The n-widths of the unit ball Ap of the Hardy space Hp in Lq( −1, 1) are determined asymptotically. It is shown that for 1 ≤ q < p ≤∞ there exist constants k1 and k2 such that [formula]≤ dn(Ap, Lq(−1, 1)),dn(Ap, Lq(−1, 1)), δn(Ap, Lq(−1, 1))[formula]where dn, dn, and δn denote the Kolmogorov, Gel′fand and linear n-widths, respectively. This result is an improvement of estimates previously obtained by Burchard and Höllig and by the author.  相似文献

Let Bn( f,q;x), n=1,2,… be q-Bernstein polynomials of a function f : [0,1]→C. The polynomials Bn( f,1;x) are classical Bernstein polynomials. For q≠1 the properties of q-Bernstein polynomials differ essentially from those in the classical case. This paper deals with approximating properties of q-Bernstein polynomials in the case q>1 with respect to both n and q. Some estimates on the rate of convergence are given. In particular, it is proved that for a function f analytic in {z: |z|<q+} the rate of convergence of {Bn( f,q;x)} to f(x) in the norm of C[0,1] has the order qn (versus 1/n for the classical Bernstein polynomials). Also iterates of q-Bernstein polynomials {Bnjn( f,q;x)}, where both n→∞ and jn→∞, are studied. It is shown that for q(0,1) the asymptotic behavior of such iterates is quite different from the classical case. In particular, the limit does not depend on the rate of jn→∞.  相似文献

Let E be a compact subset of the open unit disc Δ and let Hq be the Hardy space of analytic functions f on Δ for which stf¦q has a harmonic majorant. We determine the value of the Kolmogorov, Gel'fand, and linear n-widths in Lp(E, μ) of the restriction to E of the unit ball of Hq when p q or when 1 q < p < ∞ and E is “small”.  相似文献

In this paper, we discuss properties of the ω,q-Bernstein polynomials introduced by S. Lewanowicz and P. Woźny in [S. Lewanowicz, P. Woźny, Generalized Bernstein polynomials, BIT 44 (1) (2004) 63–78], where fC[0,1], ω,q>0, ω≠1,q−1,…,qn+1. When ω=0, we recover the q-Bernstein polynomials introduced by [G.M. Phillips, Bernstein polynomials based on the q-integers, Ann. Numer. Math. 4 (1997) 511–518]; when q=1, we recover the classical Bernstein polynomials. We compute the second moment of , and demonstrate that if f is convex and ω,q(0,1) or (1,∞), then are monotonically decreasing in n for all x[0,1]. We prove that for ω(0,1), qn(0,1], the sequence converges to f uniformly on [0,1] for each fC[0,1] if and only if limn→∞qn=1. For fixed ω,q(0,1), we prove that the sequence converges for each fC[0,1] and obtain the estimates for the rate of convergence of by the modulus of continuity of f, and the estimates are sharp in the sense of order for Lipschitz continuous functions.  相似文献

Oscillations of first-order neutral delay differential equations   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Consider the neutral delay differential equation (*) (d/dt)[y(t) + py(t − τ)] + qy(t − σ) = 0, t t0, where τ, q, and σ are positive constants, while p ε (−∞, −1) (0, + ∞). (For the case p ε [−1, 0] see Ladas and Sficas, Oscillations of neutral delay differential equations (to appear)). The following results are then proved. Theorem 1. Assume p < − 1. Then every nonoscillatory solution y(t) of Eq. (*) tends to ± ∞ as t → ∞. Theorem 2. Assume p < − 1, τ > σ, and q(σ − τ)/(1 + p) > (1/e). Then every solution of Eq. (*) oscillates. Theorems 3. Assume p > 0. Then every nonoscillatory solution y(t) of Eq. (*) tends to zero as t → ∞. Theorem 4. Assume p > 0. Then a necessary condition for all solutions of Eq. (*) to oscillate is that σ > τ. Theorem 5. Assume p > 0, σ > τ, andq(σ − τ)/(1 + p) > (1/e). Then every solution of Eq. (*) oscillates. Extensions of these results to equations with variable coefficients are also obtained.  相似文献

We study the Kolmogorov n-widths and the linear n-widths of weighted Sobolev classes on the unit ball Bd in Lq,μ, where Lq,μ, 1≤q, denotes the weighted Lq space of functions on Bd with respect to weight . Optimal asymptotic orders of and as n are obtained for all 1≤p,q and μ≥0.  相似文献

For an integer k 1 and a geometric mesh (qi)−∞ with q ε (0, ∞), let Mi,k(x): = k[qi + k](· − x)+k − 1, Ni,k(x): = (qi + kqiMi,k(x)/k, and let Ak(q) be the Gram matrix (∝Mi,kNj,k)i,jεz. It is known that Ak(q)−1 is bounded independently of q. In this paper it is shown that Ak(q)−1 is strictly decreasing for q in [1, ∞). In particular, the sharp upper bound and lower bound for Ak (q)−1 are obtained: for all q ε (0, ∞).  相似文献

In this paper, the properties of the generalized Euler-Frobenius polynomial Πn(·, q) are studied. It is proved that its zeroes are separated by the factor q and their asymptotic behavior, as q → ∞, is given. As a consequence, it is shown that least squares spline approximation on a biinfinite geometric mesh can be bounded independently of the (local) mesh ratio q and that the norm of the inverse of the corresponding order kB-spline Gram matrix decreases monotonically to 2k − 1 for large q, as q → ∞.  相似文献

The rate of convergence of q-Bernstein polynomials for   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
In the note, we obtain the estimates for the rate of convergence for a sequence of q-Bernstein polynomials {Bn,q(f)} for 0<q<1 by the modulus of continuity of f, and the estimates are sharp with respect to the order for Lipschitz continuous functions. We also get the exact orders of convergence for a family of functions , and the orders do not depend on α, unlike the classical case.  相似文献

We consider the random poset (n, p) which is generated by first selecting each subset of [n]={1, …, n} with probability p and then ordering the selected subsets by inclusion. We give asymptotic estimates of the size of the maximum antichain for arbitrary p=p(n). In particular, we prove that if pn/log n→∞, an analogue of Sperner's theorem holds: almost surely the maximum antichain is (to first order) no larger than the antichain which is obtained by selecting all elements of (n, p) with cardinality n/2. This is almost surely not the case if pn=∞.  相似文献

Let be compact with #S=∞ and let C(S) be the set of all real continuous functions on S. We ask for an algebraic polynomial sequence (Pn)n=0 with deg Pn=n such that every fC(S) has a unique representation f=∑i=0 αiPi and call such a basis Faber basis. In the special case of , 0<q<1, we prove the existence of such a basis. A special orthonormal Faber basis is given by the so-called little q-Legendre polynomials. Moreover, these polynomials state an example with A(Sq)≠U(Sq)=C(Sq), where A(Sq) is the so-called Wiener algebra and U(Sq) is the set of all fC(Sq) which are uniquely represented by its Fourier series.  相似文献

Let fεLp(R), gεLq(R) with 1<p<∞, 1<q<∞ and let Hf, Hg be their respective Hilbert transforms. We give a simple proof of the identity Hf · Hgf · G = H(f · Hg + g · Hf) a.e. and of its inverse in the case (1/p) + (1/q) 1 which includes the cases already considered by Cossar and Tricomi. We next derive applications, especially to boundary values of analytic functions.  相似文献

Let (X, Y) be a random vector such that X is d-dimensional, Y is real valued, and θ(X) is the conditional αth quantile of Y given X, where α is a fixed number such that 0 < α < 1. Assume that θ is a smooth function with order of smoothness p > 0, and set r = (pm)/(2p + d), where m is a nonnegative integer smaller than p. Let T(θ) denote a derivative of θ of order m. It is proved that there exists estimate of T(θ), based on a set of i.i.d. observations (X1, Y1), …, (Xn, Yn), that achieves the optimal nonparametric rate of convergence nr in Lq-norms (1 ≤ q < ∞) restricted to compacts under appropriate regularity conditions. Further, it has been shown that there exists estimate of T(θ) that achieves the optimal rate (n/log n)r in L-norm restricted to compacts.  相似文献

Let {pk(x; q)} be any system of the q-classical orthogonal polynomials, and let be the corresponding weight function, satisfying the q-difference equation Dq(σ)=τ, where σ and τ are polynomials of degree at most 2 and exactly 1, respectively. Further, let {pk(1)(x;q)} be associated polynomials of the polynomials {pk(x; q)}. Explicit forms of the coefficients bn,k and cn,k in the expansions
are given in terms of basic hypergeometric functions. Here k(x) equals xk if σ+(0)=0, or (x;q)k if σ+(1)=0, where σ+(x)σ(x)+(q−1)xτ(x). The most important representatives of those two classes are the families of little q-Jacobi and big q-Jacobi polynomials, respectively.Writing the second-order nonhomogeneous q-difference equation satisfied by pn−1(1)(x;q) in a special form, recurrence relations (in k) for bn,k and cn,k are obtained in terms of σ and τ.  相似文献

The convergence properties of q-Bernstein polynomials are investigated. When q1 is fixed the generalized Bernstein polynomials nf of f, a one parameter family of Bernstein polynomials, converge to f as n→∞ if f is a polynomial. It is proved that, if the parameter 0<q<1 is fixed, then nff if and only if f is linear. The iterates of nf are also considered. It is shown that nMf converges to the linear interpolating polynomial for f at the endpoints of [0,1], for any fixed q>0, as the number of iterates M→∞. Moreover, the iterates of the Boolean sum of nf converge to the interpolating polynomial for f at n+1 geometrically spaced nodes on [0,1].  相似文献

Let Xn, n = 1, 2, ... be a sequence of p × q random matrices, pq. Assume that for a fixed p × q matrix B and a sequence of constants bn → ∞, the random matrix bn(XnB) converges in distribution to Z. Let ψ(Xn) denote the q-vector of singular values of Xn. Under these assumptions, the limiting distribution of bn (ψ(Xn) − ψ(B)) is characterized as a function of B and of the limit matrix Z. Applications to canonical correlations and to correspondence analysis are given.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the problem of best approximation in ℓpn, 1<p∞. If hp, 1<p<∞, denotes the best ℓp-approximation of the element h n from a proper affine subspace K of n, hK, then limp→∞hp=h*, where h* is a best uniform approximation of h from K, the so-called strict uniform approximation. Our aim is to prove that for all r there are αj n, 1jr, such that

Making use of a differential operator, we introduce and study a certain class SCn(j,p,q,α,λ) of p-valently analytic functions with negative coefficients. In this paper, we obtain numerous sharp results including (for example ) coefficient estimates, distortion theorem, radii of close-to convexity, starlikeness and convexity and modified Hadamard products of functions belonging to the class SCn(j,p,q,α,λ). Finally, several applications investigate an integral operator, and certain fractional calculus operators are also considered.  相似文献

We discuss the best linear approximation methods in the Hardy spaceH q q≥1, for classes of analytic functions studied by N. Ainulloev; these are generalizations (in a certain sense) of function sets introduced by L. V. Taikov. The exact values of their linear and Gelfandn-widths are obtained. The exact values of the Kolmogorov and Bernsteinn-widths of classes of analytic (in |z|<1) functions whose boundaryK-functionals are majorized by a prescribed functions are also obtained. The paper deals with problems relating to the theory of Hankel operators. Let G be a bounded simple connected domain with the boundary Γ consisting of a closed analytic Jordan curve. Denote by n,p(G), 1p<∞, the class of all meromorphic functions on G that can be represented in the form h=β/α, where β belongs to the Smirnov class Ep(G), α is a polynomial degree at most n, α0. We obtain estimates of s-numbers of the Hankel operator Af constructed from fLp(Γ), 1p<∞, in terms of the best approximation Δn,p of f in the space Lp(Γ) by functions belonging to the class n,p(G).  相似文献
