A pro-Lie group is a projective limit of a projective system of finite dimensional Lie groups. A prodiscrete group is a complete abelian topological group in which the open normal subgroups form a basis of the filter of identity neighborhoods. It is shown here that an abelian pro-Lie group is a product of (in general infinitely many) copies of the additive topological group of reals and of an abelian pro-Lie group of a special type; this last factor has a compact connected component, and a characteristic closed subgroup which is a union of all compact subgroups; the factor group modulo this subgroup is pro-discrete and free of nonsingleton compact subgroups. Accordingly, a connected abelian pro-Lie group is a product of a family of copies of the reals and a compact connected abelian group. A topological group is called compactly generated if it is algebraically generated by a compact subset, and a group is called almost connected if the factor group modulo its identity component is compact. It is further shown that a compactly generated abelian pro-Lie group has a characteristic almost connected locally compact subgroup which is a product of a finite number of copies of the reals and a compact abelian group such that the factor group modulo this characteristic subgroup is a compactly generated prodiscrete group without nontrivial compact subgroups.Mathematics Subject Classification (1991): 22B, 22E  相似文献

The notion of coorbits for spaces with quantum group actions is introduced. A space with a quantum group action is given by a pair of algebras: an associative algebra which is the analog of a classical topological space, and a Hopf algebra which is the analog of a classical topological group. The Hopf algebra acts on the associative algebra via a comodule structure mapping which is also an algebra homomorphism. For a space with a quantum group action, a coorbit is a pair of spaces given by the image and the kernel of an algebra homomorphism from the associative algebra to the Hopf algebra. The coorbits of several types of quantum homogeneous spaces are discussed. In the case when the associative algebra is the group algebra of a group and the Hopf algebra is a quotient of the group algebra, the connection between the set of coorbits and the character group is established.  相似文献

The direct product of a free group and a polycyclic group is known to be coherent. This paper shows that every finitely generated subsemigroup of the direct product of a virtually free group and an abelian group admits a finite Malcev presentation. (A Malcev presentation is a presentation of a special type for a semigroup that embeds into a group. A group is virtually free if it contains a free subgroup of finite index.) By considering the direct product of two free semigroups, it is also shown that polycyclic groups, unlike nilpotent groups, can contain finitely generated subsemigroups that do not admit finite Malcev presentations.  相似文献

We show that every virtually torsion-free subgroup of the outer automorphism group of a conjugacy separable hyperbolic group is residually finite. As a result, we are able to prove that the group of outer automorphisms of every finitely generated Fuchsian group and of every free-by-finite group is residually finite.  相似文献

It is proved that the wreath product of a second-order group and the commutant of a dihedral group is imbedded into a multiplicative group of a modular group algebra of a dihedral group of order 2 n . The Butcher group is a powerful tool to analyse integration methods for ordinary differential equations, in particular Runge–Kutta methods. In the present paper, we complement the algebraic treatment of the Butcher group with a natural infinite-dimensional Lie group structure. This structure turns the Butcher group into a real analytic Baker–Campbell–Hausdorff Lie group modelled on a Fréchet space. In addition, the Butcher group is a regular Lie group in the sense of Milnor and contains the subgroup of symplectic tree maps as a closed Lie subgroup. Finally, we also compute the Lie algebra of the Butcher group and discuss its relation to the Lie algebra associated with the Butcher group by Connes and Kreimer.  相似文献

In this article we give necessary and sufficient conditions for a given finite group of outer automorphisms to be induced by the action of a group of orientation-preserving homeomorphisms on the fundamental group of a punctured surface. When the group is abelian, necessary and sufficient conditions can also be given in the absence of orientability assumptions. These properties are formulated in terms of the finite automorphism groups which project into the given outer automorphism group: each non-trivial automorphism in any such group can fix at most a cyclic subgroup of the fundamental group.  相似文献

Analogously to the projective class group, the permutation class group of a finite group π can be defined as the group of equivalence classes of direct summands of integral permutation modules modulo permutation modules. It is shown that this group behaves nicely with respect to localization and completion, which then is used to prove that contrary to the projective class group - it is not always a torsion group. The paper is concerned with the topological and metric properties of group extensions of C systems. The basic theorem describes the topologically transitive component, the ergodic component, and the K component of a group extension of a C system. It is shown that each of these components is a group sub-bundle of a principal bundle in which the group extension acts. The frame flow on a manifold of negative curvature is seen to be a special case of a group of extension of a C system. It is shown that the space of frames on a compact three-dimensional manifold with negative curvature does not have any group sub-bundles, so that the frame flow on manifolds of this class is topologically transitive, ergodic, and a K system.  相似文献

In the paper, the set of exponents of exponential growth (growth exponents) for a finitely generated group with respect to all possible generators of this group is studied. It is proved that the greatest lower bound of this set is attained for the free products of a cyclic group of prime order and a free group of finite rank.  相似文献
