively created by RLA from a standard steel sample.  相似文献

The Sm+O chemiionization reaction has been investigated theoretically using a method that allows for correlation and relativistic effects. Potential energy curves have been calculated for several electronic states of SmO and SmO+. Comparison with available spectroscopic and thermodynamic values for these species is reported and a mechanism for the chemiionization reaction Sm+O is proposed. The importance of spin-orbit coupling in the excited states of SmO, in allowing this chemiionization reaction to take place, has been revealed by these calculations. This paper shows the metal-plus-oxidant chemiionization reaction.  相似文献

Calculations by the B3LYP density functional method with various basis sets and by the QCISD(T)/6-31G(d) ab initio method showed that the main pathway of monomolecular gas-phase decomposition of nitroethylene is that involving a cyclic intermediate, 4H-1,2-oxazete 2-oxide; the barrier of its formation (201.9, 203.9, and 216.5 kJ mol–1, as estimated by various methods) reasonably agrees with the experimental value (191.9 kJ mol–1). The barriers of alternative pathways of gas-phase decomposition of nitroethylene are considerably higher. The barriers of reactions involving radical cations are considerably lower than those of the similar reactions involving molecules. Among all the considered pathways of nitroethylene decomposition, bimolecular pathways are the most favorable energetically.Translated from Zhurnal Obshchei Khimii, Vol. 74, No. 8, 2004, pp. 1327–1342.Original Russian Text Copyright © 2004 by Shamov, Nikolaeva, Khrapkovskii. This revised version was published online in April 2005 with a corrected cover date.  相似文献

Silicon clusters are of considerable interest for their importance in astrophysics and chemical vapour deposition processes, as well as from a fundamental point of view. Here, we present a quadrupole ion trap study of the self-condensation ion/molecule reactions of anions of silane. In the high-pressure regime, several ion clusters are formed with increasing size: the largest ions detected are Si5Hn- (n = 0-3). Selective ion isolation and storage allowed detection of the main reaction sequences occurring in the reacting system. The most frequent condensation step is followed by single or multiple dehydrogenation, this latter being particularly observed for the high-mass reactant ions. As a consequence, the most abundant ions in the mass spectra are those with a low content of hydrogen, namely Si2H-, Si3H-, and Si4H-. These results are discussed with reference to literature data on silicon cluster anions and related systems.  相似文献

Gas-phase electron-diffraction data and high-level quantum chemical calculations have been used to study the conformational behaviour of N-azidomethylpyrrolidine. The two most stable conformers with a relative abundance of about 80% at 298 K possess gauche orientation of the azidomethyl group around the C-N(pyr) bond (C-N(azido)gauche with respect to the endocyclic N(pyr)-C bond). This orientation is a strong manifestation of an anomeric effect. The influence of the anomeric effect is also reflected in shortening of the C-N(pyr) bond and lengthening of the C-N(azido) bond as compared to such bonds in other compounds.  相似文献
